    Churro with Dipping Sauce

Everything was so delicious and the service was super good!! It's easy to forget this place exists since it's inside the National Hispanic Cultural Center, but even if you aren't visiting the museum, it's a super cute spot for a meal. The wings were phenomenal honestly. Very saucy and crispy but under the skin it's still juicy and tender. The desserts were also delicious! Churros were crispy and the sauce was slightly bitter and not too sweet. The strawberries were fresh and paired very nicely. Will def be back!

Lunch here was fabulous, the food and service and ambience excellent. Interesting choices for vegetarians, plates are artistically presented and delicious.

    Beautiful decoration!

If you're looking for the finest attention, the greatest eye for detail, the best ambiance, beautiful decor, and amazing - let me say it again - amazing food in Albuquerque, New Mexico - La Fonda del Bosque has all you need and much, much more. To be truly honest, I didn't know anything about La Fonda del Bosque. I'm currently in the city working on a film project and was looking for Hispanic actors at the National Hispanic Cultural Center right next door. Since I was hungry and it was way pass lunch time, James, one of the directors of the Center recommended the best place in Albuquerque, in his opinion, and that was La Fonda Del Bosque. The fact that it was also located next door didn't hurt at all. I walked in without any expectations. I was hungry, far from home, working, and just needed something quick to keep on my way. All that changed the moment I stepped through their doors. The art on the walls invites you to study it, the old Adobe beams on the hallway, to take a pictures, and the ambiance inside to sit down, relax, and forget about all your problems. So I did. I sat down and for the next hour and a half, although alone, I proceeded to take my sweet time, savor every bite, and enjoy some of the finest cuisine Albuquerque has to offer. I talked to JJ, the manager, who told me about the fact that they've been at that location for a while, although under different ownership. It is obvious that they've been providing Albuquerque with great food for a while since, as Aristotle once said, "Excellence is not a act, but a habit." Additionally, and this is for my fellow Yelpies, when I checked in on the app., to my surprise, there's $14.99 coupon on a 3 course business meal. You can't beat that! Needless to say, I left extremely satisfied. Their service stands above the rest, their staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely helpful. Not only will I be back again to La Fonda Del Bosque, but I'll make sure to stop by every time I'm in Albuquerque. You should do the same. Trust me - you won't be disappointed!

Oddly, I found myself at La Fonda Del Bosque two days in a row, and I'm glad I did! On the first day, I was there with a club I belong to. We were seated on the patio and it was a beautiful Albuquerque day! On my end of the table, at least, we all loved our food! I ordered the Wild Mushroom Chile Rellenos and they were yum! You can read the details in the menu that I included in my photos. Not your typical chile relleno, but I love the uniqueness of it. I really like mushrooms, but if you don't, I'd recommend you try something else. The salad was good and I always enjoy side dishes of corn. In this case the corn also had red pepper, which made it appealing to the eye. In fact, the over all presentation was very appealing. The two rellenos were stacked against each other. It was a little hard to cut into it at first, and one rolled onto the table. I invoked the "Five Second Rule" and ate on. I wasn't going to let it go to waste. The only thing I would change a bit was the vinaigrette dressing. For my taste, it was a little spicier and thicker than I prefer. Was it heavy on dijon and light on oil/vinegar? I actually don't know, but the Asian dressing across the table looked like it would have been more to my liking. Also, my friend, who is very particular about her Ranch dressing thought that her's was excellent. All in all, a really lovely and delicious lunch. So, the next day was the Grand Opening of this restaurant. On a fluke, I was invited. I'm not sure exactly how long they have been in business, but I noticed while looking over previous reviews that many wouldn't be applicable to the current business. Also, in full disclosure, this evening's event was open to the public (me) and the generous samplings of food at the buffet were free. I got to try many of the things on the menu and I have a new place I'm eager to introduce to my friends. I tried the Duck Quesadilla and I wasn't expecting to like it. After all, it had duck in it, for heaven's sake. In all honestly, I doubt I'd order it again, but it wasn't because of the taste. It was because of the duck. If you like duck, I think you'll like it. It had a slight sweet taste to it. Probably from the bbq sauce? And, to my surprise, I did eat the whole thing. I served some rice from a dish, that also had chicken. Actually, the chicken was gone, but my friend told me how tasty her rice was so I served some when I went for seconds. She was right! I don't normally have much to say about rice, but it truly was delicate and delicious. I thought it might have had a bit of saffron in it, but I don't see that in the description on the menu...and saffron isn't the kind of thing you'd forget to mention. So I'm guessing this dish was the Belizan Chicken...if so, it was coconut rice. I'll find out next time I go. There are many things on the inspired menu I look forward to trying. But I will tell you that what I enjoyed the most tonight was my margarita! It quite possibly was the best I've ever had. For my taste, it was perfect! I don't like them too sweet. Nor do I like them too sour. As my friend said, it was a "Goldilocks" margarita...it was just right! Almost forgot to mention the homemade potato chips. Really liked those too! This restaurant is part of the National Hispanic Cultural Center and though I've been there many times, I've never noticed the restaurant before. As you walk in from the parking lot, it is on the left. The venue was lovely. Nice art on the walls. A peaceful patio. And every employee we came across was personable and efficient.

