It's such a great community pool. Very clean and not too busy. They have a very shallow end for kids or for those that can't swim or want to just enjoy being in the water on a hot day and then it goes to 5 ft then 10ft for diving. I am super disappointed in the is pool. I have swam at this pool 3 different times throughout this summer with my kids. Every time we leave my kids eyes are so red and irritated that they can't even open them. The irritation lasts for hours after we leave and shower to get the chemicals out. At first I thought it was a fluke, but it only happens at this pool. We swim 3 x a week at another pool and we never have irritation of their eyes. A friend who went to the pool with us is a pool specialist and suggested that we do not take the kids back until they can figure out their levels. ****update I called the pool over a week ago and asked that the manager call me to discuss my concerns and have yet to hear anything back**** read more

I just completed a 6-class course of adult swim instruction here to learn/improve my freestyle stroke. Trish, my instructor, is great. She used various techniques and exercises and I made quick progress. She's encouraging, fun, and easy going and I always felt comfortable and empowered. The pool staff were professional. The only thing is this place is due for a renovation. I hope they manage to get some funding. The prices are so reasonable, it's still well-worth it. read more

Poor communication by staff. They completely cancelled my grandson and granddaughter's session without notification or apology. We show up excited for lessons after rearranging many schedules only to be rudely told by staff -your entire session- 2 weeks is cancelled. They offered no other class and still had not refunded the money. They replied - we will put you on a waitlist and maybe you can get into whatever session we decide. They do not take into account family schedules. I understand if the pool equipment was broken, but the way they handled this was unprofessional . read more

I am a senior in need of more exercise so started going to the La Mesa Pool last year 2022. Pretty nice. Locker room is clean. Showers are refreshing with hot and cold water. Pool is nice. I go between noon and 3pm and never crowded. Always an open lane. Do 10 laps and hit the spa for ten minutes and back home I go. Admission fees are up. Paid $51 for 20 sessions last year. Prices up 30% as of July 1 2023 for everyone. Now $68 for 20 sessions for seniors. The pool has been closed for several months due to some kind of mechanical failure with no scheduled reopen date as of July 2023. read more

I'm definitely a fan of the swim programs offered here. They're cheaper than other places I've looked into and if you're a resident of La Mesa, you do get a discount. That's not the reason I love it here though. I met head lifeguard Becky a few years ago when my son went through the Kidz Watch program. I was so impressed with her professionalism and attitude when I spoke with her about my son's special needs regarding swim classes that I didn't hesitate to enroll him here. In fact that day he had been invited to swim at the pool and she was able to get him off the steps and into the water! The first summer he was enrolled, Becky initially had an instructor work with him one on one. He needed this in the beginning because of his special needs, but the lifeguard working with him later, towards the end of the summer determined that he was able to join a small group and he did really well. My son has returned for fall and summer classes over the years and all the staff here have been great to him. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the swim programs here at the La Mesa Municipal Pool. They also have classes for adults as well. There are open swim times where you can bring the family and jump in and cool off. They have a diving board in the deep end of the pool and a whirl pool. You can even rent out the pool for your special event. They offer private lessons too. There is something for everyone here, which is why I like it. If you're unable to utilize the pool fully, they also offer adapted swim on Saturdays year round! read more

Staff is all super nice and the facility is always clean. The Covid policies are ridiculous though. People sign up for lanes and then don't show up. At other pools you have to pay a fee if you do this (the Y charges $12 on top of your membership fee and UCSD you still pay the fee and you're banned for the rest of the week). Even if you're there and there's a lane open you can't swim in it because it's technically reserved. With limited pool options pool patrons need to have some level of accountability. read more

Signed my son up today for youth lessons. Great customer service over the phone! La mesa Is very hot but there are less children at this pool than other municipal pools. Instruction has been efficient so far. Because of the extreme heat at this location you should have an air conditioned room for parents to stay in. read more

It is great to have a neighborhood pool. The bummer about our La Mesa pool is that it is closed so often for many different reasons (some reasons of which seem to be used very often as excuses). It closes every year during Winter, which I understand since the weather gets cold and the majority of the pool users are senior citizens. But, a few years ago, the pool re-opened about 5 months later than it was supposed to. This was due to the excuse of "waiting for parts." That is one of the go to excuses when it has been closed many other times that is was supposed to be open. There is also the frequent use of "the pH of the water is off" that often keeps it closed. These way too often unexpected closures would be a little easier to accept if they would update their web site or phone message with the unexpected closures (ones that are closures for just a day here and there, not longtime closures). I just wish there was a little more effort in the running of the whole operation. read more

