Dropped in with no reservation on a Saturday for brunch. It was almost empty so I got a table immediately. The service was so friendly and fast. It's not much of a vibe and sadly the food is just okay. Mg biggest issue is how much you could taste that the empanadas were fried in old oil. I'm a little annoyed that they explicitly added an alcohol charge and tax to my bottomless meal when I didn't order a drink but I expect this place is struggling financially. Can't say I recommend and I probably won't be back.

This one kind of pains me to have it be 3 stars. Here's the thing. We've just had better tapas other places. Also, we went for dinner, not Brunch, which people have said is amazing. Let's break this down: The good: All the food was nice. The Scallops main was good and the corn salsa was amazing. The Sangrias we ordered, the Tita and the Blanca were very good, the latter especially. We got a special soup and the seafood was nice and the soup had good flavor. Across the board the flavors were really good. The service was super friendly and absolutely lovely. The Meh: Honestly, the soup. But I think that's preference. We both just prefer heartier seafood soups. The Empanadas were fine, but my partner (for some reason she cant quite describe) did not like them. The chips with the guacamole felt store bought in bulk and not fresh. Food wise is was all just okay despite really good flavors. The funny: We were mistakenly given an order of the bacon wrapped dates that were clearly meant for another table. But we realized too late and couldn't find a server to flag them down. Honestly, I think they just misheard us. We didnt check if we were charged. Probably the most whelming dinner we've had since moving to Silver Spring. IT could've been what we ordered, but who knows.

The staff at La Malinche is super friendly, which is always a plus. For my visit, I had an easy, breezy margarita and happy hour nachos. The restaurant has a pretty generous happy hour special with food and beverages ranging from $5 to $15. I really enjoyed the nachos because they were made with queso blanco (I think). While my visit was very short, I'm looking forward to visiting again and trying out more dishes....and margaritas.

My friends and I went here yesterday for brunch and it was my first time at this restaurant. I tried 5 items off the menu. I loved the empanadas and pancakes the most. Sadly the chorizo omelette was too salty. It could have been the sausage but I couldn't finish it and felt a bit I'll afterwards. The staff were very attentive and we sat conveniently near the bar so they were always ready to refill our glasses. The decorations at this establishment are breathtaking. I absolutely love the artwork. The price point came out to about $52/pp for the three of us and that includes gratuity. That's a pretty great deal I'm my book. I want to try it this place again for dinner.

    Chorizos a la Parilla $10 !!

We had the chorizo and skewered chicken and frankly it was a rip off. $10 for two pieces of sausage. It wasn't even that great. The chicken was OK. But two skewers of chicken for that much?! This is not a real tapas restaurant. It's an insult. There are several main dishes that would've been great meals probably, but the tapas were mediocre, low effort small plates of over priced food. Insulting. With the flan, this meal should not have cost $40 edit: Came back to edit my review. The "suggested" tipping amounts on the receipt do not match the total on the bill. Either they cannot do math or it's a scam... Either way, RED FLAG.

    Tinta

Still just a good! Good portion sizes. Excellent flavors. The tinta is heavenly but if you like sweeter drinks go with the Cava. You won't be disappointed! Food is almost as authentic as it gets. The only tapa I didn't like was the croquetas de pollo. Taste more like a fish stick. Loved both empanadas but the chicken was the winner. Waitress was excellent!

I had the spinach salad, Pan a la Catalana y Platanos Fritos. Disappointed in the bread. I expected it too be crispy. The Fritos were fine but nothing spectacular. The spinach salad was spinach with a trail mix on top. Couldn't finish. Atmosphere was pretty odd. It was mostly empty. Artwork was interesting. I can't say that I would return although the servers seemed kind but very new at their job. I go the sense it was a family running the business that had no actual experience in running a restaurant. Disappointing.

For years, literally, we've tied to come here for dinner before a show at the Fillmore. Every other time we've ended up at the Panera. This time we finally made it. Wow!! It was quiet and we were promptly seated. Started with a Negro Modelo and their Smokey Paloma. It was delicious. We are the following: House guacamole and chips Beef and chicken empanadas The scallops with corn salsa Chicken tacos Patatas bravas Churros Look this was delicious. Every dish was perfectly seasoned. Clearly fresh. Our server gave all the recommendations and she was on the money. Here's the proof in the pudding. We got the churros. They were amazing. My not super dessert loving and definitely not churro loving husband said he would get them again.

Dining areas are in several room spaces, instead of 1 big cavernous hall. There is a bar room as well as a tavern in the basement. Outdoor lawn has plenty of tables and lush greenery, perfect for a good weather day picnic. Our group was in a bigger room and a few steps downstairs from the bar area. Waitstaff was professional and helpful. We first ordered drinks, then starters. We ordered entrées after drinks and starters arrived for good pacing. Several of us shared a Skyfall Cabernet Sauvignon. It was smooth and fruity. We shared pimento cheese dip with veggies and bread triangles, bread basket, burrata and spiced cauliflower. All were excellent, Star was the burrata, so creamy and had pesto with it. My entree was a prosciutto sandwich with fig spread. The sandwich was on ciabatta bread. It held the sweet fig spread, savory prosciutto and soft Brie . Very filling and yummy, and came with crisp fries. Everyone loved their food. Some had dessert and coffee afterwards which was also top notch.

