We have taken both of our children to Bubbles since they were about 18 months old and can't speak highly enough of it! Their method of swim-float-swim has been so much more helpful than generic swim classes offered elsewhere. I feel confident my kids would know what to do if they were to unexpectedly fall in the water. Did not plan on leaving a review but after reading multiple bad reviews, I decided I need to add my good review of this place. I agree with the review before me, if you are a "gentle parent" or your child needs to be coddled, this place is not for you. The instructors are very straight forward and don't put up with kids not following directions, which we love. We tried swim lessons elsewhere and our kids have thrived at Bubbles. Seeing other young kids who have been attending this swim school for a while are proof that their methods do work. I will always recommend this school. Would love to give 5 stars but I do agree that the bathroom / changing area could be better but it's no biggie to us. read more

Not for People of color. Parents beware. The owner Jere (pronounced Jeri) has shouted at me in a disrespectful manner three times. I am writing this because she just rudely shouted at me. The first time me and my tall six year old son walked into the women's restroom because he still needs help. She screamed "no he cannot be in there!!" Her tone was sharp and loud. I have given her no reason to be disrespectful. The second time she yelled at me was because the pool showers were off limits but my son and I didn't know. The way she shouts AT ME is very rude and unexpected by how disrespectful she behaves, she feels untouchable because she owns the pool My son defended me and said "there's no sign". The third time was today and she shouted at me in front of her client's children and parents. They also turned in shock. It was embarrassing and I can no longer take the disrespect in front of my son and other families. The reason I put up with her shouting at me is because my son loves swimming and it is at a convenient location. I spoke with the front desk but they don't seem very bothered nor surprised when I told them about (jerri). I have not seen or heard her shout or scold other parents. It's pretty obvious this is because I am the only single Latina mother she feels doesn't deserve professionalism. I speak perfect clear English. I'm probably more formally educated than she expects. And in a higher financial tax bracket than she can imagine. I had paid for next season in advance but I want my money back. Because I cannot support a racist owned company. If you are Hispanic or person of color, just walk into a class and feel the racism. On a lighter note, they told me not to get upset. Two of my kids attended this school for a couple years. One from 1.5 - 4 and another from 6 months - almost 3. Then we moved to Japan and took a year off before we were back in the area for a few months where we re-enrolled them for a few months for a refresher. Today, I just want to thank them so much for everything they taught my kids. Today could have gone so differently. We were out camping in cabins at a lake in Japan and our younger child was out with 3 other kids and they ended up near the water which had a deep drop off. I was changing and one of the other parents was going to see what they were up to. My younger son somehow fell into the lake with his bike helmet and sneakers on. No one screamed. My older child came up to the road and told a parent... Instead of screaming (I wish they had ran and screamed.) The parent ran down to the water and saw my younger child floating on his back out in the lake where it was too deep for her to stand. She swam out and got him. She said these lessons saved him. Here I am extremely pregnant and I'm overly emotional about what could have happened today. I know God was with us today and I'm forever grateful for their investment in our children. I read a few of the reviews including the bad ones. All I can say is if you are an overprotective parent that believes everybody gets a gold star, this place may not be for you. If you want your child to learn to swim quickly, this is the place. At Waterworks, we were just throwing money away and he was not learning to swim fast enough. I recommend Bubbles to anyone who wants their children to be safe around water. My 3-and-a-half-year-old has been getting lessons for 2 years and my 1-and-a-half-year-old for about 8 months. I will say the staff and management have a no-nonsense approach to teaching and dealing with parents and students. I don't take personal offense and understand everyone is different in the way they run their business and approach the jobs they are doing. I've seen significant improvement with both of my boys. I feel safe knowing they would be okay if they ever fell into a pool. My oldest would be able to swim to the side of the pool and my youngest would be able to float safely. The teachers encourage independence and don't allow for parents to interfere with lessons. Teachers are strict and will not tolerate bad behavior (screaming, kicking, not listening, etc). Usually when this happens they let the kids know what they are doing is not okay and will sit them on the edge of the pool until they agree to listen. At the end of each lesson the kids get a "crazy jump" which is fun and is the highlight for my oldest son. I don't mind the stern way of the teachers because as a mother I can see when my boys were pushing boundaries (not listening, playing when they should be paying attention) and they quickly realize that wouldn't be tolerated. The last class of each session is "fun day" where most of the class is spent playing and having a good time which I think helps balance out the no-nonsense lessons. On occasion my boys won't be in the mood to swim and may cry at the beginning. The teachers have always taken a few minutes to calm them and ease them into the class. In my experience, the teachers are very encouraging. My boys enjoy going to swim, have good relationships with all the teachers, and are learning life saving skills. read more

