Looooooved my visit to Vivir! I spent half a day here and honestly I could've stayed longer. The energy of this space is just that good! First off, plenty of private on-site parking, which is always a win in the city. Inside, the space is stunning. Large windows line most of the walls, flooding the café with warm, natural light. There's an impressive variety of seating depending on your vibe--couches, high-top tables, standard tables, bar-style seating facing the gorgeous large windows, and even solo setups if you're craving true alone time. Thoughtful and inviting in every way. The service was equally lovely. Monroe, the barista who helped me, made a spectacular Iced Brown Sugar Honey Latte--so good I ordered a second after I finished my first one. He was happy to answer all of my questions about the bakery items, breakfast offerings, and the horchata lattes that caught my eye. I ultimately went with the Chicken Chilaquiles, and wow... that was absolutely the right move. The dish featured warm, juicy chunks of chicken breast over crispy fried tortilla chips, topped with fried eggs, sliced avocado, beets, cotija cheese, and tomatillo sauce. The sauce wasn't spicy, but had just enough gentle heat to balance the tanginess of the green tomato beautifully. I also appreciated that the chips weren't overly drenched, allowing each ingredient to shine. Crunchy, flavorful, satisfying, and filling--everything you want in a breakfast. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the apple empanada. It may have been a one-off, but mine didn't quite hit the mark. Flavor-wise, it was good and accurately described as a slice of fried apple pie. Where it fell short for me was the filling-to-dough ratio. The filling was very minimal and almost paste-like, likely due to being reheated rather than baked fresh that day. I would've loved a filling with chunks of apples or simply more filling overall. Overall, the morning/afternoon I spent here brought me so much joy. I loved that there was no time limit--I was able to get a ton of work done while sipping delicious coffee, enjoying a slow, satisfying breakfast, and soaking in the sunshine. Vivir is a space that truly works for so many occasions: solo time, catching up with friends, family visits, or settling in for a few hours. Such a cute coffee shop/cafe. I love the decor and chill vibes. When I stopped by the cafe side was technically closed but the staff on the Centro side told me I could look around & order cafe items via one of the table QR codes. On the door I seen they had caramel apple horchata as a seasonal drink so I got that. When you order you have the option to order from the cafe & Centro so we also got the shot of the moment. Ordered breakfast though a delivery service and I had the best experience the breakfast burrito arrived fresh and hot, very tasty although I needed a bit more spice so added the green siracha I had at home and that made it perfection! If you plan to sit on the patio be aware there is absolutely no cover. The first time we went we had to leave before we ordered because it was too hot for my partner and we had the dog with us so we couldn't go inside. The second time the weather was better. We went on a Friday around 1:09pm. There is a very small parking lot in the back, otherwise it is street parking. The patio is a little tight to be handicap accessible, but you could squeeze in. I can't comment on the inside because I didn't go in. My partner had the Burrito Max, he said it was really good. There was cheese toasted on the outside, which he liked. He even said "this is what I want a breakfast burrito to taste like". The server told us that it is named after the cook who would make it for himself, eventually it ended up on the menu. I had the Cemita sandwich without jalapeño. It was ok, a little dry. There was a thick slab of the cheese (which I was not expecting), a good amount of egg. I would have liked more avocado, and the sandwich was huge, I could barely eat half. The components are cooked separately then stacked. To order you scan the code at the table and order, then they bring the food out to you. Other than that there is pretty much no service, our waiter didn't even check on us. From what we heard Vivir and Centro are located next to each other, and are owned by the same people. They tried to give each of them a separate vibe. There is a cart outside so you can get your own water and leftover box. Our final cost was around $60 with a tip. I bit pricey, but not horrible. read more

Every Saturday, after the gym, I'm in search of either a good breakfast burrito, breakfast sandwich or breakfast tacos and when I looked what was nearby on Yelp, Vivir popped up. I didn't inspect the menu before heading over on a very cold morning, but since I've been to Centro for dinner, I figured the food would be pretty good. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted and asked if I needed help - asking for breakfast tacos, a very kind bartender explained that nearly everything could have eggs put on or in it. I looked quickly and decided to get the breakfast tacos, opting for bacon instead of chorizo. The tacos came out quickly and I'll just say the quality of the ingredients, nice blue corn tacos (two) with a good portion of scrambled eggs, pickled onions, large chunks of potatoes, and diced smoky bacon complemented by a nice salsa verde (green) sauce - these were no order breakfast tacos and they were very, very good. I decided to eat one at the bar and used some of the smoky, spicy hot sauce - at first I thought that was where the spice was coming from but it was actually the pickled onion! Vivir, or Centro, has some nice breakfast/brunch options - tortas, burritos and tacos, that you can add egg too for about $3. All-in, the price for my two tacos was $16 ($12 + $2 for bacon + tax), so it's not exactly cheap like other quick serve locations (think Rusty Taco or Fuzzy's) but then again, this is a little higher quality and turned into two meals for me. Parking is tight, as this is a busy place but you'll be able to find something within a block. There's a new dive bar opening right next door (connected) called Bina, which is named after Centro's owners grandparents - should be a good late night spot with lots of (healthy) fried food! read more

