After hours on I-40, we pulled in hoping for a clean room and a good night's sleep. Instead, we found one of the cutest little Route 66 motels we've stayed in. The orange and teal colors, the retro vibe, the beautifully crafted property...it all has so much personality. You can tell this isn't just another motel. It's a place that people genuinely care about. The woman at check-in was incredibly friendly, and opening the door to a room that was already perfectly cool, with oldies playing and Turner Classic Movies tuned on the TV, honestly made us grin. It felt like stepping into a different era in the best possible way. Then there are the practical things: the room was unbelievably clean, the beds were cozy, the sheets were soft, the A/C worked perfectly, and OH MY GOODNESS...the water pressure! After a long day on the road, that shower was glorious. Being able to back the car right up to our door was convenient, the property was peaceful and quiet all night, and we felt completely comfortable and safe. There are plenty of places to stay in Tucumcari. This is one we'll actually remember. We left saying, "Yep...next time we're staying here again.

He made us feel right at home especially from New York! He gave us a whole introduction about the history of the motel, recommendations for local places around, his favorite spots to eat, and how everything works in the motel! The rooms are SPECTACTULAR! Absolutely spotless and pristine, decorated in a vibrant orange, blue and cream color. Everything looked and felt like you were stuck in the 50s. There was even a radio that had a dial, only playing 50s and 60s music. You park right outside of your motel door, with a key to get inside. Super easy process and easy to see when you get there! There is a dead bolt and chain to lock the room as well. An absolutely wonderful stay on the heart of Route 66! Would love to come back and stay longer and try more!

We were in no hurry to unload, and the room could stand a bit of airing out. The owner showed up at our door and informed us he wanted us to keep our door shut because of bugs. He reaches into the room, grabbed the door handle, and slammed the door shut. With us standing right there!! There are too many other decent motels in this town (and cheaper) to put up with that crap!

Veteran family owned & operated, he took his time & did it right. The last time we were there hubby was admiring the concrete work he did outside our regular room. He stamped the concrete & it looks so cool. Most impressive, is the old Route 66 Sign out front. Looks amazing as he has restored it completely. The rooms have all been completely renovated & are super clean & comfy. We have a special room we stay in, we always stay in the same king room. We have stayed here so much that when we call he must know our phone number bc he always knows who we are. We tell him we are coming & he always says "see you when you get here!" We never even have to use a credit card to hold our room he just says "y'all can pay when you get here." One night late he even left the key for us :) A wonderful place to stay on Route 66 that has so much nostalgia with incredible friendly service. The King bed in our room is super comfy. Worst experience of my life. My husband and I booked this hotel through Wyndham website, not…read morethrough a third party, although they sad it was. My husband went in while I waited in the car. He came out with the room key and we went upstairs. We booked with two beds because of my RA and me waking up several times a night. We went up to the room and upon entering, there was only one bed. Knowing this isn't ideal for our situation, I then went downstairs to talk to the manager. He immediately began to raise his voice at me and said, "well you open the door and therefore we cannot change your room." I argued with him and showed him our itinerary where it stated two rooms. He didn't care. I said I would like a refund so we could go somewhere else and he declined. I argued back at him and at that time he said, "you can get out of my hotel. I don't want people like you here." People like us? As my husband is African American and I'm caucasian? I couldn't believe he said that to me. I was so upset from this endeavor I hardly slept that night. I will NEVER stay nor would I ever suggest this hotel to anyone in Santa Rosa, NM. Not only that, but there was an old salad in the fridge and the floor was absolutely filthy. I have pictures to post, but do not see a place to post them. My husband and I have been married for more than 32 years. How dare he!

They have a cool looking pool in the back but unfortunately we did not have time to check it out and we did not bring our swim trunks.  Masks are required here so make sure you bring them.  The only reason why a 4 and not a 5 star is because we had to wait quite awhile to get checked in as there was no one at the desk to greet us.  I wish the closet was not hidden as it was in front of the door, but looked very small.

It's along Route 66 and with the Centennial celebration coming up soon, it was wonderful to be able to see this motel in its updated glory. The Roadrunner Lodge is considered mid-century modern. The room was nicely decorated and created the feel of going back in time. Very well kept with some nice updates, while staying true to the theme of a bygone era. Tucumcari was once considered a little Las Vegas because of all of its neon signs. A lot of the businesses have kept some of those neon signs alive, which makes it beautiful to drive through at night. The owner of the Roadrunner Lodge has a passion for keeping those neon signs lit and active in his community. There is not a coffee maker in the room, but there is a nice coffee station with breakfast treats in the front office in the morning. This was a fun and pleasant stay and I would recommend this motel, especially for anyone with nostalgia of Route 66.
