Eh this is a tough LA location to rate. The location is great, plenty of parking, and the equipment is great. Full upstairs is all cardio and the downstairs includes weights and machines. The machines are for the most part kept up with and are good quality. The sauna is a huge plus in the winter time! I've never used the pools or showers, but the locker room is very nice. The biggest con is just how crowded it always is. There's never a good time to go. The staff change a lot as people come and go and it is tough to get certain answers on memberships and such. read more

If you're looking for a gym that is always disgustingly dirty this is your gym. No matter how often you bring these violations up to staff it never changes. They recently closed for four days to do updates but other then some new equipment they did not bother to clean anything. The lockers are barely hanging on to broken hinges and hasps. Showers, locker rooms and water fountains are beyond healthy. Management is non-existent except when it's time to renew. read more

So far, so good. We tried getting back into a fitness routine and wanted the accountability of a gym. We also like trying new spots, so have tried gyms and classes all over town. This one does the job. It's crowded enough where there feels like a community but there is always equipment open. They have good classes that are offered every night and I really enjoyed the zumba one. The equipment cleanliness could be improved, but I tend to opt for the classes more than the facilities so can't speak on that as much. read more

I have been a member since the club opened. it is a pitiful excuse for a gym. They have four stairmasters . On good day two of them work. The sauna is consistently broken. I debating even leaving a review, but I've now gotten two phone calls from this location, I can only assume asking me if I'm going to join this gym. I went into this location on 7/15/25 around 5:45pm to tour the facility. I'd called earlier that day and spoke to Kyndal, I told her I wasn't happy with what my current gym offered and I was interested in some of the classes offered at LA Fitness, I wanted to come in to tour the facility. Kyndal was so kind on the phone, she seemed genuinely eager for me to come in and even offered to go over the class schedule with me and offered me a 3 day pass to try out the facility. I specifically asked her when would be a good time to come in, she told me if I wanted to come in that day she'd be there until they closed, or the next day, I believe she said the name was Andrew, would be able to show me around because she wouldn't be there. As someone who is fairly new to doing anything but walking my neighborhood and an occasional video workout in my living room, I was a little nervous about stepping into a gym of this degree, but like I said, Kyndal was so warm and welcoming on the phone, so I made it a point to go that day when she would be there. When I got to the location, they were a little busier than I expected, however, people were just scanning barcodes and walking right in, while 3 people stood at the check in counter just monitoring, besides one girl who stood towards the back chatting with a guy she clearly knew well. I explained to the guy who asked if I needed help that I had called a bit ago and spoke with Kyndal who told me to come in anytime that day for a tour. I waited for her to finish her conversation and when she approached me she was very immediate to send me off to someone else. That guy took me over to a desk where he began asking me about their membership plans. I told him what I was there for, a tour of the facility, and he immediately jumped up and took me back over to the desk, telling Kyndal, not asking, to take me on the tour because he didn't have time. She argued with him about it for well over a minute. Saying that she wanted to stay up front, that she was asked to watch the front, keep in mind there was another guy up there at this time as well. The man who brought me back to the counter then told Kyndal that he would watch the desk and to go give me the tour now. She didn't like this and sighed while throwing her phone down on the counter, she stood up with annoyance and said to follow her. We got over to the two rooms where classes were held, and she just pointed at it and said she had no idea what class was going on but said "it was one they offered". While standing there, instead of showing me any sort of schedule, she asked me what gym I currently go to. I told her the gym, and she immediately laughed and told me she worked there for a few months and then "sued their pants off". As we continued walking she kept blanking on what she was doing, she would walk in front of me, talk the other direction, get side tracked often, and then told me by the stair climbers that I could eventually work my way up to them.. offensive as this was just being based off of my appearance. She didn't even take me upstairs and then she was annoyed that I wanted to see the pool. Sorry, I just wanted to tour the place.. she genuinely couldn't wait to be done with the tour. All this to say, I didn't step foot back in that gym for even a single day of my "3 day trial". If you want to get new members to sign the dotted line, this is not the way. I had my membership frozen for over 2 years. I called in 12/28 10:24 a.m. to completely cancel it, and a woman answered and started telling me I would also pay a fee as well as a late fee to cancel. I told her I'm sorry I don't think you understand what I'm saying. She interrupted me rudely said she did understand and that she is sure I would pay a late fee. When she finished I said, I have BEEN paying $10 a month so why