Pool safety for babies and toddlers is extremely important. We started our boy at Bubbles when he was 2 for this reason. Now he's three and, with the aid of a special floating wet suit, he can jump in their big, warm tent-covered pool, flip onto his back, and float. He has also learned to hold his breath under water, and paddle forward with his arms. Soon he won't even need the wet suit. And he has fun with the other kids! That's why we keep signing up for session after session. He's learning what to do if he falls in a pool first. Actual swimming will come later. This is the best place to go. I do not recommend Bubbles for older children. I took my 7-year-old here for a 6 week session, but we did not end up finishing the session. It was not a good experience for several reasons: all children in her session were much younger than her (I think between 1-3 yrs old,) the skills they had her working on were significantly below her ability, and she was only swimming for about 10 minutes of the 30 minute session. The school seems safe and good for water safety at a younger age; however, for older children or children with some swimming ability, I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

We have done two sessions here. Pros: We liked our teacher a lot. Your child learns to follow directions. They also learn how to get themselves out of the pool. Cons: group size is supposed to be 3 but is frequently 4 so for a 30 minute lesson your child doesn't get a lot of swim time. 3 is already a big group for 30 min. Also, if your child is in a group with other kids who don't listen, splash, spit, or take toys, it wastes a ton of lesson time and the teachers really don't do anything about it. My daughter left upset more than once. The other teachers were not as nice as ours and I wouldn't have re enrolled the second time if I hadn't been able to get the same teacher. Overall, we had an ok experience but I definetly wouldn't enroll again. read more

The amenities for the parents who are waiting during the class aren't stellar, and they have a small parking lot (though street parking is available), but the teachers are fantastic. Parents beware-look elsewhere for swim lessons! I came here with my 3 year old son for one swim lesson, and we knew immediately we would not return to subject him to such poor treatment of children, and outdated methods. My son doesn't like getting his head/face wet, and is very attached to me, so on his 3rd time out with Christina, he was understandably crying. Instead of responding in a developmentally appropriate/caring/mature manner, her response was a simple and cold "no crying", and "if you stop crying you can go back to your mommy." I stopped in to speak to the owner about this approach to a crying child, and rather than listening to a concerned parent, she was rude, and my words fell on deaf and uncaring ears. I seriously hope she will consider my feedback, and adjust her approach, however given her response, I highly doubt it. (I have nearly 14 years experience with early childhood education, as well as a master's degree, so this is my area of expertise). In no way will this style of swim lessons build a positive early experience in the water, instead it will create fear and negative connections to water for young children. The owners/staff of this joke of a swim "school" should be ashamed of themselves. read more

