Location cant be doing well. -jan was like any other month.. most gyms are huge on new year resolutions, membership drives etc (no ones joining) -the PT company and the food/drinks/smoothies place closed a few years ago (so theres empty old spaces that make it look bad... or look like location is going out of business) -pool usually ok... but hot tub lol... 50/50 at best its open. Staff do their best with a tired old building thats been ignored by corporate for too long; not a knock at all on them. Place is not clean. Men's room has busted locker doors. Giant pothole outside at the entrance and they don't care about anything.

This place has really gone downhill - it's been 7 years since they gave a crap. Hold your nose when you enter the bathrooms - smells like a porta potty after a Kenny chesney concert - seriously is gag level smells. Multiple machines are broken all the time. 60% of the sinks in locker room are broken. Water fountains go uncleaned for multiple days (you can tell since the same piece of gum has been stuck on one water fountain for the last 3 days). You'd think LA fitness would work a smidge harder to keep this nice in such a good location.... But they don't. Also locker doors are smashed all over the place, bathroom stall doors don't lock shut abs are bent out of place. I would recommend literally almost any other gym around. Oh I forgot to mention the attentiveness and customer service skills of the employees - texting and scrolling through Instagram is clearly more important than doing your job so please keep doing that and don't worry about paying attention to your customers read more