This place is so cute! It's attached to another restaurant called Centro. You order through the QR code and you can order off of the Vivir or the Centro menu. Since both menus are available I'm not sure why they even need two separate names? Centro is more of an evening menu and has alcoholic beverages and Vivir seems to offer breakfast options and coffee, cocoa and tea. I had the octopus tacos (delicious) and the guacamole. It was all very good. I was surprised that they charge between $4.50-6.50per individual taco, that seems to be a bit much compared to other similar spots. I want to mention that they don't have designated parking, but I guess that is normal for this part of Northeast. Overall, I enjoyed myself and would come back and recommend Vivir! read more

This place has excellent Birria tacos. My wife and I love stopping here after enjoying a drink or two across the street at Indeed Brewing. In that way, the location is excellent. You will usually have to take a few laps around the neighborhood to find some street parking. The restaurant is set up in Covid-style, where you can order from your phone at your table, and the staff will bring everything out to you. There is the option also to order at the counter now. Service is fast and friendly. Atmosphere/vibe of the restaurant is Latin-inspired hipster chic. It's hard to say in 2024 that this is a *hidden* gem, but honestly, my wife and I never miss an opportunity to eat here when we're in the area, and I don't think you'll be mad about making a trip. read more

Vivir is a trendy-ish restaurant in heart of North east with Mexican/Latin-American influenced cuisine. It share a space with Centro, but Vivir doesn't have table service. You either order at counter or on your phone at the table. The menu options were fairly simple. some vegetarian items, including the veggie empanadas which I ordered and arugula salad. The food was fine but not particularly notable. The salad was just a big pile of arugula drenched in a vinaigrette with a few preserved lemons. The empanadas were average. The thing that bothered me most was the addition of a 10% service charge what is not the tip so that they can pay their employees, but that is not the tip. The tip is added on top of that. If you want to pay your employees please just build it into the price of your food. And I'll be honest, tip expectations should be adjusted when the only thing the server does was drop the food off without interaction. Stopped by this place in Northeast yesterday with a few friends after finding it on Yelp and was very impressed. It shares a building with Centro which at the time I visited was packed while Vivir was almost completely empty which had me worried a bit at first. However, my worries were calmed as soon as I received my food. I ordered the Octopus Tacos which feature 2 tacos full of octopus, yuca, pineapple, radish, pickled onions, and cilantro on some freshly made tortillas. These were absolutely incredible. The combination of the savory octopus and yuca with the sweeter pineapple was incredible. I would be happy coming here weekly if it was closer. The place is one of those ones where you sit down, order on your phone, and then they bring it out to you. One of my only complaints is that there are only two tacos. I left a little hungry but comfortable. I'll definitely be back another time, highly recommend. read more

