The staff did nothing. A person's phone went off and this woman with long hair, bangs. glasses and an RBF gets him for the phone not being silent. Such rudeness and hypocrisy on their part! If you're going to get on someone for making noise, how about the teenagers talking and playing on the PC?! The lady was one of the rudest librarians I've seen.

This library may seem to profile certain patrons who may choose to study, use computer in the lower…read morelevel. I have come to this library several times & may sit on the upper/first level. The lower level has the vending machines so I may choose that area to sit with a window view-street view so to speak & if need to take a short break to stretch, can easily treat self to the vending area. Not to focus too much on this, I came to the library to connect my setup, computer, hotspot for a project. I had to use the lavatory, however the upper/first floor one was occupied so I took the elevator to the basement level to attend to whatever. After I was refreshed, I decided instead of going back upstairs to study, work, I would set up shop on the lower level with a window view. I managed to get some things accomplished for close to an hour after setup & was fairly comfortable to the point I would watch TV listening through my bluetooth headphones. I decided to get something from the vending machines, snack, soft drink & was delayed a bit there because of others who were there prior line at the vending machine. After I got the snack/drink, I proceeded to head back to my station/table mind you with my headphones still on as was listening to the TV broadcast so not too far from where I was working. Some librarian or lady approached me saying something so I had to remove my headphones to figure out what she was trying to communicate. She said something about I should not leave my items unattended & because kids are down in this section they may bother my stuff or something. That was the furthest from my mind as I have worked in this area in the past like on Sunday nights & no one has ever raised any concern to me about that. I was confused about the librarian's concern because if kids were down there, they should be monitored & supervised by their parent(s) or guardian(s). There should be no reason for anyone to bother my stuff if the place is honest. After this rude exchange with me, I figured the librarian did not want me there especially in that section as maybe adults should NOT be in the children's section. So I decided to just leave the library entirely as I felt unwelcomed & considering this has never happened to me in the several times I have studied on either floor level. I would not recommend perhaps adults to study or setup anything on the lower level, children's section as this librarian may have had concern that the kids would be unruly, out of control & unsupervised as to tamper with someone else's items in that section. Other problems with this library since I am on a roll: Well!, the bathrooms only have 1 stall so the reason I went to the lower level was to use the lavatory. I now regret having to go to the lower floor but it was out of my control & could not wait for the upper/first level lavatory was free. I also regret now perhaps remaining on the lower level to study though I thought & have asked in the past if it was fine to set up & study on the basement area though kids seem to be running around down there. The noise never bothered me because I have my listening phones on. And today, when I was rudely approached, there was really no activities down there so I really did not understand why this librarian approached me unless it was some type of profiling situation and did not want someone like me to be there. I clearly disagree with the librarian's assessment that my items were unattended as I had just left my set up area & remained on the same level just to go to the vending area. It was not like I went back to the bathroom or went upstairs or went outside for a moment. I could still receive the BT audio signal from the TV program I was watching and listening to and thus did not abandon my items & I did not feel any concern that my items would be tampered with by anyone. I assumed people are trustworthy perhaps more so than this librarian who approached me. Perhaps dishonest patrons here? Fine, I will not come to this library again. There are better ones. Another problem: Cramped or no adequate parking. In summary: They say adults can study and set up shop in the lower level area that may be for children but yet they really do not want adults down there and will blame the adult if they have their computer setup down there so clearly they do not want an adult down there other than those attempting to supervise their offspring. Adults should stay in the upstairs sections. Sometimes some parents did let their progeny run around out of control down there jumping on some thing on the floor with a balloon image. So it could be a safety issue if they have no control of things running into something that is pretty much stationary. --running the risks of injury. so adults or those studying probably would be best going to the upper level to study and let the lower floor remain for youngsters activities and the librarians should do a better job to not mislead adults saying they can study safely down there.