At first I was happy with the introductory my child received to feel comfortable in the water, but soon learned the ration was sometimes 4 to 1 which didn't leave a lot of time for each child to receive a good lesson for the amount of money spent. My issue with this school is the lack of communication between the instructors and parent. My child has a rare eye condition which caused him to need goggles which was directed from his Ophthalmologist. I had let the Instructor know that my child needs to wear them because of an eye issue. We have been dealing with my child's eye issue for over a year and it has taken a series of appointments and waiting for answers of the unknown until we finally received an actual diagnosis. This being said his first 12 lessons he didn't wear goggles because his doctor never prompted us to do so. I noticed his eyes were bothering him much more after we had taken a week off due to swimmers ear. it was as if his eyes were burning. His normal instructor was good about keeping the goggles on or prompting my child to put them on, but there was another instructor who had him on a day that his normal instructor was out and she had told me she was briefed on his goggle situation from the last instructor. At the tail end of his lesson he didn't want to wear them, which I understand as it's a new thing for him, but she took it upon herself to submerge him in the water twice without the goggles on. After the second time it happened I pulled him out of the pool and said we were done for the day. She had the audacity to say to my child "see that's what happens when you don't want to wear your goggles." For goodness sake my child is a 3 year old and doesn't understand why he has to wear them. Since I was very unhappy about what had happened I left a note at the front reception desk, I wrote the note. I was not contacted as a week went by and we were now at our second lesson of the following week and I still had not heard back. At this lesson it was the last class of the session which is when they let the kids have a little more fun and float on rafts and go down a slide. My child was able to participate in the last slide activity with all the other kids, but not this time. All the kids except for my child and another child who has a disability was excluded from all the other kids getting to go down the slide and have fun. I wanted to know why my child was excluded this time. So, I left another note at the front reception desk letting her know I still haven't received call back about my last message and now I want to know why my child is being singled out. I wanted to speak with someone at the school and explain the severity of his eye issue so they could be on the same page and let all the instructors know. I really thought that someone would call me back and we could actually talk about the issue. I didn't think that I should have to explain anything more than an eye issue because truthfully it isn't anyone's business to know, but apparently by me saying he needs to wear goggles wasn't enough direction for the one instructor. If my child didn't want to wear them and wasn't listening to the instructor it is as simple as asking me the come over and speak with my child about putting them on which I would have gladly done since I always sat very close to the area my child was given lessons. You DO NOT take it upon yourself to go against my direction for MY child! I didn't receive a call back until 5 days later. So in total from my first note I was not contacted for 12 days. I find that to be very unprofessional. I had asked for a refund as we had signed up for the next 12 sessions. The voicemail I received wasn't to address the issue I had left in the first note, it was basically to tell me that she was gone that day for her daughter's graduation and never received my first note. Also that she would be refunding us which I am happy they allow with a 25.00 processing fee. I understand that we all need time off from work, but not a single person could call me back within the 12 days. read more

We had such a disappointing experience with this school. During class one day my son's eyes started swelling and that night they became swollen shut. I thought it was something wrong with my son only so I kept him out of class for the rest of the week. When we went back the next week his eyes weren't as bad but he still cried all night and his eyes were visibly red and watering. When I confronted the staff they just said ya it's everyone, the pool was treated the week before and they aren't sure what is wrong but they can't drain the pool or do anything because the owner was gone. I told them I wasn't comfortable bringing him until it was resolved and to have the owner call me. When she called the next week she was so incredibly rude, defensive and unaccommodating. She never even said sorry until I called her out on her behavior and all she said was sorry for not saying sorry with even more attitude. What a pathetic attempt to make it right and be empathetic to the pain she caused my son. I genuine sorry and would have gone a long way. She could benefit from a course in customer service. My 2 yr old grand daughter was attending and she had Monica as her instructor. There was no consistency with the same instructor. My grand daughter screams at the top of her lungs like a lot of other children did. Monica ignored her and continued with the other two students. The other instructor was great very gentle and calming for my granddaughter but was going between two classes. My granddaughter kept running out of the pool screaming. You pay for 30 minute session but your kid gets 10 minutes of lesson. If your child is having fear issues they don't know how to deal with them. The mother or owner was rude and harsh with the other kids she was teaching and I did not agree with her teaching. Pulling the kids by the neck face down or pushing their heads under. My daughter called to ask if she was still with the same instructor and they had already removed her from Monica's group to another instructor. If you cannot handle or do not know how to work with kids that are fearful of strangers and scream then this is the place for you to work. We found a great place now and are much happier with the staff and atmosphere. They are used to working with fearful kids an know how to get them to relax the teaching is professional and kid oriented. This swim school is awesome. We started our son Jason there when he was about 2 with Ms. Kami and put him in 3 sessions. At that time, we thought "we have our own pool and it was summer so we could just work with him ourselves." This was a wrong decision, as kids act differently with their parents vs a 3rd party teacher. We eventually came back...this time with our younger son as well. Ms. Jerry is the baby whisperer so she takes all the young kids. Our 18 month son would cry the first 3 lessons but she took everything really slow with him to build his trust and now she puts her arms out and he jumps right to her. My 4 y/o, Jason, is in class with Mr. Cameron. Jason is a very strong willed, silly, energetic boy!! Mr. Cameron uses lots of patience while taking control and making sure he is doing what he needs to do to be safe in water. He not only tells him WHAT to do, he physically SHOWS him how, which some kids need. He has a different trick with each kid, not just on auto pilot teaching class after class with only one method. Bubbles teachers are a perfect balance of sternness and compassion. They are there to teach your child life saving techniques. If I could do anything different, I wish I started my boys at Bubbles at a younger age...like 7 months and kept them in it continuously. If you are thinking about enrolling your child here and have any doubt, just go sit through a few classes yourself. It's pretty impressive what they have these young kids doing in a pool at a very young age. Their technique is unique and proven. Oh, and since Ms Lori was brought on at the front desk, you'll get excellent, friendly, customer service. This has been a Great experience for my three-year-old in for my 19 month old. It has been four weeks and I have seen a huge improvement with both of them. My youngest just cried the first three sessions and now it seems like he is happy to be there and listens to the teacher and swims. I rate it Poor - Fair because they fail to mention on the website that a 30 minute class is actually only 10 minutes of instructor taught swim time. They have a 3:1 ratio which means there is one instructor for 3 children. When the instructor is one on one with another student your child is sitting on a step playing with a toy. We are halfway through the six week session. My son is learning to float on his back with the aid of some sort of swim suit. If he can float on his back without the aid of any device when the 6 week session is over then I will write a new review as it will be all worth the price. They do have a shower in each restroom with shampoo and soap so you can shower your child before leaving. This is especially handy if your class is in the evening as you don't have to do it when you get home or if you are going someplace after the lesson. read more

