Went here today based on a yelp recommendation and have to say we really enjoyed our dinner. The place is nice, the vegetarian food very good and the staff really friendly. The price is a little on the upper side, but it's definitely worth it. Would I go again? Definitely yes.

    Once upon a thyme drink

Recently I went back to the Hummuseria, and it was definitely not the same as before. The vegetables looked like they were not good, and they did not do the same beautiful presentation for the drink as the first time. It was just the drink without the thyme to crush, without the board, and in a different glass. Also, now they only give you one pita when you order hummus. It used to be two pitas. Also the workers did not seem very happy to be working, nor to serve us. At times we tried to call them over, and they just ignored us. I don't know what happened because I gave a wonderful review months ago, but it has definitely gone downhill. However, their partner restaurant (the falafeleria) is great! But still doesn't have the drinks the Hummuseria had. I no longer go to the Hummuseria :( (picture is from the first time).

This was surprisingly my favorite meal during my trip to Spain. After eating tapas for multiple days, I was looking for something fresh, light, with vegetables and beans. La Hummuseria checked all the boxes. We ordered the Mediterranean salad, the white beans, and a plate of hummus and cauliflower. The salad was fresh and vibrant, and included a delicious heirloom tomato. The beans were delicious and savory. We asked for the spicy sjag, which was perfectly spicy and added much needed heat. The hummus came with fluffy pita for dipping. Paired with a glass of wine, this meal was fantastic.

There are not too many vegetarian places in Madrid so I was happy to stumble upon la hummuseria! The waiter was friendly and spoke English to us, which is appreciated, but never expected. They have menus in English and Spanish. What we ordered: we got the hummus that was the very last on the list (with the tomatoes in it). It was very creamy and not super flavorful, but in a good way! The ingredients tasted very fresh! We also got a yummy salad which was much needed after all the heavy carb meals we were eating originally in Madrid. I will definitely be back sometime!

    Middle Eastern Market Salad

La Hummuseria is a cozy vegetarian restaurant billing "Middle Eastern Slow Food" under its name. After ordering, we were started with a "tapa" of crunchy pita chips (seasoned with za'atar and sumac) and tahini sauce, which came with our drinks. However, the unmissable item was, of course, the hummus, which was smooth and creamy and came with a choice of topping--my pick was the roasted cauliflower, paired with almonds, scallions, cilantro, two slices of red chili, along with lots of olive oil. The hummus was perfect for dipping with the white pita bread that came on the side (though the flatbread seemed a bit stale). Finally, the Shakshouka was a classic stew of poached eggs in tomato sauce, and it also came with a ramekin of tahini topped with red chili oil to help round out the flavors of the tomato. But my favorite dish of all was the Middle Eastern Market salad, which came with a ton of flavorful, freshly chopped vegetables including several different kinds of tomatoes, chopped carrots, cherry tomatoes, red onion, scallions, and cilantro, all topped off with pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds for a nice crunch.

THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING. cannot emphasize that more. tucked away in a corner north of Gran Via, La Hummuseria was a hidden gem with a simple menu, intimate seating, and wonderful service. A vegan/vegetarian place, they served authentic middle eastern slow cooked food. They opened at 1pm and we showed up around 130 and the place was packed. In fact, we were told there was only one table available between now and 3pm. We sat down and wanted to order everything off the menu obviously because it all sounded great. Our waiter was kind enough to provide suggestions and we went with shashuka, white bean stew, and classic hummus. The hummus was topped with shaved almonds and pine nuts and drizzled in olive oil. Made me think why we don't always eat hummus like this. The pita was warm and fluffy and tasted freshly cooked. Between the shashuka and the unassuming white bean stew, the stew definitely took the prize. The flavors were so delightful and the rice perfectly cooked, I kept reaching for more. The Shashuka was also great with a side of tahini sauce and came with its own pita but my favorite has to be the white bean stew. I would definitely come back and encourage others as well. I would say the only downside was the food took a minute to get to us but that's the idea of slow cooked food I suppose. We were tempted to get dessert but seemed a tad pricey compared to the quantity. All in all, VERY satisfied and full and would definitely return!

Roasted cauliflower and hummus with nuts. They were so delicious.

This place is awesome. Most of their menu selections are vegan. I never thought of enjoying roasted cauliflower. It's so delicious. You must try this place my vegan friends. Thank you La Hummuseria!

Very good hummus, would come for that alone. The courses were not my favorite, but that were perfectly edible. I love this location. Super vegetarian friendly and great staff!

Golden cauliflower, classic hummus, pita, and homemade iced tea

Delicious food and a new favorite restaurant! The food is really really good (can't stress this enough, I send this restaurant as a recommendation to everybody I meet in Madrid), the atmosphere is nice, and the wait staff are great - they speak fluent English and Spanish and let me practice my rudimentary Spanish with them with patience. Price wise it's also a good choice, I got enough food to feed two hungry people for less than €20 (including drinks). Did I mention the food is amazing?

