I waited too long to review so some of the details escape me. Such as the appetizer we shared: Confit Pork Shoulder Croquettes, with quince puree, pickled shittake, and celeriac remoulade. The entrees were more memorable. I had the Fillet Of Irish Beef. I hardly ever order filet mignon but I'm glad I did. It may well be the best I've ever had. With Café de Paris butter, shallot pureé, pepper sauce, rocket (arugula), and a side of french fries. The flavor of the meat itself was incredible and the three sauces complemented it perfectly. It was cooked to a perfect medium rare as ordered. French fries aren't normally something to get excited about but these were a gastronomic masterpiece; the insides soft and sweet, not starchy, the outsides browned and subtly crisp, and I don't know what they were fried in but these had so much flavor it must have been beef tallow or duck fat. I'd come here again just to have a platter of these amazing fries! The wife's Coq Au Vin Façon La Maison (chicken breast braised in red wine, smoked bacon, mushrooms, baby onions, roast carrot, pomme purée) was equally memorable. I've never considering ordering this, thinking it too simple or plain. Not this. The red wine sauce really elevated a simple braised chicken. And how do they make even a simple carrot taste so good? We each had a wine from the ample selection of by the glass offerings and shared a gingery dessert which we both enjoyed. The service was good and not rushed. Just don't be intimidated by the waiter, who announced when he brought the bill that tip was not included; it seems this could have been handled more subtly. read more

It was a blustery grey Dublin day -- one of our last in the city as we prepared to head to France for a month. What better place to celebrate than at a French bistro in Dublin? La Maison was a delight! It was rainy but we wanted to sit outside, and there's a covered outdoor area with lots of smaller 2- and 4-top tables, so we were seated there. It is on a side street in downtown Dublin, so not as busy as main streets but still lots of food traffic, which added to the lively ambience. It was cold outside, but we stayed warm under here. We had a lovely meal. We started with a bread basket and shared shrimp appetizer, which were both great. For the main course, I ordered the duck breast, which was prepared perfectly. My husband had the steak which was also cooked nicely. To drink, we had a couple of glasses of wine each; La Maison has a solid wine menu with lots of delicious French wines and a few Italian wines as well. 7 oul lads in high spirits, friends for 40 years, out for a pre-Christmas dinner. Very pleasant, very patient and very efficient server (female) looking after us made for a most pleasant evening even before the food was served. My first time here but not my last I hope. Given the French vibe in a very comfortable if noisy dining room, I opted for the French onion soup,followed by the Coq au Vin and finally fromage accompanied by a seriously strong Americano to finish. Not a single item out of place. Delicious all round. Service was very efficient also, perhaps too efficient, as a more decent pause between courses would have been welcome. However, time was not wasted as we were able to waddle to a comfortable hostelry afterwards for a post-prandial cordial before home and cocoa. Highly recommended. read more

Walked up to La Maison and they found us a great table. Service was top notch. We shared the whole black Sole and it truly was one of the best pieces of fish I have ever had. La Maison was just okay. We visited on Monday for the early bird menu which was €42 for 2 courses. We were the only We got the french onion soup, duck croquette, sea bream, and coq au vin. The french onion soup was standard, so pretty good. The croquette was not quite what I expected; it was much larger and also drier than I wanted. It was so-so. The sea bream and coq au vin were both pretty boring. The sea bream was too salty and the coq au vin was also kind of dry. We struggled to finish both dishes because they were so mediocre. It was just meh flavors all around. La Maison did not live up to the positive reviews. Service was fine. We were one of only two tables there so it was plenty attentive. Ambiance was nice. I guess French food just isn't for me. When I saw an amazing online deal for this place, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to give it a whirl. My friends had raved about the påté and the atmosphere, so naturally I was excited to try this place. I booked via email confirming I had a voucher, etc. 24hrs later, I had not had a response, so I called. The gentleman on the phone was absolutely wonderful. He sorted it all out for us and we were booked in for a Saturday night. When we arrived, I wasn't sure we had found the right place as the entrance was covered by a red curtain. We walked through and felt