I went back here after they finished remodeling, and I think it looks very nice. I will say it looked like they got new machines but also kept the old machines as well which was a little confusing to me. It is decorated nicely, and I feel like there are more machines for people to use. Also, there are more free weight stations which is nice. My issue with LA Fitness continues to be the same, it's over crowded for my preferences. The bronzeville location is my favorite location as it pertains to the Hyde Park as well as the South Loop. The Bronzeville location is always bustling with activity. I can't wait to go to see the renovations that they have done and will update my review after that. The Wednesday night classes are always lit and I appreciate that there is always someone at least in the women's bathroom making sure that it is clean in the evening time. am a long-time paying member of this location, and my experience with the front desk staff at approximately 11:00 a.m. today 5/29/26 was extremely disappointing. For many people, walking into a gym takes courage. Whether someone is beginning a fitness journey, returning after an illness, working through a disability, or simply trying to improve their health, a gym should be a place where members feel welcomed, respected, and supported. Instead, I was met with a front desk employee whose tone was hostile, aggressive, dismissive, and unprofessional. Rather than greeting me respectfully and explaining the issue professionally, the interaction quickly became confrontational and left me feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. As a paying member, I expect to be treated with basic courtesy, dignity, and respect. Customer service should not be an afterthought. Members should be greeted with professionalism and kindness, not curt responses, hostility, or disrespect. The facility itself may have equipment and amenities, but the front desk staff are often the first impression of the entire organization. Unfortunately, my experience today 5/29/26 was the exact opposite of what a member should expect when entering a fitness facility. I should feel safe and not where an employee is using a hostile, aggressive attitude and disrespectful tone towards a member of many years. I have already contacted corporate regarding the incident because I believe staff training in professionalism, communication, and customer service is needed. I heard they renovated this location and, against my own declaration, I went to check it out. I love it! I was like a kid seeing Chuck E Cheese's for the first time. The UNSANITARY conditions of the Pool at LA Fitness Bronzeville have been going on since July 10th 2023. It's INFURIATING and SAD that as of August 24th, it's STILL an issue!!! I DON'T UNDERSTAND why this location is compelled to consistently do a half ass job when it comes to the maintenance and upkeep of the Pool!!! The filthiest LA Fitness there is in America, probably. All the equipment is rickety and falling apart. Absolutely nobody puts weights in order after use. There are dumbbells, bars, and plates lying out of order all over the gym. People constantly walking out of emergency exits, triggering alarms. Recently, someone somehow went into my locker, even though it was locked, and stole items from me. This gym is straight up hood, and should be avoided. read more

Overall I really wanted to like this location. It's 5 minutes closer to me then the signature club in town and takes 5 minutes less to park since there's no garage but an open lot. I so save 5 bucks a day on parking which adds up goijg 4 to 5 times a week. The gym itself is clean enough and the men's locker room is fine. The layout is better then the signature club as the machines are closer together vs the opposite side of the gym if your switching between machines. There's also more squat racks and calf raisers and bench presses. But no one cleans up after themselves here. I'm finding I spend an extra half hour reracking others weights or searching for the dumbell or barbell I want. The dumbell shelve is awful. Half the dumbells are missing. The ones on the shelf are out of order and not even set in pairs. While some of them are being used but more of them are in random piles around the gym not being touched. The barbells are the same. Half arnt racked, the ones that are our out of order with the lower weights on the bottom.... the others again sprawled all over the gym unused. Plates? Almost every squat rack, bench press, leg press ect has the previous users weights still on them. The rest of the plates are piled against the walls, other machines, or in random piles. The ones on the racks are again out of order and you'll have to pull off 45s to get to the smaller weights. It's very clear no one cleans up after themselves and no one staffed at the gym cares. I typically go early in the morning and even then it's a mess. I don't think at any point in the day is the gym reorganized. The smoothie bar never has anyone behind it as well. The one time I went in the afternoon someone had a boom box blasting music for everyone to hear. There seems to be an overall disrespect for the equipment and others here. In one picture you'll see a gentleman higging two benches one to place his bag and towl and another to place his dumbells. He was in the middle exercising NOT using the benches for his actual work, while every other bench was being used. I am literally going to spend and extra 15 minutes commuting and 20 bucks a week to go to to the other location. The Hyde Park Siganture club is a night and day difference. read more

This is my second time around with a membership for LA and using this as my primary location. Overall a decent gym for the following reasons: 1. Pretty spacious and I've never seen it over crowded even in its peak hours. 2. Their pool has been complimented as one of the best in the area from members at other gyms that I talk to. They also have Aqua fit classes which a lot of others do not. 3. They have a Kiddie Klub where parents can have care for their kids while they work out which is convenient. 4. From past experience, their fitness class instructors are typically pretty knowledgeable and give a great experience 5. They have a great cafe area for protein and healthy menu options However, this location is not the most organized. I've notice barbells/dumbbells not being put back and staff not really paying attention. Some of the resistance machines are "out of service" for extended periods of time which is a bummer. read more

