The work was quick (for two entire kitchen blocks' worth of knives, at that!), expertly done, and Haik himself was so kind and helpful when I asked about ongoing care of my knives before my inevitable next appointment. I had been putting off sharpening my knives for years, and I'm so glad that I won't get into that rut again knowing I have access to a local resource like this, right around the corner. I took the knife to Johnny who sharpened it better than new without batting an eye. I also brought in two very old vintage scissors inherited from my mom who brought them from her home country over 5 decades ago. These scissors were precious to me, as I inherited them when she passed away. They were among the few things I was able to recognize and dig out of the Eaton fire rubble that was once my home. I brought them to Johnny just to see if he could clean them so I could display them in our rebuild and he did not disappoint. Not only did he clean the large one, but he was able to separate the blades and sharpen them, too. Johnny asked for my mom's name so that he could think about her as he worked on the knives. It meant so much to me that he made that effort and connection. His passion for his work shines and I feel incredibly fortunate to have such an artist nearby.

This all became even more clear to me last night, while making dinner. I did something very inadvisable and, in doing so, cut my finger with my very big and sharp knife. Middle finger, at the knuckle. When I finally recovered from the shock enough to assess the damage, I was fascinated and thrilled to see that while the cut was a little deep, it was perhaps the cleanest cut I've ever had in my life. Almost disconcertingly so to be honest. and the cut itself doesn't hurt or sting at all! There wasn't even any blood on the blade, but I washed it off and continued using it to make dinner. I have needed my knives sharpened for awhile but have been putting it off during the stay at home orders. Luckily my daughter noticed Steven's sign for knife sharpening on her walk on Washington Blvd near Allen in Pasadena. She text the info to me and I was able to stop by and meet Steven. I went home and brought 5 Cutco knives which had dulled over the years. Steven did a great job in about 15 minutes, even repairing 2 damaged tips. It has been such an amazing difference to have knives that slice with ease...safer too! Steven is a personable young man who takes pride in his work and I would highly recommend his work. I was thrilled to find Steven and his incredible knife-sharpening skills! I live in Sierra Madre and he is frequently at Taylor's Market here, so I checked his IG, noted the next date he'd be there and went over on the day. I took a dozen knives of all sizes; it's been years since I had them properly sharpened, and they were too dull for me to sharpen myself with any success. A few hours later and I got a text saying they were ready. Literally every knife cuts anything like butter! I am so so happy with the result and can't recommend him enough. I've been looking for a legit knife sharpener for some time--someone who knows what they're doing, not just a hack at the local hardware store. A couple months ago LA Knife Sharpening popped up in my Instagram. After following for a while I decided to use them when they came closer to my part of town. I took in some run of the mill knives and they came back great (clean tomato cuts). There were much better knives he was working on so I'm confident in entrusting him with my better knives in the future. I use my chef's knives daily and having sharp knives is important to making cooking a good experience. The place where I used to have my chef's knives sharpened closed as a result of COVID, so I've been searching for someone to sharpen my knives. I thought I would try since it was close to my house, very disappointed. He seemed busy so maybe he was good, I was going to try him on one of my old knives, I just left all 3, a lady just before me left like 5 of them, he told me 15 mins, ok. I came back in like 10 mins he said he finished mine and the lady before me in like 12 mins. My old knives didn't seem anymore sharpened than they were before. Not worth it , get yourself a block and you would do better. The knife place in dtla in 100 times better. I'm so glad I didn't bring my good knives . Quality and value bad. All my knives required sharpening but I was too lazy to do anything about it. Then I chipped the tip of my favorite knife and I knew I had to do something. Luckily, there is Steven!!!!! I took several of our kitchen knives to Steve's stand at the Toluca Lake Farmer's Market. I dropped them off first thing in the morning and picked them up in less than an hour. All our knives are as sharp as brand new. His workspace is very clean and he is very courteous. His prices are more than reasonable for the quality of the sharpening he does. I had six of my knives sharpened by Steven. His service is fast. Price is only 10 each plus tip. To be honest, I was not impressed with his workmanship. My knife profile is messed up on one of my knife. The edges are jagged and his angles are not precise, after I did my measurements. I had them redone and properly polished. I personally would not recommend or bring high end knives to him. read more

I took my cherished Shun knives here (Pasadena location on Washington) yesterday for the first time. Other knife sharpeners just didn't know how to handle my knives.
