I have been meaning to stop here for quite some time and finally stumbled in on a rainy morning. Quiet and unassuming on the block, this lovely locale is a breath of fresh air and full of warmth as soon as you step in. From the extremely clean space, sleek and minimal decor, and honey-like ambient lighting throughout, I just felt like I was developed in golden sunshine when I walked in. I was really impressed by all of the different nooks for seating from booths to two-tops to spaces that look dedicated for those looking to get some solo work done. I can see this being a really great spot for coffee dates, study dates, or even those who need a change of scenery for a remote work. The staff was incredibly welcoming and warm, helping me navigate the various options on the menu and I really appreciated that being it was my first time. Now onto the good stuff! I made my way over to order and was really impressed by the variety of goodies on display in the pastry case. I had yet to eat breakfast so I opted for the spinach tart for something savory, but trust me when I say I'll be back for dessert! For a caffeine boost, I enjoyed trying one of the samples of their traditional coffees (Mofawer) which did not disappoint and ultimately chose the Yemeni latte. I can tell they took their time making it with love, and the cinnamon dusted camel on top, put the biggest smile on my face! First time here, and glad to find a coffee spot that has Yemeni coffee. The shop is spacious, nicely decorated in a middle eastern style. Parking is limited and paid parking. Our visit to Arwa Yemeni Coffee was a bit of a mixed bag, though there's definitely a lot to like. The pastries were a highlight, especially the pistachio "little nests," which were delicate, flavorful, and worth going out of your way for. The Yemeni lattes were also solid, rich and aromatic without being overly sweet. The space itself is beautiful, with a warm and thoughtfully designed interior that makes it a great spot to sit and unwind. It's the kind of café that immediately catches your eye and invites you to stay a while. That said, the service didn't quite match the atmosphere. The staff came across as a bit distant and not particularly welcoming, which took away from the overall experience. A little more warmth would go a long way here. Still, between the pastries and the setting, it's a place with plenty of appeal, even if it doesn't fully come together. read more

If you need to sit for many hours and do work or yap with your friends, This is a great spot. The prices are high but the drinks are good. The baristas are attentive and the place is pretty large so there are various seating options. If you are looking for somewhere to eat and get full this is not your place! I don't think I'd come back here unless I needed to really focus on some work. read more

#42 in my NEW ENGLAND & NY COFFEE SHOP SERIES A new Yemeni coffee shop just opened in New Haven, and it's a great addition to the area. The space is huge with lots of indoor seating, making it an awesome spot to study, work, or catch up with friends. That said, it can get very busy, and during peak times it can be tough to find a seat. I ordered the date palm latte, and it was delicious, especially if you're a fan of dates. It had a really nice, natural sweetness and was one of the more unique drinks I've had in a while. My friend got the strawberry matcha latte, which was also very good. They make the strawberry milk in-house, and you can definitely taste the difference. Overall, all of our drinks were solid, and I'd absolutely come back to try more, especially the Yemeni-style coffees. We also tried a few pastries (cream cheese honeycomb, hot dog, and cheesecake), and unfortunately they were pretty underwhelming. None of them really stood out, which was a bit disappointing compared to how good the drinks were. Overall, this is a great place for coffee, studying, and hanging out. I'd definitely return for the drinks and atmosphere, but I'd probably skip the food next time. read more

Arwa is a new Yemeni style coffee shop in New Haven. From their website, it looks like Arwa is a small national chain with fewer than 10 locations in places like Texas, Illinois and California. Look at CT playing with the Big States! LOL Arwa is on the part of Orange Street adjacent to The Loop and the neighboring apartments. The space is large and has dramatic design elements. They have a lot of seating and for a new place, they're already fairly busy. Especially, given that college is on break. There were people visiting and working. In fact, my friend had been there three times this week. Great sign for a new coffee shop. I have had Yemeni coffee one other time. So I am by no means an expert. The menu had a number of options I wasn't familiar with. I'm an iced coffee drinker. There was some initial confusion about what could and couldn't be made iced, which is obviously the type of thing that gets worked out when a new spot opens. I ended up ordering an Iced Pistachio Latte with whole milk. I normally drink coffee black so the creaminess is a new experience. I was initially struck by the lack of pistachio flavor, but the coffee was good nonetheless. There ended up being more pistachio flavor on the bottom. I'm not sure if more experienced Yemeni style coffee drinkers know to stir to distribute the flavor, if the drink is meant to have more flavor at the bottom or if they're still learning the art of making these drinks. In any event, it was reasonably good. And I enjoyed talking with my friend in the roomy environment. 4 Stars read more

Didn't know what to expect but pleasantly surprised and impressed with the quality of food and drinks. Friendly staff, very relaxed vibe in the room. Walls are reminiscent of middle eastern architecture with high ceilings and wall art. Lots of tables and seating, plenty of room to maneuver around the space. Bathrooms were very clean and spacious. Tables and chairs outside offer a pleasant option to enjoy nice weather especially the current summer warmth. I'm not a fan of franchises but I'll definitely make an exception for this place. read more

Loved this spot. We tried the date palm matcha & date palm lattee and both were so good in taste and unique the quality of the coffee was so good. I love the coffee shop too very big and very welcoming, and they had a lot of games to play there too and a prayer rug as well.we will def be back. The service was very attentive as well. read more

Solid coffee & study spot! Walk-ins welcome but can be insanely packed on the weekends. Really extensive menu, can be a little overpriced but also what coffee place isn't these days. Would 100% recommend the black honeycomb & sand dune latte (pictured) read more

I'm a fan ;) It's pretty modern inside but definitely still displays Yemeni culture... I love how there is lots of seating. My date latte was superb, I will definitely be coming back. I would have liked for the bottom syrup to have been incorporated/mixed with the milk & espresso, as the layered look is not important to me (taste & experience is) but it's not the end of the world. read more

Arwa is the most beautiful space with delicious coffee and tea. My favorite tea is the Adeni Tea. The Mofawer coffee is out of this world. They have a selection of pastries that are beautiful to look at but as I'm a calorie Conscious senior I've been able to pass thus far. There is always a crowd of people of varying ages working, socializing and enjoying Themselves. The brothers have made a huge investment in the beautiful space showcasing the ancient Architecture of Yemen. Go to Arwa. You'll love it. Unlike any other coffee shop I've ever visited. read more

I was lucky enough to visit this delightful coffee shop this Sunday after Valentines. Dreading to do all of my homework that I had put off, I traveled to Arwa's hoping to get lost with a good cup of coffee and a book. And boy oh boy did they not disappoint. A lovely barista by the name of Sonja assisted me and I can honestly say that she made my day. I was completely stuck on what drink to pick (as I normally only indulge in iced tea), so this wonderful employee went out of her way to help me pick. She put up with me and all of my questions surrounding almost every item on the menu before I settled on the Yemeni Latte. She said it was her personal favorite and I will honestly be returning to drink this again. The service was incredibly fast and I felt like I was treated as more than just an opportunity to make a quick tip by her and all the other employees. The vibe of the cafe was excellent and coupled with the latte, it allowed me to finish not one, but two essays. Thanks Sonja and Arwa for a wonderful day and the best nu study location! read more