For being a signature club it's pretty underwhelming. The location and views are great but they got rid of the towel service. The minimal products they put in the locker rooms like soap and lotion are not quality at all. The weights are never organized and the space is usually pretty dusty. I'd expect more variety of training equipment, organization, cleanliness, quality of products, and towel service for a signature location. Covid is not an excuse for towels because midtown, east bank club, FFC, and Equinox all still have towels service.... read more

Staff is friendly and helpful. The facility is clean and locker rooms are very clean as well. The people that go to this gym are really nice. I left my swimming suit in the women's shower stall and it was left for me in lost and found. This tells me that they are definitely cleaning their showers and they are attempted to return left items. I am very happy to have LA Fitness in my neighborhood!! read more

BEWARE OF THIS CLUB AND SALESPERSON AND TRAINER KVON B.!!! I had a call from KVON B. at this club on June 27, 2023. He was at first very personable and told me that I could come in for a free training session because my insurance company allowed one free session. He seemed very friendly over the phone, and I felt comfortable enough to tell him about my recent cancer diagnosis. I scheduled an appointment for June 28, 2023, at 9:30 am. I went in, and KVON was as polite as can be. We had a good workout session. He sat down with me to go over what the costs of a personal trainer would be. He told me three monthly sessions are $ 195.00 per year, charged upfront. I was very explicit in my questioning, leaving no room for misunderstanding when I verified that he quoted the correct price; he assured me that $ 195.00 per year was all I would pay. He said it because the billing is "bundled and annualized." I agreed to that pricing and he had me sign the contract electronically. I know better than to sign something I cannot see. He had me sign on the electronic pad as he explained what I was signing, saying I would get a copy in my e-mail. I could not see the actual verbiage as it was not made available. I know better because I am in sales, but I was conned by his seemingly genuine personality and desire to help me. When I arrived home, it was nagging me. I pulled up the contract in my e-mail, and not only did he charge me $ 99.00 more ($ 294.00) upfront; the contract stated it is $ 195.00 per month with an annual cost north of $ 2,400.00. I was livid; I called the club and asked for KVON. The young lady transferred me, and I was disconnected. I called back, told the young lady I wanted to speak to a manager, and explained why. Kvon then came to the phone; I told him how dishonest this was and told him this was a blatant fraud. He suddenly changed like Kujo and was on the defensive and said this was for my health. (As if he cares so much about my health, lol). I told him I wanted to cancel, and he sarcastically said that you must come in to cancel if you wished to cancel. I went in that evening and told the young lady at the front desk that I wanted to speak with a manager. She went and got Kvon. He came out on the defensive. He said there was a misunderstanding; I said, "No, you knew perfectly well what you were doing. I asked you specifically in closed-ended questions about the pricing". This was when the truth came out. He was poking fun at my cancer diagnosis. He sarcastically said, "That is on you because I am healthy." I did not become upset because I knew he was very insecure and unintelligent. He went on and on and continued to argue with and antagonize me. I said, "I will not argue with you; I want to speak to a manager." He said, "You are looking at him." I continued with the young lady, canceled the membership, and walked out as he continued to spew insults. Please beware of these people and their sales tactics, especially beware of KVON B. They asked questions like how many times you go to Starbucks a month? They are trying to size up your wallet. He also asked questions like who I have as a support system? This is playing on your vulnerability as if they will support you in need. None of this is genuine, all they are trying to do is get you to sign a contract for their commissions, and if you do not cancel within 72 hours, you are screwed! read more

This is my neighborhood gym. I go here on my off days when I'm not seeing my trainer or boxing. It's a shame that I now have to write this review because I have complained to management already several times including 3 just this month. This gym is FILTHY! It makes no sense for this gym to look like this. All the ppl that come and all the revenue they make they should be able to hiring someone who is capable to clean this gym! The one guy who is suppose to clean is ALWAYS. Walking around talking to girls and NEVER doing his job. The trainers who when they aren't training which is always should be reracking weights and helping keep their gym clean. Instead they are talking. Don't even get me started on the bathrooms/locker rooms smh... The manager Tiffany that I spoke to today says that the guy who is take with cleaning cleaned up today but the pictures I posted are from today. I shouldn't come in the gym when it opens and it's already dirty. On Sunday we couldn't even start class on time Bc the gym was so dirty the instructor had to clean the room before class. La Fitness you have to do better. If this gym wasn't in the Hood you best believe they would make sure it was tidy. DO NOT GO TO THIS BRANCH. RUDE, SCAMMERS AND DISRESPECTFUL. The way they treat this customers is just unacceptable. They never told me there would be an annual fee without being an actual annual member. When I wanted to cancel, I asked them about it and they told me since the manager is not available, that I need to come back on Monday and that I would not be charged as long as I cancel before the first. Then when I went back on Sep 30, they (sometime who wasn't the manager) just directly printed out a cancellation paper stating that the billing cycle is on the 26th and charged me for an extra month I did not want to be a part of and did not tell me anything until I asked. The manager is just plain rude when asked that he promised different things when signing up for the membership. I've been to several LA Fitness locations in the greater Chicago area. Honestly, though this location isn't in the best of neighborhoods, it is one of my preferred locations. It is generally clean, very spacious, the machines look to be in good working order (though I rarely go on them). The pool is my go-to and I enjoy this location's pool. It's usually clean and not over-crowded. The only issue is that if you go in the afternoon, the sun blares into the pool area and makes it difficult to see for half a lap. But overall this is probably on my top 3 LA Fitness locations. read more

