A few locals told me to check this place out, so I stopped by yesterday. The restaurant is big, and it looks like they're getting ready to open up a wine and bar area, which will be a good addition. The staff were super friendly and accommodating. I went with the shredded beef burrito and an order of sopapilla. The burrito was huge and packed with shredded beef that was really flavorful. Definitely not skimpy on the filling. The sopapilla is kind of like a fluffy fried doughnut and paired well with honey. I added some sliced bananas on top and it turned into a good dessert. The food was ok, I appreciated it was homemade and had a decent flavor; but was surprised by the shredded potatoes in my beef taco....shredded potatoes were not listed in the ingredients. My group was large and I understand that can be confusing for waitstaff, but when you have multiple orders and many of them are wrong, ie, order beef enchiladas and only get tortillas, chile and cheese or you order chile on the side, and the waiter confirms verbally yet still brings you chile on top...you wonder what happened in the kitchen. My husband and I spent a 9 days traveling through New Mexico for vacation. And to eat. We are a lot of amazing things all over the state, but our favorite meal was here. It's an unassuming cafe filled with regulars (everyone seemed to know each other!). I was blown away with how good everything was. And it was their sopaipilla that blew me away. I'd been sampling them at so many places, but this was was perfection. Fluffy, chewy, crunchy and delicious - and served as the base for the Navajo taco. My husband's combo plate consisted of a Gordita, enchilada and an empanada - and again, each one of these items was the best we had during our travels. We ate at some amazing farm to table restaurants on our road trip but when thinking about our best dining experiences, this one rises to the top. I ordered the two tostadas w/beans and rice plate and asked them to leave off the hamburger meat and give me a fried egg instead. It came with blue corn tortillas, of course, and the rice and beans were excellent. My companion ordered the tamales and was very pleased to find them made with more filling and less masa than usual, just the way she likes them. The service was great as was the music on the audio system -- high quality, instrumental mariachi -- atmospheric but not sappy. If we didn't live in central AZ, eating here along with the many local regulars would be a weekly ritual. read more

I finally got around to visiting La Pasadita last week, after it's long been the only restaurant in Socorro I haven't tried. Well, I'm amazed it took me so long, as La Pasadita is a top choice in town. First, the limitations to know: the hours are limited to lunchtime only and they're also cash only, not common in Socorro. Well, that's the bad news. Other than that, La Pasadita is excellent. The restaurant is small and very casual, and the staff were very friendly. I had the chimichanga plate which was fantastic, and we also enjoyed excellent sopaipillas. All in all, I'd say La Pasadita delivered my favorite New Mexican lunch in Socorro, and all at a very reasonable price. If you're looking for lunch I'd definitely head here. My party was treated to incredible food... try the blue corn carne adovada enchilada, which is generously filled with tender morsels of pork, a fried egg, garnish and sides of rice and pinto beans, smothered with red chile which has been simmering slowly, as is evident in the well developed and rich flavor. Also, try the empanadas de carne...the potato and meat filled pastry is fried to a golden brown hue. The flaky pastry, which is beautifully hand crimped, holds hand cubed potatoes and beef simmered in spices.