Viv!r is a great Mexican spot for breakfast or lunch. We stopped by on a slow weekday for lunch. Best thing first- loved the yuca fries! They were crispy and served with a Serrano ginger aioli that will have you scraping the bottom of the container. Their empanadas are also done very well. Parking: they do have a small parking lot in the back but there's also lots of street parking around the area. Service: service is great! You can seat yourself and order through the QR codes. Food comes out pretty fast. I've always had a great experience! Food: so GOOD! Their Crunchwrap is so much better because of the fresh ingredients. I loved their Mexican hot chocolate it was so rich and creamy. I got the veggie torta with egg and it was so well made! I think next time I would've gotten it with a salsa. My friend wanted someone to tag along with him to check out Vivir. Seeing that it's in the area of my gym, after the gym, I said why not. The restaurant set up is nice. It is in the same building as Centro, another restaurant. For dine-in: 1) You can order your food at the cashier and get assigned to a table where they bring your food to you, or 2) get assigned a table by the cashier and order through your phone. Water and clean up is self service. I got the Breakfast Tacos (2), Veggie Empanadas (2), and the Jarritos Sangria. The breakfast tacos order came with two tacos. They were good. You have the choice of adding a selection of meat (i.e. bacon) for extra charge, but I stayed with egg and veggies. The breakfast tacos were simple, and of good quality ingredients. The sauce complimented it well. The veggie empanadas were also good. The order came with a quantity of two as well. Flaky outside with cheesy inside. Also simple and of good quality ingredients. The sauce also added another component of flavor. I'm not a drink expert, but I'll just say the Jarritos Sangria was nice. Sweet and refreshing. My friend had the Torta and Yuca Fries. The Torta looked delicious. I tried the Yuca Fries and they were so good and addicting. Thick cut, slightly crispy outside, and fluffy inside. I'd say this is a must get. The white sauce added a nice creamy and flavorful touch. Overall, I like Vivir. A good looking location, nice people, and good quality food. Excited to give this place a try only days after opening, I was not disappointed. Pay attention to the menu. There is a breakfast menu that will end at 11am, and you cannot order past that time. I got stuck in the ordering system adding my credit card and lost my breakfast order. So, ended up having to order from lunch which was not our preference for the first meal on a Sunday. *This would have been a different review for me, based on this experience, however, the manager was cool. He introduced himself, apologized, started my order right away and saved a cupcake off to the side to ensure I got one to-go. I ended up switching to order a cemita sandwich, mole cupcake and a pan of unicorn guava rolls to-go. I added egg to the sandwich and it was amazing. The savory taste and texture with the creamy cheese was a great flavor profile. My family had so much fun decorating and eating the guava rolls! Don't forget to let them rise a bit more in room temp. before baking. The frosting is very sweet, so less is better, even though the colors are so pretty. Beautiful eatery and it has the best little gift shop. The donut I tried was amazing! It had a little crunch on the edges reminding you that it was fried in grease- THEE BEST! The blueberry icing on top to the flavorful cream inside...Speechless! Seriously the best donut I've tried in years! Why did I just get 1??? The dough in the Conchas was so soft and fresh! I'm gifting the cookies but they look amazing! I've only tried Tres Leches cake once before and not sure if it was authentic or not? This one tasted completely different. I picked up a very subtle cinnamon flavor in the cake or maybe nutmeg? It wasn't as spongy or overly sweet but was sweet enough. It left me wishing I had ordered tea. Ordered Chilaquiles to-go and they came WITHOUT salsa. At that point they are NOT chilaquiles but just tortilla chips with shredded chicken. Not even nachos at that point as they were COMPLETELY DRY. When I called back they told me their kitchen closed- and would issue me a refund, took down my information. This was in March and I never got refunded - called several times and was told a manager or someone would get back to me- never happened. Almost $40 down the drain as I left a nice tip before getting home a realizing the food wasn't made properly. Of course at that point I made my own salsa verde- but what a true disappointment that it was never resolved. I used to recommend this place but due to their business practices and lack of care with clients- I will no longer do so. One thing I love about this place is that you get two amazing restaurants right next to each other. I'm sure we've all heard of Centro, but this is their new restaurant concept. The interior is absolutely stunning, I love the little market they have in there alongside with the misc gifts you can get. This is more of a self service restaurant. You order up front, grab a number and table, and they'll drop off your food and drink when it's ready. Service was also fast and friendly. Now onto the food... the Chorizo Torta was really good. Very simple ingredients, but the guac and chorizo alone provided plenty of flavor to the Torta. My favorite part was probably the yuca fries, the sauce was super good and not runny. As for the duck tacos, holy cow that was yummy. The duck was cooked in its own fat (aka confit) and pairing it with the pickled onions was a very smart move. From what I can tell, all the dishes look very simple, but all the ingredients used were very well made and you can tell that they perfected their recipes and everything was well tested before putting on the menu. My only complaint is that there's not enough meat in the tacos (compared to their sister restaurant, Centro). Aside from the food and atmosphere, the location was perfect! Came here for breakfast after work. I had gone to Centro several years ago, but remembered the experience not being all that impressive, but I decided to give the place a second chance. Parking is kind if crummy. Street parking is sparse, and there's very limited parking availability in the lot behind the restaurant. However, at the hour, the restaurant was pretty empty, so parking wasn't as bit of a problem compared to if you were to go there at a more busy time, like dinner. Ordered the Burrito with barbacoa, beef birria tacos, veggie empanadas, and refried beans and queso. I have to say, the food was disappointing for the most part. The burrito was nothing to really write home about. For $13.50, I would have expected a bit more flavor with the fillings. I attempted to spice up the burrito, but all that was available in terms of salsa was bottled El Yucateco Salsa that completely overwhelmed the burrito. It was overall filling, but the burrito wasn't really satisfying. The only good thing about the beef birria tacos was the consome. It had a decent amount of kick and a surprisingly good amount of flavor. The lime squeezed into it kicked the flavor up a notch. However, the tacos themselves were a bit lacking. The meat had some flavor with the consume, but it didn't really work out. The tortilla was also half-fried, so the tortilla had a leathery chew to it and not that crispy. The veggie empanada pastry was fairly well done and nicely flaky, but the filling just lacked significant flavor and whatever flavor was present did not mesh well together involving the cheese, onions, and poblano peppers. Probably need a little more salt, or even MSG. The salsa that accompanied it (which I'm assuming is salsa verde) could not save the empanadas, as the salsa itself barely had much flavor, and was mostly faintly acidic. I did try to use the salsa on the burrito, but only marginally added some flavor to it. As a side note, I briefly considered ordering the beef empanadas, but the raisins in the description made me question whether the filling would work and opted for the veggie empanadas instead... Yeah. I'm not at all curious at how the beef empanadas would have ended up, considering what the veggie version brought to the table The refried beans was also pretty standard and nothing to write home about. All and all, for the amount of money that was dropped for this meal, it was not worth it for the quality of the food. Probably the most bang for the buck was the refried beans and the burrito if you really had to order something from this restaurant, but, again, those dishes weren't all that impressive. I can't help but think that this is Mexican food catered to the Minnesotan/NE palate, and it's not even tex mex.... Additional FYI: the restaurant automatically charges an additional 10% service fee. Service is minimal, aside from the servers delivering food to your table. We were also not offered any water or beverages, nor were there were any options of water/beverage self-service. 1.5/5 for quality/flavor. 1/5 for value. All in all, I would avoid this place if you can. There is much better Mexican to be had in the Twin Cities elsewhere. read more

