In an AHA! moment I clicked on Alma's profile, and narrowed down her reviews to Providence & restaurants. This is my new life philosophy: WWAD. What Would Alma Do. And she didn't let me down. The food is served cafeteria style, TONS of choices, and the prices are amazing. He asked if I wanted a medium or large serving, I said medium and got a bucket's worth of food, rice & ribs, for $7. I had been going to a dominican place down the street for about a year and the food is the same, i love both places. This place is bigger, and has a nice dining area and a better ordering line since both get packed. Food is delicious and price is the same. The employees are nice and the food is always good, they have a variety of different Spanish food more like a buffet. The price is great and the natural juices are too. La Gran Parada is a place I've noticed often, since it's on the corner of Broad and Adelaide, a street on which friends live. Everytime I look in the large plate glass windows, there is a line. I swear! Today, I stopped and stood in line for 10 minutes and estimated I had 15-20 more minutes to wait. I thought this odd since it is cafeteria style and would seem to flow quickly. Mom and pop type place. Parking in the back. You make an order when you walk in. They have different foods ready, you choose from that. I'm not sure if it'll be easy to order if you don't know Spanish. Prices and names of food are not listed. If you decide to dine in, they bring the food to you. when i crave Spanish dishes, this is the place. Staff are always friendly. Be prepared to wait to order as this is a popular lunch, dinner spot. The food is fresh and delicious. This place can use more seating but other than that, i recommend La Grande Parada. read more

I don't understand all the stars on this I went to see what the big hype was. At first I thought it was a sit down restaurant where they come and serve you, well it's a bit of both. It's your standard Dominican cafeteria style restaurant. You stand in a very long line, order your, "cash only" and you don't know this until you get ready to pay, you pay, and someone brings all your food to the table. When I say alllllll your food, I mean, allllll your food, you get a lot of food with your order and I believe this is why this place gets so many stars. A lot of food does not mean good quality food and good service, but because we live in such a gluttonous country that we have low standards for our big bellies. (Anyways I have digressed.) By the time you have gone through the process of ordering your food, your food being piled on multiple plates, passed on to end of their line, being put on trays, them getting your drink, and you waiting, your food is cold. That was my experience when I went there to stay. Went there another time to get food to go in the evening, and there food was not steaming and looked and smelled reheated. I am Latina, a very good cook, and know when Latino food has been reheated! With that said I will not return. If you like this type of food, my suggestion "El Eden" on Chalkstone Avenue in Providence. Early hours their food is fresh off the stove. The line is long but worth the wait. Those who know Dominican food come here. Plain and simple. There are many Dominican restaurants on Broad St., but this place is the best. Friendly staff and quick service. But the real reason to go here is for the mofongo. Hands down the best in RI (maybe even New England). Get it with fried cheese, onions and salsa de ajo. You can't go wrong. TBH , I have eaten Dominican food before and this has to be one of my favorite restaurants in Rhode Island to eat authentic Dominican meals. I found that the service here was great! When I asked for more rice when I was finished with my meal they happily gave me another plate with little to no delay even when there was a line. The prices I find to be very nice because my family bought 20$ worth of food and it made all 4 of use fool to our stomachs. As for down sides , having to pay in cash seems like a hassle but at least they have an ATM for you to withdraw money. I also found that them having long lines at all times is a hassle but for the quality of food it's definitely worth it. read more

I almost forgot to write a review...oops! Anyways...Tried this place out solely on the reviews and was highly disappointed. I should have kept my expectations low. While this place is awesome inside, the food is mediocre! To my husband, the kids and I it was all sorta tasteless. The lines are crazy, but the staff are all nice. This place definitely trumps all others around because is very inviting and cute on the inside. Oh and yes the prices are great and portions are big!! Would I eat here again? Ehhh, not sure, but I know I would still rather eat here over the other Spanish spots around. Better yet, I could just make it all myself lol since my Spanish food is way better (per my family) maybe I should open my own restaurant ;) no but seriously, the food here is way over rated, but again the prices are great and it's cute, clean and pretty comfortable inside! This is a Dominican restaurant, which has buffet style serving. Food was okay. We liked their soup and rice, but the Ox tail was very salty. I will try it our couple of more time, especially because they have goat and mofongo on their menu. read more

I've been going to this restaurant for years with my husband and kids. They used to be so amazing but the last couple of times it's been nothing but aggravating service. For instance the lady who served us last time had the biggest attitude and we definitely let her know. And on top of that she charged us an extra plate which I calculated everything we had and we let her know. She acted like she was right. Needless to say after 20 minutes of arguing with her we asked for someone else due to no management being around. We got our money back after she realized she messed up. Nice people... so much traffic that food is always fresh of the stove...Please try the goat.... The price, taste and amounts of food are unbeatable... plus this place is sparkly clean and authentically decorated. This is true dominican food... The mondongo/tripe stew is great... although I'm not to keep on the empanadas/pastelitos....