This location is a huge improvement over the old location on 47th. Clean and spacious. Tons of natural lighting, when is not dreary and winter. All new machines. Locker rooms that actually beckon you to shower and get ready there and lockers themselves that are wide enough for adults. This is on par to the new Ravenswood location. Still no towel service but everything else is nice. I haven't tried their pool or classes but the sauna room is super and smells of cabin in the woods. read more

The gym is cool, but the management/membership sign up staff is completely rude and unprofessional. I wanted to cancel my membership (that was frozen the whole year, I only used it 2 weeks) due to COVID because I didn't feel comfortable and safe being in a gym that would be open to so many people, while on the call the employee says "That's not what I wanted to hear" and blatantly hung up in my face. So I am a past member of this gym. I used to live across the street from it 3 years ago, it was very convenient. I moved back to the area recently and thought I'd inquire about joining. When I went to this location I told them I wanted a guest past and would possibly rejoin. The man assisting me (about 5'5 with curly hair and glasses) went right into hard sales mode. Once he put my number in the system he pointed out that I'd been there before as well as other gyms and basically told me "you've been here before so you know how it works." How rude! Yes I'm a previous customer, is that a bad thing? The fact that I may come back is a good thing right?? The reason I wanted a guest pass was because I wanted to check the gym out and see if they had changed since the last time I was there. Unfortunately when I was a member before, the gym was not the cleanest, the machines were old and worn and there were always bums/crack heads soliciting. He ultimately said I had to make a decision to either join on the spot or not. I didn't want to join before I took a look around to see what I would be getting this time. I have been a LA Fitness member for over 10 years and have gone to numerous clubs in different states and cities and this club is by far the WORST club I've ever seen.... extremely unorganized .... the free weights are EVERYWHERE BUT RACKED.. they removed the cable weights due to "safety".. the members don't respect the club and the workers don't enforce it.... it smells terrible ... the set up is horrible and parking is a mess. I've been to many LA Fitness locations and this is the only one I've come across that doesn't offer free WiFi. Considering that it's like a dead zone once your inside I find it hard to load the video of the workouts I'm trying out and even my music gets cut off. The girls bathroom is always dirty. Now I understand that the gym closes at a certain time but staff walks around telling you again that they are closing I find it very annoying especially when you already KNOW they are closing in 5 mins and made it very clear cutting the lights out. read more

Upkeep could be better and For some reason, the classes are always cancelled at this location. Usually, ALL the classes except cycle and aquafit are cancelled for no less than 3 to 4 days per week. Quite often, classes are cancelled EVERYDAY of the week. The schedule says "maintenance", but every single week?? For the same room? Very unfair to the members who have paid for full use of the gym, which always includes classes. And for those of us who only have single-use and non-signature memberships, we cannot even use the next closest gym on 52nd and lake park (signature). We are boxed in. Neither that specific club nor LA Fitness corporate have offered any real explanation for the closures, no concrete timeline for when classes will regularly and consistently operate on schedule, no allowance for use of other gyms in the area other than to pay for an upgrade when we're not even receiving the services we initially paid for, and no offers to partially refund our monthly membership fees. Sad because this gym started off nice and is right off King drive which is a very nice boulevard, and this area needs a high quality gym. It has been a few months since I've been to this gym in 35th. It is bc I had a family emergency and have not been able to attend. However these complaints are the same as when I was attending. This gym is filthy. The women shower and dressing room be filthy. The trainers for aqua fit use to be late and came in socializing. I was going to begin working out using the weights. However after reading reviews and seeing the equipment, I dare. And one would hope since the trainers socialize more than train that they would pickup weights and put them in proper place. However all of this is due to poor management, lack of concern and the location of facility. I guess I'll look for another location. If I can't find a new location that will accommodate. But if I'm not satisfied w location I'll change clubs meaning cancel membership. This is not what I pay for. So unfortunate. read more
