I absolutely love this place! It is a small market, where you can pick up a bottle of wine, some beer, some food... They host a variety of products from local businesses like sweet bread, baked treats, ready to go meals, tacos etc. I like to stop here before work to pick up fresh brewed Katz coffee and Taco Deli tacos (Freaking Vegan tacos are ). I don't stop every day, but the days I do, I am just in such a good mood. I like that they open early, because I am a teacher. The owner of this place is super friendly! Impossible has joined forces to launch a new menu item, a mushroom burger, and are offering a buy one - get one free menu item deal. Project pollo is 100% plant-based! We got 2 burgers for $9 bucks! Best deal in town. We also bought some vegan-friendly chips and new limited edition coke flavor...starlight. There are several tables along the windows for eating as well as lots of picnic table outside. Great selection of wines and beers, but they also have beer and kombucha on draft. Cheapest jellyfish on draft in Austin- $6.99!! We will definitely be returning! My only gripe is the area has a lot of traffic and contruction, so it takes away from the surroundings. I love RiverCity Market. I live right across the street and Sam is always so welcoming. There's a real sense of community here. They have the best homemade chocolate chip cookies. Breakfast tacos: ive been doing egg, potato, chorizo and cheese w/ their green salsa and it makes my taste buds so happy. They cook the tacos to order. The potatoes are cooked in the chorizo grease . I don't know what happened to this place. The wife and I work close by so we've been in for lunch numerous times over the last 2 years or so. However, River City Market has really gone down hill. Went today for sandwiches, chips and bottled drinks (which somehow cost $30 - a lot for lunch). RCM no longer has any counter food items in the glass, so none of my favorite olives for me. I asked about why the case was empty and the guy at the register said, "No idea when the food there will be back." ...okay, not super informative or helpful. They still have desserts in the other case, but no more local pastries and treats; it's all pies and such that look like they were bought in bulk from Costco. Both of our sandwiches were bad. They've started using obviously packaged lunch meat (perfectly round) and my sandwich was falling-apart-soggy after a 5 minute trip back to work to eat it. The wife's club sandwich had no bacon, had extra lettuce (despite her asking numerous times for no lettuce and the guy clarifying), and to top it off, had so much pepper on it that she started coughing like crazy and refused to eat any more of it. We used to think of this place as a nice treat for lunch; it was always a little pricey but everything used to be really good and I loved the mixed olives with my sandwiches. Oh, y'all already knew this: I'm a Belgian-beer (and Belgian-style beer) nerd. So when I hear about a market specializing in one of my favorite vices, I grab my keys and go! As promised, the craft beer selection is deep and diverse. Didn't see as many Belgian-born imports as I was hoping for, but I did find a Belgian-style farmhouse ale that I use to frequently drink in Chicago: Goose Island's Sofie! Ol' Sofie girl alone is reason enough for me to return at least a couple of times monthly. Besides the beer, River City Market also stocks a wonderland of organic foods as well as difficult-to-find snacks and chocolates (including a few you'd typically only find overseas). If you're looking to put together a meal at the 11th hour, look no further; RCM's prepared gourmet section has you covered. And dessert? Macarons in a medley of flavors like bourbon vanilla, pistachio and classic lemon... I love the delicately exquisite flavor and texture of macarons; I'd say these were slightly overchilled because the texture was a bit chewy. These shelves house wine, too! It isn't the biggest selection, but I did some browsing and it seems pretty well-curated. I picked out a juicy Shiraz and I'm looking forward to trying it... tonight! Parking can be a bit tricky, so I recommend avoiding visits around rush hour. read more

This is the sister of the Like Oak Market. It's the more high maintenance, and polished sister.. Try the turkey, bacon, and basil panini. Craft beer selection is great but I miss the tub in front where you can buy singles. I know, they're catering to the condo dwellers in SoCo. They've added a fresh pastry section too with beautiful cakes, pies, and macaroons. Lots of local products, snacks, etc. I still prefer the L.O.M. but they've done a good job at creating something similar for a different market. I think it's going to work. I will make this short. My coworker picked up a sandwich for me which ended up consisting of basil and bread. I called because this is not the first time my orders been wrong and I'm not eating basil and bread. The response I got on the phone from the manager "Nancy" was not only unprofessional but rude. After being told she knows my coworker "pretty well", she proceeded to tell me that's what I (she) ordered. No. She ordered a caprese sandwich. no tomato, add avocado. I'm actually more mad at the fact you would and continued to argue with me about it. They did give me my money back... $7. For basil and bread. That was it for me and I can't say I'm sad. This is the best little grocery store in town. Small neighborhood businesses like this are what bring the local economy up and don't make going to the corner store a chore, its rather a pleasure. It's on par with Live Oak Market (same owners btw, which makes sense, because everything about these places is awesome). People are very very friendly, and make you feel at home right out of the bat, which is very important to me. The food is incredible. The beer selection is out of this world. They carry beers you wouldn't normally see at a small grocery store/deli. I've had their breakfast tacos and sandwiches, and they are amazing. They serve them all day!! read more