I had a very mixed experience here. My overall impression: a classy restaurant with a good, interesting take on chile rellenos, which I would have given a higher rating if not for the service. My waitress seemed very inexperienced and young (as did another waiter who came by), it took awhile for anyone to wait on me even for water, she didn't seem to really listen to my order and returned a few minutes later to ask what I wanted again. Then she returned after awhile to apologize that they had missed my order and she'd put it in then. She was polite and apologetic, but just not good at her job unfortunately. I heard another patron talking about getting someone else's meal (but thought it was delicious all the same)..it seemed to be a trend of mess-ups while I was there. She also told me the Yelp check-in offer they have was a mistake and invalid, so be aware of that. (And that if you get a Groupon, it has to be printed out.) On the Plus side, two other employees- one of which seemed to be the manager, were very attentive and apologetic later on. One noticed I was cold (the air was up very high) and turned it down for me. They told me my meal was on the house, which I really didn't expect or anything (I just planned to give a lower tip than normal). And most importantly for a restaurant, the chile relleno dish was very good quality, unique, and tasty. I liked the Thai miso salad dressing as well. It's a classy restaurant that just needs to refine their service. They could expand vegetarian options, but the one meal they have was solid.

It was really hard to not give La Fonda Del Bosque 5 stars! Since this was my first time here I decided to come back a second time and if they are consistent with this recent visit they will get the 5 big ones due them. I promise! We met some friends at the National Hispanic Cultural Center to view the their most recent exhibit "La Cholla"...I'll get to that in a separate review to follow this one. Of course I looked up La Fonda on Yelp and it looked promising. We walked in with our friends and there were not a lot of people there but by the time we left it had almost filled up. To begin with the place is gosh-darn beautiful. Well appointed, linen on the table, linen napkins with utensils placed perfectly, nice crystal water glasses, clear-crunchy ice (this is impressive, folks!) and the wait staff were well dressed and well versed on the (sorta) minimalist menu. We opted for Guacamole to start. Expecting the usual scoop of guac with 5 chips protruding out like upside down icebergs, we got instead a generous basket of very warm corn chips and a platter with bowls of guacamole, sweet salsa, pico de galo, and some other nice tomato relish. This was around $8 and we had leftovers from the four of us. The cream of chicken soup was flavorful, spicy, generous...My only complaint was the soup spoon was too small...picky-picky...but that's what Yelpers do...detail-detail! My friend ordered a green chile pork soup and his was loaded with carne. Ours had lots-o-pollo! The bread was excellent but when I asked about what kind it was (Whole wheat with bits of grain to make it chewy) I was told they normally served their own bread which was some kind of focacia flat bread. We left stuffed and I didn't even have room for dinner except I did have some salmon I had smoked on the grill with a little fruit and cheese to get me through the evening. Tab for the four of us including 20% gratuity came to around $46. We all had water but I did see they had a full bar so beer and wine should be no problem. I did wonder why they were only opened for lunch (I could be mistaken here) and only Tuesday-Saturday. I will most certainly return and hope to give them the 5 stars they probably deserve but I am a stickler on consistency. I think you will not be disappointed.

