I am a big fan of La Michoacana. I always used to go to the Odana road location. Visiting this place for the first time. I went for a 3 scoop ice cream - gansito, eggnog with raisins, pistachio. Eggnog and raisins was a flavor they proposed and it was good. Pistachio was a good flavor as well. Generally gansito is my favorite flavor. But here the gansito had freezer burn. I also went for strawberry and cream. It was cream poured over cut strawberry. Good to try once. read more

Went in with my wife and got a waffle cone with pistachio ice cream, a mangonada, and a choconana. There was one employee and it took her several minutes to help the two people in front of us, which I do not fault her for. The food was ok, wife liked the pistachio ice cream. After getting back into our car, a man in the car next to me tapped on my window and said something in Spanish, which was too fast for me to understand. He had his friend tell me in English that someone inside wanted to speak to us. It felt suspicious, so we waited for him and his friend to leave before going back in. Once we got back into the store, we had to wait several minutes again to speak to the employee. After telling her in English, what happened she said she does not understand English. Luckily, I speak Spanish like a six year old and was able to tell the general idea of what happened and how we were very confused. She went into another room to speak to somebody else, came back, and did not address us. I asked if there was a problem and she said someone would come talk to us. We sat at a table for three minutes and nobody spoke to us, so we decided to leave. Both of the stores are stellar in my book and pump out the best palets and ice cream in the Midwest! Come here for the most decadent ice cream in the land, and that says a lot about life in Wisconsin. The Cajeta, dulce de leche de cabra, is goat's milk toffee ice cream and is extremely rich and creamy. The paleta/popsicle, has a center of said toffe and nothing like I have ever experienced before. I have purchased many gift certificates for coworkers to expose people to this places that they would not have known about it. They also offer shakes, fruit snacks, nachos, juices, fruit filled popsicles with chile, etc. Get here and try somthing new. read more

I came here with my wife on her birthday for a little treat. It was a great decision, and we had a real nice mid-afternoon snack. The location is right off E. Wash, in a nondescript strip mall, There were a ton of options, so I asked what they were known for. I was told the Mangonada. Sign me up. My wife got a cup of strawberry. The mangonada was sweet, refreshing, and spicy. My wife said her ice cream was awesome and full of flavor. The one gripe that we had was it felt like the space needed to be cleaned. When we were there, only one person was working. All the tables seemed to have some sort of garbage/stickiness on them. They could have probably used someone else, especially on a warm Saturday afternoon in June to help manage the space. Regardless, we'll definitely go back. read more

This find was a true gem. There were a lot of flavors of cream and popsicles to choose from. I chose pistachio and it was so fresh tasting, like an actual pistachio; not the fake pistachio flavor you usually get. My daughter had a piña colada popsicle that was basically amazing. I am sad that I am just now discovering the joys of Mexican ice cream at the tail end of summer. What distinguishes this place from other ice cream stores is the abundance of unique fruit flavors and the lack of chocolate flavors (which, frankly, is a overrated flavor for the unadventurous). If you're into trying new things, the queso and tequila flavors are both outstanding (they'll give you a sample if you're afraid of committing to a whole scoop). The fruit flavors are made with real, whole fruit, and do contain seeds (if you get the guava flavor, watch out, because the seeds are tiny and numerous). A double scoop in a waffle cone is a little under $5, and they do take card. Can't wait to come back and try other flavors. read more

This shop was a great find for us during our trip to Madison for the weekend. They have a wide assortment of flavors of ice cream, Popsicles, as well as small food items. I got 2 scoops: Goat's milk toffee and coconut, and my friend got 2 scoops: Bubble Gum and Pistachio. All four flavors were absolutely wonderful. The women working were very nice. I really love this place and keep going back. There is quite a variety of things to try on their menu and there are still things that I want to try yet (popsicle flavors that are less common to find like black sapote, sorbet, savory food items...). My current favorite for the ice cream is the gansito, which is a cake with strawberry jelly that is covered in chocolate. The ice cream is really good! They've also got yogurt parfait and other items too like Mexican fruit salad (fruit - pineapple, cucumbers, mango, banana etc.) with a sweet salty sour sauce (can't remember what it's called) and Tajin chili lime seasoning. I think, like Paradise Island Mexican treat shop in Monona, they have other street food too (chicharron etc) can't remember. Only been there twice, but was good and everything I saw looked good.
