What a hidden gem. This lace used to be a Pizza Hut, you can tell by the building shape. It is also next to another "Mexican" Restaurant which caters to the after church crowd. However, La Patrona is actual legit South American/mexican food. The inside was clean. The menus were easy to read and describes the items in English. We were seated at asked what we wanted to drink. They have Coke fountain drinks as well as aqua fresca, beer and a think some bottled drinks. I went with a Coke Zero. It was 10am so my foodie companion ordered the breakfast sandwich and I ordered a jalapeño con queso papusa. The papusa comes with the red sauce and the Cole slaw stuff. It was on point! So delicious and filled with queso that had a great cheese pull. The torta was on soft bread, stuffed full of meat, cheese and egg. It is served with a salsa verde and a habanero sauce in the bottles. The verde was tasty but certainly had a spicy kick. This place is going to be my new Sunday breakfast spot. I have to agree with the other reviews calling this a hidden gem! The food is amazing. Do yourself a favor and order el Caldo de Mariscos. It's soooooo good! First time I tried it, I kept craving it every week lol thank God for UberEats. They're super generous with the portions. Especially with the caldo de res too. Pupusas are bomb. Their salsas are perfect. Waitresses are incredibly kind and friendly! Excellent service. Oh and the breakfast? El tipico is my favorite. My mom and I always come here for breakfast on the weekends. Went for lunch with some work colleagues. Arrived at about 12:00 noon on a Tuesday and there was no one in the restaurant and by the time we left there were 3 other tables, so a bit slow. The decor and ambience was light and very pleasant and parking was good since it was in a shopping centre. Food was great. Not the typical Tex Mex at all (which is good before I don't do Tex Mex) but was authentic Central American cuisine. Food came out fairly fast and the service was great. Our waitress could not speak much English but she more than made up for that with her cheerful service and attitude. We had zero problems ordering. An unassuming building that used to house a Pizza Inn and then Q-Shi, wedged between a Chicken chain, Texas Poker and El Palenque, this restaurant is absolutely worth hunting down. Houston is home to some quality Tex-Mex but it's infrequent that we find a place that ventures into other Latina cuisine. This place pays homage to El Salvador, Columbia and the Honduras among others. Enter the building and you are greeted by a marvelously designed selfie wall that tallies their likes on social media. Cute and current. But it's the food that will keep you coming. My plate was a celebration of many cultures with a Colombian sausage, arepas, fried pork belly, carne asada and a pupusa. We also had Monterey street tacos and finished with an excellent coffee. They have house made sauces (and if it says it melts your face off, it does. I was sitting next door getting gas when I noticed this place. Having never noticed it, I did a quick spot-check on Yelp - only 2 reviews, but they were solid. So...I decided perform my customary community service and check the place out. I ordered a few things off the menu - some tacos, a pupusa, and a kids quesadilla for my son. When the food came out, I was mildly prepared on what to expect. The tacos: The tortilla was at or near perfection. It had the perfect balance of texture, flavor, and temperature. I could have eaten there by themselves and been happy. The contents of the tacos were all very flavorful and temperature hot - the taco contents were well equipped, quantity wise. Very happy with the tacos. The pupusa: *Moment of silence* followed by *fireworks* Geez this thing was good. Between the flavor and the arm workout of stretching the cheese clear over my head when I broke it apart - this thing was amazing. Cheesiness everywhere. I loved everything about this place and can't wait to come back and explore the menu in deeper fashion. Decent menu. Ordered pupusas and caldo. I would put their food mid-tier. The flavors were not great but acceptable for a quick lunch. Not many employees and could be a problem if it gets busy. Service is some what average with no offers of refills or recommendations. Prices are a bit high even for pupusas. Probably acceptable for big city prices, but nearly $3 ea is a stretch for what I tasted. read more

Wow! I stumbled upon this place when I was at Academy. I was craving some breakfast and was going to go to my usual but I stumbled upon this place behind El Palenque and next to Hartz. This is some of the tastiest Latin food (El Salvadoran) I've had in a long time. I ordered the huevos divorciados. The eggs were cooked to perfection (not too hard, not too soft) and the red Ave green sauce and hot sauces, along with the fresh flour tortillas were unbelievably good. Omg. The food here is sooooo good! I ordered the Desayuno Pupusa, my husband ordered the Chilaquiles verdes, we also ordered the Tamales de Elote (forgot to take a picture). Ya'll that's 2-3 different cultures of food and it was ALL so yummy. I feel like normally if restaurants focus on too many cultures something is not going to be good. That's not the case here. We were greeted with the bubbliest welcome by the young girl at the checkout desk. I would like to mention though, the older waitress does not seem to be as friendly BUT I think she's like me and has the case of a RBF. If you know you know. We're kind and generous people but our face says otherwise. I'm giving them 5 stars although that was a little off putting. Also, the restaurant itself is so cute on the inside, i was expecting a hole in the wall type environment but was pleasantly surprised to see the oposite. I've only ever had the popusas and tacos but that's all I want because they're really good. I recommend the tortillas made of corn - they look and taste homemade - and the chicharron popusas. When I entered the restaurant they have a cute selfie area however the staff did not welcome us in. They stared at us and I had to ask if it was self seating and they continued on their cell phones. The To-Go order was packaged well and very neat. The Order was correct, the food was authentic and very good, hit on all the flavors. I ate every bite my only complaint is the tamale although very tasty had a big chicken bone inside. Apart from that the tortillas (flour) were homemade and good! The menudo was very, very good it had a twist instead of hominy it had veggies. Different but tasty. The chicken tacos were very good, beef fajita were also good. Awesome food a lot of it from Honduras which was new for us very tasty. It was also not very expensive and everything was very fresh.

Unfortunately it was not a good experience. I went for their breakfast tacos with my husband. First they didn't have items from the menu, they were out. So we had a simple order of two breakfast tacos each. not many people there. Once we got the order, it was completely wrong. The waitress instead of apologizing, argued that that is what we ordered. I ate half my order and it was not good. The pupusas were delicious. My husband's order, was old rancid meat. He did not eat. The waitress did charge us for everything even what we did not order that we did not eat. We gladly paid and will never go there again. I was excited to try a new place based on their menu items.
