They rent Uhauls but aren't open on the weekend to pickup trailers. Their site says they are open, the regional director of uhaul says they are open but the sign on the door says they're closed on Saturday and Sunday. I'm not sure if the gods of rental trucks and trailers have different days designated as the weekend and if they do I sure wish they'd share this with the rest of western civilization. Uhaul has this deal that if the trailer you rented isn't ready as promised then they'll give you 50 dollars. Well, I contacted Steve Womack and he credited my credit card 50 dollars. Not really the same as 50 bucks in my wallet but at least he got halfway there. My rather long drawn out point is, don't call uhaul on a Saturday morning to pickup the same day to move your father-in-law who just fell and expect this place to be open. You'll only end up cursing out some poor guy trying to make a living at the uhaul call center (probably in Omaha) demanding a refund. Glad his favorite chair fit in my rig. read more

They were fast and did not replace any parts that were still good even though we both had estimated that other parts would probably need repair. Friendly. Honest. Reliable. They're for the customer. That's why they must have previous good reviews. The service engine soon light was flashing on my 2004 Pontiac Bonneville. They told me they were booked for the next 1-2 weeks but would at least be able to scan the code to give us an idea of what the issue was. We first said "no thank" as we sat in the car outside their shop for about 20 minutes calling several other places even some outside the town who were also booked. Mind you we were traveling from Washington to California overnight. We didn't want to wait even a day or two. Eventually, we had them scan the code and they saw the issue (spark plug #6 was burned off completely, too close to metal) and were able to replace it. They went from "sorry we're booked" to being able to help us out after all. read more

I have used La Grande Auto on several occasions. When I had a Ford I was there almost monthly. (Don't get me started on Fords) Anyway, I always felt like they were upfront and honest with me every time I had to take thatpiece of $&@! in. So if you haven't taken your car in for service here give them a try. (And don't drive s Fords) Here is another reason why I come to La Grande Auto. I took my wife's mini van to the dealership because the power sliding doors were not working on either side. They said the part to repair the problem would cost $650 each. I took it to La Grande Auto and they fixed both doors for $400 total. I was able to service two cars and fix the doors for less. Don't be a sucker!!! read more

On the third day of a six week trip I found my 1997 Ford Powerstroke 7.3 diesel had developed an oil leak. Not a HUGE leak but enough to cover the side of our trailer with lots of little oil spots. Ugh! I checked the oil and found I was two quarts low (out of 16 quarts!). We were in Rome, OR on our way from Carson City, NV to La Grande, OR for an RV Rally. There is NOTHING in Rome, OR . . . I added two quarts of oil, and crawled under the truck to see if I could locate the leak. Of course, all I located was oil dripping in my face . . . We left Rome the next morning and continued to La Grande, stopping to check the oil three times (in the pouring rain). Once in La Grande I started looking for a "reputable" repair facility. I picked "La Grande Auto Repair" out of many because they had good reviews. I called and talked to Joe, the owner, and explained we were from out-of-town and had this oil leak going on. He said they were pretty booked up (as are all repair facilities this time of year), but he would see if they could fit our truck in. His daughter Tawny, who does the scheduling, called me back a short while later and said they could diagnose my truck the next morning (it was already late afternoon by now). Cool! I was there early the next morning and in short order they had found the source of the leak. A high pressure fitting on the rear of the engine was the culprit. Joe told me if they had to take the turbo off to get to it, it would be at least a couple hours of labor charge. If they DIDN'T have to take the turbo off, it would be less. So, worst case scenario would be $5-600. Parts, of course, are never the biggest expense. Ok, well, we need it fixed so whatever it costs, we need to do it. Joe even drove me back to the RV park where we were staying. In what seemed like only a couple hours, I got a call from Tawny saying the truck was done and Joe was out test driving it. He would pick me up and drive back to the shop. I'm liking this because it wasn't going to be over night, and quite possibly less expensive than the "worst case scenario". $258! Holy cow, in the world of diesel repair this is almost 'free' - ha. Their receipt says "Quality Auto Repair At Reasonable Prices". This is exactly spot on! I almost want to move to La Grande just so I can bring my truck here for maintenance and / or repair! These people are friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. They know their 'stuff'. I would not hesitate to recommend them for any auto repairs. You will not be sorry (or more importantly, ripped off). read more

My husband's truck wouldn't start after he stopped for lunch with one of his co-workers. They were just about to head from La Grande back to Boise. Several repair shops said they were a month out, but this owner said he would stay late if needed to help my husband, although he might have to order a part that he didn't have in stock and there were no Toyota dealerships close. After explaining the problem, he thought it was probably the fuel pump and he gave a "trick" to try to start it. He was right on! My husband was able to get his co-worker and car back to Boise without incident. I pulled into La Grande Auto about 10 minutes before closing, and the owner, Joe?, looked to be on his way out the door. After explaining my plight, he kindly agreed to run a diagnostic check on my car. After checking it out, I got really lucky and he actually had the part needed to fix my 17-year old car.
