My dogs have been coming here for 15 years. Sadly, Dr Johnny has retired. We loved him so much. The only girl from the original staff that stayed is Monica. I'm glad we still have her. We gave the new dr a try and we decided to stick around and continue bringing our dogs here. He seems like a good vet. It is now appointment only, unlike how it used to be as first come first served. We did her bloodwork and instead of calling me and explaining her results, he just emailed me and said pick up prescription diet food. My girl was diagnosed with kidney disease. I had to go back and ask to speak with him to get a better understanding of her condition. He said he didn't believe in stages with kidney disease but if he had to tell me she would be stage 3. Told me to change her diet and retest BI-ANUALLY. that was June 27 that my baby went in. July 7th I took her elsewhere to get a second opinion and retest her because she wasn't doing too good. Her bloodwork had doubled and we had to put her down. please go somewhere else if you want someone to give your baby a chance, instead of giving you a mediocre explanation and sending you on your way. read more

The doc was very informative. He provided me with his clinical reasoning as to what may be going on with my dog, which I appreciated. He patiently went through X-rays with me. Received all diagnostics in a timely manner. This is a no frills office. Prices were fair. However, care was better than most offices I have been to. read more

Honestly, if it weren't for Dr. Johnny, I wouldn't continue going there. While not all staff are an issue, some come across as cocky and indifferent. It's concerning that a sign had to be posted reminding people to be kind to the staff--respect should be mutual. Some customers are already emotionally strained bringing their pets in, and being met with cold or dismissive behavior only makes it worse. I hope Dr. Johnny becomes aware of how certain staff treat clients. Respect starts from within, and if the staff can't offer it, they shouldn't expect it in return. Our continued business is what keeps the place running--it's time that was recognized! read more

Had my dog fixed here at the beginning of summer. Happy to report that the surgery went well with no complications. I was a little hesitant to ask. Some of the yelp reviews are a bit harsh. I had a totally different experience, the staff was friendly and helpful. When we came back to have the stitches removed, it was first come first serve. We were given the option of waiting or going home and waiting for a phone call to come back. We opted to go home, when we returned after receiving the phone call we waited about 10 minutes before we were taken in and seen. Staff was great, prices are affordable! read more

I brought my puppy in about three weeks ago to be spayed. My in-laws have been taking their dogs here for many years, so I decided to give this clinic a try. Scheduling the appointment was easy and the doctor did an excellent job with the procedure and stitches. We also had no issues during the two-week recovery period, which was a relief. The only concern I had was with the communication about when to return for stitch removal. When I picked up my dog after the initial surgery, the receptionist told me to come back exactly two weeks later, anytime between 2:00-6:30pm as a walk-in (as long as the stitches were fine and no other services were needed). However, when I arrived at 5:15 p.m., the *same* receptionist told me(with a bit of attitude) that walk-ins had closed at 4:30. Thankfully, they still allowed my dog to be seen, but I was left confused as to why the time had changed without any notice? read more

Yes, they do have good service kind of pricey for some pet medical care, but they do work with actors and others that work in neutering and spaying your cats for free also it's hard to get them to answer their phones and make an appointment read more

This place is very affordable and the staff is very friendly. Really the only complaint is the inability to make appointments, but this is the Docs system of running things since the 80s and he has his reasons. Sometimes appointments go over time and sometimes they get canceled, either way people complain and are unhappy. So for him this system works and I can work with it. So come with an open mind about the "appointment system", but know that your fur babies are in good care with an affordable price. Makes me feel like doc really cares for fur babies versus charging me up the wahoo! read more

First things first, this is a negative review of my experience coming here but I will preface this by saying that this is more of a warning and a heads up when scheduling appointments. So I brought my dog Luna back in March to get her first shots. Everything went well, and I decided I'd get her spayed here as well. The experience was really positive and they treated me and my dog with respect. Now the scheduling, also went smooth. The attending nurse advised that we have to schedule 2 months in advance for spaying, which I was fine with, not a problem, totally understood. She scheduled us for today at 9 and I immediately asked for the time off at work. No big deal. That is, until the day of the scheduled surgery. I get there on time and walk in, am immediately told that there are no surgeries on Tuesdays... and in fact the person who came in before me was also told they had a scheduled appointment for today when it was in fact for yesterday. Well ok, I asked if we can reschedule for a different day as I had to ask for the time off and I can't possibly come in tomorrow for our actual "in the system" scheduled time. I was told they only ever do surgeries on Mondays and Wednesdays and the only days available are in July.... So the lesson I want everyone to take away is to double check the day they schedule you for surgery and make sure the day lands on a Monday or Wednesday. This clinic is very nice, everyone is friendly (save for the doctor maybe, I saw him late my first time and thought he might be tired). It was a warm, welcoming experience and would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. Just be careful with the scheduling. As for me, we'll I'll have to see if I can find a place open for this Saturday as this is the only time I have available for these sorts of things and that's a problem since most vets in my area are closed and or don't take walk ins... read more