Just the best!!! I think about these breakfast tacos all the time. Life changing. Crispy tortillas. Spicy chorizo. Tangy cheese and green sauce. And really filling! The best thing on the menu. The cacao with a shot of espresso is a fun treat as well- not too sweet and usually served in a really cool mug that I sip to cap off my breakfast at leisure on a slow Saturday morning. I absolutely love the atmosphere/decor inside and out. You can order food at the counter or with a QR code right at the table. And the attached Mercado has really fun and high quality Mexican goods to browse. They have a lot of other good food on the menu- the avocado torta is so refreshing and unique. I still want to try the empanada and the carnitas torta but as I said....the breakfast tacos are just too good to pass up! I am gluten free so unfortunately most of the pastries I can't have but they are so colorful and look delicious! Today they did have a gf cookie! A majority of the food menu is gluten free though! I also did the Escondido tequila and mezcal tasting with a group of coworkers once. It was a great experience- the server/"spirit guide" was incredibly knowledgeable and entertaining. The food is beautiful and comfortable without being pretentious or highbrow. Love that they take risks and experiment with new twists on horchata and tepache. While it wasn't my thing, I respect that they're taking risks. Their chilaquiles were delish as was their cacao. Loved their creative decor and their staff was really friendly. The gem was their little boutique. Such a cool, eclectic, funky, creative retro hip store. Loved so many things and they were so unique. Parking was a bit tough, but we'll worth the walk. I remembered that Vivir has a little market inside of their restaurant. We had planned on having breakfast on their patio however the weather wasn't cooperating this day so we ended up ordering our breakfast to go. We ordered the Cemeta, Chilaquales, Aqua Fresca, Coconut Scone and a Blueberry glazed Doughnut. The Cemeta was excellent. Served on a bun that was so soft and fresh, maybe a Brissant? The Cemeta is served with a lot of tasty mushrooms and Panela cheese which was gooey and delicious. Options to add are eggs and or bacon. I went with the bacon, however honestly the sandwich didn't need it. The mushrooms were really meaty and filling. The sandwich was filling and satisfying. I would get this sandwich again. The chilaquiles was also very good. Fresh fried chips with chicken, avocado and a fair amount of spice in the sauce. The Blood Orange Aqua Fresca was refreshing. I am not a coconut fan unless it's on shrimp and then fried so I'll take my wifes word when she says she really enjoyed the Scone.  While we both enjoyed the Blueberry glazed Doughnut which was also stuffed with a vanilla cream however we both agree that it was more like a roll than a doughnut. The exterior was more textured like a roll. The inside was light and airy. Both the Blueberry glaze and vanilla cream filling were spot on. Really good breakfast that we would certainly return for again. One of my go-to coffee shops in NE is Vivir! I love that there's a great mix of food options here! Wifi is strong, music is always popping, and incredible service. I recently went and tried their Brown Butter Cookie - yum! A perfect mix of chocolate and a little salt. It was also included in the Star Tribune's top 15 cookies roundup recently. If anything was to replace Popol Vuh, I'm glad it was Viv!r. It's actually the same team as Centro and PV (Jami Olson and José Alarcon + Ngia Xiong) so instead of exceptional Mexican fine dining, it's an incredible Mexican eatery, market and private lounge. Great! The marketplace is vibrant and though it is small, it's full of many treasures from authentic wares to fun kitschy gifts to locally-made art. Think: Mexican chocolates, wine, roasted crickets, tortilla coasters, handmade jewelry and Schitt's Creek adult coloring book. As for food, I've had incredible things here! I especially loooove the baked goods, like the donuts, guava cinnamon roll and masa cookies. The savory empanadas are big, crispy and satisfying. The pozole and burrito are fantastic too. Not full five stars only because they filled my order incorrectly once and I've had a torta where both the bread and meat was super dry, but all of the good far outweighs those mishaps! read more

