Ayyyyy, what can I say. Attempted to go here with my buddies on a Saturday night but were delightfully met with the cover charge. Considering they only play one type of music and it's essentially a regional/Mexican type club the cover charge was exceedingly high. At $40 per person a 3 person group was gonna cost me $120. We know that most of the money in clubs is made with the alcohol sales since they are marked up, so it made zero sense and was quite infuriating that the cover was 40. We came down from Los Angeles our first experience was worth the drive. Some people next to us were drunk being rude and confrontational so we told the security that was close by bald guy with glasses he went and spoke with them after that we had no other issues the rest of the night. Just went yesterday for an event, drove 2 hours to get there & i will never ever go back. Super bad rude staff. When the artist started playing the waiter didn't let get back to my table like wtf?! Not worth the time or money to come in. A majority of the time the DJ was on although they advertised certain groups playing that night. 2 hours in and nothing was set up for the banda or grupo to play and it looked like there wasn't going to be a sign of them performing. The price for drinks was decent but the atmosphere and the lack of actually having those they advertised play ruined the experience. Great little spot in town to listen to music have a few drinks and get your dance on. Dance floor is big and spacious gives you enough room to break out those dance moves you do at home lol. If in town stop by and check it out they play Spanish music with live Banda and DJ. Highly recommend for a good night out. read more

Yes, white girl can salsa... bachata, Casina Rueda, and even a little cumbia sonidera. So you can just wipe that surprised look right off your face! The man standing outside the entrance as I walked up asked me if I was ready to dance. I kind of thought the dance shoes I was carrying in my hands were a pretty good clue, but maybe he was just making conversation. That's how serious dancers recognize a kindred spirit - by the shoe bags or dance shoes in our hands; we never dance in street shoes or walk around the parking lot in our dance shoes. When I said "Yes!" he followed it up with "You salsa good?" Oh yeah, Honey - I "salsa good" This was my first time at La Movida and I was very impressed. Yes, I know you're looking at the map and shaking your head saying to yourself "It's down off Union for heaven's sake." Well, get over it. La Movida has a large well lit parking lot with signs announcing that there is 24 hour video surveillance, and I felt perfectly comfortable parking and walking in (and out at the end of the night) by myself. Inside, there is a surprisingly large dance floor with ample space around it to hold tables and chairs for quite a few dancers or music lovers (The space holds 1150 people). The club seems to play mostly salsa, bachata, and cumbia music, but that could have just been the night I was there. I danced for several hours, spinning like crazy every chance I got, and my knees didn't hurt afterwards so I'm declaring the dance floor very danceable. I've heard they have a lot of live bands that play there, too!! The club is attractively decorated and lit. I was particularly fascinated with the colored lighting behind the bar. It took me a while to realize that the lights were slowly cycling through colors from blue and green to purple and red, but in such a subtle way that it was not immediately obvious what was going on. The effect was actually very well done, even upscale. The bartenders and servers were very courteous and friendly, and the drink prices not unreasonable. I would absolutely go back! Where do I start? I paid for tickets in advanced (pre sale), called the number on the tickets to reserve a table. I was told my reverted table I got was #23. I mentioned it would be 6-8 people and that we would buy a couple of bottles plus at least 4 buckets of beer. I found it odd that he didn't want to take a deposit for the table as most organized nightclubs do. They only assured me that as long as I was there by 9:30pm, I would have my table. My party and I arrived at the establishment right at 9pm. The place is packed with cars, no VIP parking. We eventually found a spot on the street. As we drove by we could see there was a line wrapped around the building all the way to the parking lot. When we got there my cousin walked up to the securities to ask if there was a separate line for people who had printed tickets, there was a solid "no" answer. We got in this massive line and waited and waited and waited. In the freezing temperature, absolutely no concern about the people outside. For WHATEVER REASON security was letting people in by a few, we ended up inside of the place exactly at 10:15!!! Yes, TEN:FIFTEEN pm!!!!!!!! So we're inside now. IT IS ALREADY SUPER PACKED! So, we all start to look for a waitress, not one was in plain sight for the first 10-15 mins. My husband and brother in law finally found one, a lady with long black hair who apparently was having a bad day and hated her job. We stop her to politely ask if we could be seated in table 23, before we're half way to what we want to ask, she lifts her hand up and said "Mira espera un momento si?" (Look wait a moment, ok?) and before I could agree or disagree, she walked away. SOB!!!! I hate that! We see and older gentlemen who seams to either