I've been here a couple of times and I don't really have anything to complain about. The pho is above average and the rice dishes are good. I come here because their food is really good. But every time I come here they have bad service. I called in a combination fried rice order. Arrived 30 mins later. I could see my order was ready when I approached the counter I paid for my order and an additional lime drink. They let me sit for 35 mins and didn't even make my drink. Decided to meet Hubby for a work day lunch and Yelp led me here. As I took note of the shopping center chock full of Asian shops and restaurants where La Me is located, as well as the primarily Vietnamese clientele, I knew we were in for a treat. The place was busy and I grabbed the last table available by the door. It's a small place and packed tightly with little to no decor. Service was brusque, but we got everything we needed. The gentleman at the register who checked us out was very friendly. I got the vermicelli soup with chicken, and Hubby got the cubed filet mignon rice dish (Bo Luc Lac). Both dishes were a lot of food-the leftovers will feed us for a while. I really enjoyed my soup. It was full of good stuff-noodles, white meat chicken, veggies-and had a tasty broth. There were plenty of sauces on the table to doctor things up and it came with fish sauce and a plate of basil, jalapeno, sprouts, etc. Hubby loved his dish. I tried the steak, it was incredibly tasty with a great char/grill to it. This place screams authentic, serves a huge and fast lunch, and has great prices. Man, I just love this place. Partly due to some fond memories associated with La Me. But most importantly because the food is outstanding and the decor is a cut above the norm for a Vietnamese place in this price range. It has a bit of a French cafe feel. Given the small interior space the menu is very extensive (actually, it is just flat out extensive). Their banh mi is my all-time, all-world favorite. It honestly isn't the most authentic but to my taste it is wonderful. I think it is the fresh "home made" bread, wonderful "mayonnaise", and just the right amount of jalapeno. Plus the meat is a bit better quality than many. I don't think it is just me as I have several times brought in a big bag of banh mi and my team loves me for it. All this for only $2.50. Absolutely love their iced coffee. Their pho is quite good. Love the spring rolls (very fresh with a good peanut sauce). Many good rice and noodle dishes. You'll find a mixed crowd, everything from teenage love-birds to the grandparents. Does a brisk takeout business. One caution - it is closed on Tuesdays. Nestled in the heart of the Walnut/Audelia shopping complex and right down the block from Richland College, La Me has been my lunchtime hangout for the past two days! Not nearly as busy as Bistro B across the parking lot, and boasts good prices to boot. In fact, I mainly give this place that shiny 4 because of the feel-good warmth of walking out with a nice, hot, crusty meal [this is the sandwiches we're talking about] for less than 3 bucks!! You might have to...errh...repeat things a few times, but alas - such is the way of good Asian dining everywhere! The grilled chicken banh mi was generously meaty, and you can't beat that french bread roll. I gotta try out their menu items too at some point! If you're wanting to be adventurous and try dessert here, ask the cashier what the different kinds of flans and jellies are in the fridge up front. read more

Great Vietnamese foods. Our family of 5 adults and 1 kid and 2 infants came here for lunch on Friday. The restaurant is packed but they still have spot for us. The food is relatively cheap, like $7 or $8 or $10 per dish. But never judge the quality over the price. I have to pay a lot more for other places. For example I order "Bún Ch Hà Ni" it is awesome. The meat ball is soft and not much fat on it. The salads is fresh, clean. Carrot and papaya sour is crunchy. The most beautiful part about this dish is the mixed fish sauce with sugar and chilli, I dont know how they make it but it become my favorite. I would give 5 stars for this dish and definitely come for more. Other dishes are also good too as my family member also enjoying. Servers are acting promote and friendly. However only down side that I asked to replace the high chair for my son due to the belt has buckle broken but he told me every chair in here like it, but when I go to the restrooms I saw another chair has belt in good conditions. I can forgive them because they may be busy at the time, but I hope they can improve over the long term to make a successful Vietnamese restaurant in customer service too. Excellent, and I mean EXCELLENT Vietnamese sandwiches, pho, and egg rolls. Every dish on their menu is great! One dish in particular (sorry, I'm not Vietnamese so don't know the name of it), a cubed steak with onions and veggies and rice is a specialty- too much food for one person (and I can eat alot) and each bite is a little piece of heaven. Their iced coffee is out of this world too. The owner speaks perfect English, his staff not so much, but they're friendly and make every effort to ensure that you leave satisfied. I admit I go here because the food is decent. So my review is just for the greasy egg rolls and the crappy service. I rarely comment on service because most