Al Pastor was fresh and delicious

THIS IS A GEM. I thought google disappointed took me to fast food chicken next door, but kept going and found THE CUTEST family owned shop with bright and playful decor, and the most amazing hand made popsicles. Also had the Al pastor chicken quesadilla with flavorful and juicy chicken. The owners working tonight were friendly and kind, and they went out of their way to tell us more about how they learned their mother's recipes. Can't wait to bring my 8yr old nephew!

La Michoacana Popsicle World, located next to KFC off of hwy 65/Ulysses, just opened a month ago, and I've only heard good things about it. I've been craving birria tacos, so I decided to give them a try for Sunday lunch. I was the only customer in the place, but the decor/ vibe is ready for a crowd. I was helped right away at the counter by a lady, but she was helped another gentleman, Felipe. I'm guessing he's the owner. He translated my order from English to Spanish. During my order, I was given samples of the Aqua Fresco drinks. The first one looked like pink milk and had hints of cinnamon. Then I tried both the lemon and original. The original was sweeter than the lemon. I chose to order a lemon because it reminded me of lemonade with a hint of cucumber. Tart, sweet but light. On the way to pay at the end of the counter, I passed by a long freezer filled with popsicles. So many varieties! I chose Mint Oreo. While I was waiting for my order to be made, I chatted with Felipe. He asked how I heard of the place (Blaine resident FB group). They've only been open for a month and are still struggling to get the word out. They have started with a limited menu and have plans on expanding once business picks up. Plans include a breakfast menu (I sampled Mexican bread his wife had just made. Dense, chewy, flaky. White sugar on top, some spice that reminded me of nutmeg??) and a street taco counter. This would be similar to Chipotle, where the tacos are made in front of you on a line, vs back in the kitchen like my order was today. During our convo, Felipe said everything is made from scratch, in-house. He had met with Cisco foods, and they were trying to sell him frozen tamales and many other dishes. But he said no, that's not authentic to defrost and reheat. At this point, he knew I was a Yelper. He also let me try beef skirt steak (thin, chewy yet tender, with hints of lime) and menudo (beef soup. Reminded me of chicken noodle soup. Would be really good during winter.) Felipe did say it is a Christmas tradition to have menudo on his family's table. Everything I tried had tons of flavor! My order came up, and I headed home. I ordered the birria tacos. Came with limes, radishes, green salsa, and consummé. By the time I dug into them 20 mins later, they were a little bit soggy, but that's on me. I bet they would have been even better if I ate them in the dining area. Sis ordered the Carne asada tacos, and she approved. Hers also came with lime, green salsa, and another reddish-orangeish salsa. Mouth on fire by the time she was done. I split the lemon aqua fresco with her, and she liked it too. Mint oreo Popsicles will be a treat for later. It was a very enlightening visit, and I'm glad it gave them a try. I will definitely return to try more of their menu.

Unfortunately I was NOT impressed with this place. The popsicles 10/10. I wouldn't come here for the food. I had the Tacos Barria. They were... "okay" nothing worth the $15.99. My girlfriend had the chicken rice bowl. She picked at it and asked me to try it. Didn't have much flavor sadly. In conclusion the ambiance is kid centric and uplifting. "Cute" decor, popsicles were AMAZING.. The food was subpar. I was here for an hour and there was only one other person in the restaurant. A handful of walk-ins. One girl working in the back and I seen no other help. I don't see this place staying in business long with what they have currently going here.

Food was so good, service was great, and the restaurant is so cute! We got tacos, Mexican coke, and I got a mango popsicle.

I love Salena!! We've been waiting for this store to open and my friend was talking about mangonada. So I took her to the new location that recently opened up by my house. This restaurant is very colorful. There's a star arched at entry, I think it means everyone walking in is a star. They didn't have all the food options as listed on the screen, just taco and birria for now. The girl who helped us says to come back later on for more. The mangonada is delicious. I had to order an elote as well. Definitely recommend this place to check out.

The food is so good and very authentic. I had the street tacos with chicken and steak. Absolutely delicious! The service was amazing too, super nice staff. Come show them some love.

    Birria tacos

These are debatably the BEST birria tacos I've ever had. They were sooooo good. Perfect ratio, delicious flavor and crispy shells. Thrilled to have an excellent authentic taco place in Blaine! Will definitely be back!

