Fraud Complaint Against La Mesa RV Location: 7430 Copley Park Pl, San Diego, CA 92111 Date of Incident: January/February 2025 Filed: February 21, 2025 I am submitting this complaint to report fraudulent practices by La Mesa RV in San Diego, CA, during the purchase of my first RV. While parts of my experience were positive, the subsequent actions of the dealership's staff were deceptive and unethical, resulting in unauthorized charges and misleading financial terms. Initially, my experience with Erik, a sales representative, was excellent. Within an hour, he guided me to an RV that suited my needs as a first-time buyer, and I felt confident it was the right choice. The agreed purchase price was $89,995, and I provided a $1,000 deposit. However, this is where the issues began. The finance manager, Leo, processed my deposit and, without my knowledge or consent, added a $2,850 sealant detail to the purchase agreement. I never agreed to this charge and would not have, as two of my closest friends own RV detailing businesses, making this an unnecessary and exorbitant expense. When I received my initial financing offer, I was quoted a 9% interest rate with a monthly payment of $765, based on my 720 credit score and 25% down payment. Three days later, Tyler, another representative, contacted me to inform me the rate had increased to 12%. When I challenged this as unreasonable, he lowered it to 11%.Though skeptical, I reluctantly agreed, intending to refinance within a year. On February 1, 2025, I arrived to sign the loan documents, only to discover the purchase price had inexplicably increased beyond the agreed $89,995. The paperwork provided no clear explanation--no breakdown for taxes, registration, or title fees was listed. Upon closer review, I confirmed that the additional $2,850 sealant detail had been embedded in the total, a charge I had neither requested nor approved. Financing this amount at 11% interest over 240 months is absurd and something no reasonable consumer would agree to. I retained all loan documents, which my attorney has reviewed and deemed clear evidence of fraud, giving me strong grounds for a lawsuit. Additionally, a cursory glance at La Mesa RV's BBB and Yelp reviews reveals a pattern of similar complaints, suggesting this dealership has a history of deceptive practices. Seeking resolution, I met with Regional Manager Sam Gammo to present the fraudulent documents and discuss the overcharges. His response was dismissive and unprofessional--he refused to review the paperwork, explain the discrepancies, or engage in any meaningful dialogue. Instead, he stated, "You signed it, so tough luck," before abruptly leaving the room. This was the worst customer service I have ever encountered. It is shocking that a company with 50 years in business continues to engage in such blatant and fraudulent practices without accountability. Their poor reputation, evidenced by countless negative reviews, seems irrelevant to them, likely because they prioritize short-term profits over integrity. I urge the appropriate authorities to investigate La Mesa RV and put an end to their predatory behavior. Friends recently purchased a large Tiffin motorhome, they plan to sell their home and will motor coach it full time. I have seen their coach and was impressed. We have saved up, and have been considering doing the same thing part of the year, as we currently have two homes, and enjoy seasonal relocation. Went to La Mesa as they said there was a big selection, so was excited to look. A salesperson was sitting on his golf cart when I drove in, and I wrapped up a call inside my vehicle, using bluetooth, while he drove up and sat and looked at me. When I got out he asked what I wanted in such a tone, you would have thought he was a security guard and I was on their property at 2AM. Since this was about 2 PM, I thought his actions were a little strange, but told him I wanted to look at motor homes, both A and C Class. He told me to hop on his golf cart, and I told him I would prefer to walk. I learned that was not an option, as they have a policy that the salespeople must drive people around. This was not what I envisioned, as at least the motorhomes I had driven by on the way in were so close together one could only drive a golf cart in front or behind them. Again, I asked if I could walk around the motor homes to see which ones may be of interest, this time his reply was, no was many are sold. I decided that I didn't need to look at motorhomes there after all and drove out, parked, and google other locations. It is nice when salespeople ask questions, and if they must supervise, remain attentive, but give a little space, and a little respect. The salesperson, likely in his 70's made me feel like he thought I was a klepto or something. I drive a nice Mercedes SUV, and middle aged. If I needed to show my bank balance to look at motorhomes, I would have been less insulted then thinking I needed this sales person to escort me around like a prisoner. And for God's sakes, even though it is outside, I believe in covid. If you're going to get in my face wear a mask. A salesperson, with tact can make for a strong bond at such a place. An impression of a inept, out of line salesperson, can alienate someone. If indeed the dealership's policy is to not allow people to browse, at least the outside of their inventory with some space, they should enforce it for everyone. I saw other people walking around, in and out, as I drove away slowly, and sad. Those people were not