Taco Plate
Brielle P.

Taco food truck located at meanwhile brewery. The ladies working were super nice and friendly. Food was ready quickly. You did get a lot of food with the meal but I felt it was a bit pricey. The tacos I got (chicken and al pastor) lacked flavor. The beans were flavorless mush and the rice was well cooked but again not much flavor at all. They did have sauces you could add on and I wish I had done that to put on my meal. The kids menu for 7.99 was a pleasant option for my 1 year old who really enjoyed the tortilla with chicken and cheese.

Mediocre Mexican food at Meanwhile Brewing with the other food trucks. I had a steak taco, rice and beans. Refried beans were flat, rice was bland, taco was okay, steak inside was fine. Chips were good, queso a little watery and at $9.95 for a small boat of chips with queso seems a bit steep. Tacos run about $6, service is quick.

Outstanding music venue/ Biergarten Great Oracle seating Will definitely be back another time

lettuce in burrito-not listed in ingredients

First-It's rich the St Elmo location isn't even listed as an option here. Part of my problem is with them being unclear it is at the brewery, not the district. I ordered online and when I saw I placed an order 1/2 an hour away from me I called immediately to try to have them not make it so I could go to a closer location. Nobody answered and when they finally did, order was ready 5 mins ahead of time a they refused to accommodate. VERY annoying. Then after driving almost an hour round trip out of my way to pick up my food-THERE WAS LETTUCE IN THE BURRITO. Lettuce not listed as an ingredient or I would've asked them to leave it off/ordered something else. I emailed to let them know how disappointed I was with the entire experience and nothing. So here is my "rave" review. So incredibly disappointing all around.

Loved the food. Ambiance is outdoor picnic style. The service is they text you when your food is finished and you order at the taco truck window. The habanero salsa was perfect who loves the salsa to burn their whole face, like myself.

Had a mini taco platter with lamb barbacoa which had a rich lamb aroma but I felt could use a bit more salt. However the line and salsa did help give for flavor. Note that you can't mix and match fillings for the mini taco plate. The food did take a bit of a wait but they text you when your food is ready and you can chill at Meanwhile.

Now I enjoyed my food but my brother did not. I ordered the lamb Barbacoa taco and a carne asada Gordita. Great flavors and huge portions. The tacos could've been a little more tender and had a bit more seasoning. Also that goes for the service if you catch my drift.

Taco Bueno and Taco Nes

Went there on the Labor Day (thanks for being open, Pueblo Viejo). Long line, but it moved pretty fast! I ordered my usual favorite, Taco Bueno and Taco Nes. Both were delicious, consistent as other locations I've tried. Their ghost habanero salsa elevated my tacos to next level. When your order is ready, they texted you so people don't need to hover around the trucks. Appreciate that since it's hot out! Pueblo Viejo is still my favorite taco place in Austin.

My wife and I were in Austin for a long weekend and i ordered the fish tacos and al pastor taco. The fish taco was one of the best grilled fish tacos I have ever had. It was ready in about 5 minutes but their salsas were weird. They were more like dressings instead of salsa. The ghost was spicy, but not crazy hot and I like the jalapeno. The chips and guac looked great as well. I didn't try them, but it looked fantastic! The atmosphere of the brewery was wonderful and during COVID, the outdoor seating was huge. Dog friendly and super nice people serving the beer. Totally try this place!

I love tacos and I also love Pueblo Viejo! This food truck is parked at the Meanwhile Brewery and is a happening place to be in Southeast Austin. I've had Pueblo Viejo at different locations through the city over the last 10 years so and I was delighted to see them pop up at Meanwhile. Lately I'm loving the Quesadilla tacos and chips and queso. It's been my go to order for several weeks now. They are open early for breakfast tacos as well, which I'd recommend trying. Their selection of hot sauces is impressive too. If tacos aren't your thing, no worries, they offer all kinds of other Tex Mex plates to choose from and it's all good! You can't go wrong with Pueblo Viejo especially when you're re chilling at Meanwhile sipping on a beer and watching you kids play on the playground!

The Al Pastor mini tacos were flavorless. The chicken tacos were fine. A forgettable experience. Few options on a Monday.

I ordered 2 steak tacos and horchata, both very delicious. The horchata is milky and sweet but not crazy sweet, and topped off with cinnamon. The steak tacos came out pretty hot, fresh from the grill. I got them on corn tortillas and I'm glad I did: idk if they make them in house but somebody in some house is making these because they definitely aren't store bought, and if they are I want to know where! I tried the orange habanero and creamy serrano salsas. The habanero was spicy off the bat, while the serrano had more of a lingering burn. Both paired well with the steak. They have a little bar, too, though I did not imbibe this time. Seems like they have a decent selection of agave spirits, and even Campari behind the bar (iykyk). Give them a shot, and thank the ladies in the kitchen.

My late night jaunts in Austin have usually lead me to a number of late night spots, most of which…read morehas been food truck taquerias and cater to us hungry night owls in the local food scene. One such spot has been El Super Taco, which is east of I-35 and a stone's throw from the airport. While I wouldn't call their food super per se, I would note that they've been a solid option practically every time. (#1) The truck itself is parked at an old gas station, which they've converted to an outdoor dining space complete with parking and picnic benches for folks who want to chow down on the spot. During the pandemic they had built an where they take payment straight through a window and of course, it's cash only. The wait isn't too long for the food and during their heydey, the tables were usually filled with people. At 2AM, not so much. Unlike the Houston taco scene, they have asada (#2) as one of their choice meats, followed by pastor, barbacoa, cecina, pollo, chicharron, campechano, and deshebrada. The latter is a shredded beef that has been one of their best sellers and is not commonly found at most taco spots. Their barbacoa and pastor are good, but they are commonly sold out before their night is over. They also have breakfast tacos during select times of the day, and that's do a very good huevos based taco with nopales or tocino or salchipapa or the classic chorizo and/or spinach. The tortas, sopes, quesadillas, and sincronizadas are worth considering, but the gorditas and tostadas are very underrated. Speaking Spanish isn't required (#3), it is helpful. The staff is quite good about expediting the food, especially when there is a line. It hasn't been a problem during their later hours and there's been plenty of seating. Lastly, I recommend taco selfies for that sick mural. Most taco stands / trucks won't have something that artistic, so I recommend taking advantage of it while it's still here. ___________ (#1) Consistency and reliability. It matters in life and in tacos. (#2) Seriously, what's the deal with the meat "fajita" in Houston? (#3) Welcome to Austin!