Food 4/5 - This place has quite the spread of Mexican food and treats. The tacos and ice/popsicles were delicious. My favorite popsicle was the mint Oreo. Service/ Ambiance 5/5 - The ambiance of this place is super vibrant, fun, and has authentic music. The owners were extremely helpful and friendly. Definitely recommend for a fun night out!

The food was really good! Everything is halal. The staff was really nice and quick. Definitely will go again

This is truly a gem of a neighborhood Mexican restaurant that serves the local population greatly. I think they have very juicy meat inside their tacos and they offer abundant onion and cilantro to ensure a balanced flavor. Along with lime and sauce, the tacos just taste amazing. Specifically, the quesa birria taco, even though not like other tacos, taste very flavor and juicy, and I could not get enough of it. Their platters have abundant food in them, including rice, beans, meat, and sometime vegetables (unless just lettuce), and the prices are very reasonable. I have also tried their menudo, which they served only on weekends, and as much as it wasn't for me due to me not used to the meat in there, I still had to acknowledge that it was made in very authentic ways and I knew many others would enjoy it. Overall, definitely recommended to those that live in the northern metro! Nothing else to say other than authentic and flavorful Mexican food involved.

I ordered the Tripas taco extra crispy which is so good. I checked it before leaving and it was soft and chewy. I asked them to make it crispy and it came back the same. Then I started eating my enchilada when I got home. It was cold and the cheese was still shredded pieces. They didn't even bother to melt the cheese. I called and they asked me to bring it back. I have flown in from out of state and exhausted so I wasn't about to go back. I'm hoping it's a one off. I will try again with just the taco and see if it was just a bad cook.

Also had the Tres Leches ice cream and it actually had cookie pieces in it! Creamy and delicious as well. They had so many other fun ice cream things that I need to back for. Smoothies, half watermelon or pineapple filled with goodies, crepes, banana split and even Dubai chocolate strawberries! And for the salt munchies they have tacos, tacos in a bag, fries, elote and more! Spacious wide interiors, though not a lot of larger table seating. They had 2 patio tables outside as well. Desserts: I have only had a couple of the popsicles but they were delicious. I loved the cookies and cream and the tiramisu flavors. The frozen bananas look amazing and they have a variety of ice cream flavors (which another customer said 'you can't go wrong with any of them!') The fresh fruit waters look refreshing (hibiscus, horchata, etc.) I haven't been brave enough to dip in to the specialties yet, but they all look so fun and flavorful - mangonada, elotes / corn cups, crepes, nachos.... enough options to make your head spin! The tacos I had were just ok. I prefer pork tacos and they only offer beef, chicken and shrimp (and I believe a falafel taco!) Fries were tasty and service was great. The salsa here was very garlicky which I don't mind, but others may. I got the lunch fajitas. The chicken was very rubbery and had a lot of very hard, inedible chunks. There weren't any spices on the chicken or fajita veggies which made it taste charred from sitting on the hot dish. Service 4/5: there only seemed to be one person working, so it took him awhile to get to us. The food came out relatively quick, but if you're in a rush this may not be the best lunch spot. Ambiance 3/5: we sat on the side that was more open and it was cold, it felt like we were sitting outside. We all kept our jackets on. Overall, this place could use some improvements. From the moment you walk in, you're greeted with a diverse selection of dairy products, sodas, and snacks that you don't typically find all in one place. That variety directly stood out to me. Unlike many markets that focus on just one country, Loma Bonita offers a wide range of products from across Latin America, including El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and more. One area for improvement is pricing clarity. In some sections, particularly dairy, labels can be difficult to match to specific items. That said, the staff at the checkout counter is willing to assist with price checks. As you move through the store, the selection just keeps getting better: fresh cuts of meat, frozen goods from around the world, and ready-to-eat hot meals. There's even a paletero (ice cream stand) tucked near the back by the produce section. The produce department stands out for its range, availability and affordability. It's great to find items like culantro, yellow (ripe) and green plantains, papaya, guava, mango, nance, yuca, and malanga, along with standard produce. Having all this fresh and reasonably priced is a big plus. What is the reward of visiting Loma Bonita? Their restaurant food! I almost always leave with a "Burrito de Asada" or "Huarache de Asada". Everything is made fresh to order, though they also offer convenient grab-and-go options like whole chicken and Mexican rice. On weekends, the menu expands with items like menudo and tacos dorados, making it more enticing to visit. There are multiple Loma Bonita locations in the Twin Cities, and while this one may be smaller, it's still packed with great finds. Pro tip: For homemade tacos, get their fresh, handmade corn tortillas. They're a game changer!
