Only a block away from the cacophony of the Gran Via, this vegan spot was barely noticeable from a low-key alley because Jamie W and I passed right by it before discovering its location. They probably prefer it that way because the quiet vibe appeared to be part of the ambiance they're seeking here. We just found it by chance on Google Maps as an alternative to the beef-heavy eateries in the neighborhood. We just felt a need to eat healthier. The menu was small and appetizing, and we treated ourselves to two 3,5€ glasses of Zafra Blanco, a crisp Spanish white wine that freshened our palates. We started our meal with a complimentary helping of a "creamy" beetroot dip accompanied by lightly crisped pita chips (Photo 7). Next came the 12€ Spinach and "Parmesan" Croquettes, six lightly fried, falafel-like spheres drizzled with cashew nut mayo (Photo 8). They provided the ideal bites. Jamie went for their signature 15€ Moroccan Bowl with corn couscous, beetroot falafel, sweet potato, spinach, cherries, pickled cucumber, tomato, and fresh dates drizzled with mint yogurt sauce (Photo 6). It was quite a cornucopia of flavors that meshed quite well together with the falafels the particular standout. I decided to go for the 8€ Brochette of "Chicken" with chunks of zucchini and onion and satay sauce over a bed of sweet potato noodles (Photo 9). I'm not sure what the "chicken" was, but the flavor and texture was surprisingly spot-on. At the same time, I'm glad I limited myself to one skewer because I wanted to save room for dessert and the 4€ bottle of sparkling Green Apple Cider (Photo 4). Jamie and I settled on the delightful 6,5€ Tiramisu Cake dusted with Cocoa and swirled with Toffee (Photo 10). We finished our meal with 2€ cups of Cortado with the right amount of warm, steamed milk (Photo 5). Came here for dinner (before prime time) to wrap up my first day in Madrid. Because of the redeye flight, my meal schedule was kinda screwy so I settled for a vegan spot to lighten things up. More importantly, a salad did the trick. I got the "vegan" burrata salad with tomatoes, bread, and some herbs. Nothing extraordinary, but did the job. Madrid seems to have quite a vegan food scene. My boyfriend were in the mood for something different after having tapas for 4 days straight, so we looked up what vegan spots were around. Vega was one of the highest rated that was nearby, so we headed there. We went on a Wednesday, and it was already full like 30 minutes after they opened. I am not vegan and neither is my boyfriend, but this was one of our favorite meals in Madrid. I would really recommend going for lunch- they have a set course for about 8-9 euro, which includes an appetizer, a main course, dessert, and wine/beer/drink. It was hand-written on the menu (in English and Spanish), and based on other reviews it seems like this menu changes every day. You will be full! Appetizer: Hummus- delicious. For the mains, I got to try the rice "meatballs" and a zucchini and leek quiche. The meatballs were delicious, but the quiche was incredible. Absolutely delicious food at a charming little place on a fairly quiet street. We showed up for dinner right when they opened to ensure we got a table. Very creative menu of Spanish (and other) dishes, many of which are vegan versions of traditional Spanish cuisine. They served a complimentary coconut squash soup that was delicious and a great way to start the meal. We ordered 3 dishes (2 appetizers and 1 main) to share, which was way more than enough for 2 of us. We got the Callos a la madrileña (€9.5), a vegan version of a traditional Spanish dish -- tomato-based with garbanzo beans with oyster mushrooms. We got some bread to soak up the liquid, which was the perfect way to eat this. Rich, flavourful, tangy, tomato-ey, with wonderful textures, not least of which because of the oyster mushrooms. Wonderful dish. The vegan Burrata (€9) was also wonderful -- it's originally a mozzarella dish with cream. I assume this vegan version was made with some kind of blended nut. It's served on black garlic aioli, tomato, almonds and truffle oil. Creamy, beautifully flavoured, and again, great with bread. Sublime stuff. The Arroz negro (black rice) (€13) was fantastic too -- nicely spiced, fairly salty, and interesting textures. It's served with "calamari" -- I guess some kind of mushroom -- which complements the rice well, along with artichokes, asparagus and some sort of creamy aioli. Yet another wonderful dish. The atmosphere is super casual and it's clearly a favorite with locals. I was pretty much the only Asian in there at the time and nobody looked like a tourist. The place is kind of small and when I left, there was actually a wait. The staff was pretty nice and most seemed to know some English. When I returned to Madrid a couple weeks later, I decided to go back for lunch. The odd thing was that I showed up when they were supposed to open and the guy at the front told me to come back in 10 minutes. Not sure if that's a European or Madrid thing where the hours are mere suggestions. LOL. But I didn't mind waiting a little bit. For 11.90€, I got a cup of salmorejo (like gazpacho), a Greek salad with faux feta, a quinoa and kale burger with garlic aioli and a desserty soup in a jar made with mango, pear and mint. Also came with a drink and bread. The salmorejo was excellent and the burger was delicious. The dessert was tasty. I loved the mixing of all those flavors. Oh. My. God. I was visiting Madrid and used happy cow to search for vegan restaurants. The dinner I shared with my non vegan friend was amazing. We both left satisfied and happy. My favorite was the burrata paired with the bread we ordered but honestly everything was amazing. By chance, we arrived right as they were opening for dinner and the restaurant was already packed. They inquired if we had a reservation (would do this next time) and we did not, but luckily they sat us anyway. We ordered 5 different items, wine and bread. Excellent vegan food - on par with the better vegan restaurants I've been to in San Francisco and New York City. For apertifs we had the smoked aubergine pate, oriental sauerkraut, and a smoked hummus. All were excellent. We also had the ajoblanco soup, if I recall correctly (I'm writing this review a couple weeks later), which was incredible as well. We then moved on to the rosemary focaccia, burrata with truffle oil (100% vegan!), and "tikka masala." The first two were amazing (the burrata was particularly impressive, as that's hard to do vegan); the "tikka masala" was tasty but had nothing to do with what Indians would consider tikka masala. I thought the bread was mediocre, though my mom really liked it for some reason. The ambiance was cute and kind of hipster, as was our busboy's mustache. They were full for dinner but we managed to sneak in for drinks before their dinner seating and slide into dinner somehow. Highly recommend making reservations. read more

The main dish was the star of the show (I ordered the same main dish both times because I was obsessed!) I got the black rice with "squid," artichokes, and "crema."
