Combo #1 - taco, tamale, taquito with rice and beans
    Jordan J.

This is a great hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Socorro. I had the Combo #1 and my wife had the taquito plate. These were delicious. It was one of those experiences where you aren't sure from outside the restaurant, except that the tiny parking lot is busy, then you step inside and see how busy the restaurant is. We will be back. (No beer or other alcohol, so if you're looking for that kind of vibe, this place doesn't have it.)

My husband and I spent a 9 days traveling through New Mexico for vacation. And to eat. We are a lot of amazing things all over the state, but our favorite meal was here. It's an unassuming cafe filled with regulars (everyone seemed to know each other!). I was blown away with how good everything was. And it was their sopaipilla that blew me away. I'd been sampling them at so many places, but this was was perfection. Fluffy, chewy, crunchy and delicious - and served as the base for the Navajo taco. My husband's combo plate consisted of a Gordita, enchilada and an empanada - and again, each one of these items was the best we had during our travels. We were driving through Socorro and didn't spend much time in the area, but if we had we probably would have had every meal here.

Great food. Great service with great recommendations on food. Highly recommend this quaint little spot off the beaten path.

We ate at some amazing farm to table restaurants on our road trip but when thinking about our best dining experiences, this one rises to the top. I ordered the two tostadas w/beans and rice plate and asked them to leave off the hamburger meat and give me a fried egg instead. It came with blue corn tortillas, of course, and the rice and beans were excellent. My companion ordered the tamales and was very pleased to find them made with more filling and less masa than usual, just the way she likes them. The service was great as was the music on the audio system -- high quality, instrumental mariachi -- atmospheric but not sappy. If we didn't live in central AZ, eating here along with the many local regulars would be a weekly ritual.

Driving through from the VLA and hungry! Found this place on Yelp, as we were driving partner questioned me regarding the location - trust the GPS! Don't judge a book by its cover. Food was good and it was neat hearing the locals talk! Seems everyone knew each other.

    Navajo Taco

This is quite possibly the best Mexican food I have ever had. Service was great and food came quickly. I highly recommend the Navajo Taco or the chimichanga plate.

Just ok. The pork in my carne adovado burrito was not tender, although the sauce was good.

Great traditional Mexican food at a fair price. They DO take credit cards now! The chimichanga was our favorite.

One of my colleagues used to work in Socorro, so she was happy to be our tour guide for that segment of the trip, sharing personal anecdotes, fun facts, local insights, and other background on Socorro County. After our meeting and brief windshield tour, we ended up at Desert Diamond for lunch, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant is a no-frills mom and pop that specializes in New Mexican cuisine. There was a decent crowd in the restaurant for the lunch rush, and all signs indicated that this place would be solid. Once we were seated, and I had a chance to scan the menu, I quickly landed on the stuffed sopaipillas since I had never had that particular dish before. About ten minutes later, our meals were expertly delivered to our table in perfect unison. The stuffed sopaipilla came out piping hot and extremely well-seasoned. I decided to enjoy the moment and indulge, effortlessly reinstating my membership in the Clean Plate Club!

I had the chicken burrito plate with green chili on the side. The chili was spicy for sure and absolutely had to go on the burrito because it was otherwise entirely bland. The rice was dry, beans were ok. The highlight of the meal was the sopaipilla with honey. Very tasty. Hard rock from the 70s and 80s was playing. Interesting vibe, not what I expected.

But... oh no... this chimi is HUGE, smothered, and no way we could eat these in the car, lol. We had no idea! We had to wait until we got home to even think about starting on these colossal things. And they were delicious! Not the best, but certainly very good. I was a little put off, as I had ordered the asada chimi... what I got was mostly beans and lettuce. But still... it was good... just that beans are off of my diet and there was very little meat. Overall decent experience and is our new "goto" when driving through. Sadly, though, it looks like they are for sale? There were plenty of customers when we got there and when we left. Not a hoard of them, but consistent. Both inside and at the drive-thru.
