I called for a checkup on a new floater that I was concerned may be the start of a retina detachment. They scheduled me in same day and Dr. Lum was so wonderful. He was thorough and explained everything and ran an extra test which showed I had nothing to worry about. Gave me a referral for an ophthalmologist for follow-up. So nice to know it wasn't an emergency. He is one of my favorite doctors here. read more

Value: Fortunately, I have insurance which helps, but even without, the out of pocket for new lenses is fair. Overall: I actually came here last year but forgot to Yelp. I came in again today for an annual eye exam. I felt I had a very thorough examination which is reassuring. Happily brought my wife given my great experience last year. I can't say enough great things about this optical store! I stopped by during the busy holiday season because once again I waited until the very last minute and I needed to use my vision benefits before year end and I was on vacation in SoCal. I was worried they wouldn't be able to squeeze me in--but the staff went above and beyond to accommodate me at the last minute to book an eye exam and also picked out some glasses that fit my budget and covered by my benefits. Everyone was incredibly friendly, patient, and knowledgeable. They took the time to answer all my questions and made the entire process smooth and stress-free. A special thank you to Nancy, the manager, for her professionalism and kindness. She handled everything with such efficiency and warmth, especially during what I know is one of the busiest times of the year. Her leadership really shows in how well the store is run. Update: After posting this review, La Paz Optometric Center contacted me, apologized for what happened, and worked with us to resolve the situation. I appreciate the follow-up and their willingness to address the issues. Overall, I'm happy with how everything was resolved. Original Review: I want to be clear that this experience didn't start off poorly. I initially liked my visit with the optometrist and, based on that first impression, I encouraged my husband to come here as well. In hindsight, that recommendation was premature. My own glasses were completed in under two weeks, but the prescription was incorrect. The doctor told me that a PRK procedure I had over a decade ago had eliminated my astigmatism, despite the prior prescription I sent in before my exam clearly showing astigmatism correction. I noticed the mismatch immediately on my drive home. Things were out of focus and lights appeared like Christmas lights. I returned to the office and was re-examined by a different optometrist, who was thorough and did identify the astigmatism that had been missed. I also want to note that Giovanna, the optician who helped fit my glasses when I first picked them up, before I realized the prescription was wrong, was very kind and professional. At the same time, we waited two weeks for my husband's glasses with no updates. When he called for a status check, he was placed on a long hold and then told someone would call him back. No one did. When I later called, I was also placed on a long hold and was then told there had been a quality control error and his lenses needed to be remade. This information was not proactively shared. We were told the glasses might arrive before New Year's and that we would be called on New Year's Eve if they came in that day so we could pick them up. No one called. As a failsafe, we were advised to schedule a January 2 pickup appointment and were assured the glasses would definitely be ready by then. On the morning of January 2, I called to confirm and learned they still had not arrived. Again, no one had contacted us. Had I not called, we would have driven there unnecessarily. Delays happen, but consistent communication and follow-through matter. Unfortunately, that's where this experience repeatedly fell short. read more

When I found this optometric center 6 years ago, I have been coming back here ever since. They have a large selection of frames (a big factor as to why I come here), the staff provides excellent customer service and is always friendly, it's clean and neat inside, they have the latest technology for your eyes, and overall I always have a wonderful experience coming here. Dr Sako, Dr Truong, and everyone else at La Paz optometric offer the best eye care experience around. They have been caring for my eyes since I was a young lad and I would never think of going to anyone else. They have helped many of my friends and family as well with glasses, contacts, check ups, cataracts, and LASIK referrals! Extremely Disappointing Experience I went to this optometrist hoping to get a proper diagnosis for my eye issue, only to find out after I arrived that they couldn't help me simply because I'm breastfeeding. This is something they should have clearly mentioned before booking the appointment. Instead, they let me come all the way, waste my time, and charge me for a visit they knew they couldn't provide any real help with. It's completely unprofessional and inconsiderate especially for new moms who already have limited time. If you're breastfeeding or have any specific health considerations, I suggest going somewhere more transparent and respectful of patients' time and money. read more

I do not write reviews, my experiences with customer service have fallen within the expected level of service. I refuse to waste energy on a negative review. This time I am taking the time to share the amazing customer service I received from James Mares at La Paz Optometric. I have been with La Paz Optometric for 30 years at least. Dr. Yamamoto is awesome; the staff is courteous. I am in once a year and that is it. About two weeks ago I went in to have my glasses frame fixed or replaced. They called me a few days later and I picked up my glasses. The next day I noticed that I could not see as clearly as I did before. I swore that I had the wrong prescription lenses. I called and demanded to speak to the Office Manager. I was ready for a battle on the phone (shame on me). James very nicely said no problem come in tomorrow and I can check it for you. I went in earlier than expected. Now am ready to be a "karen" if need be. Well, I did not have to wait long even though I showed up 45 minutes early. James was very nice, took the glasses, came back and said the prescription was correct. I said how do I know that it is? I could see fine before and now not so much. He did a quick test, and it looked like my sight had changed. Thinking to myself "great now I need to get a new prescription, and it has not been a year since I bought these glasses " James suggested having my eyes checked again by Dr. Yamamoto who happened to be there. I agreed and waited 10 more minutes. Dr. checked me again and in fact my sight had changed a bit. The entire time, James had the most delightful attitude and made me feel like I am a valued patient/customer. He took the time and with kindness he disarmed me. I offered to pay for the new exam, I do not like to take advantage, I just want to see. I highly recommend la Paz Optometric. I will be seeing them for another 30 plus years with the grace of God. The best experience with very nice and patient employees, James helped me with the process of picking my frames and when they were ready for pick up he help me to make sure they were align and the prescription felt right for me. I had been going to another vision center for the past 20 years. It was easy, convenient and fast. However as I got older, I realized that my vision wasn't the best it could be, and I didn't know why that was or how I could change it. I decided to do a search on Yelp for optometrists near me, and after reading all the positive reviews on La Paz, specifically Dr. Sako, I decided to check them out. I liked that I could book my appointment online, and I loved how quickly they sent me the online paperwork so I could have everything completed before my arrival. My first appointment took about an hour and I was very impressed with all the tests and the latest technology they used to evaluate my eyesight. It was a major upgrade from my former vision center! I also appreciated the fact that they were on time and didn't have me wait. They were very efficient! When Dr. Sako walked into my room, I was immediately put at ease by his friendliness and overall demeanor. He took the time to thoroughly go over my results and explain everything to me. My vision had changed a bit and he recommended new contacts for me that were healthier for my eyes and they significantly changed my overall vision and clarity. I could tell that he really cared about the overall health of my eyes, not just now but for my future. I didn't feel like I was just "another patient" that was shuffled in and out. The entire staff, from the receptionist to the assistants to Dr. Sako himself, operate as one team and I left knowing that I'm in good hands. What a GR8 experience!! My son is only 9 and has had some significant eye concerns. Including astigmatism. It's hard to give style advice, but Nancy just explained how the different styles could be read on my face. I really appreciated hearing an opinion that led me to choose a more flattering color for my face. The staff and service were great. They have a wide range selection from moderately price to higher end.