As some other reviewers have said, I want to preface this by saying, over and over again RiverCity market has been a great little stop for me. Breakfast tacos, craft beer, specialty foods, good coffee...they have it all...except, on this day, good service. After trying to order an iced cold brew, that is on the menu, with soy, the manager asked me if I wanted it diluted or a latte. I wanted neither, so I asked her to clarify, to which she just said "okay," and proceeded to take my boyfriends order. The service I received was just not okay. Now, all that aside, I will probably go in again one of these days, far in the future, but for now I'm still trying to process what she was talking about. This is a perfect addition to South Congress. It's the perfect Austin convenience store. They have a huge selection of beer and wine, featuring a lot of local companies. They also have snacks galore, a good selection of organic food, plus a deli where you can order sandwiches, breakfast tacos and the like. I also noticed a little outside deck area if you want to hang out and munch away. There are also MACAROONS. What the heck. Seriously I walked in to grab a bottle of wine because I didn't want to venture into a grocery store, and ended up walking out with four different types of french macaroons. And they were so delicious. Awesome job River City. I have been telling everyone I know in the SoCo area about you and will definitely be back soon. read more

I'm pretty sure that dentists must hate this place because the amount of amaze-balls-sugary confection of candy and sweets tucked away in the nook and crannies of RiverCity Market will give you cavities just looking at them. Having said that ladies if it's that time of the month you've found your spot. Various forms of chocolate, Haribo candy galore (gummy peaches anyone?) plus retro looking stuff I've only seen at Big Top Candy shop can be found here. Oh, and Dublin sodas plus other niche brands of 'sugar only' sodas in bottles in the coolers. But there's more. So much more. RiverCity has a full kitchen, meaning they cook up some really great fresh, homemade food each and every day. Everybody raves about their breakfast tacos which are served all day long and at $2.50 are a good value. Don't feel guilty that you aren't buying those tacos from a trailer. In addition they have cooler filled with other selections not unlike what you would find at a grocery store. I will reference other Yelp user reviews for the list of craft beers they carry but let's just say for a smallish convenience store it's pretty great. Wine selection is nice too. I know I've made it sound like this place is very unhealthy but in reality they have a lot of really healthy stuff too like kale chips, teas, organic blah blah blah and a cooler that carries fresh salads and fruit. Parking is limited but available in a tiny lot. Don't get killed pulling back out on to Congress Ave as this area is busy. read more

Everytime I drive up and down Congress, I always was curious about the building with Coffee, Beer & Wine, Groceries on the side of the wall. After work, I decided to try it out. I wasn't really in the mood to go into a grocery store. A small store would do. When I came there after work, it wasn't crowded. Parking lot was small and I was fortunate to find a spot. I was coming down with something and I just needed a few things. I was impressed with the selection of organic food and products you would find at Central Market or Wheatsville - Seventh Generation, Kombucha, Method, Lick Ice Creams...etc. So then, I ended up with a few more things than I wanted. I get ready to check out my items then lo and behold, the pastry counter! My God, macarons on one row, carrot cake and other kinds of cake on the next row. They didn't need those items you see at the checkout counter such as candy bars and tabloid magazines. The just used those pastries and I was very tempted. It didn't work this time around. Ha! But when I go back, it's not going to be a pretty site. Anyway, it's worth a visit. So go in their and get your good food and groceries done all in one spot. read more

What a nice little store with the friendliest staff. Its a shame that its storefront isn't visible when traveling southbound on Congress, and instead you see their ugly loanshark neighbor. But, once you know it is there and what a gem it is, its hard to pass up. I love nearby Farm-to-Market, but there are a lot of things that RiverCity Market does better than them. For one, milk prices are not insane. For two, their hours are much better - closing at midnight wins my heart. Every time I think to go to FtM it's already closed. They have a pretty small selection of produce, though, and opt for a huge selection of beer, wine, and cool sodas. If you want to buy fancy liquids - this is the place. I was a little shocked by the price of some other things though, like eggs, frozen meals, ice cream. I understand they are running a small place and need to mark things up higher than HEB, but some items are like 300%, and that's insane. At a minimum, I just want to be able to walk in, get some frequently-replaced staples (milk, bread, eggs, tortillas, pasta, cheese), avoid the mass chaos and time-suck that is the HEB just hundreds of feet away, but without paying substantially more for those basics. They're close, but not quite there yet to earn that 5th star. Lastly, their tacos are delicious, as is the beet salad. read more