uncomfortable walking through other patrons enjoying their meal. We finally made our way into the main building and were greeted and seated. I do not like the atmosphere here. It's a small restaurant, quite crowded and very loud. There were six people sitting at a table near us who were clearly having a good time, but everyone else had to know about it. Halfway through our meal they decided to have a karaoke session. I went out with my husband to enjoy some good food and some good chats. I had neither. To start I decided to have the påté and my husband went for the ever French frogs legs. am generally a lover of påté so I was super excited for this!. I expected a lot more to be honest. Some of the påté was extremely dry and it was served with some general toasted bread. I guess it just didn't really feel French. My husband's dish looked great, but was very bland. The sauce the legs were cooked in was lovely, but the meat itself had little flavour. We clung on to the hope that our mains would live up to the fantastic reviews I had read. By this time I had run out of water (The joys of being the driver!) and I was never approached by any member of staff asking if I needed a refill, despite seeing multiple other tables being attended to. Our mains arrived and things were looking up. Being a huge fan of anything mushroom, I had to have the wild mushroom risotto, while husband had Moroccan chicken. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his, while I was left again disappointed. Bland. Flavourless. In fact, the rocket on top of my risotto was the best part. I was so bitterly disappointed, I did not even want to stay for dessert. We quickly asked for the cheque. Upon arrival, I was advised I could not use my voucher for a Saturday night despite being told otherwise on the phone. However, the host quickly sorted this out for me. All two stars of this review are actually based on how lovely this gentleman was throughout our brief evening. Maybe I ordered the wrong things? Maybe it was just a bad night. I don't know where to start but I've never been so disappointed with a restaurant in all my life. The only reason I would give this restaurant a one star is because our waited was very tentative and kind. I'll begin with saying that it's not my first time eating at this restaurant. It was actually my second. One year ago, myself and my mum managed to grab a table here after doing some Christmas shopping around town. We were blown away by how delicious the duck was and how the ambience and service were impeccable. However, It seems a lot has changed since then and when I flew home from New York last weekend I was so excited to bring my father (since myself and my mum talked continuously about how good it was all year). So I decided to make a reservation for 7pm on Sunday December 8th, 2019. Friday and Saturday were booked out. When we arrived to the restaurant there was literally only one table of four people in the dining area. We were immediately brought to our table (the same table myself and my mum had one year ago). The waiter came by, greeted us and gave us our menus. We waited a few mins for him to come back with the water, ordered and wine and had a look at the menu, We ordered a bottle of wine for the table and waited for the waiter to come to take our order. We waited a few mins a little longer than expected but it wasn't really such a long wait or nothing to write about. We ordered two apps (scallops and escargot) and three main courses (two ducks and the truffle risotto) After about 30 mins after taking our order we were getting anxious as it seemed like a long wait for just two apps. We asked the waiter would the wait be much longer and he seemed a little over whelmed and said he would check. In the mean time we noticed people going into the private room past the main dining area so assumed they had a party or large group etc. We had to ask the waiter twice about the apps as we were now waiting 45 mins, but eventually they came out. I asked the waiter would our main meal take as long (45 mins) as it was a lot to wait for just two apps. He apologized for the wait and said it wouldn't take long for our main meal. The scallops were nice, they had a lot of butter and seemed like they were cooked fast as they were a little too hot to eat right away and the escargot were super hot also but the parsley butter or whatever topping LA Maison use super dry and colder than the actual escargot so it seemed like the topping was added afterwards. We were a little disappointed in the apps but my dad loved his scallops as they were topped with lots of butter. When our mains arrived myself and my dad were so shocked by the duck. We had asked for them medium rare as duck should never be over cooked and always pink in the middle but what we got was two extremely over cooked cremated ducks (I wish I had pictures to show you but I did not