When my son decided he wanted to play water polo in high school with absolutely no prior experience, I found out about Amelia and A Splashing Success Swim School. Although my son originally signed up for group lessons, when he was the only one that registered, Amelia did not cancel the sessions or raise the cost for what was not private lessons. Due to the wonderful set-up, I was able to watch the lessons while she taught him water polo skills and ran him through drills. I was quite impressed with how clearly she verbally broke down the skills prior to demonstration and her relaxed methods of correcting/adjusting his form. At the end of the sessions, he had a firm foundation to begin working out with the water polo team. Additionally, I was able to observe the lessons before and after my son's and I could see the same supportive manner in working with those students. This is the 4th summer my daughter is taking swimming classes with Amelia. She is an excellent teacher and my daughter improves immensely each summer. She was 3 1/2 when we started and wouldn't even put her face in the water. By the 4th lesson she was doing the freestyle across the short length of the pool and even turning over to float midway to catch her breath. She is THAT good. Her pool is solar heated and has benches with canopies for parents to watch. There is also a large outdoor playroom for kids to play in while they wait. She also has a bathroom with an exterior door entrance for her students to use. Plenty of parking as well, and she's conveniently located right off the 94 freeway. Amelia also teaches fitness at the local YMCA and has a great demeanor and rapport with the kids. We have done both private and semi-private classes and all have been great. She is reasonably priced as well. I can't recommend her more highly, and have done so with several friends who have been happy I did. read more

After our first summer swimming lessons with Amelia, my son, and daughter no longer fear the "deep" side of the pool. Heck, after seeing their progress in one month, I decided to join myself. After MUCH searching, I came across this swim school. I'm SO glad I did! The owner/instructor is WONDERFUL! She's patient and very understanding! She's always professional and kind! She is very safe and gives clear directions. The pool is outdoors and partially shaded. The water is warm! A restroom and changing room are available. There is a comfortable waiting area, as well. The surrounding area is peaceful so there are no distractions during the lesson. I HIGHLY recommend this school. read more

I was using Bubbles swim school and after covid they jacked up the price so I was looking around for another option. OMG best decision ever. My kids have gotten so much better with her instruction. She is amazing. And invites parents in the pool so we can learn how to help them practice (not required but I love it). My kids love going. She is fabulous. I started bringing my two younger daughters to Amelia for private lessons after failed success from the local recreation centers swim lessons. They weren't excited and felt lost in the class and were very shy/scared to try new things. Going to Amelia's classes is a breath of fresh air. They absolutely cannot wait to go and have improved dramatically since their 4th class. One is even swimming across our pool now and the youngest (4) can hold her breath under water (when prior she was scared to even go in). The setting is very accommodating and I can watch in comfort and they are so happy and really have excelled in the time they have been under Amelia's teachings and supervision. We tried, without success, a couple of group swim lessons before we found Amelia and A Splashing Success. My son had had a pool accident and was very timid and cried the first time we came here. That was last summer. This summer my son, age 5 can swim the length of her pool in a freestyle stroke and can even float on his back. The progress has been unbelievable! This is a private home pool and a very small group and Amelia is amazing. She has the unique ability to make the swim lessons enjoyable for the kids and watching his progress has been great. My boys tried larger group lessons twice, but because of some fear of deep water, they just weren't learning to swim. I found Amelia through Yelp originally, and when we talked by phone I felt she understood our priorities very well -- to get my boys from needing eyes constantly on them while they were on or near water, to their being reasonably water-safe and able to understand (and perform) basic swim strokes and survival steps, like getting over to the side quickly if the water was too deep for their comfort level. With an amiable personality, she navigated the semi-private lessons (i.e., just my two kids in the class) in a progressive and logical manner, always giving them a chance to review important skills at the start of each lesson, such as water-bobs. One of the aspects I was most impressed with is that Amelia paid attention to how they were advancing and never let them rest on their laurels -- each lesson held new (but manageable) challenges for them to take on. They went from dreading the first few lessons (because of aforementioned fear issues) to eagerly looking forward to the next one, and being sad when lessons were over. We did twice-weekly lessons for two sessions, which is what they needed to be safer and more competent swimmers. I am grateful to Amelia for her diligent work with the boys. read more

All 4 of my children have had lessons with Amelia. My two older sons are great swimmers now, and that was after my oldest "failed" in group lessons. My two little girls were just months old when they started with Amelia, and I wasn't nervous at all, she was so great with them! I truly believe her style of teaching, so patient and understanding, made them love being in the water. The environment is nice and relaxing, the water is never cold and my kids loved the toys.