Service The guy working the truck seemed to be high while taking our orders and making food. That must explain why tacos are $7, they were decently large and that runny age was good. It also took ages to make and get our food. I know vegan food does tend to take longer because of the care process, but this was another level. They did not call our names when the food was ready and it took ages. We even came to check on our food a few times and it was not ready. Ambiance Food truck in the middle of an empty lot. Waah. Development…read moreand gentrification are destroying the great food truck courts of First Street. Many of the finest ones have either closed or are draining out. What's the issue? Landlords want the land to build new high density apartment buildings. * * * Double Waah. The Bouldin Creek Food Park is still around. Bouldin Creek Food Park is probably the worst of the traditional First Street food courts. It is the northernmost of the First Street food courts - the one nearest to Palmer Auditorium and downtown. It is on a teeny tiny strip of land between First Street itself and the gulch of East Bouldin Creek. The lot is too narrow and oddly shaped to permit high density development. So the landlords are going to leave this place alone. Just as there is precious little room for development, There is also precious little room for the food trucks and the parking. So simply from lack of space, the customers sit practically on First Street itself. The eating tables get the full blast of First Street traffic. The eaters get the noise and the carbon monoxide. They also get the uncompromising blast of the Austin summer sun There is one exception to the rule. If you look carefully, you will find exactly one table in the back that is rustic, quiet and pretty. The East Bouldin Creek Gulch runs there. The gulch has lots of shade and really nice rock cliffs. Picnic heaven? No such luck. The back is where they dump the detritus and spare junk from the food trucks. The back has pallets, framing and extra plastic bottles the carts don't have room for. You are in a eating in a trash pile, a shady trash pile but still a trash pile. * * * Life gets more interesting if you have to go to the bathroom. The bathroom literally is a porta-potty. To be fair, they empty it frequently, so it is not too gross. However, there is no running water to wash your hands after you do your business. Not being able to wash your hands is not great if you intend to eat food afterwards. * * * If the food trucks were absolutely marvelous, one might tolerate the bad location and set-up. The trucks they have are run of the mill. Dawa is better than run of the mill. The rest are ho hum. All of these trucks would be more pleasant in a nicer location. Mueller for example would be a huge promotion for any of them. If you have a food truck you adore, and Bouldin Creek is where it happens to be, all power to you. Enjoy your meal. Enjoy watching the cars drive by. Be sure to go to the bathroom before you leave the house.

Lemonade was fresh and free refills. This was a plus for us because we are used to being charged for each refill with competitors in the Austin area. The staff here all friendly, very welcoming, and they are very attentive to your needs. I am planning on coming back again with more colleagues and bring my family here one day.

Boy do I wish it had been a drinking day when I was at Mezcal and Salt!…read more * * * Mezcal and Salt is a nicely furnished midscale Mexican restaurant on Montopolis Drive. The clientele is working class but the room feels middle class all the way. By day the place gets tons of sunlight making it a cheery happy place. By night, there are colorful neon lights to keep the festive spirit alive. * * * The house specialty is Mezcal cocktails. They make no fewer than 10 of them. I have not seen any of these in any list of house drinks I have ever seen. Even though the establishment is called Mezcal and Salt, They only stock three kinds of Mezcal. I will make two ignorant guesses: a) Those three Mezcals are chosen because they have different tastes. The house cocktails use each of the three for specific purposes in making specific drinks. b) Those house Mezcal drinks are probably wonderful. The waitress bubbled enthusiastically about one of her favorites. I don't think she was giving a canned sales spiel. I think she meant it and she loves the drink. * * * There would be no reason for waitresses at Mezcal and Salt to ever need to give canned sales spiels. The establishment draws large crowds. At 3:30 pm on a Sunday towards the end of the Almeurzo del Domingo rush, there were still plenty of people in the restaurant. More importantly, new customers kept coming in. There is a giant vacant lot next to the restaurant with signs marking the lot as extra parking. A restaurant only buys a next door lot for parking if they really need it. * * * I was food only that day. What I had was a mix - but a mix that was good enough to make it easily worthwhile to come back. My chips and salsa were perfectly adequate but no great shakes. My ceviche tostada started as being no great shakes. But they had lime and bottled Salsa Victoria on the table. They had the lime and Salsa Victoria on the table for a reason. Once you put lime and Salsa Victoria on the tostada The tostada went from ho hum to great eating. I went from bored to in love. You don't blame a Southern restaurant for putting salt and pepper on your table and serving you under-salted food. You put on your own salt and pepper and then everything is perfect. The same applies with lime and Salsa Victoria here. It is part of the kitchen's plan. * * * I totally want to come back on an occasion when I can dig into those Mezcal drinks. Since I would have a long drive home, The rest of the plan would be eating my way through a decent chunk of their menu. * * * Any place that needs two parking lots to hold all their customers has to be taken seriously.
