I had a good experience at la cocina de Roberto. Service was great, and the food was good & not too expensive. Nowadays it feels like all texmex places charge absurd prices, but I was very pleasantly surprised with the value here. $13 for a place of enchiladas suizas is a great deal. I was just a bit disappointed by the enchiladas, the chicken was a bit dry. But the beans and rice were good. Also though my Jamaica agua Fresca could have used a bit more hibiscus flavor. Service was super awesome here. I was sat right away, immediately served, and my food came out in less than 5 min, which is crazy. My waiter was really awesome. Overall, I will probably come back for brunch next time . But service and value is really great here. read more

This is one of my husband's favorite restaurants in all of Houston! (I love it too!) Their chips and salsa are not complimentary, but they are so delicious, you will not find any better anywhere! And its really worth going just for that! My husband loves the Carne Asada Tacos. I'm much more traditional with the crispy beef tacos. I stopped in Wednesday night and had great meal of Mahi-Mahi. Food always tastes better with great service and Ady did not disappoint. My meal was her recommendation and they also have a hotter salsa (mas picoso) upon request. Thursday after noon I tried the Quesabirrias and really enjoyed the dish. I'm a fan! STREET TACOS 3/5: comes with 5 mini corn tacos You can choose up to 2 meats. I chose carne asada and barbacoa. Both were dry and over cooked. Rescued with the green and red sauces- I chose to use both. Charro beans were flavorful with large chunks of pork and veggies. SKINNY MARGARITA: 5/5 able to chose to rim the glass with tajin, salt, or sugar. I chose salt and upgraded the tequila to Don Julio Blanco. The drink was fresh and fruity- I liked the orange notes. I'm visiting from California where Mexican food is wayyy better than Texas. This place is the exception! Everything was soo good, so much flavor in each bite leaving you craving for more. Pros: staff was friendly, space is small and intimate, restrooms were clean, our server was great and drinks were good! Cons: I got the chicken flautas and the chicken was bland and dry. The queso we got for the table was obviously store bought melted velveeta or something. Not scratch made. The guacamole was also bland, needed more seasoning and maybe a Serrano pepper. $2 for a small side of sour cream (which imo should be included free of charge with the dish) and $1 or $2 for a half of an avocado.. It's located in a gas station building and if we hadn't looked on Yelp for a new place to try we would have drove past this place and never given it a second though; so glad we stopped. On the 45 South feeder before you get to the Longhorn. Not your run of the mill Mexican restaurant, so if you're looking for free chips and salsa ($5 here) or cheese enchiladas keep driving. I didn't see cheese enchiladas on the menu so I didn't ask. Got there after 1:00 pm and there was still a bustling lunch crowd but plenty of seating. I ordered the Baja Fish Tacos ($15.) About a week ago I was dogsitting for my friend who lives in the Woodlands. Tuesday rolls around so I'm curious what am I gonna do for taco Tuesday and then trusty YELP comes in and points me here. Making the 16 minute drive from the residence, I put in an order online through the Toast app before putting the gear into Drive mode and made my way here. Location seemed a bit weird given it's in a very tiny strip mall with a couple stores surrounding it. But upon walking in, I'm hit with the smells and sounds that I love about tacos: grease, char, searing jalapenos, melted butter; then hearing some latino music, some conversations en espanol; I knew I was gonna like these. The nice lady behind the counter gave me my order with some extra salsa and then I made the mad yet careful dash home to unwrap and enjoy the concoctions. So my order consisted of the following: Carnitas taco Barbacoa taco Street tacos (carne asada x2, chorizo x3) The carnitas and barbacoa tacos had that grease and char with some crispiness to both meats. It's why I usually order them at any taco spot! The street tacos also were delicious; I appreciate the packaging and serving them with the grilled onions and jalapeno, a nice touch. The carne asada, not too tough and the chorizo gave that orangish grease drip when the tacos are folded. Street tacos also come with some charro beans, tender and flavorful in the broth and mixed with those scallions and ham mixed in. I appreciate the corn tortillas as well, perfect texture where they aren't too soft and they use yellow corn instead of white corn. Hey, presentation is key sometimes! Only gripe was I ordered 3 carne asada & 2 chorizo for the street tacos and they flipped them. Not too disappointed since they all tasted great but orders should be accurate, especially online to go orders. Aside from that, I'm glad to find a good taco spot in the Woodlands area! read more

Weren't necessarily the best street tacos I've had but good enough to warrant a recommendation or return if in the area again. Good service here too. This place absolutely rocks! We don't do Tex-Mex anymore--Central American flavors rule & are similar but way healthier and fresher without compromising on taste. Our go-to appetizer is the Fried Yuca--always bomb. The house margaritas are amazing, stout & made with real ingredients (no pre-mixed high fructose syrup poison). For the main, we love the Steak & Chicken fajitas for two, with added shrimp. Portions are generous, and the meats are thick, juicy, and never skimpy. Price is nice too! We go all out (1 appetizer, fajitas for 2, split desert, 2-3 drinks total) usually around $ 75 or so before tip... The only downside is their website--it's missing details on fajitas for two and doesn't mention their fantastic margaritas made with real ingredients. Highly recommend for anyone craving authentic, fresh Central American flavors in a laid-back spot. read more

We were so excited to try this place! Our server was nice, but the food was shockingly disappointing! Refried beans had no flavor, tasted like they scooped them straight out of a can from Sam's. Queso tasted like nothing more than melted Velveta, again no seasoning, no bits of anything yummy found in it. The cilantro rice was so dry it wasn't worth eating and it was served at room temperature. I asked for soft flour tortillas to go with my meal, ya know the kind that come with fajita. But they came out fried. One good note: The fried plantains appetizer were the best part of the meal, wish we had stopped there. I really did want to LOVE this place-- but I do think there's better options around. Starting with the queso: I agree that "queso" is totally an Americanized concept, especially with our own twist on it here in Texas. It seemed like they wanted to cater to people's Queso needs, so literally just melted some cheese, threw it in a bowl and are profiting off of it. I'd say if there's no pride in a dish, just don't have it! That's totally acceptable. The tacos were great, but given the location, there's TONS of places nearby to find authentic tacos like these. The other dishes we got were just "bleh." Nothing too exciting. The restaurant was clean and well maintained. The service was slow, though. Especially being the only people there. I think because we could drive 10 minutes and find a really good taco truck, we wouldn't try this place again. read more

I like the ambiance, it was calm with nice music. I also liked that there are several windows so the place is well lit up (except for the tables in the back). I went on a weekday morning and 3/4 of the restaurant were occupied. I loved that every waitress had a smile on her face, they were all very friendly and comfortable talking to customers and taking their time to listen to them. It almost felt like a social gathering, maybe those customers were regulars. I loved that. The prices were also affordable and we also loved that! I gave it 3 stars because: 1. The tortillas in my chilaquiles were very soggy and red salsa was not the flavor I expected. 2. The beans were very blended, they were more like a paste, didn't feel refried. While I understand people like beans and tortillas like that, it is not my personal liking. 3. One thing I am finding over and over again is that shredded chicken is not available unless it comes Tinga style (I am 100% against Tinga chicken on enchiladas, chilaquiles, or tostadas). 4. This place is not necessarily Mexican, the waitress told me it is more like a "latin food" kind of restaurant. I didn't like that since Latin food is so diverse, what I saw on the menu didn't have a focus, it felt like a very general kind of food. Again some people might like that, there is nothing wrong with that, I just didn't like that. 5. I wasn't all that crazy about dessert options either.
