My wife and I were driving our 20-yr-old car to our Arizona vacation home. The car would "miss" badly when accelerating. We limped into our first scheduled stop-over, La Grande, OR, and immediately began calling auto shops. It was late in the day, and the first two shops we called couldn't work us into their schedule. We spent the night tossing and turning, wondering if we should turn around and try to make it back home, or hang around La Grande and see if we could get into a shop. The next morning, shortly before 8 am, I made one last attempt at contacting a repair shop. I called B&B Auto Repair. What a lucky decision that was! The owner of the shop asked us to bring in the car immediately, and said he'd see what he could do. Bottom line: he and his partner worked all day on our old clunker, and just as we were beginning to give up hope, they found and fixed the problem (Turned out to be something our local shop should have taken care of...) The guys at B&B are extremely knowledgeable, thorough, and persistent. Unwilling to give up when the first "quick fix" didn't work, they literally worked on our car all day long. (We found out later that they had "bumped" a couple of their regular customers to accommodate us. As owner Ben Bean told us, "We had to help - you're just kind of stuck here".) We couldn't have been happier with their work, and felt their bill was extremely fair considering the amount of effort expended, potential loss of other business, etc. We heartily recommend B&B Auto. In addition to auto repair, they also specialize in motorcycle repair. AND, if you are a Harley enthusiast traveling through eastern Oregon, be sure to check out their line of parts and accessories. And don't go anywhere else if you need repairs!

They rent Uhauls but aren't open on the weekend to pickup trailers. Their site says they are open,…read morethe regional director of uhaul says they are open but the sign on the door says they're closed on Saturday and Sunday. I'm not sure if the gods of rental trucks and trailers have different days designated as the weekend and if they do I sure wish they'd share this with the rest of western civilization. Uhaul has this deal that if the trailer you rented isn't ready as promised then they'll give you 50 dollars. Well, I contacted Steve Womack and he credited my credit card 50 dollars. Not really the same as 50 bucks in my wallet but at least he got halfway there. My rather long drawn out point is, don't call uhaul on a Saturday morning to pickup the same day to move your father-in-law who just fell and expect this place to be open. You'll only end up cursing out some poor guy trying to make a living at the uhaul call center (probably in Omaha) demanding a refund. Glad his favorite chair fit in my rig.

They told me they were booked for the next 1-2 weeks but would at least be able to scan the code to give us an idea of what the issue was. We first said "no thank" as we sat in the car outside their shop for about 20 minutes calling several other places even some outside the town who were also booked. Mind you we were traveling from Washington to California overnight. We didn't want to wait even a day or two. Eventually, we had them scan the code and they saw the issue (spark plug #6 was burned off completely, too close to metal) and were able to replace it. They went from "sorry we're booked" to being able to help us out after all.
