The work was quick (for two entire kitchen blocks' worth of knives, at that!), expertly done, and Haik himself was so kind and helpful when I asked about ongoing care of my knives before my inevitable next appointment. I had been putting off sharpening my knives for years, and I'm so glad that I won't get into that rut again knowing I have access to a local resource like this, right around the corner. Highly recommend Haik's work, and I'll definitely be back!

They are located in Altadena so I'm always happy to support an Altadena independent businesses. Johnny's is on Woodbury next to the Ace hardware store and there is parking in the back. I enjoyed my visit with Johnny. He invited me to come into the shop and watch him sharpen my knife. while he worked he told me about other knives he had there and he appears to have a very nice set up many rotating belts and a strong determination to turn out a good result.. he sharpened the knife twice because at first it didn't meet his standards. I would be happy to go back to Johnny. I only brought one knife but in the future, I can bring more. He charged $10 to sharpen an 8 inch carving knife..

This all became even more clear to me last night, while making dinner. I did something very inadvisable and, in doing so, cut my finger with my very big and sharp knife. Middle finger, at the knuckle. When I finally recovered from the shock enough to assess the damage, I was fascinated and thrilled to see that while the cut was a little deep, it was perhaps the cleanest cut I've ever had in my life. Almost disconcertingly so to be honest. and the cut itself doesn't hurt or sting at all! There wasn't even any blood on the blade, but I washed it off and continued using it to make dinner. All night, I kept saying, "I am so glad I got my knives sharpened by Pete at the Atwater Farmers Market. Can you imagine if the knife had been dull???"

Gary came out the next day, cleared the whole pipeline, and gave me advice for the next time. He only charged me way, way less than that $25,000.