Overall it was fine and a great space to meet adult friends. The place is very intimate, not great for large parties and wouldn't be great for loud kids. Best for 2-4 people. My order got lost in translation from the ordering system, but they were quick to make it. I love the water spigot for refilling water. However, they are using plastic to go containers. The pastries were the highlight of the meal. Pecan muffins were light and flavorful. The chilaquiles were drowned in sauce. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and the first few bits with the crispy tortillas were great, but after a few minutes sthe tortillas became sloggy. The tacos were small portions, but the flavor was good. The black beans were very runny with a consistency of soup. This is a great Latinx concept restaurant, but definitely not traditional plating. They have food runners, but not really servers. Staff was friendly. They also have a cute shop with crafts, food and other little gifts. It's a great place to poke around to wait for a table. This is a cute little bakery/cafe/market. There are cute little trinkets, crafts, art and snacks in the market section right when you walk in. The menu has breakfast, food, sweets and beverages. My friend and I only came here for the sweets! We got two of the small donuts to share ($3 per), I got a slice of the tres leche cake ($6) and she got the mole chocolate cupcake ($4) and Mexican hot chocolate ($5). The tres leche cake is the best I've ever had! It's the same one that's served at Centro. Milk-soaked, moist , topped with berries and so deliciously sweet! The donuts were fine, but nothing I'd get again. The hot chocolate came in a small 8oz cup. My friend said it was ok, but not something she'd get again either. I absolutely loved my experience at Vivir! Everything I desire from a breakfast burrito is captured in their "breakfast tacos". It's savory, the eggs are not overcooked (and dry) the potatoes are crispy with a soft center, and the tortilla is sturdy. It doesn't fall apart. Corn tortillas can become wet and make a mess, but luckily the filling of this taco caters to it's strength. I have never ordered soup from a Mexican restaurant before and I fear I've been ruined (for the better). I don't anticipate getting much better than this Pozole. I sometimes didn't even know what vegetables I was eating in the dish but it didn't matter; it was all so tasty! Soup can be overpowering (overloading after a few bites) or it can have little to offer (watered down). This soup was very balanced. After a whole bowl you feel satisfied and happy! read more

A multi-purpose trip to NE Mpls. on a Saturday in April included stopping in at Viv!r for an early lunch. I can't resist trying the Chilaquiles at any new place, and theirs - Chilaquiles Verdes - were tasty and satisfying. I'd certainly order them again, and would recommend them to anyone considering them. I also ordered their Agua Fresca (I don't recall the fruit blend) and it was unlike all others I've ever tried. The one at Viv!r is not sweet at all; in fact, it's a bit "tart". It was, however, refreshing. My companion ordered their Breakfast Tacos with Chorizo and was very happy with them. Viv!r was mildly busy and the other adjoining side, Centro, was really lively with patrons enjoying afternoon cocktails and food. read more

My husband and I had no time to go on a formal anniversary date so we went here for brunch instead. I guess we got confused with the ordering system. We aren't fans of the QR code situation. The food was good, but I don't think it's worth the price. I did really enjoy the spicy hot chocolate. Such a great flavor! Otherwise, I don't believe we will be coming back. I didn't know this place was a thing to be honest, but we took my buddy for his birthday and it was an awesome birthday lunch, I have the chilaquiles and those were so good, I really like the whole experience of having a waiter/waitress but that's just a preference I love the horchata and la yuca so good I'm totally going back to this place read more