Dear Restaurant Owner,…read more My husband and I had been looking forward to dining at your restaurant for quite some time and finally had the opportunity to visit on Tuesday, June 2, before attending a concert nearby at 8:00 PM. We arrived at approximately 6:45 PM, were seated promptly, and were greeted by our server, Anna. She was pleasant; however, the service we received throughout the evening was extremely disappointing. We ordered drinks to start. My husband ordered a beer, and I ordered a rosé prosecco. When my drink arrived, it was visibly flat. I tasted it anyway and found it to be both warm and lacking carbonation. When I brought this to Anna's attention, she responded, "I noticed it looked flat too; I'll get you another one." Frankly, this was concerning. If she noticed the drink was not of acceptable quality, it should never have been served to a customer in the first place. We then ordered the mussels appetizer, which was excellent and one of the highlights of our visit. Shortly afterward, I ordered the swordfish special, and my husband ordered the shrimp po' boy. Neither dish would typically require an unusually long preparation time. Unfortunately, what followed was nearly an hour of waiting with no communication. Anna never checked on the status of our meals, nor did she provide any updates. Meanwhile, we watched multiple tables who were seated after us receive their food and complete their meals. By 7:45 PM, with our concert approaching, my husband suggested that we ask for our meals to be packed to go. It quickly became apparent that our entrees had not even been prepared. When Anna finally returned, she told us it would be "another five minutes," indicating that our meals had not yet been cooked despite being ordered nearly an hour earlier. At that point, we had no choice but to take the food to go so that we would not miss our concert. As a result, we ended up eating cold food later that evening. What made the experience particularly disappointing was that we had genuinely been excited to visit your restaurant. We had heard good things and were looking forward to a memorable dinner before our evening out. Instead, we left feeling overlooked and wondering what we had done to warrant such poor service and lack of attention. To my surprise, my husband--who is incredibly kind and non-confrontational--still left Anna a 20% tip, despite the fact that the service did not merit it. I am writing not to seek anything in return, but simply to make you aware of our experience. The quality of the mussels showed us that your kitchen is capable of producing excellent food. Unfortunately, the service and lack of communication overshadowed what should have been a wonderful evening. Thank you for taking the time to read this feedback. I hope it helps prevent future guests from having a similar experience. t

They have some seriously good feng shui!! Finally, I got to try this place with a girlfriend on a weekday during their happy hour. I arrived first and was able to get the "best table" in the house for us as per our waitress and I would agree. You have a little alcove and good view of the entire restaurant. HH prices are really good, $9 cocktails and $8 bites. I got a spicy margarita, where they put some fresh jalapeños in it. My friend also got a margarita. We started off with date wrapped with bacon, and patatas bravas! The date wrapped bacon was soo good, the dates just melt in your mouth. One of the best I have had in a long while. Patatas bravas were also good. We wanted to get their stuffed spring rolls but they were out of that so we ended up with empanadas, one chicken and one beef. Both very tasty! The HH experience was lovely and with great company too! Lots of really good conversation, making a new friend, excellent service and very good food. I would definitely come back here anytime for HH or dinner! This place was great!

My friend was able to make a reservation while standing outside waiting for our table. Lo and behold, we were seated because of the reservation while my walk-in check-in was never updated. Food: Patatas Bravas - simple. This is a classic tapas dish. I think it could've used a touch more salt either on the potatoes or in the dolloped sauce. Fried Crab Risotto Balls - Mid. There was only a hint of crab within the risotto ball. I would go with the classic option to avoid upcharges for seafood. Gambas al Ajillo - Great dish. It was buttery, simple, and clean. After having a full meal with cocktails, appetizer, entree, dessert and coffee (about $70 per person), I concluded that Atxondo will be a definite future destination for Happy Hour and light bites, but that my full meal dining dollars will be spent elsewhere. The Patatas Bravas (Fingerling Potatoes) were outstanding, with their two tasty sauces and rich, crispy flavor and texture. The Hibiscus Margarita with its salt and tajín rim was good enough to warrant a second one... but the Sangria was lackluster due to the complete absence of cut-up fresh fruit in my glass. The "Crispy Duck Breast" is no longer served whole, but sliced on a bed of sauteed kale... and, sadly, seemed to be only a shadow of its former self. The Lamb Meatballs suffered from being mushy (a coarser grind would have made a world of difference in the texture) and lacked that meaty exuberance one treasures in any kind of meatball. My serving of Basque Cheesecake was almost comically tiny (at $9 per serving, perhaps not so funny after all). But my cup of Americano came out of the espresso machine strapping strong and piping hot, with a gorgeous head of natural crema from the oil of the coffee beans. So I will definitely return for a future Happy Hour to devour the outstanding Patatas Bravas and sip the good Margaritas, and to try the bargain Manchego Burger and other Happy Hour bites. For serious dining, Atxondo falls short of the mark... but for drinks and bar food, Atxondo turns out to be a real neighborhood gem. .

The mini chorizo, with the accompanying chips absorbing the chorizo liquid were awesome and our group also loved the cremini mushrooms.