Best meal in Madrid. Also the cheapest. I had the salad with garbanzos, tomatoes, red onions, carrots...you can taste every micronutrient. Fantastic. Then I had the hummus ambiguo...garbanzos, spices, and pickled green bean and a raw onion on the side...went well with super-fresh pita. Crowded, cheap and cheerful atmosphere. Locals anound. I will return!

A great, authentic place to get vegan food in Madrid. The ingredients are fresh, and recipes are authentic! The staff is kind abs service was excellent. Super cozy environment, great music and charming views. The khoresht Sabzi abs Hummus are a MUST.

They were totally full when we arrived, and seemed to not want to let us know that there would likely be tables available soon. We asked to do take-out, which they enthusiastically obliged; 3 minutes after we ordered, many tables freed up. Lol. We got a barbacoa pizza and a vegetable pizza (each €14). The pizza came out in about 10 minutes. Both were tasty, especially the vegetable pizza, which had wonderfully marinated vegetables (peppers, zucchini, mushrooms and onions). The barbacoa was nice too, having vegan bacon, corn, and BBQ sauce. Solid spot for vegan pizza and other casual foods but done creatively and with class. Recommended.

Pura Vida is definitely one of my favorite vegan spots in Madrid, and let me tell you why. Pura…read moreVida knows what they're doing when it comes to vegan food. Their menu is a great mix of classic Spanish eats (tortilla de patata, bocadillos) and crowd pleasers, like pizza and burgers. My favorites: -- Bocata de Calamares (8,50€) // This is a Spanish classic, and it's essentially a sandwich featuring calamari rings with a cream cheese-like spread on a baguette. Before you knock it, try it. It's literally so good, and the one at Pura Vida is easily the best vegan version I've had. -- Lágrimas de Heura (6,95€) // So, these are basically chick'n nuggets made with the most popular vegan meat substitute in Spain, Heura. They're perfectly sized little morsels, kind of like popcorn chicken size, and fried to an ideal crisp. The agave-mustard dip on the side is also incredible and balances out the richness. -- Pincho de Tortilla de Patata (3,50€) // If you haven't tried tortilla de patata in Spain, I'm not sure where you've been eating. It's a must. Out of all the vegan ones I've tried in Madrid, Pura Vida's is my favorite. -- Alemana Pizza (12,95€) // My friend was craving a pizza, so we went for the Alemana which is pretty simple with tomato sauce, cheese and vegan sausage. The sauce has a surprising depth of flavor and the cheese is good, too. I wouldn't hesitate to share a pizza again if I were in the mood for one. So, now that we've established that the food at Pura Vida is great, let's move on! Overall, I really like the vibe at Pura Vida because it's laidback but slightly above a true taberna, so it's a good spot if you want a solid dinner or just a bite and drink on the terraza. The only reason I docked a star is because the service can definitely lack. The servers often get overwhelmed or simply don't come by for like, literally, 30 minutes at a time some days. Price-wise, some dishes are a little higher than others but for the most part, it's reasonable. Pura Vida will continue to be one of our go-to places in Madrid, especially when we're craving some Spanish classics and a solid pour of vermut.

They probably prefer it that way because the quiet vibe appeared to be part of the ambiance they're seeking here. We just found it by chance on Google Maps as an alternative to the beef-heavy eateries in the neighborhood. We just felt a need to eat healthier. The menu was small and appetizing, and we treated ourselves to two 3,5€ glasses of Zafra Blanco, a crisp Spanish white wine that freshened our palates. We started our meal with a complimentary helping of a "creamy" beetroot dip accompanied by lightly crisped pita chips (Photo 7). Next came the 12€ Spinach and "Parmesan" Croquettes, six lightly fried, falafel-like spheres drizzled with cashew nut mayo (Photo 8). They provided the ideal bites. Jamie went for their signature 15€ Moroccan Bowl with corn couscous, beetroot falafel, sweet potato, spinach, cherries, pickled cucumber, tomato, and fresh dates drizzled with mint yogurt sauce (Photo 6). It was quite a cornucopia of flavors that meshed quite well together with the falafels the particular standout. I decided to go for the 8€ Brochette of "Chicken" with chunks of zucchini and onion and satay sauce over a bed of sweet potato noodles (Photo 9). I'm not sure what the "chicken" was, but the flavor and texture was surprisingly spot-on. At the same time, I'm glad I limited myself to one skewer because I wanted to save room for dessert and the 4€ bottle of sparkling Green Apple Cider (Photo 4). Jamie and I settled on the delightful 6,5€ Tiramisu Cake dusted with Cocoa and swirled with Toffee (Photo 10).