I have never been in any establishment this horrific. I am in town seeing family and figured I would use my LA Fitness membership from my home base in NJ. Wasn't sure my app would work but no worries there was not a staff member in sight as I entered. It's SO disgustingly filthy- it realy should be closed by the Dept of Health. The machines are filthy and rusty. Pins and handles are dirty, decaying and in some cases missing entirely. The floor is an OLD rug- do you have any idea how much dirt must be in that tattered filthy thing?! There are major rips in the rug- it was worn out 20 years ago! Minimal AC. From what I have read I am glad I avoided the locker rooms and water fountain- the vending machine was empty so I guess bring your own but I would not put anything of my own down on the filthy surfaces. On the way out- no staff. In constrast my home base LA Fitness is immaculate. There is a full time cleaner in constant motion wiping vacuming and scrubing. The staff greet you cheerfully, wishing you a good workout and say goodbye wishing you a good day. The equipment looks brand new (NO RUST!-EW!!) and no dust- let alone the thick grime on everything here. It's bright and cheerful with good AC and a modern composite floor surface that does not accumulate grime. There are handsanitizer stations every 50 feet along all walls and bottles of cleaner and paper toels eveywhere- none of either were evident here. The vending machine is always well stocked with cold water and various protein shakes etc. The lockers, bathrooms and water fountains are always perfectly cleaned. I do not understand how a place as disgusting as this can exist. I cannot imagine how the same company runs both places. Is there no standard required to use the LA Fitness name? I've been going to this gym for years and it has gone drastically downhill. There are several extremely rude employees. They yell at people for not wearing masks within 3 feet of them. Today I saw the same employee with his feet up at his desk talking on the phone with his mask on his chin not covering his nose or mouth. They are also selective with who they enforce this rule. The equipment is also in terrible shape. Everything is covered in rust. There seems to be no air conditioning as it feels to be about 80 degrees inside. 3/4 of the treadmill screens don't work. Decent facility - it's big, but generally crowded after the workday, which is typical. It seems that in the post-Covid era, there are somewhat fewer members. There's a pool, that often is listed as "closed for repair & maintenance" as well as a hot tub. There are racquetball courts. The men's locker area (and I assume the ladies) has a sauna. The babysitting service has resumed now that Covid is under control, for those who need it + there's a snack bar during prime hours. There's also Wi-Fi, which is a blessing & a curse.  Often, a member will sit on a piece of equipment, but not use it for the intended purpose - they're checking their Twitter feed or texting.  This is particularly annoying during crowded times, which is often.  There is a good variety of weights, weight machines & cardio equipment.  There's also a basketball court, a cycling studio, & an aerobics/yoga general purpose room.  They offer several classes, which, I believe, do not require an additional fee.  There is also a KIDS CLUB that looks like a fun area to leave children while inside (not open at all times) but I think requires an additional fee.  Personal Training is also available for an extra fee. I've never been inside the ladies locker area, so I can only comment on the guy's side.  The lockers are smallish, so there's not a lot of space for very much.  And, the area can be very crowded.  What surprises me is that many members don't use a lock - so what appears to be a usable locker often isn't.  This surprised me having moved here from the DC area, where everyone always used a lock.  Also, there may be a single item in a locker & you never know if it's just an item that someone forgot or if the member is in the gym; so another possible un-usable locker.  Post-Covid, there are quite a number of broken lockers, that is a new phenomonen. I assume other members got mad about something & punched them out, creating even more unusable lockers. Others that aren't destroyed just have the knob broken off, so they also cannot, effectively, be used. It's up to the Club to fix them, but it's a shame this is even an issue. There seems to be enough showers as I never had to wait, except for a time when many of the shower curtains were vandalized, so the stalls were not enclosed. At least maanagement was able to resolve this by now using curtains of a different material that appears to be tough to rip apart. Most importantly, there's always been hot water available in the showers.  As noted above, there's a sauna that was pretty decent & usually is working. Post-Covid, I have not gone in - too enclosed for my liking, but a sauna has to be compact for it to stay hot, so that's just my preference to stay out now. It took me six years, but I finally found a couple sinks that do dispence hot water for shaving. For those early years I thought geting hot water from a sink was impossble, as there are about a dozen sinks available, but now I know which to use. The room is varying degrees of clean, but the soap dispensers in the showers mostly seem to be filled & paper towels in those dispensers also are filled. But there's also some degree of ripping a paer towel machine off the wall, which I've noticed in both the locker room & in the gym itself. There's a lot of anger taken out on the things in this gym. Another oddity that occurs more than one would expect is the sudden loss of electricity that occurs out of nowhere.  In three years, I'd say it's happened 6 times while I was there & not a result of a thunder storm.  So when it happens, they tell everyone to leave.  I recall once a couple years ago they closed early on a Sunday when it was beginning to snow at noon.  The forcast was for 2" - 4" over 16 hours, so not exactly a white-out.  Maybe they think it's Miami & that the area isn't used to dealing with snow.  NEWSFLASH - it snows in Pittsburgh during the winter.   Another oddity is that at least half the time I go, there's no one at the front desk; just the barcode readers there for members to scan themselves.  So it seems that anyone can walk-in, point something at a scanner & go.  The nrarby sales staff seems quite oblivious to the comings & goings, so who knows how many non-members walk in.   There seems to be plenty of parking & they do a good job of clearing snow, when required. Their snow clearing contractor does not spare the rocksalt. The hours are OK on weekdays, but very poor on weekends, 8:00am - 6:00pm. Lastly I'll add that during my time, the gym has replaced all the stair climbing machines & some of the treadmills. The weights are the same as my first visit in 2015, but they don't wear-out. They used to have a great collection of dumbbells in the stretching area, but it has dwindled down over time. read more

Unfortunately, all the negative reviews here are accurate. Rusty, sometimes bordering broken equipment plagues this gym. The men's locker room is not well maintained. To provide an example, the soap dispenser for several of the sinks are empty and have not been refilled in the 2 months since I've started going here. It's like the staff is beyond caring. Even worse, there are a noticeable amount of people that don't even make an attempt to clean the equipment after use. I love the variety of equipment, but I just can't keep going here. Whenever I called the regional customer support number to cancel my membership, I raised my concerns and their response was that they're already aware that this location is basically falling apart. I just moved too Pittsburg from NY and my daughter and I decided to check out La Fitness. The salmon was very nice and very helpful. He should us around and told us all about the gym and should us were everything was. Only negative thing for me was th price for a family plan which was a bit high. Frustrating. They can't seem to keep lifeguards there, which means no lifeguard; pool is closed. It's been well over a week the pool has been closed and they haven't even had the decency to send out daily messages to members that it is closed. You get to the door and a sign is posted....after I drive there, I find out. The aqua classes are still listed on their schedule, so since they aren't canceled, you would assume they would be taking place. C'mon LA Fitness......do better......if there was another gym nearby with a pool, I would cancel my membership. read more