My son has gone to this swim school for several weeks every summer for about 3 years now, and I've been meaning to leave this review for a while now. I've had great experiences at this school. The teachers are no nonsense, as they should be while teaching water safety. They're teaching very young children how to not drown, so there has to be a certain level of seriousness. The staff has always been friendly to me, and I've only seen them being kind to the other parents. I will say that this may not be the perfect school for everyone. There are usually 3 students to one instructor, so if your child needs more one on one time, I recommend contacting the staff to see if you can watch a lesson to see if it is right for your child. If your child can sit in one area and play with a toy for a few minutes without needing to get up, they'll be fine here. My son is now 5 years old, has great basic skills considering he only goes a few weeks a year, and can't wait to back every year. read more

My 4yo and her 6yo cousin took their very first swim lessons here in December and it was pretty rough right from the first class (diff class times and days). The first class they don't explain anything (rules, what theyll be doing, no expectations are set w the parents or kids) they just expect all kids are continuing lessons I guess but not sure which starting class they give instructions in. They have 3 classes going at once with 4 or sometimes more kids per teacher (on the website it says 3:1 ratio so they give you a small discount if they overfill the class) so it's super chaotic w tons of kids splashing/playing/yelling while they wait their turn w the instructor (which they spend majority of the class doing) each 30 min class they get around 10 mins or less w the instructor. The kids at all age levels seem to be learning the same thing/same pace for the most part (making them dunk their heads underwater from the first lesson without more than a 2 second notice before doing it) with a few older kids learning some different strokes. The teachers all seem pretty apathetic and aren't great w helping kids who need some extra attention cause they're scared. We had the first class of the day and they're always starting late but end on time or early cause they have multiple classes per evening. The owner is also an instructor who is the most aggressive w her teaching style, all I can say is I'm thankful she was always w the older/advanced class and not w my daughter. Every time we had class my daughter would dread it and asked several times to cancel lessons (she looked like she had ptsd at one point while waiting for the class to start) and we thought it was because she was nervous but it's 100% the school/teachers. We're now taking age appropriate lessons at the local ymca ($6 more per class but 10000x more worth it) which has different stages they progress through, have a 1:1 or 1:2 ratio and the teachers actually seem to enjoy working w kids and make it fun. The facility is way nicer/newer and theres tons of instructors and lifeguards on duty so everything is very safe and clean. My daughter wants to go to class and even talked about her favorite parts of the lessons. I wish we had just started at the Y from the beginning. Save up a few extra bucks and do your kid a favor by sending them elsewhere! read more

