Ive seen this place for many years when coming to the area or jogging by and this place is always packed with people so had me curious just how good the place is! They have some seriously good feng shui!! Finally, I got to try this place with a girlfriend on a weekday during their happy hour. I arrived first and was able to get the "best table" in the house for us as per our waitress and I would agree. You have a little alcove and good view of the entire restaurant. HH prices are really good, $9 cocktails and $8 bites. I got a spicy margarita, where they put some fresh jalapeños in it. My friend also got a margarita. We started off with date wrapped with bacon, and patatas bravas! The date wrapped bacon was soo good, the dates just melt in your mouth. One of the best I have had in a long while. Patatas bravas were also good. We wanted to get their stuffed spring rolls but they were out of that so we ended up with empanadas, one chicken and one beef. Both very tasty! The HH experience was lovely and with great company too! Lots of really good conversation, making a new friend, excellent service and very good food. Service - Noncommunicative. I went on a Friday night without a reservation. I had put my name down on a list to be seated as a walkin. throughout my time here, they did not take me off the waitlist. My friend was able to make a reservation while standing outside waiting for our table. Lo and behold, we were seated because of the reservation while my walk-in check-in was never updated. Food: Patatas Bravas - simple. This is a classic tapas dish. I think it could've used a touch more salt either on the potatoes or in the dolloped sauce. Fried Crab Risotto Balls - Mid. There was only a hint of crab within the risotto ball. I would go with the classic option to avoid upcharges for seafood. Gambas al Ajillo - Great dish. It was buttery, simple, and clean. The shrimp were poached perfectly and the toasted bread was the perfect addition to soak up the sauce. Tip: Recommend going for brunch with a reservation! On to my next adventure.... read more

I knew that l would come back at some point because l gave such glowing reviews before the last one a year ago. Went today unexpectedly and everything was one point. Me and my boyfriend had our first date night since having our baby here and it was amazing!! Everything tasted sooo good! We were seated immediately and I ordered the calamari as soon as I sat down. It was out in about 5 mins and matched with the sauce perfectly. There a lack of breading in the middle of the rings which isn't my favorite but it was really good still. I also ordered the Lomo de Buey which is steak, spinach, and potatoes. for $16?!?!? omg give me 3 of them! My boyfriend ordered the guac, chicken tacos and a quesadilla because they are true to the name, these are small plates! After coming back from spending two weeks in Spain, I was craving some authentic tapas. This place was a pretty good substitute. Everything we ate was delicious...we had the crab and risotto balls, patatas bravas, pan con tomate, and we had a steak dish (not pictured). Everything was delicious! I topped it off with a delicious glass of Tempranillo and my girlfriend had the churros dessert. The service was a little slow...but there was a huge birthday party happening there at the same time so I'll give them a pass this time around. Went for the unlimited brunch. a few hits but unfortunately lots of misses. Some options were just kind of bland. We did like the empanadas. Meatballs tasted like frozen ones from grocery store. The biggest issue is that I brought my whole family on a 50 min ride to try this place and the prices in the restaurant were about 25-30% higher than the prices on their web site. When I pointed this out, our server, who also said she was the manager, basically shrugged. Her response was that no other customers complained about the discrepancy so they hadn't done anything about it. She eventually acknowledged that someone was supposed to change the prices online 3 months ago but she guessed they didn't. Again, shrugged and didn't want to honor the advertised prices. We won't be back again after this bait and switch. Ambiance was nice and clean and modern. Too bad the integrity was lacking. read more

