Ordered a cheese curds and a corn bread appetizer. Came out piping hot promptly and was delicious. Our entrees (Caesar Sala s and Cajun pasta) took forever! I mean it was insane. The place wasn't half full and we waited and waited and waited. The Server became embarrassed and after about 45 minutes apologized for delay. Mentioned the kitchen was backed up. But the place wasn't even 30% full. It took more than an hour to get our two very simple meals. When they arrived they were fine. But the wait was really a bummer. read more

We spent a night in Eau Claire for business and we were recommended two places. We elected to go to Stella Blues because it seemed to be more our style. We ordered two appetizers, the cheese curds and the corn bread. The cheese curds were FREAKING amazing. Small deep fried pieces of Wisconsin cheddar. They were served with some garlic aioli that was delicious. The corn bread (server suggested) was spot on too. Moist and super flavorful and the fresh butter was great too. Then we moved on to entrees. Stella blues is a creole restaurant so their focus is Cajun food. The waiter, when asked, said the 5 dishes at the top were what they were known for so i figured ordering the Jambalaya i was going to get a good meal. It came out and was NOT what i was expecting. The flavors weren't bad, but I've never had Jambalaya with giant pieces of broccoli and other random vegetables. I definitely wouldn't order this again if I'm ever in the area. Service was good, waiter was attentive and made sure we were happy and our drinks were filled. I would go back to Stella Blues because the other person i was with said her meal was really good and there are so many other options on the menu but this trip didn't leave me impressed. read more

Went here for my dad's birthday dinner. Food tasted good, but the presentation of my pasta dish wasn't great as all the good bits were covered up by the pasta, so an initial look made it seem as though all you were getting was a giant pile of pasta. That said, it tasted good even if the meat and veggies were cut rather small. The crab cakes we had for appetizers were pretty good, though for the price, it would've been nice to get at least four of them instead of three as they weren't as big as I expected. Also, my mom complained about her side of green beans being overcooked, and they were. Not inedible, but definitely overcooked when they were no doubt reheated as they bordered on the mushy texture you get when you heat up frozen green beans in a microwave. What was really lacking was the service. Our server was either too distracted, or didn't care enough about the tables seated outside where we were, as it took too long to get requests for drink refills, and other things they didn't bother putting on the table like silverware or salt and pepper shakers, filled. When the manager is the one bringing that stuff out to you, that's a bad sign. And that's only because my dad fixes kitchen equipment in restaurants like this and knew the manager. And not once after we were served our food did she check in on us. Thankfully I wasn't paying because as far as I'm concerned, her lack of effort would've only gotten a 10-15% tip out of me. And we only got the check by flagging down another server. So, the food was decent. Not something I'd make a special trip for, but the real disappointment was the service from our server. I've gotten much better service from waitstaff at restaurants that cost half as much as this one. read more

Once upon a time I lived in this cozy little town and Stellas was just starting up...Catfish Wednesdays were all the talk...now over a decade later I sat down with a dear friend who had never tried blackened catfish and I'll tell you the dish was spot on. Both of us were set over the moon by delightful spices and a filet cooked to perfection. This place truly has a lot of heart and amazing soul food. We were in town for a sports tournament at UW went here with a group of 10. We made a reservation a few days in advance- our event ended early- they were extremely gracious and got us in early. Our server Chelsea was fantastic- especially with a big party with lots of special requests. The food exceeded expectations. Homemade hushpuppies were the best I've ever had. All 10 people loved their food! Jambalaya and gumbo were favorites, the beet salad was excellent as well. I would 100% visit again if we find ourselves in the area. read more