would I be charged a late fee for canceling my frozen membership? She was quiet and then started stuttering saying she knows someway there is a fee. I insisted she tell me what the fee is for. She suddenly said she's still in training. She told me she would take my number give it to her manager Kevin told me enjoy the weather, and abruptly hung up. I called back immediately to ask her name and she REFUSED to give me her name. She even asked what do I want it for? I want it because I need to say WHO I spoke with that told me I would be paying additional fees. So I told her I will be just telling her manager she refused to give me her name and hung up. Stay away from this place! The staff is rude and have no clue what they are talking about. If I could give this gym zero stars I would. This LA Fitness CARMEL location is in shockingly rough condition! As a member for nearly 6 years, I know because I attend this gym 5-6 days per week and I literally use almost every piece of equipment here....weights, cardio machines, racquet ball courts, spin classes, hot tub and sauna. I have held back in posting a review online because I first notified the gym mangers of these concerns and wanted to give the complaint process time to work. Over this past year, I reached out to several managers, first at this LA Fitness location with hopes someone would listen to me and really see this place needs attention. I went to the operations manager at my Carmel location (a 21 year old young man who didn't seem to care). Then I started calling the corporate headquarters. After getting the run around way too many times I had to get rather assertive with them to give me the district operations manager's info. It was a struggle. Next I contacted the district operations manager, Timothy LeBeau on March 27, 2023 with a list of concerns and about 50 pictures along w/ a petition of 230+ member signatures that I collected earlier this year to have the hours changed back to pre-covid hours. Timothy does respond back to me but sadly always tells me what I want to hear. It's insane that the hours are so restricted at this very busy location where members workout late into the evening. To the frustration of most everyone, they close at 10pm week nights, 9pm Fri nights and 7pm Sat. and Sun. A change back to pre-pandemic hours in LONG overdue! Tim assured me he was working on getting the hours extended at our location & almost 6 mos later NOTHING has changed & from his last email it doesn't look like it is likely to change anytime soon! Next, we have the issue of the shabby condition of the gym! The machines are ancient! The weight machines are always broken and rusting out. Instead of a needed replacement of these machines, the gym is choosing instead to patch them up and recover them! I'm not sure they are all safe to use! The cardio machines are in very poor condition. They are so old that it's hard to find one that works quite right....the little things like the fans or the incline setting or the acceleration buttons...very basic things! The treadmills are broken all the time.....one treadmill has been stuck on an incline for about 4 months now. I believe most of the cardio machines are 15 years old or more. (I have checked a few of the manufacturer dates to confirm this!) I do the Stairmaster frequently and there is NEVER 4 working Stairmasters at any given time. They are disguising and outdated. The gym attempts to fix them over and over and they never work quite right. They are loud, skip, lose power for no reason and often don't accelerate to the desired speed when doing intervals. Again, all very basic stuff a gym should offer. The front desk people have to take the time to enter repair requests online for each specific machine that is broken or else they don't even get recorded that they are broken. Because of this, it's normal for a Stairmaster, treadmill or weight machine to be out of commission for a month or more because the front desk people are lazy or reluctant about putting in the daily list of repair requests for broken equipment. Unacceptable! I even learned that our assigned repair guy lives two states away and doesn't get over here very often. So, all that to say WE NEED NEW CADRIO MACHINES....ESP #1STAIRMASTERS AND #2TREADMILLS! Lastly this gym is completely outdated! It is very long overdue for a COMPLETE REMODEL. It was very exciting to members when they heard the gym was going to be remodeled in Jan 2023. Disappointingly, they just painted and added a green space, poorly relocating all the weight machines even closer to each other....a very tight arrangement! So the old, outdated weight machines and cardio equipment remain. I do give credit to the cleaning crew right now. They are working hard and trying and do a decent job with the aged-out facility. The bathrooms are so OLD and GROSS that there is really NO way for them to get them looking like they are clean because the floors and counters are so stained and worn down. The toilet stalls are old and falling apart. The tile is coming off in the showers. The concrete is stained and crumbling around the pool. Again, unacceptable! I stopped showering there because it's just too gross! I literally don't want to touch anything. LA fitness's annual revenue was 2.1 billion in 2022 so it's a mystery why they are not keeping their gyms updated esp in an upscale city like Carmel. The city of Westfield will have a new YMCA coming soon. If things don't change here soon starting w/ the hours there will be a lot of us frustrated members leaving. (And there are a LOT of us) This location in Carmel is clearly NOT living up to the quality and great experience of the LA Fitness brand and name. read more

