LA FOGATA MEXICAN FOOD I've been stopping at this little Mexican restaurant in Greenfield since I was a teenager. I'm pretty sure if I drive through Greenfield on Highway 101 and don't stop here, it would somehow throw the universe off balance. My go-to order everywhere is chile rellenos, so I've had them at a lot of places over the years. I can honestly say these are my favorite chile rellenos anywhere. They come with this amazing white cream sauce that I've never seen anywhere else. You can order them à la carte, but do yourself a favor and get the plate with rice and beans. The rice and beans are ridiculously good and absolutely worth it. This time I got mine to go because we were in a hurry, which is why the photo is a cardboard box sitting on my lap in the car instead of a nice plate on a table like a civilized person. If you're driving Highway 101 and passing through Greenfield, this place is definitely worth the stop. read more

Great spot to stop by while visiting the Tesla Supercharger, called 15 minutes before arriving for pick-up and it was ready to go! Friendly service -- we got veggie super burrito, a bean/rice/cheese burrito + avocado, small salad, guacamole and chips and salsa and two mineral waters, total was $46 Everything was super fresh, tomatoes had great flavor, guacamole was large chunks of fresh avocado. Best option in the whole plaza for a great meal, the ambiance is casual and clean inside and there is a restroom for customers to use. read more

Came here to grab a bite to eat while waiting for the car to charge. Waitress was nice and hospitable but service was slow to back around once we asked for a little more time to decide. It was not particularly busy either. The food we ordered was pretty basic, tacos burritos and quesadilla. Everything looked the same with slight variations. I ordered the La Fogata Special and was not particularly impressed either unfortunately, especially given the price. Decor looked to be covered in dust and the tables were pretty worn down. Would not expect this business to survive if the location were in a more competitive area. read more

Today we stopped by the local favorite spot in Greenfield as our go to was closed unfortunately. At first site walking in, it's a bit outdated, decorations were as plain as it gets for an authentic mexican restaurant, seats and tables were old fashion table and chairs, no booths, no table cloths, no utensils untill food comes out... nothing that screamed hot spot ambience. Waitress brought chips and salsa, chips were warm but I doubt home made and the salsa was a red salsa that was a watered down version of enchilada sauce blended with a serrano pepper. We ordered the half Chile Verde plate and a Sope & Enchilada plate, $13.95 each, pricing in my opinion is a bit high for what you get, I'm not sure were the $ came from but should be $$$ plates and other menu items are listed in picture. My Sope had very little chicken which was disappointing, little lettuce and spinkle of cheese with a drizzle of sourcream, the cheese enchilada was flat not much cheese, this enchilada was very tasty however, just wish it had more to it, beans were delish no complaints, the rice was bland with little to no flavor, my wife didn't eat hers and left it and she's authentic Mexican as it gets. The Chile Verde had really nice flavor in the sauce, but the pork meat was bland. Were shortcuts taken ?? We were told tortillas were homemade, but definitely were not. Overall this place was nothing to brag about but was just okay, the service was one waitress and she did ok when asked to get something. I am wondering if this place has run it's course and is giving up and not a care of quality. I'm willing to give this place another shot and will try something different but at these prices and I know everything has gone up... I expect better. read more

I love the sopes and the tacos of Asada. The asada is fresh and is marinated. The tortillas (corn) are homemade and I love how the sopes are fried to perfection and bubble up. The filling is on the inside like a balloon. My favorite are the ones filled with picadillo or the ones with guacamole. Everything is fairly priced. read more

Instead of the food I was forced to concentrate on a little girl maybe age 3, jumping up and down on her child seat and screaming. The menudo was delicious with home made corn tortillas. Too bad the guest experience included two very indulgent ladies and a screaming tot. Head injury potential was too harrowing to contemplate. The place is great for old white people crowd. The music is low, and the ambiance is 90's hole in the wall. Nothing special about the food, so it's not worth the price. This place has been since I can remember. It hasn't changed one bit. Which is good, brings back good memories. I always call in my order to just pick up and go. Today I did the same, ordered my usual. Order of enchiladas + one sope. Never disappoints. On the way back to the Bay Area from Los Angeles, route 101 freeway, we randomly stopped off in the City of Greenfield. A city that looks a decade behind in renovations. We consider it a stroke of luck that we stopped at the unassuming "La Fagota" which appears very average looking but is anything but. There is a strong Mexican community in Greenfield, and the family behind this restaurant in particular brings excitement and integrity to their entrees. "Shrimp de la Casa" in a two-chili sauce, is a two-alarm firestarter -- among the most exceptional and scorchingly tasty shrimp I've had in over a year. I like shrimp with monster bites, too, and they were the right size. I also had tastes of burritos, taquitos, rice and beans, and it's all Mexican fiesta good. I gave them a star because I can't give them anything less. So i came here for lunch ordered the two chile rellenos $11.95 I don't care about price when I go out to eat. As soon as i get my food I notice that my Chile Rellenos are sunk in sour cream. Ok cool something new. But when i take my first bite it was nothing but egg. Ok maybe when I dig into the center. Tacos were pretty good, they used to make them better, the tortillas are freshly made with a smear of eedried beans, choice of meat and topped off wwith some picadillo. Quesadilla mexicana and sope were just as I remember them being as delicious. The quesadilla mexicana is a deep fried hand made corn tortilla with beans and cheese filling topped with sour cream and guac. Sope is authentic not your traditional, its fried to a bowl looking sope filled with beans, choice of meat, cabbage, pico de gallo, sour cream and queso seco. When gou order to go they give you a small bag of chips--- they have been better. Now on to the flan, this flan isnt like most, I have tried to recreate it but never comes close, they have a secret ingredient to it. We weren't sure where to eat for dinner, so we tried using the POI (points of interest) function on our GPS. There's a La Fogata in Watsonville, so we weren't sure if it was a chain or something. (It wasn't.) What we did find was that it was authentic food of the Michoacan state of Mexico. I ordered a chile relleno--you can order one or two chiles--and it came out in a white cream sauce instead of a red sauce. Different, but good. It came with rice, beans, and tortillas. My boyfriend ordered some trio dish in which he received a taco, a sope, and a tostada. He liked his dish fine. His mother ordered only a sope since she wasn't feeling that hungry. She liked her dish as well. Service was OK. Slower than some places, even though it wasn't that busy. It's a hole in the wall, so it's got a homey, comfortable atmosphere to it.
