Came here a month ago after seeing their reviews on Yelp. My aunt and I were looking for authentic tacos. We go out to lunch once a month and we look for different cuisines each time. My taco standards are high because I lived in LA for 13 years. My aunt got the ground beef burrito dinner. She enjoyed it and had leftovers. I ordered two chicken and one steak taco. I loved the chicken tacos. I got mine with lettuce and tomato. And there were chips on the table that came with a saucy salsa. They also had Dr Pepper which is a major plus in my book. They would have been five stars in my eyes. But today, I came back craving tacos. I had been released from the hospital and all I wanted were these tacos. We looked up their hours on Yelp. It said they'd be open until 4. I called ahead to try to place a pickup order. I called for 15 minutes straight. No one picked up the phone. They also don't have an accurate menu anywhere listed online. All the Yelp menus are over 8 years old. Well we arrived before 4 and the door was locked. There were people inside eating and they just stared at us. It just left a bad taste in my mouth so I won't be coming back. You have hours and a phone for a reason. read more

While we sat down waiting for her, I must say she was highly organized answering the phone, taking orders, and assisting the customers who came in to pick up their orders without missing a beat. Everything was fresh and authentic. Guests are greeted with a basket of fresh fried tortilla chips, warm spicy salsa, and other cold sauces to stave away hunger pangs. But save room for a delicious meal. Mely's serves Caldo de Res everyday. This large bowl of tender beef soup is incredibly filling. It's of soft, stewed beef in a sweet corn and vegetable broth, accompanied by warm tortillas, Mexican rice, onions, cilantro, lime, and fried dry chilies, creating a flavour explosion. I also had to try the fish taco. Mely's let me customize my taco Baja style with shaved cabbage, onion, cilantro and lime. So good, every table was taken and the line for pick up was 9 deep. This place is ok for a quick lunch but nothing really stood out here as exceptional. Lunch time on a Saturday was pretty busy. The lady behind the register was a one-woman show but clearly a little overwhelmed. Nevertheless she was super nice. We dined in. I wasn't 100% sure if they served tables or if you ordered first because it was our first time. Like I mentioned, the one lady did everything (cashier, hostess, waitress, table cleaner etc) but as I approached the counter she let me know it was open seating. Food was good but everything was kind of cold. My mom had the steak torta and said it could of used a little more meat. Guac was good, fresh, but missing something so we added a little salt for more flavor. Burrito was good, huge, but lukewarm. We had the table right by the door and there tended to be a lot of flies circling our table. However, I was extremely disappointed with my food experience. I ordered beef tacos, rice, beans and Chorizo con Queso Fundido. Everything was bland. Simply put no seasoning - No Flavor. The tragedy - the Chorizo con Queso Fundido was a salt bomb! I took one bite and couldn't eat it. Can you say - colossal fail. Simply amazing. While looking for good authentic Mexican food in the Tinley Park on yelp (non tex mex), I came across this place. The reviews were high and the pictures looked right up my alley. The place is easy to pass by from the street. But totally worth checking it out. Bistec a la mexicana was cooked to tender perfection and spicy. The rice and beans were flavorful. First, I read the reviews, and the ratings were exceptionally high. I have tried to find a favorite Mexican restaurant in this area. I was hoping this would be the one. Sadly I was disappointed with my meal. I ordered the Koko Loko, and it was extremely salty, I'm not sure if it was the sauce that made it salty--I was unable to eat it. For some reason, I didn't taste or smell the authentic seasonings. I ordered a small side of rice and beans. I didn't eat it because it too was bland. However, this was my first time purchasing from this restaurant. I want to give it another chance, but I am not too thrilled to do so I think I will continue to search. And we were on our way to the Chinese place next door (which is VERY good) and she mentioned it again and was like "okay, I could go for a burrito. Let's do it!" The portion size is HUGE on everything. So if you're someone who likes to order lots of different things. Bring more people so you can share. The burrito suizo is big enough to feed 3 people. No lie. The torta was amazing. Only thing about that one is I wish they would wrap it in foil or something to hold it together. Whenever I get a torta they always wrap it so it doesn't fall apart. I am sad to be updating my review for my favorite Mexican food in the area. Unfortunately, quality of food & taste has gone down. I'm not sure if there has been a new cook or owner since my first review in 2017, but it shows in the food. My husband first noticed the difference after we ordered out & I told him he was crazy! Turns out I was the crazy one. We ordered a few more times when I started to finally agree with him. Horchata recipe is different also and that used to be my fave! Ordered Caldo De Pollo & husband ordered Burrito Suizo. The soup did not have any vegetables in it which it was really lacking. It did have two large pieces of chicken. I added vegetables to the soup once I got home , along with some Sorreno peppers, lime, and spices because it was lacking flavor. Husband was satisfied with the burrito. If you are okay with adding more to the Soup then I would say give it a try because they do give you a large portion but if you don't want to do any cooking then not for you. read more
