Such a cool spot that we stopped by on our road trip serving up basque style food. Everyone there seemed to be locals and knew each other, so loved that small town feel. We ordered the ribeye lunch special served basque style and was not ready for the amount of food that was coming! Besides the steak and fries, we got a full bowl (not cup!) of basque style cabbage soup, baked beans, cottage cheese, salad, side of salsa, bread. We also ordered the small side of beef tongue which was delicious! Attentive service as well, and I had to get the basque cheesecake to go. Would 100% come back (and maybe just share the basque meal next time) if we do pass by Bakersfield again!

Basque resto in East Bakersfield that's been around for centuries apparently! Nice big bar w happy hour and friendly staff, indoor diner, and another bar outdoors with patio and stage for live music on weekends. Entrees are pricey but it's bc of the many sides a complete meal comes with.

Old-school charm at its finest. This historic landmark delivers the kind of warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you feel like family the moment you walk in. You can tell the recipes have been passed down through the years -- every bite has that 100% authentic, homemade taste, look, and feel. I had the pastrami, and it was clear there was a lot of tender love and care put into that sandwich. Absolutely beautiful. Paired it with the hand-cut French fries and the homemade onion rings -- both were outstanding. Amazing experience all around. A definite must-try.

What a great place!! Went for breakfast on our way back to LA. Unassuming building in the old part of town. Pretty crowded for a Friday morning. Bartenders Tammy and Dora were very nice and provided great customer service. We sat at the bar- fast refills on the coffee. After asking for recommendations we both got some of their chili verde. Excellent with big portions. Prices very reasonable Definitely coming back when I'm in town. Such a great vibe to a historical restaurant

Overall an ok experience, but not sure I'll be back anytime soon. We were seated outside, which was clean, but there were a ton of fans blowing even though it wasn't hot. Two stray cats kept coming up to the table begging for food. Our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. There was literally nobody else on the patio and it took 30 minutes for our order of a hamburger and steak salad to arrive. The food itself was very good.

I told my husband that having lived here in Bakersfield for about 8 years, I haven't tried Basque food yet. He brought me here, an unassuming spot in downtown with unbelievably amazing service and at the same time, good food. We had the whole set up as he called it, with garlic fried chicken as our main. We also got some onion rings and pickled tongue as extra sides. We were first served bread then the rest of the meal was served on and on. We usually share entrees so this was like a feast in our eyes. Loved everything, flavor was subtle yet reminds you of comfort. There was a bar as soon as you walk in which seemed to have such a fun atmosphere as well! Glad to have tried this Bakersfield's not-so-hidden gem. Just a tip: come hungry!

I love that they have kept the original vintage look in this restaurant. Pyrenees is such a loved tradition here in Bakersfield. Natalie was our server today, she was friendly, helpful and prompt. I had questions about some of the vintage photos on the wall and she patiently answered them even though she was busy with lunch rush. The staff works well together as a team to be sure your experience is on point & enjoyable. During their lunch & dinner rush just be prepared to have a leisurely meal. This isn't a fast food joint. As always the food was delicious today. Our group ordered and shared the meals. We love trying everything. We had the Halibut with artichoke sauce which was creamy and flavorful. The Halibut was cooked perfectly. The Lobster Ravioli was scrumptious. Al dente pasta with a generous lobster filling and a delicious garlicky cream sauce. The cheesy garlic bread was not to my liking. The cheese crust was left on the grill a little too long and the bread was a bit dry. Other than that the meals were a treat. A while back I had another so good experience. I think it was right after it had changed hands. Well I'm glad to see they have it dialed in now. For good food & service I recommend Pyrenees!

We love coming to Pyrenees for breakfast and lunch. Service is great and very consistent. The ambiance is very lively. There's plenty of space for large parties and gatherings. My fiancé loves the bacon cheeseburger but I love their basque menu! My go to is the shrimp scampi and it's very light and flavorful. I'd really love to come here for happy hour in the near future. I've also been to an engagement party here where my friends made a large reservation and did basque food catering. Their fried chicken is delicious and i love their basque soup! I recommend this place to anyone trying basque food for the first time. There are so many great options which is why this is a Bakersfield classic!

Came back for lunch! Unbelievable value on their garlic fried chicken. 3 big pieces of chicken with fries and onion rings. Even comes with some setup for $20+. Too much food for sure you'll be good until dinner. The crisp was superb but I'd say the fries need seasoning. I would also prefer to have more of the garlic they put on top of the chicken, would make more memorable bites. Albeit I forgot to ask if it was possible!