I came down from Milwaukee to conduct some foundation research for my grant writing business and…read morethe staff were very friendly and helpful. They got me set up with a visitor ID so I could log in to a terminal however I would recommend bringing your own laptop and just logging in with their wifi. The terminals are only good for 1-2 hours and if you need to be there a full day it's better to just log in on your own laptop; you'll have the same access to everything as on the terminals. Put in a good 6 hours here and got a lot of good research done. The building itself is gorgeous and spacious and fronts a lively little park next to their walkable downtown area. It was a day well spent.

They also have an incredible selection for a smaller library as well. Pretty much everything I want to check out is there and if it isn't it will be there soon. The other nice thing is since Westchester is such a small community 9 times out of 10 you don't have to wait for the hot books. Actually to me it feels like what the old Oak Park library felt like before they remodeled it and turned into the taj mahal of all libraries. LOL!. I digress. If you haven't been check it. It's quaint, small and gets the job done.

There are a few community rooms for meetings, kids events and classes. I've taken ballroom dance thru the Park District in a nice spacious classroom on the upper level. Friendly, competent staff. Well-tended gardens and outdoor space for letting the kids run around a bit. Or they can hop over to the Whittier playground for a spell. We are lucky to have Dole in our neighborhood!

My mom's house has time and again proven to be an unworkable place due to loud TV watching, constant interruptions, and a slew of honey dos she lines up for me. When Maze was closed, I headed over here. It started out promising, I found a parking spot right in front and an empty table with a power strip next to it and got set up to work. I put on my headphones, not to listen to anything, but to help prevent distraction. And then it started. Like a storm rolling in. First with a few giggles, cascading into loud requests from a few kids, and quickly escalated into children running around, screaming laughing and shouting. One could have mistaken the place for a book-filled Gymboree. Full disclosure, children aren't my thing. While it would easy to blame them or attribute it to a parent or two letting their special snowflake run amok; this behavior was known and encouraged by staff. As I said, the library is small and it doesn't have a separate children's room. Maybe an interactive space is this small library's thing, but for the uninitiated, some level of disclosure would have been nice. Silly me for assuming that libraries = quiet spaces.

This library is on the south side of Archer Avenue between Karlov and Kedvale Avenues…read more Parking This library parking lot has two entrances : one immediately east of the building on Archer Avenue and the other from 51st Street in the rear of the building. You can usually find street parking around /near the library--but be aware of certain parking restrictions. Please note: there is a parking lot adjacent to the library parking lot. The lot that is on Karlov is for Supermercado La Gloria, a grocery store across the street--so please don't park there! The Building This is a very pleasant library. The only public entrance is from Archer Ave. You will enter into the lobby and to your left is the Community Room. At the end of the lobby, again to your left, you will find the restrooms (if you are looking for them :) . To the right is where the books, etc can be found. After passing the front desk, you will find Adult Computers and tables/chairs in the middle of the library. The Children's Library is to the right. It looked like a very nice area for the children. Adult book sections are to the left. Toward the back of the library is the section that I have always liked best about this library - - four cozy chairs for sitting and enjoying a book or the newspaper. Unfortunately, these chairs have long seen there better days. I know that Elizabeth, the Branch Librarian, would like to improve this area, but due to funding, she has not been able to do this. It would be really thoughtful and generous if a local (or even not so local but very generous :) business would be a sponsor and provide the funds for some new comfortable chairs for this area. People really enjoy this area of this library and I have no doubt would appreciate such generosity. Service I used to shop regularly in the Archer Heights area about ten years ago and would stop at this library to use the computer. I have always liked this library and found the service to be very good. I stopped in on 12/27/2018 and was glad to see Elizabeth, the Branch Manager and Lisa, the head clerk again. I needed some help with the computer and the Children,'s Librarian, Mary, was really great and helped me to figure out a way to get the work I needed to do get done. She was very patient and kind. There were two other clerks at the desk when I came in and they were very nice alao. Even the security guard looked like he was doing a fine job. I always enjoy stopping by this library when I am in the Archer Heights area.

It seems if you go on Fridays they have a big selection of museum passes in. Always free wi-fi and a pretty quiet work space. In my experience, if you request a book on hold here, you get it pretty quickly. Definitely quicker than that...lincoln park branch... There are some very helpful librarians there too.
