This motel is so cool! We were blessed to get the room on the end so we only had neighbors on one side (that we never heard a peep out of by the way). This motel is dripping with all the Route 66 throwback vibe but with thankfully some modern conveniences such as the microwave and refrigerator that we threw our leftover bbq goodies in to enjoy later. The bed was comfortable and there was a futon/couch to sit on. The rates were reasonable and the room was very clean. It was nice that the upgrades included a completely renovated bathroom with porcelain tub and ceramic tile and updated sink and flooring. The staff were very accomodating and laid back.

    Sunrise from La Mesa!

Yelpers are spot on here, once again. Immaculately clean and right on Route 66. Arguably the most comfortable bed on the entire cross country drive! Friendly personal service. 4 stars for all of the above - certainly not luxurious but priced accordingly! La Mesa is Definitely a throwback to a simpler time, in a good way. We are traveling in mid winter and it was extremely cold, so pack warm gear to sleep in as the heat is not reliable. Just a minor point. If you're looking for a clean and simple place to sleep and nothing more (and I do mean nothing) then La Mesa is a good choice!

Unfortunately, the lady that manages the place sent me a very hateful text message. At first I asked her if she knew who she was texting. I was so confused and no clue what she was talking about. I think the owners are amazing, clean , honest.. but the lady that manages it seems to be battling with drug addiction.

9 times out of 10 I will always pass these places when traveling but I went with my fellow yelpers and went with their recommendations. I was greeted with some cool neon and a smile from the guy that met me. It is a small place but I had high hopes. I was in 18 & that's right next to the office that was crazy big with a king bed. The bathroom was nice and clean. Reasons why I didn't give a 5 star - there wasn't any hot water this morning. Outside of that I actually enjoyed my stay

    Beautiful towel presentation.

Got the last room of the night on a holiday weekend. The room was immaculate upon entry. The room has its own air conditioning unit. It has a small refrigerator, microwave, and Keurig coffee maker with K-cups. The towels are folded in designs. The king sized bed is very comfortable. WiFi is free. Very friendly front desk. Large TV, large couch, and a chair. Rates were great!

Baby girl on the cute, vintage style beds.

They did warn when sending a reminder email about the reservation that the hotel is undergoing renovations and there might be some evidence of that while staying, we were concerned but stuck with the reservation. Besides the note on check in, I did not see any reno being done, but man does this location need it. It seems like it is 20 years outdated and worn out! The king room we staying in was tight except for the very old bathroom that was huge if not very in need of updates and fixes. We also thought the noise in the hotel was a bit more than anywhere else we stayed. We definitely heard a dog, motorcycles from the property outside we could see (private residence) and voices. If they are really doing a reno, this will all be fixed I am sure, but right now it isn't great. It is a hotel off Route 66, a road more dotted with motels than nicer hotels, so maybe it just is what it is for where it is. However, it was place to lay our heads for the night, nothing made me want to stay.

From the moment we arrived, the kindness and care we received went far beyond anything we expected. Manager Amy runs an outstanding team and clearly sets the tone for genuine compassion and service. Ray at the front desk was especially wonderful--he went out of his way to help us, even connecting us with his sister Juana, who graciously stepped in to give us rides around town when we needed them. That level of personal care is something you just don't see anymore. Ray himself was also incredibly inspiring and helpful throughout our stay. Susan, who took care of hospitality and the kitchen, made sure we were comfortable and well cared for every day. Andrea kindly gave us a ride to the hospital, Jeremy made sure we got safely back, and Carlos helped with transportation to the mechanic so we could deal with the truck. Each person we encountered showed genuine kindness, generosity, and a willingness to go above and beyond. In a difficult moment, they treated us more like family than guests. If you're ever in Santa Rosa, this is the place to stay. Not just for the rooms--but for the truly exceptional people who work there. Thank you all again for everything--you made a hard situation so much easier, and we will never forget it.

My husband went in while I waited in the car. He came out with the room key and we went upstairs. We booked with two beds because of my RA and me waking up several times a night. We went up to the room and upon entering, there was only one bed. Knowing this isn't ideal for our situation, I then went downstairs to talk to the manager. He immediately began to raise his voice at me and said, "well you open the door and therefore we cannot change your room." I argued with him and showed him our itinerary where it stated two rooms. He didn't care. I said I would like a refund so we could go somewhere else and he declined. I argued back at him and at that time he said, "you can get out of my hotel. I don't want people like you here." People like us? As my husband is African American and I'm caucasian? I couldn't believe he said that to me. I was so upset from this endeavor I hardly slept that night. I will NEVER stay nor would I ever suggest this hotel to anyone in Santa Rosa, NM. Not only that, but there was an old salad in the fridge and the floor was absolutely filthy. I have pictures to post, but do not see a place to post them. My husband and I have been married for more than 32 years. How dare he!