take any on the night as I've never written a review before and it wasn't my intention on the night). I actually took a bite of my duck just to see if it was just cooked on the outside and not the inside, but it was fully cooked completely through. We called our waited and showed him the ducks. He was so apologetic and said he was so sorry for not checking the duck before it came out of the kitchen and said he would bring use two more ducks and wouldn't charge us for them. We said it wasn't a problem but at that stage of waiting 45 mins for our apps we just knew this was going to be a downhill spiral. Let's talk about my mums risotto. She received her risotto with plenty of truffles. Although it was eatable not like myself and my dads duck. The risotto seemed really gooey and a little tasteless even with all the lovely truffles on top. When myself and my dad's second duck came back out they were still over cooked, barely even pink in the middle and completely tasteless. Yet another disappointment and we couldn't even eat our meal and sent it back after just two bites. Let me also tell you that my dad is not a fussy eater and will basically eat anything but they weren't even eatable and kind of made us sick to our stomach. The waiter offered us desert and an after dinner drink on the house, but we were so upset and dishearten by the food that we declined. The waiter knew we weren't impressed and really disappointed about the experience so he didn't charge us for the bill. I can't tell you how disappointed I was as I was in Dublin only for the weekend. I would not recommend eating in this restaurant EVER on a Sunday. The main chef does not work on a Sunday the owner mentioned this to me over the phone when I called to let him know what happened. And yes I had to call them after the whole ordeal and nobody called us to apologize for a waste of time and energy going into town on a Sunday. Literally this was the WORST meal I've ever had in Dublin and it's such a shame as the first time we ate here was such a different experience. We will never go back! read more

At first we were slightly disappointed as the early bird menu (22/26 euro) was different than shown on the website, and none of the starters took our fancy. So we just opted for a main and dessert, and in hindsight I was glad I didn't go for three courses as I was in foodcoma afterwards, portions were massive! And we got a bread basket with a sort of pesto to start on the house to keep us happy. The duck cassoulet was just divine, full with big chunks of sausages and porkbelly, lots of beans and a rich tomato sauce. The mash on the side was so smooth and buttery I could almost drink it with a straw. Yum! My rhubarb nut crumble was light and not overly sweet. I was in food heaven. They served some complentary pieces of dark and white chocolate afterwards, which was a nice touch! The staff were effecient and we were in no way rushed. It takes about 30 minutes because of baking the pastry around the pot. Enough for 2. Make sure to check in to receive complimentary Prosecco. Save room for a dessert. The server will bring over a tray of beautiful sweets. If your not to hungry, don't worry. You will receive a cutting tray with both dark & white chocolate to cut to your liking. I booked a table for five on Saturday night at 8.30, I was really looking forward to a fun evening with friends, and terrific food. I have always enjoyed dining at La Maison. But an email confirmed my booking and said we would be required to vacate the table by 22.30, a two hour window! I do not enjoy being rushed, or feeling under pressure to return a table. This practice is very unreasonable. I have cancelled my booking. Update - Olivier emailed me to let me know that the table would be available for as long as we wanted it, but I have made other arrangements. La Maison is a nice intimate french restaurant.  The service is very good.  The food is awesome.  I went with a group of 5 which was a pretty big group for this place.  We had several appetizers.  The Pate' was pretty amazing, but it was all delicious.   The main courses were all presented in a unique way.  Portions were not large, but very filling.  Deserts all seemed to be local or made on site.  We tried several - no one was dissapointed. I rambled in here last night with a couple of other chef friends. It was just before they finished service, around 9. 