The good? Service was great, drinks are strong (I had a spicy margarita. It wasn't spicy at all, but it was strong), and the restaurant is nicely decorated with Mexican art. It's a friendly and family oriented atmosphere. The ok? I got the burrito and enchilada, my husband got the grilled chicken tacos (soft tortilla obviously. Hard shell isn't a real taco...)... The food was kinda salty and overall, just ok. I've had better Mexican food elsewhere (and I LOVEEEE Mexican food). There's no bad. I have not been here in quite some time in fact, pre-Covid. I like how they separated the booths with a piece of wood that was nicely stained. I got the fajita chicken quesadilla, which I have to say was quite large and stuffed to the rim with fresh vegetables and the fantastic chicken! Their rice is prepared with chicken broth and really tasted good was not dried out which most Mexican restaurants due to their rice. It was rich and fluffy My family had the shrimp quesadilla did not have a lot of shrimp in it so it was kind of disappointing to see not as much shrimp as should have been. There was definitely twice the amount of chicken, however for the same price in mine. Another family member got the fajita Vegetables which looked great. The black beans I have to say were really salty tonight. That is really my unfortunate biggest disappointment. I love flavorful black beans. These did not have much flavor other than being very salty. Our waitress was kind, not as attentive as I am used to as it took a long time to get an iced tea refill, but she was generally kind. They must have a REALLY GOOD happy hour because when we got there about 15-20 minutes before 6, the bar area was packed with people and when I ordered a glass of Sauvignon Blanc, I got two glasses because it was BOGO!! I visited this Mexican restaurant on my cousin's recommendation, and I'm so glad I did. We were seated right away, which set a great tone for the experience. He was very hungry, but even he ended up full after finishing his enchiladas, so I happily helped him with the nachos! We came here on a Saturday and sat at the bar. They had Spanish music playing in the background that wasn't too loud or too soft. It was just right The decor is Mexican theme and they have booths and tables as well as a bar There was one other couple eating and we probably sat for about five minutes before the bartender approached and asked us about our drinks and brought us chips and salsa. The salsa is very good although it's very small and me and my husband finished it quite quickly and nobody came to check on us so we had to ask for more. She recommended the Don Julio $14 margarita and the jalapeño Margarita also $14. They do not have any happy hour specials on the weekends. Will you please start orders for the margarita and then she disappears and then a few minutes later a man comes behind the bar and makes mine and then had to ask my husband what it is that he wanted For a $14 margarita I'm very disappointed as you could hardly taste the tequila We each ordered a lunch special, which they do have on the weekend. Owner Needs a lesson in customer service, not to mention business! We have been going to Don Juan's for almost 5 years consistently. Dozens and dozens of visits over the those years without an issue until tonight. My wife has a food allergy and while they have not always been perfect, it's been fine because the issue was always with the side of cilantro that comes with our order and all we had to do was point it out and it was handled. Until tonight! Our appetizer came out and after a few bites it was obvious to my wife that the offending allergen was in the dish. I myself verified this by seeing/tasting/identifying the item and left it for visual inspection and verification. The server and bartender Toni (who is always fantastic) was apologetic and while she did tell us the kitchen said the dish had no issues, when we showed her she could not have been any more supportive of our cause. Then the owner himself decided to come out and take issue with us questioning that there was a mistake at all. He even brought out a visual aid for us, like that would have made a difference. Apparently, this is an owner that cannot fathom a mistake could be made by his restaurant and kitchen and was willing to argue with us regardless. There was no raised voices or finger pointing by myself or my wife, only simple concern over something very critical, food allergies. We didn't ask for anything, only that the dish was not acceptable for my wife to eat. Unconvinced and certainly not apologetic, the owner simply walked away mumbling "sorry" with his back turned to us, which might have well have been, I don't care, so leave. At no point did the owner show any concern whatsoever for my wife who had already eaten a few bites. We left and will never trust this restaurant ever again because the health and safety of my wife and myself comes first! read more

SALSA. well, looks like it was made with tomato juice, a speck of white onion a sprinkle of cilantro and a splash of hot sauce. SAD Refried Beans. At one time they may have been Refried Beans, but as they are served, they are so pureed that they have they resemble a brown paste with very little taste. It was outstanding and rated as one of the best I've had. It came with a nice jalapeño pepper sauce on the side. Ordered, a la carte, two poblano pepper chili rellenos stuffed with cheese. Some of the best ever. Large poblano peppers loaded with a delicious white cheese. I requested hot sauce and was brought some homemade sauce which was orange color. It was quite hot but was excellent with a small amount used for each bite. I let satisfied and I will go back. This was a large amount of food which worked nicely for a big appetite. One of my wife's favorite places. When I am in the dog house, we go there because it is not my favorite place. So since I am in the dog house a lot, I have strived to find my favorite thing on the menu. So far, I am making progress. First, the restaurant is very big, so there is always room for more. There is also an outside patio area but I have never seen it being used. Service is pleasant and efficient and the kitchen pays attention to special orders (no this, extra that). They have a thorough bar menu, including 50 types of tequila, which may have more to do with why my wife likes it and not so much me. Go figure, I don't drink, so what do you think? Okay. Yeah that might sound basic, but if you haven't tried their hard shell tacos yet - you are missing out. Idk how they figured it out, but whatever recipe they follow for these hard tacos... let me just say they're tough in the best way!!! They don't crack or break easily and the crunch is SO satisfying. Stopped in for lunch the other day with some friends at this spacious Mexican restaurant in San Jose Blvd. the business has mix of tables, booths and a bar area. My group was seated at a table near the servers kiosk. We were promptly seated and our server took our drink order while another person brought us chips and salsa. I ordered the lunch beef burrito meal which comes with rice and beans. The lunch burrito is not as big as the dinner portion but it is still enough for lunch. Two of my friends got the two hard taco lunch which also comes with beans and rice. Another friend got a taco salad. All food was well prepared (standard Mexican fare). Tonight we went to this restaurant that used to be a slightly upscale Mexican restaurant with good quality food and drink. We were very disappointed. I ordered a house margarita. It was unexpectedly 2 for one, which I thought was great, but it tasted like a cheap canned mix, and I couldn't even finish the first drink. My husband tasted it too, and made a sour face. We were also disappointed in the food, The burrito had only ground beef in it, without anything else to add flavor. My supreme tacos, also missed the mark a bit. We politely waited until the check came to let the waitress know that the margarita was not good. We were not looking for any compensation, just wanted them to give the owner feedback, for future improvement. The waitress politely said that they have heard that before, and seemed disinterested in passing on the information. We then approached the hostess at the door, asking about the owner and wanting to get word to him about our experience. She offered to get the manager. She let him know that we wanted to talk to him, but he was in a conversation at another table and signaled her to wait. We waited several minutes while he continued to carry on a clearly non-business conversation at the other table. Although we tried to handle things in house, clearly the manager on duty had no interest in addressing a customer complaint.