I highly recommend this place to all pet lovers. Staff is amazing, know what they're doing, and, are very sweet and welcoming. My first time on Saturday, you have to arrive early and get in line, but they get you in pretty quick and very.reasonable for their service. They are local and have fair prices. Everyone here has been kind during our visits. They are busier then most specifically now with COVID-19. You have to call in prior to opening hours in order to get an appointment to get your pet treated. They are limiting the people inside in order to social distance everyone. I've been here multiple times for 2 pets. From my cat's odd false pregnancy to my dog's heart condition, Dr. Johnny and the staff have always been kind and friendly. They obviously care, and don't push you to do anything or proceed with any unwanted treatments. It really does feel like they're there to help. I'm a college student with low income, and the prices seem very reasonable here compared to what I've seen when searching around. Last straw. No intention of returning. It is the cheapest animal clinic, and I know pet services are expensive so do what's right for you. Truly the epitome of you get what you pay for. Bare minimum from the actual doctor when it comes to treating you animal with dignity or respect. My dog would have chronic ear issues - rather than give us options, the doctor would prescribe her medicine (that did work for about 6 months) and talk down to us about how we were irresponsible. 1) You're not my father, and I don't appreciate being spoken down to (this happened every 6 months for like 3 years) 2) I live in an old house with a less than ideal landlord and roommates who aren't keen on keeping the house sparkly and fresh scented as I'd like - but if I had the money to move out I wouldn't be going to the cheapest vet in town. There are positives to the vet, and do what's right for your pet. I don't want to support this business with my money, and I don't need the bad customer service for taking my dog to where she needs to go when she's feeling unwell. read more

If you try calling them you'll get their full voicemail box and don't try scheduling an appointment because this place is walk in only. The Dr was incredibly rough with my pup and his neuter was done poorly. The metal wires were put in crooked and his scrotum was irritated due to him not tucking in the exposed tissue. He slammed my dog onto the metal table and was not careful when removing his stitches. Look elsewhere for fur baby treatment. read more

You won't find a place with better prices than here! Vaccinations are very affordable so that people can be able to take care of their pets and keep them healthy! I've been coming here to get my dog's vaccinations and everything is great so far. The staff is pretty friendly as well. The only disadvantage to this place is that they don't accept appointments and only accept customers based on a walk-in basis. The clinic is only open a couple hours of the days so make sure to check their hours before walking in! Because they don't accept appointments, the wait to see the vet/get shots/ etc (whatever you're here for) will take a while - make sure you have at least 2 hours to spare in your day before you decide you need to come here! This review is based off of my experience with the staff and the vaccinations because I haven't had the opportunity to come in for an exam with the vet consultation yet. It has taken me a while to post this review because of the nature of having to see Dr. Johnny at La Mirada Animal Health Center. Our sweet girl Gigi was almost 17 years old and was falling apart quickly. She had arthritis in her back which prevented her hind legs from working. Her quality of life had almost completely diminished and it was time to put her down. In spite of Dr. Johnny giving us medicine to keep her going and a weekly on-going appointment schedule. Those of you who know will surely remember the "come back in one week". All of that is not why I'm giving only 1-Star. When Dr. Johnny did agree to put Gigi down, he did so WITHOUT giving her a sedative. My heart aches writing this knowing that she was taken out of our lives and was whimpering from the pain of the needle and injection. I've NEVER heard of the practice of putting down a pet without first sedating the animal. My wife and I will never forget seeing Gigi's life end in more pain and with a Yelp (pun not intended). Dr. Johnny may be fair priced, but the level of service and the attention to detail is surely missed here. Perhaps you should look elsewhere for your pet's care. read more

I needed to get my dogs rabies shot so I wanted to go to a vet that wasn't overpriced. I found this place and it is very affordable. Around $70 for updated shots and flea pill. The staff is super friendly and easy to talk to. I wish they were the doctor. Unfortunately I will be looking for a vet for check ups or any health concerns. The doctor came in to give the shots and didn't really talk to me or my dog. It was weird. He seemed nice but didn't make an effort to talk. I'd rather go with someone who puts in a little more effort in getting to know my dog at least a little bit. At least say hi or something lol. I do recommend for shots. If your dog is healthy and want a quick check up, I'd probably still recommend. If it's something more serious and you love your fur babies, maybe fib go somewhere else. read more

