We also grabbed a kiddie size of white chocolate cranberry cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious and worth ordering on its own. Because it was freezing out (a rare win), we took advantage of that and grabbed two kiddie sizes to go for my mom, knowing they wouldn't melt on the way home. They also had ice cream pies stocked in the freezer, plus homemade waffle cones and waffle bowls, which smelled incredible. The only downside and this has nothing to do with Sweet Ride themselves was parking. With all the snow piled everywhere, we missed a sign indicating a bus stop zone right in front of the shop and ended up with a $50 parking ticket from the borough. Lesson learned: parking in the area can be tricky, so just be extra mindful of signage, especially in winter. That aside, this was a five-star experience across the board. The place is beautifully decorated, and the servers are kind, but the food does not meet the expectations you would have, especially if you are familiar with authentic Colombian food. We ordered empanadas as an appetizer, and they arrived cold, as if they had been made the day before. On top of that, the ají is not the traditional Colombian kind, so the experience was disappointing from the start. The ajiaco, which should be one of the most representative dishes, tasted more like a bland potato soup with no chicken flavor and nothing memorable about it. They do not even serve it with cream, which makes it feel even less authentic and less flavorful. You can also feel a change in the atmosphere when the manager or owner arrives. The treatment toward Hispanic customers feels somewhat dismissive, while it seems different with Americans. For example, a group of Americans picked up their plates and she told them they did not have to do that, but when I did the same, that courtesy was forgotten. Overall, it is a visually pleasant place and the waitresses provide good service, but for someone from Colombia, the food does not live up to many expectations.

My mother ordered the Fajitas Norte Sur which included steak, chicken, shrimp, chorizo, peppers and onions with sides of guacamole, sour cream, pico de Gallo, rice and beans. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a picture of my mother's dish but the proteins arrived on a sizzling cast iron pan and the rest came on a second plate. I ordered the Carnitas Burrito which was served over a tomatillo sauce with a side of rice and beans. My mother ate all of the protein including the guacamole and I even commented to her that I didn't think she was going to be able to eat as much as she did (Good Job, Mom!). I ate everything on my plate and ended up consuming my mother's refried beans. Once the food was served I asked for "salsa picante" aka hot sauce. They offered a bottled version but I requested their house made version. My wish was granted and it had a good amount of heat...I used more of it than my mother because I LOVE spiciness. I almost finished all of the portion they brought though. I sat there trying to analyze their combinations of ingredients for that sauce and still don't have a concrete formula for what I thought it was and I didn't ask what it was comprised of either. My mother thought service was good, which I will not deny, but I will admit I was not offered a refill on my glass of water. I'm a stickler for that since I consume a lot of water. Either way she tipped them at 30ish%, and probably because she is paying forward to her nationality. Either way, I'd return. So maybe I'm mistaken and it's 1 tiny empanada for $5? I don't know... either they're not honoring their ad on Uber Eats or they're overpricing their empanadas?! I hope they can look into this. Either way, I will order again because the food is always great! I've never been inside, but I have driven past the store and it's nothing special looking on the outside, but don't be fooled!
