The final straw was when he showed up 16 minutes late and still tried to count it as my session. Then the following week he double-booked me and had me work out with someone else. I left in tears. Back in May, Brandon and Brooke told us this was resolved, that I wouldn't owe a remaining balance, and that I could cancel. Yet I'm still getting emails saying I owe money. My husband has also repeatedly asked to speak with the mysterious "Kev," and despite multiple promises, we've never received a call. It's frustrating to pay a premium for a service that wasn't delivered and then have to fight just to get the issue resolved. The way this has been handled has been incredibly disappointing. I'm posting this in hopes that maybe someone will call us back and finally help us settle this!

I am someone who finds it hard to get motivated to work out regularly, and even if I do manage to drag myself onto the treadmill, I don't push myself as hard as I should. As for strength training, forget it-- I was way too clueless and intimidated to get into an effective routine on my own. Enter Mickey and No Pink Dumbbells boot camp. This is the first time I have ever looked forward to working out. I am seeing great results, but I like that the emphasis is on being able to do more during the workouts and feeling healthier and stronger, not on losing weight. The other people there are all shapes and sizes with varying fitness levels, and although I feel a healthy competition because I'm a competitive person, Mickey reminds us to compete only with ourselves and to challenge ourselves. I really like that. The group atmosphere is friendly and supportive, but folks are there to work up a good sweat. It's a perfect balance. The workouts are intense, which I love because I always leave feeling accomplished, but they are easily tailored to individual needs. This class fits all ages and sizes and we bond as a group. I've never been bored once because it's never the same. Mickey puts a ton of time and effort into her program. She inspires and encourages us to work harder and not to give up. And here I still am a much happier and more self-confident person. The facility is always kept clean despite the amount of traffic and types of activity the place sees. I always receive a cheerful greeting from staff, regardless of whether I encounter them at the front desk or elsewhere in the gym. I've been training with Jay, the trainer here, for more than a couple of years now and it's been wonderful. He consistently prioritizes safety and monitors my form. I'm working against self-image and my own perception of my capabilities, and I am amazed at the patience he has shown me. He looks out for me like nobody else in my life, and it really helps me cope. The GM, Hannah, works tirelessly to keep things running smoothly, but always retains a cheery demeanor and a sense of humor. I worked in food service/retail/customer service most of my life and I can only guess at the types of behavior she is subjected to in her role, but you'd never know it from the way she approaches each day. For brevity's sake I won't mention all the names (it truly is all of the staff) but everyone on staff and most of the members always brighten my day when I encounter them. It makes me feel welcome and safe when I wouldn't otherwise. I didn't join a gym with the expectation of making friends, but it really feels as if that is what has happened. The layout of the gym feels like a maze. There's no hydro beds. They restricted hours further by closing at 9 pm on Friday and 7 pm on Saturday and Sunday so I'm forced to only go Monday through Thursday. Now on top of all of that there's only 2 working showers and neither have Warm water. It's November and the water is freezing. Please make improvements. The staff is great but the gym needs real work and the old hours back.

Verdict: Big gym. Small spaces. Many machines. Many members…read more Disclosure: This review is based on their trial day and in comparison with other nearby gyms. I can handle the crowded atmosphere and limited space by the free weights. That comes with the price point and should be expected. The big turnoffs for me were the smells and things seeming unclean. Judgement free zone when you're talking about people's fitness (unless you get the infamous "Lunk Alarm"). Cleanliness doesn't get a pass. The gym had the essence of many people on the move. Only about half the members were wiping down the equipment when they were done. Saw someone getting sick in the bathroom when I went to wash my hands. I know these things aren't directly caused or controlled by the Planet Fitness or the staff but they are a result of the business model and the environment. On the positive side, they have lots of treadmills, bikes, and ellipticals. You'll probably find one of those open anytime. The rest is hit or miss at a peak hour but you'll have options. The best part of Planet Fitness is the price. You can exercise here for less than the competition; except the outdoors.

I've had three shoulder surgeries, breathing issues, and back issues. In dealing with these issues, EmPower has been by my side, on my side, helping me get strong again. Carla Beam, who is the General Manager at EmPower, has worked with me through all of my challenges, by altered my personal training sessions to meet my needs. She has worked with my physical therapist to ensure my workouts are helping my body and that I am not doing things to extend my recovery, which I probably would have if I was going to a 'normal' gym. As I write this review, we are three months into the COVID pandemic. Most of my friends are struggling to keep their strength training going, but I am actually getting stronger. When this all started, EmPower did not let their members miss a beat! Josh and Carla quickly started brainstorming and came up with a plan to keep members engaged and working out in their homes. They have offered live Zoom sessions many times throughout the week that have been awesome! I have been working out with EmPower about three times per week since this started, and I am amazed at the quality of every workout. I have very little equipment at home; however, Carla has come up with alternatives to using your typical gym equipment. And, every single workout has been different!
