La Isla Michoacana my favorite place to enjoy as I did in México, with the twist of Owner's Creations like Pecan Yogurt, Chamango like any other business, and the typical Ice cream pistachio, piñón not found in many places. So if you need to enjoy a family environment come and enjoy the Patio this Summer. Hopefully we'll be able to enjoy gatherings by then. Thank you La Isla Michoacana Oak Fotest

One of my favorite local spots ! Small place so easy to miss, but the quality makes it stand out. One of the best elotes, has a good spice to it. You can taste how authentic and fresh the ice cream is. Inside has a fun vibe, so many colors! Well priced too!

Went for the first time yesterday, this is definitely going down as a go-to spot for my family. Very clean. Everything tasted great!

Me and my bestfriend have been going here for a few months now, once a week. we've tried a lot of their stuff and we're actually getting more and more disappointed. The fresh water is our favorite and all of their popsicles and mango desserts are amazing. their service is great and theyre so nice. the only problem is the real food. the corn is awful. they don't layer it right and it's too cold. we tried the plate with the doritos and pico de gallo (pictured) and it was terrible. we asked what was on it and the girl couldn't tell us, we still tried it and the. our mexican friend told us that we were eating pork skin that was on it. we were both instantly disgusted and we didn't understand why the girl didn't tell us that. we didn't really want to eat anything on it anymore besides the 2 slices of avocado and the doritos. it was a mess. we both agreed it was the worst thing we ever ate. maybe if i was pregnant i would like it. the place is very clean and we do love the smoothies and desserts from there, but don't try the food. it's not worth it.

Authentic and Delicious!…read more I was in the area with my family, and we decided to stop in for a bite. We walked in late one Sunday afternoon and were seated promptly. Our waiter was a polite gentleman who was pleasant and affable. I ordered a mango margarita and my sister had a Paloma. The margarita appeared to have been dispensed from a pre-made container. It wasn't something that was freshly blended. It was decent but a little too sweet. I didn't finish it and ended up ordering a Coke later. My sister enjoyed her Paloma though. My mom had a ground beef taco and a chicken tinga taco. She didn't like the chicken but enjoyed the beef. My sister and I both had the rice and beans. For tacos, we ordered chicken tinga, Carne asada, and al pastor. The tacos were phenomenal. They were flavorful, tender, and authentic. The tacos are small, like street tacos, but it was more than enough. The rice and beans were also tasty. My sister didn't care for the rice, but I enjoyed it. We all agreed that we'd visit Maiz & Barrio again. The restaurant vibe was lively and comfortable. The restaurant decor is tasteful with vibrant colors and beautiful wall art. The restaurant is a decent size, so the tables aren't too close together. The bill was $116 for the three of us, which included a 22% tip.

None of the previous businesses were able to hit the mark, or last for any significant amount of time. Maiz & Barro have seemingly figured it out. There are so many Mexican restaurants in the south side ... both of the fast food variety and also the ones offering full service. However, most of the ones actually in Oak Forest don't offer table service, so it's nice to have this spot in the neighborhood. The food is a bit pricey, but the atmosphere is lively, and the service was great. We've been here a few times in the past and the food has always been good. We stopped in for lunch during this visit and we did not leave disappointed. The tacos are very good and the complementary salsa they serve is delicious. Not my favorite Mexican food in the area, but definitely good enough to warrant repeated visits.

The salsa has a lot of onions. The flavor is great! And the chips are made in house freshly fried. We also ordered bottled Coke (sugar not HFCS) and water. The place has a welcoming, casual atmosphere. There is choice of seating: booth, table, or bar side. It's clean and well attended. The wait staff was nice. The chef even came to clarify some things on my order (how I wanted my egg) and checked on me afterwards with future suggestions. I'll be back. I seated myself in a booth. Fresh made chips and salsa choices were brought to the table with napkins and utensils. Rhodes chips were just right. They were made from good tortillas, crisp fried in clean oil. I could have just had that for breakfast. I needed proteins, so I chose the Chilaquiles con Huevo in green salsa. I was told the red was not spicy but can be adjusted to my liking. My eggs (2) were over easy (well executed), served over cheesy corn fried tortilla strips with sour cream, tomatoes, refried beans, rice and guacamole. I make it through half the dish. The rest was taken home and eaten the next day. Just as tasty. I have more s dishes to try and a Summer month to do it.