Asian restaurants provide very little customer service and the food is always my top priority. But in this case I couldn't ignore it. Maybe it's a sign that I'm getting old or something. Before I called the waiter over I knew exactly what the outcome would be but I just had to do it. This was like the 2nd time we ordered the egg rolls and it came out so freaking greasy. It was so greasy that I could see the oil drip to the plate. And when I squeezed one of the egg rolls I could see oil dripping. I called him over and said the egg rolls are too greasy..take it back. He gave me a stare and after a few seconds he took it back to the kitchen. Moments later he came back and said that's how we cook our egg rolls. We cook them in a deep fryer. I said fine I don't want it. At that point there were no apologies or I will take this off your bill. Inside I was perfectly fine with that because I totally expected that. Here's funny part. When we got done I went to go pay and the waiter followed me because he thought I would complain about having to pay for the greasy egg rolls. When I got to the cashier she tallied my bill with the egg rolls and I just paid for it to see if the waiter would do anything about it. La Me is far from lame. In fact, it is one of my favorite restaurants in the Garland/Richardson area! This is a small, casual Vietnamese cafe with great authentic Vietnamese cuisine. What I love is that you can ROLL YOUR OWN SPRING ROLLS HERE. Yes, you roll and you eat! A dreary task to the lazy, but everything tastes better knowing you made it, right? And it's kind of fun. I recommend the Banh Hoi 5 Mon or the Mi Quang. Banh Hoi 5 Mon: Banh Hoi consists of bundles of rice vermicelli. Like squares of rice vermicelli! 5 mon means 5 types of food. You get egg rolls, pork patties, shrimp patties, grilled shrimp, and grilled pork (yup, that's 5!) with your banh hoi. They also give you several sheets of rice paper, a bowl of warm water, and a plate of fresh herbs. ***For the springroll noob: Take one sheet of rice paper (it's a flat small circle), dip it in the warm water while rotating the rice paper to ensure all parts are wet (to make it sticky! I know it's magical.) and place the rice paper on your plate. Now grab your chopsticks and put what you want on that rice paper!! (Banh hoi, meat, veggies) Don't put TOO much because you are going to roll that and don't worry you can roll more later. Also, PLEASE don't shy away from the mints and herbs! They add such a refreshing and aromatic taste to your springroll and crucial for that authentic Vietnamese taste. To roll, just do it like a burrito. If the ends of your roll is open, whatever you eating it anyway. Dip that sucker in the fish sauce and voila! You rolled your own spring roll. I am so proud of you. Mi Quang: literally means Quang style noodle. How to describe this... Tinted tellow rice noodles in a yummy broth. My favorite part is the crunchy pieces of toasted sesame rice crackers! You dip it in the broth and bite into it sooo good. Comes with shrimp, hardboiled egg, and pork. They also give you a plate of fresh herbs and please put those in. :) Other things I recommend: - Xoi Ga (sticky rice with chicken). If they're in stock, you'll find it to the left of the cashier. It's packaged, so you can eat it at home! - Banh Flan (Vietnamese flan). Who doesn't like egg custard with caramel sauce? You can find this in that little fridge by the cashier. - Milk Tea. This is good if you like your milk teas with a slight coffee flavor. Ask for less ice because they do put a lot :( Take note that they are closed on Wednesdays! This place is an frequent Vietnamese stop for me. They have all the staples: pho, rice plates, spring rolls, vermicelli, banh mi....and everything is pretty good. In my opinion, their rice plates are what they are known for. I usually get the one that has a bit of everything: grilled pork, fried shrimp patties, fried egg, shredded pork, and sausage. La Me has definitely wormed its way into my heart overnight. A friend of mine introduced me to this place and, if I knew how to get back there, I think I might frequent the location more often...hmm, Google maps... I ordered #121, which is a lemongrass chicken dish with purple onions, green onions, green bell peppers, and, of course, chicken! It comes with a fairly large side of rice and a small cup of chicken broth. Having been to Bistro B before, I was expecting the flavor of the dish to be much more toned down than it actually turned out to be, which was a VERY pleasant surprise. It had just the right mix of flavorful seasoning with a healthy amount of spice (relatively mild for those of us who like spicy foods). The family-owned and operated atmosphere was a nice touch to the evening. Sometimes, you just have to go somewhere that you feel at home, and smile at the crazy kid, talking above his "indoor voice" and having a ball with a pair of chopsticks. I went during weekday lunch and every table (inside and outside) was occupied. Small to-go stand near the door with wrapped rice and noodle packages to go. Looked tasty if you have just a couple mins to duck in/out. Ambience: sub-LaMadeleine bistro, small and neat. There's a history lesson in there about French colonialism, rubber tree plantations, and Michelin, but I'll leave it as an exercise for the reader. Clientele: Mostly