The food is fabulous at La Guajira. We usually go to have breakfast. I like the Basico,(2 eggs, Classico(3 eggs with cafe con leche included), and my husband likes the Perico without green peppers. We also order the fried cheese and the croquettas de Jamon de las casa which come with a green sauce. The service is courteous and quick. I highly recommend this restaurant. Wow! Just wow. I was extremely, but I mean extremely surprised how good my food was. I did not even check the reviews before visiting. I was picking up a kitten a few doors down and was starving. We stopped and grabbed two shakes (trigo) and Two vaca locas. It was sooo good! The shake I inhaled it! INHALED IT. it was so good I finished it in 5 mins. Normally I sip on it slowly and enjoy it with my meal. I loved it so much never stood a chance! 10/10 Then the vaca loca.. I ate it yesterday and I'm STILL TALKING ABOUT IT. #1 it's HUGE!! Everything is fresh and made to order. And you can't beat the prices. They are the reason i always cheat on my diet. Truly authentic. Now i am not of Hispanic origin but i am a foodie. I can't believe I've never reviewed this spot before. Been enjoying it for a few years now. It's literally a hole in the wall but pretty mighty. I love the way staff greet customers upon entering, it makes you feel right at home. The service is always attentive. The breakfast is delicious and cheap. The food here really taste like grandma's cooking. Try the fresh squeezed orange juice. Some of THE BEST I've ever had. They make their own in house ham croquettas but I found them to be too hammy so the regular ones are always great and fried fresh. Recently tried a mamey shake and pan con bistec for lunch. The mamey shake was Amazing!!! You can't go wrong with the pan con bistec. They also offer cantina. It's best if you speak Spanish when dining here but you will get by as the menu is in both English and Spanish. It's a little hole in the wall located in a crappy strip mall in Pembroke Pines. Hands down, the best pan con bistec. The service is good. The pastries are good. Fresh squeezed OJ for breakfast. Portions are large. They do cantina service. I don't think they stay open late so no late dinners and I think they may be closed on Sundays. Give them a try. read more

Truly authentic Cuban food. The food is cheap but oh so yummy. My dad and I went in and had 2 Pan con Tortillas, I had mine with French fries and he had the house potatoes. He loved it so much we returned for lunch and had the Oxtail w/ white rice. I decided to try out a Mamey shake and omg fell even more in love with this place. It's homey, and very family oriented. I started going to this restaurant several years ago. At that time, they seem to be very well-run. It was a very nice place with a staff of friendly young ladies, who spoke decent English, and did their best to make their customers happy. However, things seem to have changed drastically. The food prices have gone way up, but the quality of the food isn't nearly as good as before. The service is very slow . When I was there, they took two people ahead of me that had come after me. Not only that, but they overcharged me! It was something I had not realized until left. It was too late by then, because I was using a Lyft. I will never go there again! read more

Small location with a few booths and tables. Kind of "where everyone knows your name" place. Tv was playing the afternoon telenovela or soap opera and the girls were chatting. Menu is good and full of Cuban cuisine. Service was great. We had cortaditos, guava and cheese pastries, ham and cheese tostada and a chicken sandwich. It was all awesome. That bread, oh my!! I am REALLY digging this spot! So we moved to Pembroke Pines and I started going to this Puerto Rican place on my way to work, which is delicious (see previous reviews), but I was still craving my Cuban tostada. My loyalty will always lie with my roots I guess. I came to this place because there was an adorable little old man waving a sign on the street, otherwise you would never know where it is (hidden in a little plaza). Once you see it though, you'll never miss it again. It is BRIGHT and HOMEY in there! I've only ever gotten my breakfast to go, but the moment I walk in, the girls behind the counter are super amicable and sweet and try their best to make conversation amidst the people sitting or standing at the counter. I think they know me now since they have a tostada working before I start speaking. Their papa rellena and croquetas are REALLY good as well, and they do their best to make the cafe con leche to your taste, but I'm always having to add just a little more sugar. Asked me if I will be taking out or dining in. I wasn't in a rush so I dined in. Their booths are not comfortable next time I'll go for the chairs. Wow wowow! Absolutely deliciously satisfying! I'm not Latina/Hispanic, but I do speak Spanish and I enjoy Cuban culture. A friend suggested that I come, and I am always scared to go to Latin/Hispanic restaurants because I may seem like a clown to them! But wow! The staff was so welcoming and even wanted to speak Spanish to me to help me practice. I felt totally at home, with the sunny morning warming me up for the meal coming before me. Every dish comes with rice and beans as well as the entree you are ordering for. This is a breakfast/lunch place, and they have a small menu but make their dishes perfectly. Lovely homey and family-oriented atmosphere. The restaurant is hidden and tucked away in a plaza, just the way I like it! It does get busy but I wasn't bothered by it. I ordered the chicken (forgot the name!!) with rice and black beans. The juicy chicken was so good it easily peeled off the bones and right into my mixture of rice and beams. The meat, the rich flavors, rice and beans all melted into my mouth. They truly give you so much food, that if you came in for breakfast... you won't need lunch!! On a whim, a friend and I stopped here for breakfast. She ordered a ham and egg scramble (omelet?) with homefries, and it came with coffee. She said it was the best cup of coffee she's ever had - smooth, full bodied, and no bitterness - and her meal was very good. I had a chicken empanada and a guava and cheese one with a mango shake. The shreddedchicken was tender, moist, and not wet, so the empanada didn't get soggy. The guava and cheese empanada was just as delicious and the shake was outstanding! This spot is a hole in the wall with good food. I come here on Saturdays often to have breakfast. By far, the best breakfast item is the steak, fried eggs, bacon and potatoes with orange juice.