This is a great place to bring your kids for lessons or just a swim day. I have been bringing my granddaughters for 4 yrs. Two summers just one two week session and now two sessions per summer. What they have learned in that short time is unbelievable. Very happy with their time spent here. Yes the facility is old but they do wonderful things here! Give it a try. Also the Staff are very nice and courteous . It seems like the instructors are young (college age) and have been in swim programs themselves for many years and this gives them a great amount of patience and knowledge to teach young children. read more

HEATED YEAR ROUND! I feel the need, the need to swim .... But also, the need to let parents know about this incredible pool and swim lessons. My review is based solely as a parent of a preschooler, we have not taken any other lessons at this pool. But I will say that they are polite at the front desk, keep the place clean, and the bathrooms are a great size. The "waiting" room where parents sit to watch the kids is GREAT. You can seem them in the water, but they can't see you. This allows them to focus on learning. Parents are not allowed on the "deck" as they say. Which is another plus so that the kids are distracted by parent. They almost offer year round swim classes for preschoolers, they take a winter break. Our oldest, 4 yo tomorrow, started swimming here at the end of last summer. Then they had winter break. In March the classes started up again three days a week for three weeks ($38 for residence of La Mesa and $45 for non-residents). Now we are just about to start the summer classes which go daily for two weeks (same cost). The classes have 12-15 kiddos from 3-6 I believe. The preschool classes now will go to the end of October. I've tried SO many swim classes for our infant, toddler and preschooler and they were all a complete waste of money. If you do nothing else, please learn from our experience that if the pool doesn't not have a 2 foot end, there is NO point in signing up your kids, PERIOD. The sit on the steps waiting for a "teacher" to pull them through the water once or twice during the 30 min class along with 12 other kids. She loved the pool and the staff was nice. 3 stars because the under 6 lessons are hard to see from the bleechers and the little room is crowded with those way over excited over achieving parents who sit there and compare their children....gag! Also the staff seems a bit unorganized with the paperwork aspect. But the price is good and we will return. read more

Our experience with their swimming instructors have been awesome we are def coming back for the next session my son enjoys it a lot and my daughter does as well. The instructors gently push the kids and one time my son was crying and the instructor helped him calm down and get back to teaching them!!! We love our swim classes here; after our first session (Monday through Friday for 30 minutes a day for two weeks), my 12 month old and I had so much fun that we have since signed up for two more sessions, now just once a week on Saturdays. Most of the babies in our class love it, and there is always one baby who is scared of the water but they always show a lot of improvement (a lot less tears) by the of the session (or two). Our teachers have been great with the kids and great at keeping the class interesting, and we've met the nicest parents in the class too. This doesn't really teach them how to swim at this age (I recommend Bubbles swim classes for that, though older aged classes at this pool teach swimming), but this is an extremely affordable fun morning activity that introduces babies to the pool, water safety, being on their backs in the water, and submersions (at the parent's discretion). This facility is in serious need of a face.lift. if you want the feel of swimming in PRISON in the 1960's, this is your place. Locker rooms, dark and dirty, surrounded by Stockade fence with barbed wire and peeling paint everywhere. Also signs taped everywhere saying, NO this and DON'T do that! Being from LAMesa, it is kinda embarassing. On the positive side, swim staff is nice and kids had fun at lessons. read more

My main concern was the Cutomer service. It was not good. The kids working here were not professional. I work with an individual who has mental and physical disabilities I was going to watch her in the pool and not enter myself. Yet the girl at the front desk insisted I still needed to pay even though I wasn't entering. Luckily another gentle men was able to step in and "okay" me not paying. He also let the girl I was with in free this time. I also didn't like the fact that it's cash only if you're just coming for the day and do not have a pass. In this day and age people use a card quite often. There was no sign saying cash only for day swimming. A couple elderly ladies exiting the pool also complained that the current staff were not hospitable and suggested I make a complaint. Aside from the somewhat unprofessional service, the pool itself was great and the surrounding location nice as well. A couple tables with benches out front and even a small grill. read more