I was a member of LA fitness for over 15 years, and I have nothing but great things to say about this gym. Unfortunately the club closes to my house recently closed. I am now a member of 2 other gyms, and they don't even compare to LA fitness. LA offered ALOT of equipment, from cardio, machines, free weight, squat racks, etc, that were all very spacious. On top of that, the amenities include various group workout classes, cycle classes, basketball court, pool sauna, and my favorite the protein/recovery shakes. If you are on the fence, they offer a 3 day trial pass, so check it this gym out. read more

Been a member for almost ten years and am sorry to say the place has reached rock bottom. You can't walk by three machines without seeing something broken or out of service. The stationary bike in the special needs area has been inoperable and "waiting for a part" for over 6 months now. Isn't that a ADA concern? The men's locker room is in filthy and in shambles. Lockers are grimy, loose or broken hardware, and frankly need to be replaced. Sinks and bathrooms are atrocious. Sauna is sticky and saturated with a decade of members sweat. Aside from the trainers, no one seems to care. And most very no one at corporate cares. We keep hearing the gym is due a "refresh" but the last one was just cosmetic and offered no real member value. Basically just an alignment to their marketing scheme. If Crunch opens in the area I'm outta here. read more

I joined this gym a few months ago and have been very impressed thus far. The classes I've tried so far are great and the equipment is pretty good. I've been working with a personal trainer Elise and she's fantastic she listened to my concerns about my weight loss and overall health. I've dropped a bunch of weight and BMI has gone down drastically but I've bulked up a lot muscle wise which after 3 kids is a miracle. I highly recommend working with her if you need some help ! Do not become a member of this gym. Half of the equipment is broken and has been for months. Management claims it is easier to fix the old machines instead of buy new machines. Treadmills have been broken for months and it is unlikely that they will ever be fixed. Some machines randomly stop... what a great way to injure your knee! The only reason I continue to come to this gym is due to the location. LA Fitness Westfield will lose all their members if another similar gym opens up in Westfield. The club does not appear to prioritize cleaning. Cleaning stations empty and trash outside of receptacles. Bathrooms unkempt. The equipment is showing heavy wear and tear including rusting on the cardio machines. With a new competitor coming within 2 miles it might be time to upgrade equipment and focus on cleaning and reception. Planet fitness has way less equipment and no classes but they are constantly cleaning. And someone at reception always greets or says good evening. read more

This LA fitness location is very large and popular. What I don't understand is why the treadmills are so awful compared to all other studios I've been to. They shake and rattle and make awful noises and don't have good positions to put a phone or tablet if trying to watch a show when running. The noise is also super annoying that you can hear it over your music in headphones and that it happens with every treadmill so you hear it for all your running / walking neighbors. Not cool... I would expect better especially at the Carmel location The staff is nice and I haven't checked out the classes yet but the ones going on when I've been there seem to get pretty good attendance. read more

