Flan topped chocolate cake, chocolate cake roll, chocolate cupcake, Churros, Coconut Macaroons & Sugar Heart cookies
    Ben C.

I've Been coming here for years & it never disappoints. The chocolate cake roll is so rich & moist it's hard to beat. This was the first time I've seen the flan topped chocolate cake so we had to try that. The pink Sugar heart cookies are my daughter's favorite. I always like their hot churros & fresh flour tortillas. I always come here when I'm in SW Detroit

La Gloria Bakery is our go-to bakery in Southwest Detroit for churros served warm! There is an array of Mexican baked goods you may grab with tongs and put on your tray while you mosey around the store looking at all the beautiful edible colors and shapes. La Gloria is located on Bagley & The Fisher Freeway service drive.

Two words. CHOCOLATE CANNOLI. The yelp Detroit page posted their cannolis on their instragrm page and I HAD to grab them. The shop is really small but they have a wide variety of fresh baked goods. The prices were reasonable, and you can grab an amazing picture of the bridge to Canada.

If you are in Mexicantown it is worth a gander for the wide assortment of baked goods. However, everytime we order something it is lacking in taste and texture. They do have a refrigerated dessert section, so that might be worth a try.

I discovered this place while searching Yelp and I'm so glad we were able to stop in while we were visiting Detroit. The building is very easy to find, right in Mexicantown. When we walked in, we were told to take a tray and tongs and we could walk around to and pick out the items we wanted. A lot of the items were things ive never heard of/seen before, so I just tried a variety of items. We had a tray full of goodies and a bottle of water and everything only came to $11.50. You cannot beat these prices! I will definitely stop back in here the next time in Detroit. We want to try the tamales the next time we're in town! This place was so cute!!

    So many choices! All $1!

Come in and be overwhelmed by sweet Mexican delights! We purchased a glazed lemon turnover, a glazed cherry turnover, a caramel turnover dusted with sugar and lastly a warm churro. My wife had to eat half the churro before we got to the counter. They were all excellent and we enjoyed them for a couple days, still tasting fresh and delicious. But be ready to be tempted with last minute purchases. As we turned to corner to pay there were bundled bags a tamales! The prose is wonderful and are already planning our return! Ps this was our first time here.

Monroe Street that it's located off of is under heavy construction currently so it may be a bit treacherous navigating the sidewalk outside, but the pastry shop remains open and continued to enjoy heavy foot traffic during the hour I was inside. The staff members are friendly and recommended the baklava as their most popular pastry, so I ordered one dipped with chocolate and pistachio, along with an iced latte. They had about five small tables along the wall for you to sit and eat at, but the benches are wooden and not the most comfortable for use as a study spot. My coffee was nothing to write home about, but the baklava was flaky and very sweet, definitely one of the best I've tried. They had a huge variety of other pastries too, and if they all taste as good as they look, would be worth checking out too.

The carrot cake looked delightful but the slice of red velvet looked a little dull. When it was time to indulge we started with the red velvet slice and discovered it was a waste of calories if you're a red velvet fan - the cake was dry and the cream cheese icing was anticlimactic. On the other hand the carrot cake was amazing - super moist and got a 2 thumbs up. In addition I will say the staff was very friendly and patient especially with our loads of questions. I will go back but the red velvet will not be purchased again. Also I love the overall look and feel of this bakery but do wish it had more seating.

I ordered cookies, a scone and tea this morning. Please note that Thursday morning special is only until 11am or right before. I would not recommend as it was excessively salty. The spinach seemed to not be chopped and layered near the top. I wish I had stopped at the sweets. Best part whether special or not was the cookies. I don't know if they are baked daily or not, but they were kept in a plastic containers. The space is small, but dining at the Jolly Pumpkin tables is allowed. We probably would've skipped it if we'd realized how pricy they were. The cupcake was incredibly decadent and delicious (encased in a milk chocolate shell, inside were a layer of whipped cream and layer of chocolate ganache atop a moist and delicious cupcake). The custard in the eclair was overly rich and the dessert itself too chilled to be especially enjoyable. On a future visit, I'd split the decadent cupcake two ways and skip the eclair.