on golf carts and didn't have an immediate ball and chain. We recently purchased a 2013 Fleetwood Bounder from La Mesa in Phoenix. My first contact was with a salesman at one of their shows at the Cardinals Stadium. Even though we didn't make a purchase that day the salesman made such an impression on both my wife and I that we both agreed that if we were to purchase an R.V it would be from him. Jeff Ridgeway. He was extremely knowledgeable on their products and took the time to get to know us so he could help us find a coach that specifically met our needs. He didn't try to put us into a unit that cost more to boost his commission but rather he listened to us and our needs to make sure that we in the right unit. His commitment to us as customers went far beyond that of what we had experienced at other R.V dealers. Jeff walked us through the entire process and all the while checking to ensure that we were not only happy with our decision but comfortable while the very long process of financing took place. Jeff took the time to introduce us to the other people involved in the remainder of the closing process. We were introduced to Mark Greene that handled the financing end of our purchase. I thought that Jeff Ridgeway had been a true professional and from prior experience I was sure that Mark Greene would be the end of the dedicated sales staff at La Mesa but I was wrong. Again I found a highly skilled professional that showed us that old style manners and trust was not dead in the fast paced world of business. Mark worked with us and kept us informed through the entire ordeal that can come with making large purchases. Because of the time of year and other things going on with the closing of our home. I knew that we going to have to make a down payment but because of the holidays our closing kept being pushed back. It finally reached a point where I felt that it was asking to much of Mark to continue waiting but he reached his hand out and said if you really want to go through with this we will shake on it and when the house closes bring in the deposit. We shook hands and three days later my house closed and the R.V purchase was completed. It is men like this that have restored my faith in the modern businesses, when they consider a persons word and a hand shake as a deal. It was the integrity of these two professionals that lets me recommend La Mesa. read more

I can't find a listing for LaMesa's RV Sales in Florida, so I am assuming this is their main location to post reviews. If not, I'm sure I'll hear about it. I went to their Florida store in Fort Myers and got the same run around the other reviewer got. It must be corporate policy. I went to a "off lot" event that was billed as an RV show. I saw a few RVs before meeting "dave" the salesman. I told "dave" that we were cash buyers and had an all inclusive budget of $65,000. That means $65K after all fees and taxes. He shows us a few in the $54k price point, but then says, let me show you a nice one. We go and see a Monaco that "dave" says is priced at $69,900. I tell "dave" point blank that it is out of our budget. "Dave" reassures me he can "make it work". I look around and I tell "dave" that this RV is a lot nicer and newer than what we have seen. I ask if he is sure it can be bought under our $65K total "all-in" "walk away" budget of $65K. "dave" again assures me it will work. "dave" further tells me that the RV comes with a 15-day warranty that will "fix anything you find in the first 15 days". We go for a test ride and it is great. We love the Rv and are excited it is in our budget. We tell "dave" we will buy it. He gets out his papers and I ask about the dashboard area where it is coming apart. I ask "dave" if it is under warranty. Now "dave" says only "important" mechanical items are covered. I should have known right then. As "dave" fills out the paperwork he says "gee, I'm sorry, I'm confused, this RV is $79,900 and not $69,900." I am floored. "dave" says "I'll see what I can do". 10 minutes later "dave" comes back and brings his manager. The new "All Inclusive" price is $74,500 a whopping $10K more than we were willing to spend. The two of them "dave" and his manager wheedle and moan "you ca finance the small amount, are you sure you want to walk away from this nice RV for such a small amount?" SMALL AMOUNT? $10,000? What planet are you from? The moral of the story is: Lamesa RV uses this tactic at all stores, so don't believe ANYTHING until it is in writing. If their lips are moving, they are lying. read more

OK Everyone if your looking for a RV avoid this place like the plaque. I unfortunately bought a RV from them. BIG MISTAKE. First it was listed on craigslist and I found out it was actually in Arizona, the price was decent so I agreed that I would fly there and drive it home if they reimbursed the flight, no problem there, I got there and as soon as signing was complete the attitude changed immediately because I wouldn't take their astronomically priced warranty. I mean HOSTILE. Started heading home and needed gas after 150 miles of driving and the RV would not take gas unless it was a trickle, nice, a hour to fill up each time. There response, Oh well...bring it to Davis when you GET HOME. Then I find out a month later that I have to now pay California Tax (difference from AZ which is huge )separately even though I was promised they would make sure I didn't have to. I even filled out Registration papers at signing where did they go? LIARS. I call to complain and even sent