Great historic building. Always great beers on tap. The menu has some offerings that are unique to Eau Claire. Usually decent service, the manager could be more friendly. Stopped here on my way home from Minnesota, and my Mom and I decided to grab something to eat. I looked this place up on Yelp, and as we were both craving seafood, we decided to give this place a try. We were seated promptly, as we got there right after it opened (4:30). Our waitress was extremely nice! We ordered an appetizer of the crab cakes, which gives you three cakes and a dipping sauce. The cakes were thick and filled with a mixture of REAL crab, corn, and some other things. The outside texture was crispy and just a bit greasy. The taste, overall, was good! I did have any of the dipping sauce, as I didn't think the crab cake needed it. The winner with this was the real crab meat, as you could definitely taste it! For dinner I had the Shrimp and Grits. It came out on a dish that was filled with grits, and then topped with shrimp, red onions, Parmesan cheese, and a wine sauce of some sort. The shrimp were small, but you get a lot of them, and you get a generous helping of the grits. I was hoping the grits would be creamy, but they were still tasty. The sauce does have a mild kick to it, which is nice. However, it is a bit oily, so that may bother some people. I would order it again, though. My mom had the Jambalaya, which was served over a bed of rice. It was a mixture of sausage, shrimp, crawfish, and vegetables. She said the helping was a good, hearty portion, but the sauce was too tomatoey. I did taste it, and I agreed with her. The sauce was more of a pasta sauce, which took away the flavor of the meat and seafood. While this place is not "true" Cajun cooking, it does help satisfy a craving, and I think this place has a lot to offer. I don't know when I would be back in the area, but if I am I definitely want to check some other items out on the menu! read more

Really expensive for painfully average food..all 3 meals ordered fell very flat of our expectations. My water had a wad of cotton floating in it. I ordered the Sam Adams lager steak pasta and the steak is apparently supposed to come medium well (didn't know that when I ordered it but that's their first problem right there, that should be a crime), and my steak was at the point of being tough, charred, and inedible. We had dinner here last night. We really liked it. Awesome little place. The service was outstanding and the food matched. We started with a cup of Gumbo, the cornbread, and the cheese curds. All were really, really good. We loved the cornbread. My wife had the battered catfish. She said it was really, really good. The service size it pretty large. My son had the Spicy Mac N Cheese. He really liked it as well. Portion size was large as well. I had the Sea Scallops with mashed potatoes. It came with 5 scallops with a scoop of the mashed in the middle of the plate. The flavor was outstanding. The scallops were over cooked a bit, the only negative of the night but not worth knocking the whole meal down. We didn't have dessert. We'll be back. read more

My wife and I went here last night for our wedding anniversary. We live in town and have been here a handful of times over the years. Last night we both went with steaks. I had the 14oz New York strip and my wife had the 14oz Ribeye. They looked amazing when they came out. I ordered my steak med rare. After a couple of chewy bites I cut it in half and it was pretty blue yet. Our great waitress, Kayla, took it back to the kitchen for a little more time on the grill. She brought it back and had me cut into it. It was still very rare. Back it went again. The third time this steak was set in front of me it was a perfect med rare. Not sure why a chef/cook couldn't nail a med rare steak on the first try. So now my steak is at the proper temp. Eating this steak was a struggle. It was tough and lined with inedible gristle. For $32 this steak should have melted in my mouth. Unfortunately this was the toughest and chewiest steak I've even experienced in a restaurant, anywhere. I know a steak has fat and you're bound to hit some gristle here and there but this one didn't have any of it trimmed off. A $32 steak should, at a minimum, have the chewy gristle trimmed off. This wouldn't even be a good steak if it was $12. My wife's ribeye was a little better than my strip but was still a let down since her's was also 32 bucks. I gave 3 stars due to the great service we had with Kayla as our waitress and the sides were good. We'll probably return at some point in the future but not in a hurry to go back. For a good steak we'll go to the chain restaurant on the south side. We'll have to put up with loud music and dancing waiters/waitresses but the steaks are good and half the price. read more

We were really looking forward to this place, too! How often do you get to eat Cajun in Wisconsin? We went in at ~4:30, so as you can guess, we were the only patrons. Waitress asked where we would like to sit. I mentioned a four top in the front window, and she sputtered a second, as if she was worried our party of 2 would hinder that seating(? I'm really not sure why the reaction, honestly). A different waitress took our drink order, then promptly sat at the bar to eat- while in full sight of us, which was a bit odd. Don't get me wrong, I understand the godsend a break can be, but the first gal was behind the bar, talking with someone. I've lived on the east coast all of my life, so I know what fresh/good seafood tastes like; as well as visiting New Orleans multiple times. Decided to take the recommendation of a local for some good seafood. I can honestly say, I am highly disappointed with the food. I ordered the crab cakes as an appetizer along with shrimp and grits. The crab cakes were mediocre, nothing really jumped out about it. The shrimp and grits were EXTREMELY oily and the amount of red onions that were placed in it, was overpowering to say the least. I was there again with my husband tonight, he ordered bread.. came out frozen in the middle. They took it back and gave him another set of bread and it was cold in the middle still.