The Hotel California of gyms - they want to make it so you can never leave, or at least never stop paying. Never, NEVER sign a personal training agreement with this place - it is designed to make it nearly impossible to cancel. Seriously Don't do it!! I bought a six month personal training plan which was outrageous in cost - worked out to $65 per 25 minute session! Trainer was good but I simply could not get there with my work and travel schedule. Was told on signing I could cancel in 3 months even if 6 month contract. Oh but look at the small print on your contract (which you don't get when to sign up BTW, in have to go to my account online and download the contract to read it) and see you are on the hook for 1/2 of total contact if you end early. I thought OK will still save money and I can use the 6 sessions I have banked still. Oh no! the training manager says - they are void the second you cancel. So I canceled my membership as well in protest. They charge me for one month at 1/2 cost and gave me a receipt that said "training buyout" - but the next day my cc was charged for another full month of sessions they won't let me use! Planet Fitness doesn't treat members this way. I feel used I feel that LA Fitness is a scam company. The actual equipment in this club is rusty and I never see staff helping anyone. This location is pretty ridiculous and getting worse by the day. Half the equipment is broke down any given day and never repaired. Since the pandemic there has never been hand sanitizer available for member use with paper towels and soap dispensers always out. Currently, in the men's bathrooms over half the soap dispensers are broken. The bathrooms are grosser than a Jersey truck stop. The staff is too busy sitting with their phones in hand to make anything better. The only reason I still go there is I am grandfathered in a $9.99 a month membership. There is no way I would be the standard $44 a month fee. If you enjoy working out in a creepy horror show of a gym - this place is for you. read more

I have been a member for several months now, and have gone at various times of the day. The number one thing I love about this gym is the staff friendliness! I am referring particularly to Chino, who seems to remember everyone by name and makes sure to greet them whenever he passes by, including me. I enjoy going to a place where they know my name and face. It's a great motivation to go there. This friendliness provides a welcome atmosphere there, which I think affects the members who go there. I generally keep to myself, but I have had the pleasure of meeting several members who I now call my "gym buddies." The place can get a bit crowded, but I have not experienced much wait time for machines or cardio equipment. There are times of the day when members chat up each other while taking up a machine, but that is not the norm. Most members are considerate of others (getting off cardio equipment when others are waiting and offering up the machine or allowing you to "jump in"). The equipment can have "out of order" signs, and there are usually several pieces of cardio equipment that are out of order at any given time. It also seems that it takes quite some time to fix. The TVs don't have many channels and may not work at all. There is also a pool, hot tub, and sauna as added amenities. I cannot attest to those since I haven't used them. The locker rooms seem so large at first, but they can get crowded without having many people in there. There just isn't enough space sometimes, especially if you shower and get dressed there. Speaking of which, the showers are great! Hot water and plenty of it. There is also soap (through a dispenser) to use in each stall, though I do not use it. Class offerings are a good variety and at convenient times for me. I have participated in yoga, spin, and kick box cardio. All were enjoyable and gave a pretty hard workout. The teachers are motivating, but it would be nice if they introduced themselves to newcomers. I've been to many gyms where teachers approach newcomers to introduce themselves and give a quick primer on the class. Nevertheless, they always have offered alternative moves for those of us who are not as fit or are struggling without calling anyone in particular out. I have been a member at the 8700 Duncan Ave Pittsburgh PA 15237 location for several years. The gym was not run well upon my joining and has gone down hill since even before any covid issues. Gym cleanliness was and continues to be a major issue. Some equipment has been literally dirty for years. Wall frame ledges were very dusty. I recently pointed this out to a front desk employee named Rachael and got almost immediate response. The dirty areas I pointed out were cleaned within 10 minutes by Rachael even though she was not a janitorial employee. LA Fitness/Fitness International could take a few pointers from this employee with her performance being mirrored by corporate staff. Machines are mostly the original supplied equipment and have constant repair issues. Many heartbeat sensors on the cardio equipment do not work which makes a good cardio workout impossible. The repair personnel is under staffed for the many locations they have to service about which I inquired. When I joined the club I was told the lease was up soon and upgrades to the machines and other aspects of the gym was in the works(this was two years before covid). No upgrades as of this writing. Did the corporation apply for Covid relief funds? If so since the gym was closed for awhile and then had limited hours I wonder what they did with the money?? Overhead was lower during this time and could have been applied to upgrading, n'est-ce pas? I trust people up the food chain give this their attention since Planet Fitness may be opening up a location very close to this location. read more