45. Doing this is almost considered an affront to the kitchen staff, forcing them to put off going for a fag or having a drink and instead knock out 3 more covers. We made some hushed apologies to the front of house and sat down, sure we'd be the brunt of some standard kitchen abuse. Man, were we wrong. The staff laughed and got involved in a nice amount of piss taking, comparing industry stories, and plying us with booze. While we were having great craic out front the kitchen were breaking their arses and when it arrived, the food was very, very good. We shared pea risotto, a pate plate, scallops with carrot and ginger, a salad landaise, Poele de Mer, and Seared Cod. Each dish was light and well balanced with no overpowering flavors. The landaise and scallops stand out as particularly excellent and the pork rilette was seriously decadent and worth a trip in itself. There was quite a few other people in last night and the service was slick throughout. They even comped us a couple of creme brulees to munch on with our coffees. Perfectly done, with a double layer of burnt brown sugar on top making cracking into the deliciously creamy custard even more satisfying. The food at La Maison is of the highest order and there is an obvious amount of skill going on in the kitchen. Go in on a monday, shoot the shit, eat some great food, and smile knowing that you can go lower pints next door in Grogans or have a late one in the Globe when your done. Monday Monday.... read more

I got a living social deal for this place, so I thought I would treat one of my best friends who has never been here to a treat. My nose was put slightly out of joint by the fact I could only order off the a la carte menu and not avail of the three course meal, but then I saw the steak for two including chips and salad.... Well, as hungry as I was and really tempted to order a starter ( as I was about to eat my own hand) as we had a bit of a wait for this special dish, I'm glad that I saved space for this most amazing meal. Beautifully cooked rib eye steak layered over toast and covered in oven roasted tomatoes, a huge serving of chunky chips and a small side salad. My nose was put back in its place and my friend and I took a long walk home, entirely satisfied by great food ( including a carafe f house red and cafe liegoise ice cream and espresso). I only called on the previous Tuesday so I thought that was good. I wasn't sure if we would get good service because of the deal. I was completely blown away. The waiter was fantastic. He was french and he very politely endured us practicing our french with a good sense of humour. We had one of the best white wines I've ever had. I ordered the crab starter and it was so fresh it tasted like it just came out of Dublin bay! We shared the beef for two, which was very tasty. We ordered an extra side of Gratins and my only complaint would be that it was pretty small for the price. For desert I was interested in the souffle but I don't really like orange flavour and they changed it to strawberry for me no problem! It was very nice and accommodating. Most of the time, I don't have an loyalty after a online deal but I would come back to La Maison in a heartbeat for any type of special night out I want to be sure to enjoy! read more

One star for the waitressing. Waiters do actually speak French, they are welcoming and cute ;) One star for the food. Actually I am going to rate 2 stars for the food ! I had foie gras as a starter and it was unbelievable. It wasn't too raw or overcooked, it was melting on the tongue... A dream ! Had a voucher for this place knocking around that I meant to use for a while. Had booked for a previous weekend but having not read the literature hadn't known it was a Monday to Thursday deal (terms & conditions peeps, important stuff!!) So arrived with partner at 6 and offered a seat outside with heaters or the only table for 2 in sight. Heater or no heater, it was breezy outside so we decided on the inside table even though it was right beside said front door. Hadn't been here before so was unaware of upstairs seating area. So obviously was not impressed when the very next couple were immediately led up to it. A positive was the place being so busy for a Thursday night, great vibe, negative was the door almost constantly being ajar from said customers. Our waitress who very much seemed like the head of house, I felt was overly fussy and I personally very much felt like she wanted us in and out asap. As for the food, my Saint-Marcellin cheese starter was very generous and delicious accompanied by walnuts and greens. Our mains were less so. I felt both were little bland to be honest, certainly lacking the punch I was expecting in my duck breast with orange sauce and my partners monkfish and risotto. Filling to be sure with certain items quite delicious like my puréed parsnip and carrot and the monkfish itself but overall, not winners. Very nice place. We had the early bird, which is a pretty good deal considering the quality of the dishes. €22 for 2 courses, €26 for 3. The service was very good too. We got a bottle of red house wine that was very decent. I had the leek and poached egg. An odd dish I thought at first but it was delicious and with loads of capers ( I love capers). As a main I had the braised beef with mash. So tasty I had to give some to my husband so he could share the experience. As a dessert