Went there for Sunday brunch, and very happy with the experience. The atmosphere was excellent, with a soft acoustic Spanish guitar player in the corner and a lunch appetizer buffet featuring a cerviche to die for. The food is very creatively designed, but still qualifies as comfort food. My Christmas-style relleno had goat cheese and a side of perfectly roasted potatoes and bell peppers that added a great touch to a NM classic. I agree with the reviewer who said this is some of the best New Mexican food in town.

I really almost passed out when we walked up and saw the price for brunch. Then we decided to do it anyway and It. Was. So. Worth. It!!! My favorite Sunday brunch place of late. Excellent service, atmosphere, chef, and buffet. (and I am NOT a buffet girl!)

This place is great. The first time I came I had the Green Chile Chicken Pasta. It was amazing. I'm not a huge fan of pasta but I would eat this every day. I went the other day with my family and had the same thing. I tried everyone else's dishes and they were delicious. The staff was incredibly kind. They even brought out a sample of the day's soup for my grandparents to make sure it wasn't too hot for them. The pricing is excellent too. Where I'm living at the moment you can't find food this good for such low prices. This will be my go to place every time I come back to Albuquerque.

We walked in and started reading the menu and chatting with the man at the counter. He helped us pick out *five* vegetarian pupusas. Pretty good start! We ordered the calabacitas and cheese, the green chile and cheese, the loroco and cheese, the spinach and cheese, and the bean. Then the guy was surprised we wanted to eat there - guess you only order at the counter for to-go. We also inquired about the aguas frescas, and upon being assured that they were not that sweet, ordered a tamarindo and a melon. We grabbed a small table under the TV playing cumbia and other Salvadoran music videos. There were several other folks in the place so we got to look at some of the other offerings, including huge bowls of menudo and possibly even huger tortas. Our pupusas came fairly quickly for pupusas (some places will advise you that they can take 15-20 minutes) and came with two sides: a bowl of a very thin but flavorful salsa, and a mound of red cabbage slaw that reminded me just a bit of a pickled situation. Two of us were able to eat the 5 together, although 4 would have probably been enough. But now we've tried them all. The green chile and cheese was my favorite; the calabacitas was also good. The bean would be better with cheese; I might try to eat it with a cheesy one in the future. Also, the aguas frescas were aMAzing. Definitely the best ones that I have had in Albuquerque, and possibly the best outside of Mexico. Just a delight! The only knock on this place is that they close at 6pm every day, so if you want them for dinner you'll have to get takeout the last hour they are open. They do have several breakfast-y options though, so maybe the next time we visit (and I definitely want to go back!) we'll make it a brunch thing.

The menu initially sounded creative, especially the waffles featuring pepitas, quinoa, and blue corn, which led me to assume that the same thoughtful use of ingredients would carry throughout the rest of the menu. The blue corn enchiladas were the clear highlight and were genuinely delicious. Unfortunately, the red sauce served alongside them tasted noticeably canned. I had hoped for a fresh, house-made sauce that would complement the quality of the enchiladas. The calabacitas were also barely seasoned and could have benefited from much more flavor. The eggs Benedict was disappointing. The addition of a sausage patty made it feel more like a typical American breakfast than the regional and authentic dish I had expected. Many of the available sides were also potato-based, mainly hash browns or French fries, which made the menu feel less varied and imaginative. The blue corn porridge was acceptable, and the generous amount of berries helped bring the dish together, but the porridge itself could have been much more flavorful. There is plenty of potential here, particularly if more attention were given to fresh sauces, seasoning, regional ingredients, and a wider variety of side dishes. The service was good, and the meal overall was fine, but based on my experience, it was not distinctive enough to justify making a special trip.