La fitness is normally a top of the line gym nation wide. This one just off of mcknight rd is not. A bunch of the treadmills actually show rust on them where paint has peeled off. How old does a inside machine need to be to actually rust? You have to ask yourself that 1. There is a bunch of doors broken off lockers in the locker rooms. The floor in the basketball gym have not been properly cleaned to a nice shine ever since I've been a member for 8 months now. The sky lights in the gym leak water on to the court ever time we get a good rain. They been told about this by me atleast 6 times. I hear yeah we will take care of it. I'll let my manager know...... its been 6 months and still not fixed. The lighting in the gym is terrible they removed 1 of the light fixtures right next to the leak spot in the roof and never replaced it. 2 other lights in the gym have been burned out for 3 months now.......I've told probably every front desk worker atleast 2 times. Still no on fixes it. It's pretty sad. Sucks we are going to have to switch gyms..... Do you ever wondered why they push these free 2 week passes all the time. Its probably because they don't take care of their current customers to keep the good word of mouth spreading around to get more business......they need to offer free passes to get new people in here long enough to sign up then........F them we got their money. Soon to be canceling my membership because this location has also over-sold it's membership. I, too have had to wait for a machine for over 20 minutes - whether it be an elliptical, treadmill, or stair machine. People are rude and don't follow the 20-minute workout guideline when people are waiting. The staff are totally oblivious and ignore you unless you are buying a membership or personal trainer time. My only complaint besides the fact that it's too busy at times is that it's not always the cleanest. The gym is great! No complaints there, I do have a 1 year old son and I was very nervous to put him into the kids club because the workers don't have to be certified in order to work there. I was open to letting him go because I need a good workout my husband wasn't. It's been time where my baby has pooped or won't stop crying and they will come get me. But there has also been times where I go to get him and he is balling crying. Or I go to pick him up and his is on top of a table with no one around him. Apparently there's an unwritten rule that gyms must be grim, concrete prisons and although I've seen worse, this one certainly qualifies. I tried eight treadmills before I found one with a working TV, and the ten channels were not inviting. The guys on duty told me, with an unconvincing smirk, that "new machines are on order." This is a copy of my review from Google - with an added section about the cardio equipment. Everything is very clean and the staff is friendly. Kevin is a nice manager and is easy to talk to. Chris did my personal training assessment and was very attentive, listened to what I was looking for, and was not pushy at all. His positive attitude is part of why I decided to sign up for personal training. Rachel is an amazing personal trainer! She explains exercises thoroughly, answers all of my questions to make sure I'm comfortable with the workouts she assigns, and is just a lovely soul overall. The only thing that I'm not thrilled with - and I wouldn't even consider this a complaint - is that the yoga classes are not consistent. Some instructors are more experienced than others. All of the instructors are kind, but I feel that I get more out of some classes than others. Catherine's yoga class is amazing. It's challenging, but also very educational. She always gives options to ensure that everyone has a successful practice and is doing what is right for their body. She's very knowledgeable and calls the poses by name and explains them well, which I find very helpful as a yoga novice. So, about the cardio equipment - I saw several 1 Star reviews on google complaining about the equipment being broken all of the time. I have not experienced that at all. I've been going to this gym consistently for the past two months and my husband started going to this location a year ago because it's so much nicer than the LA fitness on Penn Ave. Perhaps they've hired different people in the past few months, because I've had a very positive experience with the equipment, the staff, and the facility as a whole. read more