them the proof of the conversation with there absolutely rude salesman Shawn Huitt, they still tell me, OH well. SO avoid this place like it's your job. They lie, have a attitude like they are doing you a favor, seems to be that way in all their locations since I have dealt with all them on the West coast. After I get the oh well screw you phone call from their customer service manager, I let him know I am a huge fan of leaving feedback online, he gives a sigh and says ok. So these people don't care about you or their image. I should have known when I was getting the huff and puff when I asked questions about the RV in the beginning, they are truly old school Car salesmen and don't care about anything but your money in their pockets, hope this saves someone the nightmare I just went through. Signed Deal, Switched RV, Repeated Misinformation -- Avoid This Location My experience with LaMesa RV (Mesa location) raises serious concerns about how deals are handled and communicated. I signed paperwork for a specific 2026 Thor Motorcoach Axis, left a $2,000 deposit, and was given a confirmed pickup date. When I showed up, I was told I wasn't scheduled and that financing terms had changed. After pushing back, they reversed course and told me the deal would be honored. Then it got worse. After completing orientation the next day, I discovered they had switched me to a completely different RV--without clearly disclosing it upfront. Different stock number, different vehicle. That is not a minor detail. From there, I was repeatedly told the RV would be ready for pickup: * It was sent to another location for repairs without clear communication * I was told it was ready--twice * I made multiple trips, including after work, only to find out it was not there At this point, it's not miscommunication--it's a breakdown in process and accountability. For a purchase of this size, this level of inconsistency is unacceptable: * Signed agreements not respected at first contact * Vehicle changed without proper transparency * Conflicting and inaccurate information across teams * Multiple wasted trips and hours lost This experience felt unreliable and, at times, misleading. I sent a complaint by email to complaint@lamesarv.com (supposedly email will be read and responded to) and of course I haven't heard anything from them... If you're considering buying here: verify everything in writing, confirm the exact VIN and location before showing up, and do not rely on verbal commitments. I was a returning customer. Dear La Mesa RV, we made lemonade, but not with your help... Purchased a new 2017 Tiffin Phaeton 40AH in January 2017 from La Mesa RV Quartzsite. It took 4 months but we finally now have our coach to where it should have been when we received it. To give credit due, the original sales and finance staff were professional. However, the delivery/service was awful, either intentionally or the result of a chaotic/understaffed environment. The PDI and walk-through were haphazard and incomplete. We were subsequently forced to leave the dealership location prematurely with major defects dismissed as "normal". Inspection of coach several weeks later at a FMCA rally in Chandler, Arizona by Tiffin and La Mesa technical staff mandated coach be returned to the factory for repair of two slide issues and a buckling porcelain tile floor.. Round trip of 5,000 miles Lodi, California to Red Bay, Alabama for repair was covered out-of-pocket by us. La Mesa RV customer relations denied reimbursement for expenses despite acknowledging that they should "make it right". The Phaeton is a wonderful coach. We are now "happy campers". However, if I had to do it again I would buy the coach and take delivery from a dealership that is close to the Tiffin factory in Red Bay, Alabama. The advantages would be lower cost, proximity to the factory during the initial discovery period and presumably a more ethical dealership. If so inclined one can also observe the coach being built on the assembly line. Based on our experience with pre-delivery inspection and repair we will not be using any La Mesa RV facility for service. read more

We're from western Canada and finally made it out to the Las Vegas area where we could find finally dump our "winter antifreeze" and have water in our coach. However, we had a myriad of problems that we needed to have serviced. When we phoned we found there was nearly a two week waiting list. Undaunted we went to the Mesa shop, camped on their doorstep overnight and next morning we sent in my petite wife who managed a tear in her voice pleading for help. Big Bill from the Service department came out and boomed "Little lady, let's have a look" Within minutes he ascertained that the leak streaming down our exterior was really a disconnected fridge water line that led to a non-functioning ice-maker, then advised us that a malfunctioning electronic stove lighter could be installed by ourselves if we purchased a new part (saving us at least $100 precious US dollars (we were paying $1.46 Canadian for ONE US dollar). Finally a troublesome tow-car hitch had to be replaced, necessitating an over-night stay on their lot with complimentary 50 Amp electricity, while the offending part was shipped from California for next day installation. Add to this excellent service (bear in mind no wait while an endless stream other RV units descended on this facility ) the fact that complimentary lunch was given without charge. We'll gladly attest to the A-1 character of LaMesa to anyone read more
