To use a debit or credit card they charge $.50 Square charges the vendor 2.75% For processing. I bought a Jarritos for $2.00 and they charged $2.50 Really a 25% up charge? On an $18 order they would pay $.55 to Square But they choose to up charge customers for what is a Necessary service. The prices of their items are significantly marked up already so for them to penalize you for not using cash is bad business. Good vendors don't gouge customers for using a card. They want to encourage cash so they don't have to report accurate income for taxes. read more

Unassuming taco truck in the lot off Chapel St next to Foot Locker "tres tacos, un al pastor, un pollo, un res con cebolla y cilantro y salsa" does not translate to "3 tacos with lettuce & tomato" just because i'm a gringo doesn't mean you have to "dumb down" your food for me. I make sure to stop by the I-95 taco trucks in New Haven CT every time I commute between Boston and NYC. To be honest all these trucks on wharf drive are all equally fantastic, made fresh in front of you with flavorful meats for awesome prices. Also be sure to brush up on on a little Spanish before you stop by. But while I try to sample them all, La Patrona has had me coming back a few times. I can't seem to put my finger on it. Maybe it's the loud happy music he blasts and the large array of condiments and homemade toppings he has besides the window. Or perhaps it's the chairs with drink holders he puts out in front of the truck with the the view of both highway and the Long Island sound. Not every other truck on Wharf drive does add these extras to your street meat experience (highway meat?). But really it's probably his super delicious tacos and tortas that have a choice of like 8 different meats to choose from. All tacos come with choice of meat on 2 corn tortillas topped with onion and cilantro, with lime wedge and radish on the side. I love adding the green salsa and the fresh pico de gallo. We recently tried the alambras, which is chorizo and pork sautéed with peppers and onions and melty cheese with tortillas and avocado on the side. It was literally enough for 3 people, I gave the rest to the boyfriend and he gobbled it all up. These trucks will be the sole reason why I will never be able to be a 100% vegetarian. read more

Has become my go-to Mexican delivery option thanks to UberEATS. I typically get a burrito and my favorite is definitely the pork burrito. I like their regular pork burrito better than their version of the pastor burrito. The Tacos Placeros is incredibly tasty if you can't decide on which meat you want...the chorizo adds a ton of flavor. The burritos are huge and grilled which is a nice touch. It's extremely cost-effective and delicious. I can't comment on the "location" but am loving this as a delivery option when I'm feeling lazy and it goes great with my top notch margaritas. read more

I love food trucks, let's just put that out there. I've been driving (and by driving, I mean riding along as a passenger as my wife drives) 95 by Long Warf Drive in New Haven for YEARS without stopping at the food trucks lined up there. Finally, the timing worked out and we stopped. We chose La Patrona because they seemed the most friendly toward, and willing to help out, the two--obviously confused--white girls. I ordered the Tostadas with beef, my wife got the Torta with pork. Both were absolutely excellent; I wish I hadn't had a large breakfast before leaving New Jersey because I couldn't finish! Seriously, my ONLY complaint: the plastic fork was NOT up to the Tostadas so I was compelled to eat strictly with my hands--no easy feat while sitting on the ground on a breezy day. A lot of times when I eat "Mexican" food, I can't taste individual ingredients because so much is flavorless--typically, one ingredient overpowers everything else. That was not the case here. The flavors of the ingredients stood out from one another AND melded together to render each bite totally satisfying; it was hard to put the food down because I didn't want to stop eating. It was difficult to understand the person taking the order because his English skills aren't exemplary, we're sitting on the side of a highway, AND they had the music so damn loud I could barely hear my wife; the poor kid (and us) were doomed from the start. Again, this is a FOOD TRUCK. I know they are all hipster and becomeing "gourmet" and shit, but it's still some person in a TRUCK, cooking food; take it for what it is. Of all the tacos at long wharf, this place is my favorite. You can't miss the bright yellow truck. I've ordered everything on the menu.....(not at the same time). Tacos are a go to, but if you're starving, the burrito is the size of a toddler and the quesadilla is like 11lbs. Torta is slamming and alambre is the best I've ever had. If you don't speak Spanish its cool. The menu is on the side of the truck along with pictures. 3 or 4 different hot sauces, Pico de gallo, roasted jalapenos, and onion and habenero, all laid out for you to add to your dish. How many times have I gone to a restaurant, ordered the $18 fish tacos, and have been completely disappointed. The fish tacos here are about three dollars and the best I've had anywhere. The soft corn tortilla is filled with perfectly fried, crispy fish, lettuce tomato and topped with their own special sauce. They not only taste good but they also look great. Sorry, I ate them too fast to take a picture. You're have to come and see them for yourself. Also the staff of the truck are extremely friendly and welcoming. La Patrona I surely believed that there was not going to be a review for La Patrona on Yelp because the average yelper (opinionated hipster) would probably never eat here. Which is ok. I'd rather you not. As someone should have said to the Mayflower when it first arrived, turn around and go back. But, we are here now, and someone has written a review on this food truck already, so I feel compelled to rebuke and review. The reason why most yelpers would not eat here is because the truck itself looks overly foreign, there is Mexican music playing, and the owner does not speak English that well. Eating at La Patrona food truck is not the choice you would make if you are: * A fan of food trends, * Make an effort to eat at the newest restaurants just to write a review, * If you can honestly say you like Taco Bell, * and are lazy -both mentally and physically. I understand why the previous review said that they only ate here because it was the closest thing to their work. I understand why previous reviewer spoke Spanish to the cook, and complained when he got the order wrong. The reason is because this food is so good, it is not for you. The cook is a guy that is making some of the best food you can eat and he is doing it early in the morning and throughout the day. The tacos are better than what you could have at any Mexican restaurant chain or not chain, unless you go to Mexico. With every bite you can taste the hard work and honesty. If you can find the truck, then please don't go here without an open mind. We found La Patrona while driving through New Haven on the 95 highway going north back to Boston. The giant mural of the Virgin Mary on the truck caught my eye and my girlfriend and I decided to get off the highway and find this place. Not too familiar with the area, I want to say that on this day the truck was located off the high way on long wharf drive. It was 9:30am and the smell of the food was wonderful, the morning sun was shining, the water from the bay was glistening, and the Mexican music was blaring. We were 2 of his first customers. I was surprised to see beef tongue on the menu, next time I go back I am going to have one of those, but in my urgency to try the food I ordered two pork tacos. So I just got 3 chicken tacos from La Patrona at Long Wharf. This is the first time I've gotten anything from these trucks but I've had my share of New Haven vendor food as well as Mexican food. The soft tortillas were just that, soft, and had food flavor on their own. The taco consisted of the chicken, cilantro, onion and "sauce" which I'm assuming is a little hot sauce that they make because it had a little heat to it which was just right for my liking. They also had the option for me to put a few toppings in myself outside of the truck in a triple slow cooker. I went with the grilled onions because I love onions, they were what you'd expect from grilled onions. They also had a bowl of onions mixed with possibly vinegar and some other things I'm not quite sure but I threw that on one taco as well, I would get it again.