I love this place! My son is 14 months old and is loving every lesson and showing remarkable strides! The first 4 or so lessons he was upset and crying. I felt bad for the instructor having to deal with him being upset. But then all of a sudden he decided swim lessons were the best thing ever! He gets excited when arrive and just wants to run into the pool. I appreciate how the teacher Kere is firm with him if he is not behaving but gives great praise when he does well. There are rules to being in the pool and I love how everything Bubbles does enforces that idea. From simple things like staying seated while you wait your turn to being told to wait before they jump in. My 4-year old son was afraid to put his face in the water when we started. He wouldn't come off the step or even crawl along the wall. After one 6-week session, he is NOT scared anymore. Here's the thing, your kids should be afraid of the water until they know how to swim. This is how we keep them safe, isn't it? I like that the teachers spoke to the kids with authority, even with the parents sitting right there. It showed that they were NOT playing around and they were serious about what they were teaching. These classes will save children's lives one day. That's why they teach survival, not just cannon balls and doggy paddle. Great job, Bubbles! Keep up the amazing work you do! read more

We've been going to bubbles for 6 years to have our three children not only swim, but swim proficiently and with confidence. Prior to going to Bubbles we started with Murry Callen in Pacific Beach. The format was very similar to Bubbles except for two things. They were amazingly strict and much more expensive for the same lesson structure. They too were a 3 to 1 ratio for a 30 minute session (which is very common among swim schools). After a few sessions with Murry Callen we got tired of how strict they were with their instructors and the sterile environment. So we found Bubbles which was less expensive, more laid back and had plenty of room to sit down and watch our kids in class (Murry Callen had no real seating). We found the instructors at Bubbles to be focused on the teaching and the safety of the kids. Don't mistake their concentration for being unfriendly...they are just focusing on what each kid they are training needs. Over the years we've seen and experienced the family who runs the school be fair, consistent, and firm with both the children and the parents. When we've missed classes due to illness, vacation, or just forgetting, they have been more than accommodating even when it has gone against their policy, if the circumstances were conducive to helping us out. I would highly recommend this school over the other similar schools for both the price and the facility size (They have two swimming pools and ample seating). Yes, we've invested a small fortune in swimming lessons, but it was well worth the price knowing our kids are now really good swimmers! read more

My toddler has been taking swim lessons at Bubbles since he was 10 months old. I highly recommend Bubbles to any and all parents that wants their child to learn water safety and survival skills! The best aspect of their teaching method is that they teach safety first. I wasn't looking for a class where my son could splash and play in the water (although they do plenty of that), I wanted him to learn how to float and survive should he ever fall into the water. They have a great approach to teaching them how to do that. On top of these great survival skills, the kids also learn great lessons such as waiting your turn (classes are in groups of 3), sharing toys, patience, following directions, etc. My son has been in Kere's class and she is beyond wonderful. She is very patient, loving, fun, and an excellent teacher. My son went through a phase, as most kids do, of crying and whining during lessons. Although it was hard for me to watch I had to trust Kere and let her work my son through it. The instructors experience this all of the time and know how to guide the child through their fears. If you are the type of parent that can't sit and watch this happen I wouldn't recommend Bubbles for you. I've learned that the kids need to see the instructors as the authority figure in the pool, if the parent disregards the instructor they will start looking to you for direction instead. He was gently guided through the lessons and Kerri talked to and cuddled him, but also encouraged him to still do what was asked. He only cried off and on for maybe 3 lessons (not sessions) and after that he stopped and was back to his happy and calm self. The pool was recently redone and is very clean and well kept. There is a cover so the kids are protected from the sun and during the winter it is enclosed so everyone stays warm. The only drawback of the facility is the small restroom, but I'm bringing my child here for the great instructors and environment - I can deal with the restroom. :) read more

I've been taking my son here for about 1.5 yrs. He defiantly was a crier with his first sessions. The instructors where great explaining that it is normal for a lot of kids & instructed me how to react to his crying, which was very helpful! Now he cries when the session is over. I love that they teach the kids water safety. At first they are teaching the kids to save there life if they should fall into a body of water. Which was always my concern, if it came down to it would he be able to remember what to do. We had a first hand experience at a friends house, he fell into the pool fully clothed as a result of reaching for a ball. He knew exactly what to do! I highly recommend Bubbles Swim School to everyone I know with young kids. You can never be too careful when it comes to your kids safety!!!! read more