Been coming here since 1989. We trust and love Dr. Calimlim and staff!!! They're always very thoughtful and attentive to the 4 legged babbies. We have brought so many rescued pets that we've kept as part of the family here for check ups and procedures. Prices are great and Dr. Calimlim is always loving and great with the animals. Plus they have a friendly rescued clinic cat "Buddy" who roams the waiting room checking out the other animals that come in or sleeps on the counter after a hard day of watching. I've been taking my corgi Rufus here since he was a baby. It's a wonderful clinic if you are on a budget, especially for things like shots and flea meds...he was neutered here as well (though we don't talk about it when it's time to come here), and the ladies were wonderful taking care of him, and they still remember him to this day even 5 years after! If you are having an issue with your animal and you may need some extensive clinical help or need a diagnosis, I would recommend going to a full service animal health center...but for on the go routine help, this place has been good to us. The only thing that makes me anxious is my dog is a grumpy old man now a days, and the waiting area is small--so I get really nervous about causing a scene or fight, but at least they always have chairs outside so we just wait outside and the staff comes and finds us. NOTE: The line can get REALLY long, especially on the weekends. BUT there are periods (such as times during the weekdays) where it is almost empty. It's pretty brutal if you have to come on the weekend so plan accordingly--coming early would mean coming a good 30 minutes+ before opening hours. TINY NOTE (Post-it size): There's an office cat that roams around. For some reason Rufus also HATES cats, but I don't know if it's because their office cat has been around since he was a pup or what, but he isn't phased by her at all. Strange. :) read more

Been taking my pets for 10+ years and I feel as if I'm such a bother to the doctor. A pet of mine is an elderly dog and I take her for yearly boosters and rabies. When he comes in, he does not make conversation or asks any questions. If I ever share a concern he gives such short answers which just leaves me to asking more questions. We have been taking our "shy" shepard mix, rescue to Dr. Jones who understands our pet for about 4 years. He is very anxious and appears aggressive. Dr. Jones always takes plenty of time to properly examine him and explain her recommendations completely. We had Dr. Johnny treat him once and were very dissatisfied with his care. He was obviously afraid of the dog and did not attempt to approach him. He had his support team actually cut the toenails, which was the reason for our visit. They are all very caring animal lovers. I cannot recommend Dr. Jones highly enough although she only works limited hours. We found this clinic after going to Dr. Gregg's Animal hospital for many years with another dog we had for 14 years. Dr. Gregg's office also were afraid of our dog and even wrote VICIOUS on his file. Dr. Jones takes time to introduce herself to our baby after she has restrained his muzzle so everyone is safe. I brought my pet here for the first time. It is $25 for a check up/ physical exam. There is a coupon on their website for a free physical exam for first time visits. There are no appointments, only walk ins. There is a sign saying that the wait would be between 20 minuets to over 2 hours. There were only five people in front of me and I had to wait an hour and a half till I was seen. As for the doctor that treated my pet, the best way to describe him is, meh. Average, you know? Wasn't exactly friendly, but not really rude either if that makes sense. He got the job done, and that was all. Not good, but not bad either. I had to ask him to repeat himself a few times, his English is okay. And he didn't really take the time to explain things either. It wasn't exactly a bad experience, but not what I'm looking for. Like I said, he got the job done. But he lacked in engagement and making me feel welcome, and in showing genuine compassion for what he does. It was finally time to take my cat, Leonard, to the vet. For his procedure... My usual veterinarian was going to charge over a hundred dollars for the procedure, including some unnecessary "handling" charges. But the family who saved Leonard, where I got him, told me that La Mirada Animal Health Center was both professional and cheap. It was around $70-80 for the procedure, after all. I had to drop Leonard off because the veterinarian performed the procedure at night. At first this worried me. But the nurse I spoke to was very reassuring. On my way to the hospital I was emotional, so I called my aunt for some support ("will he still love me?!"). Leonard, unused to being in a crate, meowed, totally oblivious to his fate. I felt so guilty! I dropped him off (cried a bit in the car), and picked him up early the next morning. The cat who lives at the shelter (he was abandoned or found and they took him in, he's getting old) was very friendly and well-groomed. He even sniffed Leonard. I was so happy to see my little cat, but he would not look at me. He turned his butt to me! I don't know if that's normal. But I'd probably do the same, if I were in his position. The nurse gave me some information about aftercare; she was very helpful. I never met the doctor (he works at multiple animal hospitals), but Leonard's recuperation process was swift. I recommend this center for it's quick, professional, and no-nonsense veterinarian care. read more

I want to give a huge shout out to the staff here. I was in a tight bind with bundle of kitties that appeared in our backyard and a limited budget. So after I managed to adopt most and got the momma fixed we were down to two. We eventually decided to keep them but affordable vet care is hard, especially now. So I shopped around and this was one of the few places that were willing to work with me without costing me an arm and a leg. They were even willing to work with me knowing one of the kittens has not quite tamed down as far as I'd like. Brother is a luv muffin but the sister has a lot of her mom in her. Momma was very wild so we opted for a TNR program for her and was helped out by a local rescue. Really my only thing was this is the first vet in awhile I have been to who still used the non-dissolving stitches which meant trapping the little girl twice and having my life flash before my eyes as we tried to get her in her box several times! But, they were also the first vet that really never pushed any extra procedures or appointments on me. I had to ask to have them chipped, and that I wanted vaccinations. Which while my old vet was good, they are no longer in my price range. They also managed to work with me as best they could around my schedule, answered all of my emails, and all around put up with my billion questions and constant pestering. I've never called a vets office so much. So extra stars all around. read more