When you first get here there is a lot of parking available, ALOT of seating areas and different vibes the restaurant has tables, outside patio, bar, big party friendly. The service was quick you can tell they treat their regulars like family. Everyone was checking on us and they all were so friendly. The meats were high quality and cooked exactly how we asked. The lamb chops were so delicious. The drinks were good nothing special but I'll probably try a house cocktail next time. Other than the area this place is a must try for sure.

We recently hosted my husband David's birthday celebration here, and I cannot say enough wonderful things about this place or its owner, Julie. From start to finish, the experience was exceptional. Julie and her team went above and beyond to make the evening seamless, stress-free, and truly special. The staff was incredibly kind, attentive, and professional all night long. Every guest felt welcomed and cared for, and so many of our friends and family commented on how great the service and atmosphere were. The venue was perfect for our celebration, and everything flowed beautifully. Thanks to Julie and her amazing team, the night was unforgettable. We had the best time, and our guests did too. If you're looking for a place to host a special event or simply want outstanding hospitality this is it. Thank you, Julie, for helping make such an important milestone so memorable!

This is a local gem, finally get to go there with a friend for a proper review. Three place to sit, the super fun old school bar, indoor restaurant, or outdoor patio. The patio is my favorite, a rustic courtyard with brick wall, string lights and red umbrellas. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. The food is the legendary Bakersfield basque food with modern presentation. The garlic fries and shrimp appetizers were amazing. My main course was ribeye, nicely marbled, perfectly prepared, nicely seasoned. Every dish had great attention to details. Very satisfied and I will always return here.

Nobody plans to spend an evening in Bakersfield. You pass through it on the way to somewhere else…read more-- Mammoth, the Sequoias, the long flat grind up the 99 to Sacramento -- and if you stop at all, it's for gas or a bathroom or because your BMW's brakes have decided, somewhere around the Grapevine, that they'd rather not. Thank you, Weatherford BMW of Berkeley, for the near-death experience and, inadvertently, for one of the best nights out I've had in years. Stranded and waiting on repairs, we checked into The Padre, the only hotel in Bakersfield that feels like someone with a subscription to Dwell had a hand in it, and set out walking through a downtown that time has treated with more kindness than reputation suggests. There's a Woolworth's luncheonette still hanging on. There are old brick facades and wide sidewalks and the particular quiet of a Central Valley evening when the heat finally breaks. And then, on 18th Street, there is Tiki-Ko, and suddenly you are no longer in Bakersfield at all. You are, instead, inside someone's magnificent obsession. Tiki-Ko is a proper tiki bar -- not a tiki-themed cocktail lounge, not a place that bought some bamboo at a craft store and called it atmosphere, but a genuine, committed, floor-to-ceiling shrine to mid-century Polynesian fantasy. The carvings are real. The lighting is correct -- which is to say, barely there. The mugs are serious. There are pufferfish lamps and carved totems and the whole glorious taxonomy of tiki ephemera, accented here and there with a skate-culture edge that keeps it from feeling like a museum. It's reverent without being precious. The drinks are the real thing. Mai Tais built with actual orgeat. Zombies that earn the name. The bartenders make them with the kind of care and enthusiasm that tells you this isn't a gig -- it's a calling. They want you to be here. They want to talk about rum. They want you to try the Painkiller. In a city that most Angelenos regard as a punch line, somebody built a world-class cocktail bar and filled it with joy, and the regulars clearly know it. You will not plan a trip to Bakersfield. But if you find yourself there -- by mechanical failure, by accident, by the peculiar mercy of a bad brake job -- walk downtown. Find the tiki bar. Order a second round. Stay longer than you intended. Bakersfield has been underestimated, and Tiki-Ko is the proof.

It was a fun evening in a laid back environment, the bartenders were nice and the lady clearing tables was pleasant. The only thing I, personally, didn't enjoy was the weird ambient soundscapes. It's rustic and clean, it's very clean. There's a very large side room for events etc. the main bar area is small with some nice chairs to sit in and the large tv was set to a fireplace. The floors are covered in various beef/farm brands, adds to the rustic western vibe. Bartender was friendly and attentive. She kept busy cleaning and dusting bottles- like I said- it's clean. Drinks for a "speakeasy" were not special. Very typical bar drinks- no special menu etc. I visit a lot of speakeasy's- this is, speakeasy-ish. Our two drinks & a club soda were nearly $40. They were made well. Unfortunately, they didn't have the ingredients to make the drink I had asked for. Overall, I'd like to see this place on a weekend night with music. The drinks were over priced for what they were- IMO. That said, I'll likely return, at least once. Still bummed KC doesn't have a nice speakeasy.
