We stopped into Sweet Ride Ice Cream in Reading as the final stop on a date night, and honestly... it was the perfect way to end the evening. The vibe immediately pulls you in, classic 1950s ice cream parlor energy with a fun, nostalgic feel. One of the employees was even dressed in a white shirt and black bow tie, which totally fit the theme and added to the experience. They have a huge variety of flavors and options, so there's something for everyone. We came specifically for their Valentine's Day ice cream flight, and it did not disappoint. The flight included: * Cupid's Milk & Cookies * Raspberry Cheesecake * Red Velvet * Chocolate Covered Strawberry Every flavor was excellent, but raspberry cheesecake was the standout favorite rich, creamy, and perfectly balanced. We also grabbed a kiddie size of white chocolate cranberry cheesecake, which was absolutely delicious and worth ordering on its own. Because it was freezing out (a rare win), we took advantage of that and grabbed two kiddie sizes to go for my mom, knowing they wouldn't melt on the way home. They also had ice cream pies stocked in the freezer, plus homemade waffle cones and waffle bowls, which smelled incredible. The only downside and this has nothing to do with Sweet Ride themselves was parking. With all the snow piled everywhere, we missed a sign indicating a bus stop zone right in front of the shop and ended up with a $50 parking ticket from the borough. Lesson learned: parking in the area can be tricky, so just be extra mindful of signage, especially in winter. That aside, this was a five-star experience across the board. While we had just finished dinner at a restaurant up the street, we took a stroll down the beautifully holiday-decorated Penn Ave. The seasonally-appropriate decorations drew us in but they didn't stop at the door. It continued inside in very merry fashion. It was so welcoming that I wanted to sit down to savor the holiday warmth and cheer. But since we were so full from just having dinner up the street, we grabbed dessert to go. This way we could properly enjoy and savor it later at home. The service was amazing, they acknowledged us as soon as we walked in the door, were quick and efficient with taking orders and getting our ice cream to us. The ice cream is good but the service has been bad every time I've gone to Sweet Ride. Whoever is working the counter ignores us and it seems in an intentionally rude manner. The last time I went there we had only been there for a minute, knew what we wanted and waited patiently for the employee to stop fiddling around and take our orders. Suddenly the door burst open and about a dozen little girls and their moms ran to the counter. The employee dropped everything she was "not" doing and proceeded to wait on them. Another person came from the back to help. My friend and I both pointed out that we had already been waiting there and were ahead of that bunch. Their response was "We'll get to you". The local creamery is a takeout window; you can't walk in the store. Thus, you have to pick your flavors from the massive list without actually looking at or sampling the ice cream; such is live in the current year. However, they do offer the option of a flight; a set of four mini-scoops, which is exactly what I wanted. I wish more places would offer such a sampler in a size that one person could realistically eat. Here, I sampled a seasonal sounding peppermint brownie, a blackberry, a Nutella, and a mint cookie crunch. All were distinctive; the mint flavors heavy on their brownie and cookie components, respectively, the blackberry delivering a sweet creaminess without being overwhelmingly tart, and the Nutella with little streaks of the hazelnut spread layered through it. Then again, I could probably have been just as happy with four completely different flavors, including their decent-sized vegan collection. Came here for the first time with some friends. It's set up like a stand whether due to covid or the summer either way I prefer that "aesthetic" set up. They have a lot of choices to choose from. I got a strawberry banana milkshake with rainbow sprinkles, my one friend got a brownie sundae with chocolate ice cream, chocolate syrup and chocolate sprinkles and my other friend and her daughter got mango waterice.