The room is pretty but overly warm and reeks of grease. And there were some additional cleanliness issues. I want to return for the food, but if the other issues aren't addressed it may be the last time. Tons of grease smoke hanging in the air (the kitchen needs more serious ventilation - I texted and warned a friend not to come, as she hates the smell of cooking grease in her hair) when we came in at the early end of lunch (the place filled up pretty well behind us - it's Tuesday). It's a nice enough room (loved the painting of Bolívar and the Venezuelan tchotchkes in the case by the door) with plenty of seating - grab and read a menu, order at the front - it prompts you for a tip (went on the heavier side even with the counter ordering because I want El Chamo Arabe to stay around) and the counterwoman (not the friendliest person, but not rude) delivers everything to your table when it's ready (which will be a minute - but you're not here for _fast_ food). The room is pleasantly decorated but overly warm and - well, there's that grease smell issue: it was bad enough that we had to change clothes after eating here. Okay, prices seem reasonable. But when the food comes, prices seem downright _good_ - these folks give you a LOT of food. We got a $5 dolmas appetizer to start (juicier than what one usually finds; quite good) which came with the grape leaf rolls sitting on a pretty tasty dressed salad. We sure didn't need it, though: our mains (a shwarma plate with gyro meat and an arepa picada with one of chicken and one of beef) were really large. Really large. And it's tasty food. Enormous salads with both $14 plates: dressed well with great, fresh romaine leaves cut just right for easy eating. I'd note with some surprise that both the shredded chicken and beef on the arepas were pretty tasty, but was surprised to find the chicken grabbed me more. There is habañero salsa (albeit in a greasy bottle) on the tables if you need piquancy (why not? we're in New Mexico), and that was great. I'm not sure that the plentiful quantity of the mustard/ketchup (or was it Russian dressing?)/mayo sauce drowning of the arepa picada salad was a good thing. It was pretty, but it got to be a bit much for my taste down toward the bottom of it all - I'd ask for it lighter next time. The lunchmeat turkey and American-type cheese slice and perfectly cooked round fried egg certainly added to the salad, and the arepas themselves were a delight. My wife liked the rice and gyro meat and salad of her shwarma plate. Here's the thing: in addition to the grease-in-the-air situation, there were some cleanliness issues. The table where we sat (it was dead when we arrived, except for some waiting DoorDash drivers) hadn't been properly wiped and there were some old rice grains on it. The bottles of habañero and other salsas on the table were grimy and needed to have been wiped. The tray on which the silverware was brought to our table was greasy - repositioning it on the table to make room for our food made me want to wash my hands. And there was a hair (not ours) in the salad under my dolmas: I didn't mention to my wife because she would have stopped eating and I also didn't bring it up with the counterperson since the small restaurant was at that time full of lunching customers who didn't need to be troubled by hearing about it. And I know mistakes happen and I was not interested in a refund or apology; things happen. But I hope El Chamo Arabe customarily pays more attention to keeping things sanitary - the food is good enough that I want to come back and see. Food - 5 Service - 3 Atmosphere - 2 (lose the grease, fix the temperature and it's a 4) Cleanliness: 2 Value - ?

I asked her for a reminder buzzer to pick up when ready, and the girl claimed she gave it to my daughter. She did not. I went back to ask for it. She had to place a call to someone in the kitchen, in a separate building for my order number to get the right number. We sat down in the communal dining area for all the other mini restaurants there and waited over 20 minutes. I had gone back to see where the take out was. Finally I saw her bring it through the door from another location outside the food court. The chicken shawarma bowl was in the tray, but instead of the beef shawarma was a chicken shawarma wrap and cold French Fries. I told her she brought me the wrong order and begrudgingly she took it back outside to where she had brought it and 20 minutes later I got it. The bowl was 1/2 yellow rice, 1/2 romaine lettuce with almost no dressing and 3 of the skinniest sliced tomatoes I have ever seen and some cooked beef, very sparingly scattered on only the rice side of the bowl with a drizzle of a nondescript white dressing. My daughter was mostly done with hers when I got mine. I also orders the fried plantain side. It was 4 pieces, equivalent of one small plantain on one side of the cardboard serving boat and some shredded mozzarella on the other side! Now that is a bizarre combination! With almost no meat on either of our shawarma bowls, it was such a huge disappointment. The girl kept rolling her eyes with her mistake and then giving me dirty looks from behind the counter. In the 35 minutes we were there, we were the only people who had placed an order. With the lack of service, and overpriced items, this place will go out of business soon at The Block, just like the overpriced Thai place in the same complex that only lasted around 2 months!