I chose the chocolate mousse from the dessert tray. It was served with vanilla ice cream and roasted almonds. I was pretty full at this stage but I still ate the whole thing. The place was quite busy. We went on a Tuesday night and the place was packed. They played a Marc Lavoine best of, which I was probably the only one to notice, and it reminded me home. Overall a good experience. Have been dining here on numerous occasions and have been left very happy and very satisfied each and every time Was here recently and sat in their new outdoor area (very European feel to it) - it was a cold enough night but you feel very warm in here - they even provide a blanket on every chair just in case! The food here is always great but I do miss the lobster they used to do... For this recent visit the highlight was definitely the mussels which was so fresh and so lovely we could just not get enough, the accompanying sauce was perfectly done - light, fresh and tasty. If you are looking for an AMAZING French restaurant in city centre - go to La Maison. Luckily I am a Foodie and a cinema fanatic. This week I we to the French Foodie Cinema Club for some "Chocolat". The 2 course menu was: Main: Duck Breast with chocolate Tagliatelle and chocolate sauce Desert: chocolate fondant with vanilla sauce The tastes were incredible, the duck was soft and nicely seasoned and the chocolate tagliatelle totally overwhelmed me, a smooth bitterness if cacao combined with rocket and other seasoning. The desert was the best I had since a long time! People loved it and not only because of the great quality of the food also because of the kindness of the staff. For french restaurants especially I hardly ever leave reviews as I have had the honor of eating at some of the best French Restaurants in France over the years. But I have to say given the service and the quality of the cuisine I would rate this as one of the best French restaurants I have ever eaten at. I ordered several small plates covering many of the basics that are very easy to disappoint. Steak Tartar, Escargot, Marrow, and Duck. I would put this place up against any French restaurant. OK, a few caveats first-- I went on Valentines and that's never a good night to judge a place. Secondly, it had a set menu on so it was a very limited choice. Firstly, the menu was pretty limited and there was only choice on the main course. Food was nice, although it did seem a little pre-prepared. The main courses were small but delicious and the desserts were really tasty and quite heavy (which suited the whole meal). Bill came to €114 including glass of wine, 2 glasses of champagne, bottle of water and 2 coffee; I thought it was a little rich not to include the coffee in the set menu price. On a grey Dublin day, when the rain is coming down in sheets, out of the gloom a flash of vibrant cheerful pale blue catches your eye. That flash is La Maison, a sleek new French bistro on Castle Market Street, the successor to the popular Maison de Gourmet. We tumbled into the restaurant at noon on a very wet Tuesday, dripping and bedraggled, and were instantly soothed by the calm, chic interior where belle époque posters bedeck the walls and strains of soft, ever so French music are there to be heard. Having been seated by a friendly, efficient waitress, we opted for the €18.50 two-course lunch menu. To sample the full spectrum of the delights on offer my companions decided on a starter and main course, while I went the route of a main course and dessert. A delicate tomato and mozzarella salad, complete with fresh basil and drizzled with light oil was a hit, proving that simplicity works, with quality ingredients speaking for themselves. The smooth pumpkin and smoked bacon soup accompanied by rustic slices of toast served on a wooden chopping board was hearty and delicious. Wild mushroom risotto, pan-seared John Dory and roast wood pigeon for mains continued the formula of simple, light and utterly mouth-watering food. Dessert was Café Liegeois, a sort of affogato meets milkshake - espresso melded with sweet vanilla ice cream. The only misfire came when my friend ordered the Tarte du jour, strawberry on this occasion. Sadly, this was clearly the tart of several previous jours as well and on whole it tasted distinctly of the inside of a fridge. I still remember when this was one of the nicest French bakeries, if not the only French bakery, in town. I used to get fresh croissants here and since they were pretty good I figured their restaurant food must be good as well. I decided to have lunch here and see if they were up to the standard some of the other French restaurants have set. The menu consists of mostly seafood dishes, so I had the Poele de la Mer- seafood skillet- which was a mix of fish, cockles and mussles with bread and which was delicious, and a dessert of fondant au chocolat, which was very rich but also very yummy.