I had to write an update because I wrote my first within days of their opening. This place is awesome and I'm so glad it's around. Every time I go in, they have something new. I feel completely comfortable knowing that if I have somehow messed up and my kitchen pantry is empty at 11PM, I can safely meander across the street and get something to eat that is actually healthy and good (or, conversely if I am craving the most unhealthy ice cream ever or the best pear cider around... they'll have that too). Staff is incredibly friendly and there's definitely been a few times where I've gone in at the end of a long day feeling tired and miserable and exhausted with everything and everyone and left smiling because whoever was working was so polite. read more

River City Market boasts a name that incites feelings of a mediocre grocery store, one that offers the neighborhood with a smidgen of fresh fruit and milk, or maybe a convenience store in some South Austin suburb. What you actually get here gives some true local flare to your shopping cart. The beer selection affords you many different brews from different institutions, though the wines are a bit limited--with such a small shop, it is certainly difficult to maintain a full-blown wine program. In the deli, you will find a small spread of cold goods, and they also source some pastries and the like. Breakfast fare affords you a quick stop, and sammies reign supreme during the lunch rush. As you can tell, RCM is a jack of all trades, master of none. I work at CVS across the street and I've been eating here on my lunch break EVERY DAY. The pulled pork sandwich is my favorite thing here and the workers pretty much know me (and my order) by name. The people who work here are very cordial, polite, and super friendly. I always feel welcome when I call to make my order and when I walk in. The market has a bunch of stuff other than food obviously but I never had the time to shop around. They do have a decent selection of wine. Our old company office used to be right down the street from this place. A gem hidden away in Austin, as most places are. Though I'm not a beer drinker myself, i was always impressed with the variety the shop kept. The staff was always friendly, got to know us on a first name basis and even knew what our orders were before we even ordered! Breakfast Tacos are also amazing! Our company has since moved down S.Congress, so the Market is no longer walking distance away, but when I can, I still stop by and get a couple breakfast tacos and catch up with the staff. read more

A welcome sight to South Congress area. No H.E.B. sized lines here. Great deli foods and damn near every Main Root product on tap. The friendly staff are always taking in ideas and open to suggestions. As a new business it may be hard to feel out potential regular customers. That fact that they are open to feedback is a welcoming feature. They have THE best beer selection. A great way to avoid the crowds at Whip In. All varieties of tea, soda, and local products make this little market a new favorite. River City Market's hours are great as well. Came here looking for prepared salads for a quick, late dinner in our hotel room. The selection very limited (compared to full size grocery stores). There was a fish option but they looked old and dry. We ended up getting lasagna ($3.99/piece), tomato/mozzarella salad (small container (~1/2 lb) was a little over $5), and green beans with julienned carrots (~$4)). Pros: - vegetables were fresh - the green beans & carrots were cooked just right (hate overcooked vegs) - the salad of tomatoes and mini balls of fresh mozzarella was good. Cons: - lasagna was heavy on the noodles, too light on the meat sauce and cheese. - Fresh basil instead of dried herbs would have been an improvement on the tomato mozzarella salad read more

I've only had one sandwich here, because it was the first one I had, and the best one ever, so I never felt like I needed to branch out. Some day, maybe, but for now the B.A.T. is the best damn riff on a BLT I've ever had. Seriously - I salivate just thinking about this sandwich. Bacon, avocado, and turkey, and other secret magic stuff, served hot on multigrain bread. So good. Sometimes the wait time on the making of this sandwich is randomly long, even if there's no one else in the store which I haven't figured out yet. I've been meaning to review this place for awhile now. It's the best thing to happen to my hood in a long time! I live spitting distance from here, so it's my go-to for beer, wine, coffee, or whatever I might have a late night urge for. Love the late hours. Products are all excellent quality (and prices reflect that :). Their breakfast tacos are a best-kept secret. You can wait in line for 30 minutes at Torchys, or head into City Market for some super super tasty, freshly made grub. We're talking amazing house-made salsa, cooked up fresh while you wait for 3 minutes or so. The staff are awesome, too.