I really love this little hideout. Intimate space and the mood lighting and absolutely beautiful chandelier in the main dining room rounds out the soft vibes. For some reason, every time I dine here I only eat apps but I will branch out one day. Now the food is really good but the real star is the bartender who is somehow always there when I visit. She knows how to make a good drink!! I love the whiskey sours and my go-to apps are in the pictures. The parking is really limited so if you live nearby, it's conveniently on the walking trail. I can't believe I've never written a review for Riviera Tapas. This is a neighborhood gem- I've been quite a few times since moving nearby a few years ago. They have great drinks and delicious food. When we come, we typically get tapas and our favorites are the patatas bravas, and the bacon wrapped dates. Note that guacamole comes on nachos so there's no need to order that if you plan on getting nachos! Last time I did get a meal and the buey asado was amazing and a great value. I'm also a fan of the tuxedo bombe for dessert. Please note we've only been here "off hours" and though there's always people, it's never very crowded but there are plenty of folks eating. Just had my first happy hour at Riviera Tapa Bar and I enjoyed it. The fact that I was able to get parking right in the front was already a good sign. The staff was super attentive--the server took the time to explain the happy hour menu, which was great. I started with the house margarita; it was perfectly balanced (not too sweet/tart) and had the right kick. I ended up getting two! For food, the empanadas were fried perfectly crisp, though the beef filling was a touch on the dry side. But the calamari was awesome! Huge pieces, well-seasoned, and the texture was spot-on (I had never seen calamari pieces so big before). The overall ambience was fantastic, especially as the place got busy. My time at Riviera Tapas Bar tonight was a singularly enjoyable experience in the 1.5 years I've lived in the Hyattsville area. Patricia was attentive, informative, kind, professional, engaging, and a breath of fresh air. She spoke with me in detail about the philosophy she and her husband use in running Riviera, crafting the menu (food and beverage), embracing clientele, and motivating and training staff. It was unlike any conversation I've had with proprietors around the world over the last two decades. And then there was the food and drink - the stars of the show. I enjoyed a light yet filling, clean yet flavorful meal. The octopus and chorizo with fingerling potatoes was perfect. The flavors, textures, and presentation simply hit! And the crab cakes (all meat) with quinoa and brussels sprouts weren't something I knew I needed, but I indeed needed all of it. Although tapas, the portions were significant, yet the meals were light enough that I could fully enjoy the two. The array of drinks was varied, creative, and inspiring. The pomegranate martini, the BSB with a churro to boot, and the house margarita were individual adventures of flavor and creativity. Each delivered. And then there is the pricing. No complaints there. Reasonable and a steal of a deal. This is my new go-to restaurant, and that's before I've tried their unbelievable happy hour! Finally made it here. I've had this place bookmarked for awhile now. A friend and I met up on Tuesday. Parking is easy as there's a parking lot right there. Not sure if payment is required. I just parked and went right in. They had happy hour going on. Ends at 6 except on Wednesday when it goes until 8! I tried the paloma cocktail - it was ok. For food, I did the steak tacos. I marvel at a restaurant located in such an unassuming location as just off the railroad tracks can look straight out a designer magazine and serve delicious well prepared Tapas, Appetizers and Entees. Riviera has solid tapas and other Spanish-inspired dishes at reasonable prices. The fried calamari was surprisingly tender, although I am always a tad disappointed when it is only rings that are served, sans tentacles. The scallops were served atop a mound of potato puree - a svelt combination. The garlic shrimp and especially its sauce was indeed garlicky, though the bread to sop it up with was not great. All in all, a satisfying meal with only minor points to quibble with. I see this as a pleasant neighborhood place that is not fancy in its food or its prices, and that, fellow diners, is often just what one needs. read more

They moved across the street!! I first heard about them gearing up for it to happen towards the end of last year, and now it finally happened a month or so ago. The new space is nice, but I feel like it has its pros and cons. The sun shines nicely into this new space right across the street, and I like the furniture and decor better here. The old location was big and open, and this one feels smaller... although it's split into two rooms technically. There's the main room with plenty of tables, and then a second room to the right with a few more. I think if I combined the two rooms, it would be as big as the old space. But I do feel like the bar sacrificed some seating though... definitely seems shorter. And there is a patio apparently, but it's not open yet! There hasn't been a date given for when it will be, but I sure am waiting for it... it's about to be summer! All that to say, the food and drinks are still amazing, so that hasn't changed and I'm delighted about it. Brunch is as good as ever! Check out the new space if you haven't been already! read more

Came here for brunch on a Sunday with a group of friends and a reservation was made. We all ordered their bottomless brunch, including, but not limited to their mussels, potatoes bratva, hue os rancheros, omelettes, plantains, empanadas, etc... What's hot - Menu. Good variety. There's something for everyone- meats, veggies, and vegans. - Quality of food. Delicious. No complaints. All the food was nicely seasoned and not overly salty. Some people said their tomato toast was too soggy, though, so be aware of your preference. - Portions. Given the price you pay, it's pretty good value for money. For example, the mussels were a full bowl; each order of empanadas come with 2; the tomato toast comes with 4 per plate; etc.... - Price. For the bottomless brunch, it's $40 per person with alcoholic drinks. For just the bottomless brunch, it's $25 per person. Good value for money for the brunch. What's not - Acoustics. The music they play inside is much too loud! Even when we were one of the few tables with customers, we could barely hear each other during our conversations. This factor alone makes me not want to return, because if I can't even talk to the person I'm sitting next to or across from, there's no point dining in. - Service. Subpar. One of our friends made a reservation. When we arrived, one of their wait staff said there was no room for our group with a reservation. Not only was that contradictory to what we were originally told in that they would take our reservation, but it's also terrible customer service in saying there was no room, again; given that we made a reservation. Furthermore, the timing it takes for the food to come out is really hit or miss. For example, our group ordered 2 of the mussels. The first one arrived a quarter through our meal. The second order arrived towards the end. However, both orders were made at the same time in the beginning. Final Answer Given their terrible acoustics, I would not want to come back for dine-in.
