Our meals included the Birria quesadilla which was absolutely fantastic! I loved every bite! Hubs chose the California burrito which I got to try, and it was also cooked very well and the meat was fresh. Burrito was HUGE and hubs was happy. Pros and cons here... I'll start with dessert because that was the best part for us. They have a churro cake with vanilla ice cream. It was so flavorful and delicious! They serve the cake warm and though the presentation is a bit..... Interesting (see my photo for a giggle) it was the best thing we ate here. Came in at a weird time between lunch & dinner so it wasn't busy. We were seated quickly in a booth. The waitress came regularly but was not friendly at all. So service was just okay. First you get chips & salsa and when I say this is the mildest salsa I've ever tasted in my LIFE. It's basically just tomato sauce. We were hungry so we ate some but it was so bland & had zero to no flavor. I ordered the birria burrito and it's probably the biggest burrito I've ever seen. Enough for two meals which was awesome but again the flavor was just lacking somewhat. The birria itself did have decent flavor but again just so mild. Covered in queso which I like normally but you could barely taste it. My husband got a chimichanga which was a lot smaller, he also said the meat was the most flavorful part of the meal. An hour after I arrived at Anejo dense fog was everywhere like London in an old movie. They have outdoor seating that was bare of guests. We both had the tortilla soup which was very good. Mine without cheese and his with lots of cheese. It was like the tortilla soup I made with a kit from HEB in Austin. I just never added rice. He also ordered the pork belly. I had the street corn but dusted off most of the cheese and took two lactose pills just in case. The wait said many order the corn cut from the cob but what fun is that? We live near this area and decided to finally try Anejo Cocina Restaurant. The interior is pretty nice, reminds me of another Mexican Restaurant. We were greeted warmly and seated right away.I appreciate that they provided us with complementary chips and salsa. We ordered the following: Chicken Wings - nice flavor of the buffalo sauce but it was not crispy as we requested . Pollo Loco - the chicken breast was nicely flavored and juicy. Love the veggies on the side and the grilled onions on top of the chicken! Birria Quesadillas- Tasty shredded beef. Would've enjoyed it more if it was crispy. We stumbled upon this place as a plan B one rainy evening and it worked out pretty well. I'm picky about my Mexican food and pleased all of us. It was pretty consistent with what I grew up with in California. Their chile relleno was delicious, my husband enjoyed his steak, and my sons enjoyed their burritos and tamal. I've been holding off on writing anything for this local chain establishment but it's finally time. Anejo has been solid through and through. The staff at the St John's location really make you feel at home. All of my dining experiences have been from bar service so take that with a grain of salt. The food here overall, is quite good. It's pricey. But everything in this area is pricey. It's a great value if you're looking for some fantastic Cancun shrimp tacos or a massive steak burrito (enough for two portions). Their shrimp diabla plate is excellent and be sure to order a side of tortillas to go along with it. Their diabla sauce is house made and incredibly spicy and flavorful, if you're a spice head. There just seems to be a minor fruit fly issue near the bar and hopefully that is remedied. Overall a solid spot to grab a drink and some fine dinner. read more

After a trip to the beach we were all craving Mexican food. We were all looking forward to a delicious meal! I'd been craving their chicken quesadilla but did not want to pay $3 extra for the grilled so got shredded chicken. We got 2 kids meals also. The biggest disappointment was the rice - my kids will usually DEVOUR Mexican restaurant rice but could barely eat a few bites of this one. It was hard and had NO flavor at all. We were served a big bowl of fresh warm tortilla chips, and very good salsa. My husband ordered steak nachos, and I had the Mexican style corn tortilla chicken tacos. We have NEVER had a bad meal at Anejo Cocina in any location. The margaritas and palomas are always top notch. I especially love the paloma with the tajin rim - such a special touch. The house chips and salsa are great, but do ask for the house hot sauce (from the back). It's flavorful and goes well on everything. My staple meal is the birria quesadilla. It's THICK with lots of delicious meat and cheese. the tortillas are soaked in that yummy consumme and more is served on the side. The meal comes with some of the best rice I've had in a Mexican restaurant, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream. Prices are a little higher than your regular Mexican place, but the vibes are perfect, decor is really pretty and every location I have visited is spotless. read more

I've never been disappointed at an Anejo restaurant and this was no different. This chain is very consistent among the locations. The prices are reasonable and the portions are huge! For 2 alcoholic drinks and 2 entrees for dinner was around $50. Considering the price of food nowadays, $50 is very reasonable. Our waiter was so friendly and sweet. He couldn't have been more accommodating. We both got burritos which were huge and delicious! My husband who is a bigger guy couldn't even finish his meal. We both went home with leftovers. It wasn't very busy so it wasn't loud and we were able to talk. We will definitely be back! read more

A new restaurant in the Fountains shopping center. Anejo occupies a corner suite towards the back. Lots of parking in the area. We didn't have reservations. Not sure if they take them. But figured that going after 8pm on Friday, we should be able to get a table. The advantage of the Fountains area is that if you can't get into one place, there are other options. We walked up to the restaurant and, as expected, they were busy. They told us there was about a 20 minute wait. It actually was only about 10 minutes. They escorted us to a booth and gave us our menus. A few moments to look at the menu and our waiter stopped by. Very friendly and polite, he asked us if we wanted any drinks. We ordered our drinks and guacamole. Lots of different choices on the menu. Plenty of dishes we would like to try. Soon, our guac and drinks were delivered. We then placed our orders. The guac was good, nothing special. It is not tableside prepared. But we liked it. Chips and salsa are also supplied. We finished our guac and our dinners were soon delivered. Our meals were good. My wife's chicken Relleneos was good and big. We took half of it home. I had the tequila chicken. Also quite tasty; a great tasting meal. The restaurant is nicely decorated. A pretty large bar area in the back part in front of the kitchen. A nice outside dining area off the back. Some outdoor seating outside the main entrance. The night we ate there, it was too cold for outdoor seating. Inside, the restaurant is nicely decorated. Lots of interesting decor. But, there really is not much room inside the restaurant to wait for your table. The other negative is that this restaurant is pretty loud. Sometimes, It is hard to hear the person across from you. We weren't celebrating any birthdays, but there were a couple of birthdays there. The team came out with a variety of instruments and then wished the guest a happy birthday.