It's an excellent gym and very close to being a four and a quarter star kind of fitness center. lol, the only negatives are no towel service and the locker room gets damn crowded if you go during one of the peak times. Benefits? They have a medium sized lap pool for any Triathlon beginning people and a whirlpool to relax in when you're done. They also have saunas, racquet ball quarts, and basketball courts. If they expand the locker rooms and add towels, this gym goes from 3.25 stars to 4.25 stars overnight. Great value for the money. Tip, if you choose the less expensive Duncan LA Fitness option, you can still hit the other LA Fitness gyms for $5 which i think is reasonable. read more

Could use a little TLC.... The good things: 1. State of the art equipment. The equipment is very nice and easy to use. 2. Check in staff are very friendly. The staff that are at the registration desk are always very helpful and very friendly. 3. Locker room is large. The ladies locker room is very large. It has a ton of lockers, sinks, and showers. 4. Trainers. The trainers are very nice and friendly. The negatives: 1. Packed. It doesn't matter what time of day you go, this place always seems to be packed with members. The employees do not make the guests honor the 20 minute limit, which I think is too short anyway! 2. Trainers. If you opt into the trainer option be aware that there is now an option for master trainers. Also, schedules are booked solid. 3. Cleanliness or should I say uncleanliness. This place needs to a good scrub down. 4. Classes. They offer a wide variety of classes if you like to exercise in the evening. The only class offered in the morning is spinning. 5. Hours. Why do they not open until 8am on Sat and Sunday. It should be open no later than 7am. There are always about 50 people waiting to get in. I will go there for awhile longer but I think another gym would be more appropriate for me. read more

Just went here a few times while visiting family in the area. The gym was ok basically we went in the mornings so it wasn't to packed I would imagine it would be during peak hours but most gyms are. The gym it's self was pretty big I liked the fact it had lots of amenities such as a pool,basketball court and other stuff. I didn't think this gym was very clean while I was there visiting also some of the machines where aged quite a bit. Did have a nice free weight area. Locker rooms where you ok but nothing to special. I just felt with the amount of members that use this gym it could be a little nicer and more clean that's all. They did have a area for protein shakes and what not in a back corner. One thing that kind of bugged me is I don't think they had working wifi while I was there and that is always a disappointment for me when I'm visiting a gym other than that it was ok and served its purpose while I was there. read more

This gym is mainly "bros" who like to grunt and compare themselves to other people. Also, much of the cardio equipment is constantly broken. Right now, there are 6 stairmasters, but 5 say do not use. How can you let 5 out of 6 machines break down without fixing them? The only one that you can use has jagged plastic sticking out near where you place your foot. The gym itself is very hot, which isn't very fun when you're doing cardio. Most of the TVs attached to the cardio machines don't work very well, either. They have those fuzzy lines going across the screen. Also, I've found most gyms this expensive provide locker room keys, but you have to bring your own lock here. I know this is the "it" gym of the area, but it's not my favorite. read more

We've been members for a few months now, so I feel like I can write an accurate review. I come to LA Fitness 6-7 days a week, and I really like it. Yes, some days it's very crowded, especially after 5:30, but it's never super difficult to find an open piece of equipment. For some odd reason, this place is jam packed on Monday nights, and it might be difficult to find a parking space. But once inside, it's easy to navigate the crowd to get in a good work out. The spin classes are awesome! We've also tried a step and abs class that kicked our butts. It's nice to have access to a pool and hot tub after a work out, and I hope to start using the pool much more as I start training for a triathlon. Having a sauna is great too. My only observation is that, like one of the other reviewers mentioned, the garbage in the ladies room is usually overflowing. And people don't always wipe down equipment when they are done. Now that's just nasty. I work in health care and am all too aware of MRSA, C. Diff, E Coli and numerous other bacteria and germs that can be acquired from sharing gym equipment. They provide antibacterial soap and paper towels, people. Let's use them. LA Fitness is the nicest gym I've been to. I will continue to be a daily gym rat as long as there are open ellipticals and spin bikes for me! read more