I have number of issues with LA Fitness on 106th & Michigan rd. They recently took away the paper towels and gave us wet naps to wipe the equipment off. I realize this is a cost saving measure but for hygiene and practical reasons we really need for some paper towels to come back. The stairclimbers are always malfunctioning. Their lifespan has come and gone. They drastically need to be replaced with NEW stairclimbers. read more

The GM, Chris, helped me get my business partner, Ken Shamrock, a pass into the gym so he can keep his muscles all swoll and stuff. Called and requested they hold my charges till could workout again. 1st call in January was told would need to speak to Liddy and she would call me back. Not a chance! Repeated calls and no call backs. Went into gym 4 times asking to meet with Liddy not available. She will call you. No call and so I call corporate no help, asked to speak to supervisor and Yelba hung up on me. Don't walk run away from this company they are not honorable! read more

This is a nice gym, good equipment, good atmosphere; however with such minimal concern for the paying customers it deserves a two star. I was denied entry after having a membership for years, because the lady at the front counter(not fit, black hair, mean face) seemed to have a problem with me. I'm a college student, who's on summer break and needed a gym for just one month. Because of this I had cancelled my Personal La membership because my campus has an excellent gym facility. Due to my membership which I had for 4 years being cancelled, I had to use my fathers account which he does not use, and only still pays for for me to workout. I explained this to the incompetent front desk lady, who was not having it. My father has not used this membership in over a year and me working out under it for one month is so catastrophic to to the business and to her secretary position that I was turned away at the door. Such little understanding of reality and the customer base has definitely made me ponder telling my dad to cancel the membership he pays for. I love La fitness it has been my commercial gym of choice for 5 years. I understand the slippery slope of not having my own personal membership, however given the circumstance and what I explained to the incompetent secretary the way this was handled has left a sour taste in my mouth. She had horrible customer service and refused to try and find a solution that worked, she lied about the free pass sign up. And took an attitude with me throughout the entire conversation. I hope LA fitness and this location can continue to be successful; However I hope this employee is fired for her awful attitude and cluelessness on how to interact with paying customers. read more

The gym is nice, close, with generally reasonable hours and the personal trainers were very helpful and encouraging. Customer service in general leaves a bit to be desired. However, beware of Lydia! Read in detail what you sign. What she explained to me and my boyfriend, and what we signed were very different. We explained we were interested in personal training to "get back in the swing of things" because it had been a while since either of us had been in the gym. What we both believed to be a month-to-month personal training contract with the ability to cancel with a 30-day notice ended up being a one-year contract with only 72 hours to cancel. Additionally, we believed we were to have one-hour sessions with the personal trainer. However, our sessions were only 30 minutes with the trainer directly. The other 30 minutes was cardio "recommended by the trainer" done on our own. We learned of the one-year contract and 72-hour cancellation policy at about 25 days in when we attempted to cancel the renewal of the personal training sessions. Ultimately, we acknowledged our misunderstanding of the contract and asked for a cancellation with some sort of grace toward our misunderstanding, but Lydia refused. Over the next few months her story continued to change as I inquired about how to end the contract prior to one year. The policy is to pay half of the remaining contract balance and there is no flexibility in that. Coincidentally, I was able to end the contract five months later due to a medical condition. I am fully willing to admit my own neglect in reading the contract fully before I signed. However, be aware, the details you receive might not be accurate. We asked lots of questions and were clear that we only needed some temporary guidance to get started in the gym again, but were still misguided and misinformed. It took seeking assistance outside of this location and repeated phone calls over several months to get the matter resolved. Only by chance did a medical condition turn out to be the solution. read more