Vietnamese folk, a table of anglos, and a table of goodlooking, obnoxious business dilrods. I'm guessing "account executives" with leased BMWs. You know the type. Food: I got the goi cuon (decent, worth the $3) and pho bo vien (worth the $5). The roll was decent, the actual bo meatballs were decent, and the broth was quite good, complex and savory. I don't know what made the difference but it was well done. I ate it barefoot (no condiments) and enjoyed it. Probably a good thing, because I didn't like the sriracha on the table; it was thinner and somewhat (sweeter? richer?) than the huyfong/rooster I am used to. According to my reading this may mean it's more authentic and less Americanized. But I prefer the rooster. Drink: Ordered hot tea (tra nong) and didn't get it. Since I did get a big glass of water I didn't notice until I had finished. The tea was not noted on the ticket and I was not charged for it. Staff: busy, effective other than forgetting my tea. I overtipped. wifi: "LA ME" SSID, open, works fine. I checked gmail and cnn; easy to connect and good throughput. bathroom: pleasant enough but only one. When the place is full you have to keep an eye on the door and be ready to claim it. I was facing away and missed my turn 3x. Value: Good. Lunch was $9 and worth it. The pleasant decor and wifi bump it from 3.5 to 4.25 in my book. Neighborhood sketch factor: The dying strip mall is ratty. On my way out there were some sketchy d00dz wandering the parking lot, but it turns out they were looking for their car (I hope). There's nothing better than seeing a Vietnamese restaurant filled with Vietnamese diners. That's really all you need to know. Since moving to Dallas, I've really been shocked at the lack of specifically Vietnamese cuisine to be found, of which I'm really a huge fan and regular patron. I've got four Thai places within a mile or two of where I live, but I had to venture to Richardson to find even a basic bowl of pho. But what a find it is. Just east of Richland College is a strip-mall center that is more-or-less a Saigon district. There are at least four different Vietnamese places across the parking lot from each other among various other small businesses, all anchored by a large Asian market. La Me is a nice, smallish, clean place, very busy at lunch with the aforementioned clientele, and with a fairly extensive menu. All the basics are covered; I went for the grilled pork and eggroll vermicelli with a couple of spring rolls on the side. Everything is just as good as the cuisine can get, and came in under $10 for plenty of food. They seem also to have a counter going with coffees and frozen drinks as well. A couple of tables are set up outside, usually for the smokers. Will have to venture out to try neighboring places next, but it would be difficult to get better food than this. read more

Let me start by saying I'm white and I've been getting the exact same thing at Vietnamese restaurants for 15 years, so I'm no expert on the subject. I got the Pho Ga (chicken Pho) and it was good. That being said, I've been to many other places that have a better broth. This was pretty bland and I had to do some doctoring to get it right. No cilantro either, which I'm a big fan of. It was good though. The egg rolls were incredible and if I go back, it will be because of those things! Very distinctive cover, almost like a batter of some sort. Not the best, but definitely edible. Didn't help that the credit card machine was down and they wrote my card number on a post it and said they would charge it tomorrow. Little scared about that. read more

As we walked in, server sat us down immediately and expected us to know what we want off the menu when we barely got a chance to look at it. Service here isn't all that great. We ordered spring rolls, with shrimp and pork, it was delicious, although the peanut sauce could be a better. I had Vietnamese iced coffee, which I expected to come in a french press, but it was already blended in a plastic to-go cup, not all that great. And for my main meal mi quang! The broth and noodle was pretty good until I saw a small fingernail sized dead COCKROACH in my meal! I was totally shocked and disgusted, as this has never happened to me before. I waved for the server and he came immediately and I told him about the little critter. Immediately the cashier came and asked what I wanted instead of it. Being shocked, I still attempted to eat another meal as I was hungry, but my appetite is already spoiled. My date said the server went to the kitchen and let one of the ladies, manager? Chef..? Look at the COCKROACH but she just brushed it off to the server. No management apology, no follow up on the meals, paid full price for our meals, the cashier wouldn't even look at us, horrible service. Safe to say, I won't be back to eat here again. read more

The eggs rolls served here, remind me of the ones my grandmother used to get from this Vietnamese located just outside of Noyant, France. Look it up. Pretty cool. Better yet, GO. I love their bun dau mam tom. Their fish sauce is so good. Their cooking is very authentic and the ingredients are always fresh. It helps that they're always busy so the food turnover rates are high. Their other menu items are also very good. Their com tam is one of the better ones here in the U.S and their com ga xoi mo is yummy as well.