be the owner or some hotshot in that place, I stop him and politely asked him about my reservation, he raises his hands and tells me "después de las 9:30 no se reserva nada" (after 9:30 nothing is reserved). I told him I was there since 9pm and because of the long line I didn't get in until 10 mins ago. He tells me "ya no ay ninguna mesa" (there's not one table left) and of course, walks away. I'm about ready to leave, I have never been treated like this, not because I'm important but because I always plan ahead and make reservations and they're ALWAYS HONORED!! By now my husband bumped into a guy he knows who just so happens to be sitting in front of the dance floor and has enough room for 4 people to sit, so he kindly offers the spot to us. All 4 girls got to sit and the guys were just standing there. Each little "couch" had a mini table for their drinks, for some reason, there wasn't one there. So we wait and wait and then wait some more, no waitress in sight ANYWHERE! The guys finally decide to go to the bar to get their own drinks. They were gone for a good 20 mins or so. They come back complaining about only one girl was behind the bar and the lines were crazy, not only that but they had a full 6 pack of beers in their hands because they didn't have anymore buckets to put them in! Wtf?! Why not?! At that moment, my husband spots a waitress and goes to call her over, I asked her if I could get a bottle of Remmy Martin, she said it's $260 I told her "ok, for that money could you please find a mini table to put it on?" She said "I'll look for one". She left and we waited and waited and waited. By the time I got my bottle it was now 11:30pm!!!!!!!!!! She brings it and says "oh si, no tienen mesa verdad?" (Oh yea, you don't have a table huh?) she literally puts the cups, ice, juice and bottle on the FLOOR!!! Yes, the floor!!!! And says "I'll bring one by right now", we never saw her again. Thank God the people to our right and left we're so cool that they made space in their mini tables for us to put our beer and bottle. At 12ish, my cousin calls over a waitress. The same waitress that raised her hand and told me to wait. She asks her for a bucket, the waitress said "you have to pay for it first I'm not sure how much it was but my cousin was expecting $8 back. The waitress leaves, she's now gone for 20 mins when my cousin decides to go look for her, she might've been gone 5 mins when the waitress shows up with the bucket, drops it off and leaves. When my cousin comes back she asked if She had given me the change, I said no. So the waitress at some point comes back and my cousin asked her for her change, literally wig rolling eyes, gave my cousin her change. When the main attraction (singer) came out, HE AND ONLY HE MADE THE NIGHT BETTER, we really put everything in the back burner and enjoyed ourselves!! I'm not even gonna get into the fight that broke out right in front of us with security nowhere around until they broke it off themselves. LOL The bottom line is that La Movida needs ORGANIZATION! MANNERISM! PROFESSIONALISM! MORE STAFF! AND DEFINITELY BETTER CUSTOMER SERVICE!! I hope they see this and take it as constructive criticism. I'm not being mean, I'm only stating the facts. read more

Nice place and music but it seems like you gotta have a dick for waitresses to serve you/ basically the waitress ignored me couple of times she passed next to my table, the time my friend almost jump on top of her to get service she rolled her eyes . There should be a "zero" star selection. I've been here a few times in the past and EVERY single time I've been, there has been some issues or another. I've reserved a table for some friends and I for Con Junto Primavera (again, this is just one instance that I've reserved a table) and was told by a very dismissive waitress that they "overbooked your table" I was very upset because I had reserved a table in advance for this very reason. I asked to speak with the owner (who was also VERY dismissive) and after some time of getting the run around, I finally was able to speak with him. He sort of said too bad and walked AWAY mid conversation and left me and my group without a table... I would HIGHLY suggest that you do NOT come to this establishment and SAVE YOUR MONEY!!! The staff is extremely rude. The female "owner" came up to me yelling "$40" the table was reserved she said it wasn't. She clearly needs a class in basic etiquette. Horrible experience I called a week before an event to reserve a table. I told the gentleman (not so gentleman) I was driving from LA so I wanted to get charged for the table in advance so I knew I wouldn't get there to no table and guess what? BOOM! No table for me! Smfh! I walked in and according to three female servers it was first come first serve. Reservations were only with a deposit which I had asked the guy and he said no it's fine you're table will be reserved Just be here before 9:30pm. I was there by 9pm. Finally a server was nice enough to get us a table for the $250.00 bottle we purchased close to the back of the stage I know all bad ‍ whatever all I know is i won't be going there again! They need to be more organized and hire better staff. Their customer service is horrible!!!! This club is great for banda lovers and young poeple in general. It recently changed it's policy to 21 and older, but it is still pretty accessable to the 18 with i.d. crowd. Great music and an even better bar! You'll love this place. read more
