First I will say the staff was top notch. Attentive and friendly. Unfortunately the food and drink didn't live up. For drink my wife had Iced tea. She couldn't put her finger on it but said it tasted very off. she never sends a drink back but we had to exchange the tea. When it come to the meal my wife and I had the Beef burrito con queso. My daughter had the Smothered burrito with w/ Sour Cream. Sadly the food was flavorless and tasted unseasoned. Just get a sopapilla! We had the veggie and cheese and beans and cheese, and both were fresh, crisp, and tasty. You can skip the lettuce and tomato topping - it's fine, but a little extra. If you like spice, ask for the green salsa. The complimentary chips and salsa were good and fresh. The donkey ears were also so, so delicious. I have 30+ years eating with this restaurant family. Brought my fiancé to try the mt Vernon restaurant for the first time. The beef, bean, and cheese sopapillas were fresh and hot. The staff wore masks and the restaurant was clean. My only complaint was that the salsa was really bland today. More so than usual. That made everything kinda bland. Overall, I love the restaurant refresh and I will, for sure, be back!!! read more

We were in Mount Vernon last week for a show and the place down the street was super busy. Because we didn't have a lot of time on our hands and based on decent Yelp reviews, we decided to try La Paloma. I've been around long enough to know that when you enter a so-called ethnic restaurant and don't see a single person of that ethnicity in the place that you should turn and run. But we were hungry, this place could accommodate us and the Yelp reviews were pretty good, so all should have been good. That fantasy was shattered when the chips and salsa arrived. The tortilla chips were clearly out of a bag, which is not optimal but okay with me as long as the salsa is good. I have no idea where this restaurant obtains their salsa, but if there's such a thing as extra extra mild, that's what they're serving there. Sadly, the nearly flavorless salsa was a small sample of things to come. My wife and I ordered the sopapillas, she chicken and I beef. They resembled large empanadas, with the meat and cheese encased in a kind of pie crust type of thing. It resembled a calzone. I took a bite of it and all I could taste was the lettuce and tomatoes on top. I tried again, and to my astonishment, even with a decent amount of meat and cheese inside the thing was absolutely flavorless. I get that spicy might have offended some of the local Ohio sensibilities but there was zero seasoning at all. I added an unhealthy amount of salt to it but even with that it was not good. My wife agreed, and although our daughter said that her cheese enchilada was passable, the chicken taco also lacked flavor. Now granted, I'm a lifelong Southern Californian who lived for many years in San Diego just a few miles from the Mexican border and just recently relocated to Ohio to care for my elderly mother-in-law, so I'm used to very good Mexican food. I've found a couple of very solid Mexican restaurants in Ohio, but sadly, La Paloma was not one of them. read more

This restaurant has the best Mexican food in Mount Vernon, no need to go anywhere else. I had the beef enchilada with beans and rice. Totally excellent. I have eaten at all the Mexican restaurants in town and La Paloma is by far the best. The server was in training, he took care of me like he had done it for years. The Sopapillas are amazing! Even the pizza ones are delicious! My boyfriend took me one night and I had no idea what to get! He ordered a couple chicken sopapillas and the pizza one. Safe to say we were stuffed after! Highly recommend! read more

I can appreciate the history of this family owned restaurant in small town Ohio. The waitress was friendly and professional. The service was timely. The restaurant itself was small and cozy. There was no waiting. However the complimentary chips obviously were store bought and not made there and the salsa was bland. I would expect more from a so called authentic Mexican restaurant. Same goes for the tacos whereas again the hard shells were manufactured and the ground beef wasn't very well seasoned. I can't recommend the food as authentic Mexican, but it's still a nice sit down restaurant if not wanting to cook at home or something other than pizzas or burgers. read more

This was a very clean and friendly restaurant. It was a blessing to know the history of the family and two see them involved in the restaurant while we were there. I tried Lapaloma here because we love the one in heath, and we now live here, not comparable at all. If people would try the one in heath, they'd make the drive every time. The sweet tea is out of a fountain, the chips are out of a bag. They had one waitress on the evening we visited and the place was packed. The sopapillas are excellent. We go specifically for them everytime. They put two sauces and chips on the table with your order The red sauce is mild and the green sauce is much more than mild and will lite you up. We have been coming here for years. there is a pool table in the back. I went there and was having shots of whiskey while I played pool with a friend and my brother. Their service was Very fast and I never had a problem with this place. In fact I lived down the block about three houses from this place. They never had the cops there. They never had any people fighting that I saw. and If I was in the area again I would definitely go here again. read more

The food was sloppy, overpriced, and I'm pretty sure they used canned tomato sauce normally used in Italian food for their salsa. It was gross and no amount of hot sauce helps with this! Go to Taco Bell and save yourself some money. read more