Been a member of LA Fitness since 2016. When they consolidated and closed Glendale this became the closest location. The renovation they did, was simply adding green turf. The machines are typically more broke than functioning, ridiculous wait times for the equipment that does work, the trainers and sales team I see sitting around more than trying to offer sessions or doing what they're supposed to be doing, selling. I have had interactions with several staff who actually don't care whatsoever about anything except getting a small check. They are supposed to be friendly and helpful and they give you the dirtiest looks and don't even greet you when you arrive. If it weren't for the classes, I would not even go. My husband and I get so tired of never being able to get parking, the locker rooms are almost always dirty. Come on do better. You'd be upset if you lost memberships and if that is your main priority then fix the problems with the gym itself and your staff. CLEAN UP YOUR GYM AND STAFF. read more

It's a good gym, don't get me wrong. Great weight equipment. The ellipticals upstairs are a bit dated, but I can deal with that. However, they are super aggressive about signing you up for personal training, and that's been a bad experience. I got taken around by one trainer who I liked and who understood my goals, who then signed me up for a package. I only found out after signing that I would not actually be working with him (that's in the fine print). So that's deceptive. Then they have this whole minimum 6-month package. That kinda sucks. What if you just want to try it out a few times to see if it is right for you? And the refund policy is pretty unforgiving...only 50% for unused visits. That's pretty lame. Lame for me, great for them making money. The current membership coordinator seems to have a superior attitude and doesn't seem particularly friendly, so there's that also. If you take steroids and want to bulk up, this is probably the place for you. If you're more laid back and just want a low-key place to get some exercise, I would recommend the Monon Community Center over this (if you're a Carmel resident). And if you're looking for personal training, I would try another gym that let's you try out a few sessions before committing, and that doesn't lock you into a long-term contract. ============================ Update 7/2/19: I'm downgrading my 2-star review to a 1. I cancelled my personal fitness program and was told I only had 30 days to use up the extra sessions I couldn't make or my trainer couldn't make, which ended up being quite a few for various reasons, including vacations for both me and my trainer. But oh, if you want to keep those sessions beyond 30 days, you can do that by signing up for more sessions. In other words, you have to pay more money to use up what you've already paid for. Never do business with this gym. Once they get your credit card you are on your own to jump through hoops to get it cancelled. They continue to charge it even after you have cancelled. Best and largest of the LA Fitness' 2 story floor plans. Nice, well-kept, clean gym frequented by predominately white upper middle class people. Good number of hottie MILFs come here too. Not a lot of meatheads. Less populated than other gyms in the chain, and you really only have to worry about space if you're going to a spinning class or one of the aerobic sessions. If you're doing free weights, you're good! Front desk and sales staff are very friendly. But most of the personal trainers leave something to be desired. If I was assigned a below-average shape middle aged lady as my personal trainer, I'd be pissed. The odds of that happening at this gym is high. Is it crazy to think a personal trainer should look... I dunno.... in shape?? They have a few guys who look the part but when I watch them train clients, I can't help but notice they look incredibly bored. Bottom line, go someplace else if you want personal training. If you already know what you're doing, then enjoy this well- appointed gym. read more

I do not do LA Fitness much, and normally on travel. They have been fairly nice to my mother-in-law and father-in-law. That gets them the 3 stars. The place is clean-enough but nothing spectacular. While there I never saw ANYONE cleaning equipment. . so wipe down before AND after. The equipment is really showing its age. The stairmasters look like they have been around since Bill Clinton was president. The place has raquetball courts and a gym for some basketball, but I did not partake. A great selection of weight lifting equipment along with ample parking. We didn't use the kids area, but it is cute enough place to store the little ones while you work out. Staff was friendly however this company is MONEY HUNGRY. Read all the fine lines in your contract because they will omit in person important information like having to pay for MONTHS after you cancel your contract. Do not sign up for personal training, again- omitted that the sessions were only 30 min not 60 min sessions. By the time the trainer gets done talking and warming up it's maybe a 15 min session.
