The cinnamon rolls belong in a "hall of fame" for cinnamon rolls. The cupcakes are exactly what a scrumptious cupcake should be. And the brownies.....a heavenly experience. I had a savory scone, it really wasn't to my taste however, that is subjective. My wife had a fruit tart which was excellent. However, what was very special and sadly exceedingly rare was this: I ordered a drip coffee, when I sat down it was warm and I could tell it had been sitting for some time. One of the young women there, Melani, came up to me and asked if the coffee was lukewarm warm, she apologized and told me was going to make me an Americano fresh! That is integrity that you can't fake this young woman whatever her path in life will be she will succeed, integrity is something you have or you don't it's doing the right thing just because it's the right thing even when no one is looking! What an absolute gem of a bakery! It is cozy, adorable, and the kind of place that instantly makes you want to order one of everything. The almond croissant was the undeniable star. This beauty had some serious heft to it, loaded with a luscious almond filling that was rich, nutty, and perfectly balanced in sweetness. The buttery, flaky layers shattered with every bite, while the soft center practically melted in my mouth. If you're only getting one pastry, make it this one! The chocolate croissant was equally impressive. It was generously packed with chocolate--exactly how a chocolate croissant should be. I came here 2x in one weekend. Being from Southern California, I have access to bakeries of all sorts but I was overly impressed by La Joie. I had the savory scone, a peanut butter cookie and almond croissant. They were all huge! But more than that they all individually tasted excellent. After having lunch at the Marketplace we wanted something sweet. We took the short walk down to the bakery. Once inside we were pleasantly surprised by all the different choices of desserts. When you step inside the bakery, it has a very cute ambiance. Very welcoming. We went to order and both girls who helped seemed to be unhappy with us being there, as if we were inconveniencing them for being there. The pastries were absolutely gorgeous. We got a few things including a funfetti cupcake, banana cream, and orange cream. As well as a couple of pastries. The strawberries and cream filled pastry was delicious, and the raspberry pastry was great. The funfetti cupcake had a very dense cake with a buttery flavor of frosting, kind of disappointed in. Today was our first visit. We went by after breakfast hoping for a little something sweet. We were greeted and helped by a friendly person behind the counter. There were samples of the chocolate cookie with sea salt and we shared a piece. It was delicious so we grabbed one to share later. We definitely wouldn't have tried it otherwise so I'd say the sample idea is a win. We also got the sugar covered donuts filled with fruit and cream. One of each flavor. They were ok but absolutely not worth the cost which is $7 each. I would be ok with paying that if it was heaven in a donut but neither of us felt that way. The employees were friendly and helpful, the place is very cute and people seemed to be enjoying themselves on a Sunday morning. We plan to go back at some point and try other items. read more

I've been buying dessert for years from Kate. Pros: The macarons and cheesecake are the best I have ever had! The space is beautiful and a nice place to meet with friends. The staff is always friendly. Cons: The prices are high, but you get what you pay for, so it's good as a treat every now and then. I've been looking for fresh cheese cake in the Redding area and found La Joie Bakery, and I'm so happy I did. My husband has been craving "real" cheese cake and he said this was the best he's ever had. I bought three pieces, triple chocolate, a peppermint stick? and a vanilla bean with fresh fruit. He had a bite of the chocolate, he loved it, I tried the mousse part (delicious) he ate part of the vanilla bean/fruit and said it was very good. We cut them in half and put them in the freezer for later. They're bigger size slices, and the box of three had a pretty good weight to it. I really, desperately, want there to be a good French bakery in Redding. La Joie isn't it, though maybe in the future, they'll find their feet. The baked goods are overpriced. A croissant here is $6, but is almost inedible because it's too salty. It's almost as if they used salted butter. I will say, however, that the lamination was well done, and they looked good. Texture was good, with a nice balance of crispness in the outer layer and chew on the inside. But the salt! For $8, I can get a dozen Costco croissants that are far better and deliver a better value. A croissant is such a basic item for a French bakery that I don't know how you succeed without one that just nails it. We also ordered a bûche de Noël aka a "Yule Log." It should have been a sign that the person taking an order did not know the French word for a product. The cake was very dry and cloyingly sweet. The dryness ruined it. It was like eating MDF. The whole thing was also far too sugary. It's hard to tell what the cause was. Oven too hot? Wrong pan? Wrong flour? Didn't measure by weight and used too much flour? Too much flour? Who knows! But the flavors flavors should still have been balanced instead of overwhelming you with a single overpowering note. If professionals should be tasting what they're making to ensure quality and consistency and it's hard to believe that anyone here is doing that. I really want this bakery to succeed, but I'm worried the do t have the right staffing. I'll try to check in the future--hopefully they'll pull it together. EDIT: The owner replied--that's great! I worked for ten years in commercial kitchens. I really enjoy food and am pretty knowledgeable. I rarely dine out because I'm a better cook than most restaurants in the area. I will also travel for food. You kind of have to if you're in Redding. The salt level in the croissants here was NOT a matter of taste. There was enough salt in them to cure a prosciutto. No one in the house found them edible. What makes Costco croissants better is that they are edible. they can't compete on quality with someone who knows what they're doing. I would 100% pay $6 for a locally made high quality bread or pastry. Business owners should be able to have a good lifestyle and pay living wages. They can't do that if locals don't pay what quality costs. I'll be back in a few weeks to try again. I will absolutely update my rating too. read more

Not sure of how they bake their goods or if they make gluten free items where they can't be cross contaminated or not but, I went early in the morning and had a gluten free vanilla cupcake since I can't have gluten due to celiacs disease and I'm not sure if I was accidentally given the wrong cupcake or if maybe there was some sort of cross contamination of some sort. I waited behind about 30 people in line at their grand opening. The employees worked fast and were so kind even though they were packed. They had so many delicious pastries and they kept bringing out more from the back. Everything I bought was SO DELICIOUS!!
