Look at the picture of the perfectly faced shelves... that's the whole store! Friendly staff furiously cleaning and capable cashiers. Such a better experience than a big box grocery store. Plus I get to practice my Spanish. Read the other 5 stars and ignore Ana M. and that 1 star BS. It's a marketa! Not a neo-authentic hipster gastro pub. I laugh to think of them carrying egg whites on hand just in case someone wants a no yolk taco once a year.

Best little Market in all of south Austin...literally.

WTF...WHAT THE FUN!!! What grocery store's run out of ice. Well, I'll tell you. Two major…read moregrocery store chains and a retailer grocery in downtown Austin had no ice. How is this even possible? Could it be because we were in downtown Austin? One of my friends speculated that it was because they had a University of Texas game yesterday and they needed ice for tailgate parties. Really!? Seriously?' There is no empirical evidence supporting this assertion. If that was case, why could they not know the schedule. Well, I ended up buying ice at a higher price from a gasoline station...don't remember the name. Am I raging about the difficulty of finding ice? Nope! In retrospect, it is rather humorous that so many places were out of ice simultaneously. If all of the ice went to fun pursuits, I'm good with the icecapades (case of the missing ice). Lesson learned: Buy ice in my neighborhood before heading downtown Austin.

Apparently, not realizing this page already existed. Anyway, covering all my bases and doing a review here as well. Note: I've also suggested an edit for the duplicate businesses. Ok now that is out of the way. Review time: I really love this location so much. The store is huge with wide aisles making it easy to navigate compared to the smaller stores. Even if it's crazy busy on a Sunday afternoon you can still get to the items you need with ease. The store is still very clean and of course modern since the rebuild. Employees are friendly. The shelves are stocked fully 99.999% of the time. I live extremely close to the East 7th Street store (5 min away) and opt for this location time and time again.

I live nearby and I go here every few days. The place suffers a bit from being downtown (higher…read moreprices and unkempt people outside) but on the whole they do fairly well. Contrary to another review, they usually have fresh fruit on hand; bananas in a basket and prepared fruit cups. They have a fair selection of beer, wine, soft drinks and coffees. They have sandwiches and other prepared food (e.g. giant $4 burritos) in the cooler. One time I had to ask for toilet paper and the guy brought it out from the back room. I suppose it took up too much space on the shelf. This is the alternative to Royal Blue, which has even higher prices, although Royal Blue makes some food in-house. On the whole, I prefer Second Street because Royal Blue has a weird vibe and some weird brands and this place is a regular store.

It was in close proximity to…read moreboth my hotel and the Austin Convention Center, and without a car sometimes it was just easier to walk down the street instead of Lyft to a store or restaurant. Honestly unremarkable. An independent convenience store that knows it can charge more because of where it is. The staff were friendly enough, but the stock was kind of limited. That might be due to so many people being in town that week but they seemed to run out of drinks fairly quickly. It's also no fault of the store but it's worth mentioning right in front of their doors seems to be a popular hangout for Austin's homeless. I don't think we managed a single visit here without being asked for change. If you need a quick snack they are in a great location, just don't expect an overly pleasant visit.

I found some produce products that were more of a bargain than at the larger supermarket down the street. One thing that I had been waiting for was to try their breakfast tacos which were absolutely divine. For a dollar and some change it's a great size! As I noticed other people gathering around the hot food line, I couldn't help but decide on getting a plate. I picked up the ranchero bisteak and chicken Tinga and for my two sides, I decided on the plantains and nopales. Both of the meats I decided on were extremely delicious in flavor and the beef was exceptionally tender. I got red and green salsa and it appears that the red salsa is a tad bit creamy, which is not something I've had many times before. It was unique and extremely tasty. As for the green salsa, I have yet to try, but I am sure it won't disappoint. I do want to give this place praise because I have passed it up before, but it is not a place to be looked over. There's so many other goodies in here that you won't find at a regular grocery store so it's definitely worth coming inside and checking out especially if you just want something to do. The people were so nice exceptional customer service. There is seating if you want to eat inside and they were playing good music. I almost forgot to mention how exceptional the sides were. Often times people mess up nopales, but these were delicious.
