Guacamole and salsa is delicious as well as the warm chips. I've ordered a few different dishes here and always pretty good. I do feel like the wait time could be shorter.last time I got the Birria tacos and they were delicious except I was expecting them to be crunchy. I asked about them before I ordered and I feel like the waitress was bothered by my question. Kinda makes me want to look for a different Mexican place to eat at. After the movie, this is where my friends wanted to go for dinner. I have to say the ambience is nice with all the bright color and paintings on the wall. However, the tables are very, very cramped in. We had a great server. I wished I got her name. Such a pleasant smile and interestingly enough so many people kept coming to the table to check on us. They do care about customer service. The salsa was spicy, but I liked it. The chicken quesadilla was actually excellent and they use grilled white meat chicken. This review is for the La Nopalera in Fleming Island. My husband and I stopped by for lunch on a Saturday around noon. There was no wait to get a table. There were a few customers here, approximately 1/4 of the tables were filled. Pros: Meals were tasty. I ordered the fajita nachos and my husband had the fried chimichangas. Service was pleasant, efficient, and the check was paid via table side checkout. Drinks were served in extra large glasses and refills were not needed. Cons: The floors are really slippery. Be careful if you are wearing non-grippy shoes or if it's raining at all. The lighting is extremely dim. Had to use the light on the phone to read the menu. The salsa is bland and tasted like tomato puree. I added a ton of hot sauce to mine and all that did was make it taste like tomato puree with vinegar in it. Overall impression: Not my go to for Mexican food, but more positives than negatives. read more

I walked in and was greeted immediately. They sat me down and had chips and salsa in a blink of an eye. I asked for queso cheese and before I could turn around it seemed like it was at the table. This is the only knock I have is that it was too runny, but the taste was outstanding. My waitress was named Erica and so on her game and very personable. I was asked many times if I was OK and feel like I was taking care of well as I was by myself at the time when I died. I ordered the quesadilla Reno with chicken, but you do have the option of beef. Once again my food came out. It was good temperature and of a wonderful portion. The taste of the chicken was amazing and the presentation was beautiful. It's a lot of food and for the price you can't beat it. It's been many years since I've been here as I moved away from the area, but some things never change. My wife and I had dinner their yesterday and it was really bad! I ordered a chili relleno, chicken burrito and beef chalupa. Only the burrito was edible but the red sauce on top of the burrito tasted more like a marinara sauce, really strange for a Mexican restaurant. The chalupa and chili relleno came out luke warm and the beef in them was runny almost like soup and had no flavor. Manager was gone so I couldn't speak to him so I had to leave my comments with the hostess Jennifer was great and amazing. My wife had sizzling chicken fajitas that lacked any kind of spices. I've steered away from La Nop for a while because their food always under-impressed. My team at work was ordering and I saw that the menu had been updated and included Birria Tacos so I decided to give it a go. When it comes to Birria, they clearly did not understand the assignment. The meat was definitely not seasoned or cooked in consommé. It was just slow cooked beef with no seasoning. The shells were not fried in the grease from the consommé and were just plain corn shells. That was all there was, just unseasoned meat and plain corn shells. No cheese or consommé to dip the tacos in. They did provide some cilantro and onion but that did very little to make any impact on the lack of flavor. The owners of La Nop should be ashamed of the food their kitchen is putting out and definitely should not have items misrepresented on the menu. I finished one of the three tacos before giving up. My dogs will get a nice treat when I get home tonight. read more

Being from Jacksonville, La Nopalera has been a staple for years which is why there are so many locations. I visited the Fleming Island location for the first time in a long time, I usually prefer the Kingsley location but haven't been visiting frequently like in the past. The food was just ok, service was good but when I got home & had a second to think I couldn't believe how much I paid for two adults & 1 child. $85! Two adults meals and one child with only one alcoholic beverage & cheese dip... I couldn't believe it. For La Nopalera?!? The food was fine, but I went specifically for their Taco Tuesday special, $5.99 for three tacos. I asked what tacos were included in the special price, and he said beef and chicken. I said, "Great, I'll have the chicken." What I did not realize was he decided to give me GRILLED instead of shredded chicken, which was apparently $10 more!! I was VERY unhappy to receive my bill at the end for $10 more than what I was expecting. They need to CLEARLY state what is on their taco tuesday special so that if your server does not speak English, you can point to exactly what you want. This is the second time I ordered something to go and realized it was wrong when I got home. I ordered a chicken fajita salad with no onions, and got a steak fajita salad, extra onions. I called to ask for a refund or a discount the next time I came in, and they said I needed to come in if I wanted to get the food remade or a refund. My girlfriend and I have been here a few times now. The service is about average, however, they have always been busy when we have been here. The chips and salsa are very delicious ,I can't stop eating them. I saw reviews before eating here complaining about the quality of the meat. The beef and pork (which is all I've had) was marinated and had a good flavor to them. This is my girlfriend and I's favorite Mexican in the area and it is miles ahead of salsas. I am never coming back. It started with when my "server" brought me my super hot plate with no warning. He didn't tell me how hot my plate was. Which i burnt my hand on. Later on, while I was explaining something to my friends, someone in the staff turned up the music over my voice. We were the only people in the restaurant. When we went to pay at the host stand the same server from before was asking us what we ordered, and he didn't bring us a ticket like he said he would. So disappointed tonight, as well as our last several visits. We have been going to La Nalopera for over 20 years; first at the Kingsley location and the last 4 years at the Fleming Island location. The quality of the food has gone down. The waitress was nice and very pleasant; it wasn't her fault. The order got mixed up--no problem, it happens with newbie's. The issue I had was my initial order, beef taco salad. First, I was given a chicken taco salad, which isn't what I order, but would've eaten had it tasted good, unfortunately it did not. The waitress brought me a beef taco salad. The beef looked reddish, like is wasn't fully cooked and tasted weird. The waitress kindly took it back and brought me something else out. The beef was better cooked, but still looked and tasted different. It wasn't horrible, but at the same time it was disappointing. Quality has definitely gone down and the prices up. Even their frozen Margarita seemed a little different (and I usually rave about that). Overall, I doubt we'll go back. We got an appetizer which was watery fries covered in meat and orange nacho cheese. My taco and burrito were just ok(not good). I ended up biting into a hard piece of something(metal) in my burrito and after spitting it out was unable to eat anything else. My husband didn't finish his meal because he said it was not good. Literally 1 cook left working and absolutely disgusting-showed the waiter and he just takes the plate and doesn't offer anything in return- not to remake it, another option or anything.
